The funeral for Mildred Evelyn DeVore, 88, of Jet, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Jet. The Rev. Diana Pruitt will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, north of Jet. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1918, on the family farm north of Amorita to Oliver and Lillian Hook Flowers and died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Methodist Home at the Commons in Enid.
She attended grade school in Mendon and graduated from Byron High School.
She married Frank H. DeVore Jan. 1, 1940, in Enid. She was a homemaker, seamstress and member of Eastern Star and United Methodist Church of Jet.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine Arnold of Enid and Charlene White of Pond Creek; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Frank, she was preceded in death by two sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Jet Fire Department or Methodist Home at the Commons in Enid.
Funeral services for Billy Joe Bookout, 70, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. today, June 16, 2006, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Velmer Goebel will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery of Lahoma.
Billy was born July 29, 1935, in Walnut Ridge, AR, to Tolbert and Ada (Hutsell) Bookout and died in Enid Tues-day, June 13, 2006.
He moved to Wichita chasing a racing dream. There he met Stella A. Kingsolver and married her April 4, 1965. They moved to Enid in 1967. He worked for B&W Tank Service, Bookout Detail, B&W Sand & Gravel and then Bookout Wrecker & Salvage. He retired about a year ago. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lahoma.
He is survived by sons, Tony Bookout and wife Stacy of Enid, Jerry Bookout and wife Kim of Wichita, KS, David McGill of Lufkin, TX, Dennis McGill of Salem, OR; daughters, Cindy Pekrul and husband Doug of Enid, Sheri Williams of Goddard, KS, Tammy Goode and husband Ed of Cheney, KS, and Karen Freidman of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Glenda Kelly of Norwich, KS, and Dean Fisher and husband Bob of Smithville, AR; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella, Aug. 31, 1999, great-granddaughter Madison Victor, his parents, and two brothers, Melvin and Troy.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Heart Division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
Katherine Norman Dunagin Steele passed away on June 14, 2006, in McAlester, Okla. Visitation will be at Guardian Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 17, and funeral services will be in the Louise Prichard Chapel of First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, on Sunday, June 18, at 2 p.m. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, Miss.
Mrs. Steele was born in Newton, Miss., on Sept. 10, 1920, to Willis and Virginia Norman. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi, from which she later received her master’s degree in education.
In 1942 she married Dr. James L. Dunagin, with whom she enjoyed only 23 years of marriage before his untimely death in 1965. The cheerful and energetic mother of four children, she instilled in them a love for music and reading.
In 1973 she married art professor, Karl Steele of Wheaton, Ill., with whom she spent eight happy years until his death in 1982.
An enthusiastic and caring school teacher, Mrs. Steele derived great joy from her 20-plus years of teaching in Forest and Hattiesburg, Miss.; New Orleans; Oklahoma City; and Enid, OK. Her hobbies of singing, playing the piano and organ and oil painting also gave her much enjoyment. For almost 40 years she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, where she used her musical talents, taught a Sunday school class, and worked in the Good Shepherd Ministry.
Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her first husband Dr. James L. Dunagin, her second husband Karl Steele, her father Willis J. Norman, her mother Virginia Brantley Norman, and a sister, Sybil Mandle.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Pitts, and her husband Bill of Centerville, Ga., and their children Susanne and Dr. Brian Pitts; her son Dr. James L. Dunagin Jr. and his wife Emily of McAlester, OK, and their daughters Amy and Jane; her son Norman Dunagin and his wife Ann of Oklahoma City and their daughter Sarah; her son David Dunagin and his wife Geraldine of Shawnee, OK, and their daughter LaDeana; and her stepdaughter Carolyn Streeter of Muskegon, Mich., and her family. Additionally, she is survived by a sister, Margaret Royal and her husband Lyle of Virden, IL; a brother, Marion Norman and his wife Dorothy of Hemphill, Texas; as well as by several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, OK.
Funeral services for Sheila Diane Burnham, 21, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006, in Laduasu-Evans Chapel. Rev. Gene Burnham and Rev. R.G. Garland will officiate. Burial will follow in White Cem-etery of Hunter. Ar-rangements are with Ladusau-Evans Fu-neral Home.
She was born Feb. 15, 1985, in Enid to Jesse Lee and Thelma May DaPron Ball and died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after an accident.
Sheila attended the Pond Creek-Hunter School System. On Oct. 5, 2002, she married Tyrel Burnham in Enid. She worked in quality assurance for StarTek for the past two years.
Sheila was a great momma to her two children and was a member of the Hallmark Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Tyrel Burnham, two children, Corbin Lee and Riley Marlene Burnham all of the home; her mother and stepfather, Thelma May and Ray Hutson; mother and father-in-law, Fred and Marlene Burnham, all of Enid; a brother, Brett Ball and a sister, Bobie Grace Henry, both of Arkansas; and three sisters-in-law, Jessica, Shannon and Jenifer Burnham, all of Pond Creek.
Sheila was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Ball.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home in memory of Sheila Burnham through the Bank of Kremlin to assist in the education of her children.
Funeral services for Robert White, 76, of Woodward, will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, in First Baptist Church of Sharon. Burial will follow in the Fargo Cemetery, Fargo, under the direction of Johnson’s Good Samaritan Funeral Service, Woodward.
He was born June 20, 1932 in Guthrie to Samuel and Ruby (Van Houton) White and died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Grace Living Center in Woodward. He spent most of his early years in Guthrie. He attended Guthrie schools and joined the Army on his 16th birthday. He served in Japan during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952 as a sergeant.
On April 2, 1953, he married Donna Ruth Fraze at Guthrie. They made Guthrie their home until moving to Woodward in 1970. He worked in the oil field, working up from roughneck to become a consultant. He attended First Baptist Church at Sharon.
Survivors include his wife Donna of the home; two sons, Robert White Jr. of Woodward and Steven White of Fargo; one daughter, Beverly Abell of Tyler, Texas; three brothers, Samuel White, Donnie White and William White, all of Guthrie; two sisters, Charlotte Johnson of Crescent and Judith Musil of Guthrie; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Services for Helen P. Howard, 90, will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, in Hillsdale Bible Church with Rev. Ken Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsdale Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1917, on a farm south of Nash to Paul and Hazel Lane Boehm. She died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. She attended grade school at a one-room school.
She married Gehyman “Pete” Howard Jan. 17, 1939, in Enid. They lived in Lawton and Enid, then Hillsdale. She was a member of Hillsdale Bible Church.
Survivors include a son, Lee Howard, Hillsdale; a daughter, Shirley Young, Drummond; a sister, Beula Ewers, Lamar, Mo.; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a baby daughter, a brother and a sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hillsdale Bible youth building fund.
The funeral for Russell “Rusty” Leon Schmidt, 45, of Clinton, will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Clinton. Doug Lewis and Robin Palesano will officiate. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton.
He was born July 7, 1960, in Cordell to Dale and Letha Schmidt and died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City.
He was raised and educated in Dacoma, graduating from Carmen-Dacoma High School in 1978.
He married Tammie Oakley May 25, 1979, in Dacoma. They made their first home in Yewed where he worked on a farm while attending Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He graduated from NWOSU in 1982 with a degree in agri-business. They moved to Clinton where he worked for Clinton Co-op. He was manager of Putnam Co-op from 1986 to 1987 and later returned to Clinton Co-op.
Surviving are his wife, Tammie, of the home; one daughter, Lacey Taapken of Shattuck; his parents, Bob and Letha McCray of Carmen and Dale and Vaughna Schmidt of Aline; two sisters, Kim Snider of Norman and Jo Hammer of Fairview; one stepbrother, Kevin McCray of Moore; his maternal grandmother, Edna Duerksen of Corn; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by one daughter and a stepbrother.
The funeral for Bessie Lee Klopfenstein, 79, of Crescent, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Crescent. The Rev. Bryan Haynes will officiate. Burial will be in Crescent Cemetery. Arrangements are by Abernathy-Aaron Funeral Home, Crescent. Viewing will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 26, 1926, to Cloyd and Velma Wilson and died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital, Oklahoma City.
She grew up on a farm northwest of Crescent and attended Crescent school, graduating from Crescent High School in 1944.
Her first job was at a dime store. She later worked at The Bank of Crescent, retiring in 1986 as vice president.
She married Floyd Klopfenstein Oct. 7, 1950. They lived in Crescent until 1971 when they moved to Chickasha. They returned to Crescent in 1973. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Crescent, where she served as Sunday school teacher and was active in WMU. She also was active in Alpha Study Club.
Surviving are one daughter, Susan Hodges of Clinton; a son, Steve Klopfenstein of Crescent; a brother, Jim Wilson of Crescent; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd.
The funeral for Mona Lea Taliaferro, 83, of Guthrie, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Memorial Chapel, Guthrie. Dennis Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Arrange-ments are by Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. The casket will not be opened at any time.
She was born July 20, 1922, in Marshall to William Edward and Sallye Lenore Potter Heydman and died Monday, June 19, 2006, at her home.
She graduated from Marshall High School in 1940 and was a member of First Christian Church, Guthrie.
Surviving are one son, Gary Don Taliaferro of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Irvan and Blayne Heydman, both of Oklahoma City; and one sister, Ruby Schoeling of Covington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delrain, in 1972, one brother and a sister.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 3545 North West 58, Suite 400C, Oklahoma City, OK, 73112.
The funeral for Clyde Wesley “Wes” Tune, 56, of Alva, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.
He was born Dec. 14, 1949, in Alva to Al-berta Nigh-swonger and Idus Jake Tune and died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Wichita (Kan.) Wesley Medical Center.
He attended school in Capron. He enlisted in the Marines May 25, 1967. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged Aug. 27, 1971.
He married Robbie Gwenn Stephens May 20, 1978, in Fairview. They made their home in Alva. He was a self-employed truck driver and worked in the oil fields.
Surviving are three sons, Joshua of Wichita and Jeremy and Aaron, both of Alva; two sisters, Wanda Braswell of Vilonia, Ark., and Nickey Cook of Branson, Mo.; two brothers, Loyd of Enid and Boyd of Vilonia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services for Susan Kaye Evans Olds, 53, formerly of Enid, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Central Christian Church. Rev. Don Johnson will officiate. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
She was born Dec. 28, 1952, in Enid to Robert L. Sr. and Carolyn Evans and died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in Las Vegas, NV. She graduated from Carrier High School in 1971, spending most of her life in Enid. She moved to Las Vegas in 1989. She was a practicing licensed practical nurse until her death.
Surviving are three sons, Danny and David Olds of Las Vegas and Dusty Olds of Grass Valley, CA; her mother, Carolyn Evans of Cherokee; six brothers and sisters, Lynda Evans and Tammi Lambright and husband Bob, all of Las Vegas, Robert “Bob” Evans Jr. and wife Rosalie of Billings, Rick Evans and wife Karen of Hillsdale, Randie Evans and wife Karla of Enid, Rex Evans and wife Angie of Rogers, AR, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for the Diabetes and Crohn’s Disease Division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
