Lois Ann (Lamunyon) Shreve, 71, beloved wife, mother and best friend to many, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family at sunrise Sunday, May 7, 2006. She lived with cancer for 141⁄2 years, and now her earthly journey is complete. Her celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Treat presiding, followed by a brief reception, then private family burial at Enid Memorial Park Cemetery. The funeral will be under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.
The only daughter of Lloyd Ray and Ada Lucille (Murphy) Lamunyon, Ann was born west of Enid Sept. 10, 1934 in the same farmhouse as her father’s birthplace. She attended Carrier public schools, graduating from Carrier High School in 1952. Shortly thereafter she married her high school sweetheart, David L. Shreve, of Drummond, on July 17, 1952. During their 53 years of marriage, Ann and David lovingly raised four children and built four homes in the Enid and Oklahoma City areas.
For many years Ann worked as a homemaker and later began working part time for Cherokee Park School as a teacher’s aide. For the next 28 years until retirement, she served as the Director of Volunteer Services for Bass Baptist Memorial Hospital. Ann wholeheartedly found great passion serving and caring for her family, friends, hospital patients and families, the auxiliary, her church family and the community at large.
Ann was very involved and active supporting numerous organizations in the Enid community, serving on many boards and committees, such as board of directors of the YWCA, Community Development Support Association and the Methodist Nursing Home of Enid, among others. She joined Christ United Methodist Church in 1961 and found great joy and pleasure singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday School and leading and involving herself in numerous other faith-based activities. She loved children, teaching and serving as a role model for others. It was only natural that she volunteered as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and served as a 4-H leader for many years. She was also quite active as a member of the Imo Neighbor Club.
Ann loved life, people, flowers, gardening, traveling, trips to the lake and catching more fish than Dad and Ron. Hosting get-togethers, wherever and whatever the occasion, was her thing. She always had a knack for bringing people together for food, fun and fellowship. Folks never went away hungry or ignored when Mom was around. Encouraging and inspiring others were two of the many gifts she possessed. She frequently shared how blessed she was to have loved and received love from so many family and friends, saying “I am so rich.”
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David Shreve; children Ron and Cheryl Shreve, Patricia and Dennis Parks, all of Enid, Mary and Bruce Vogel, of Fairbanks, AK and Susan and Lance Burcham, of Norman. Five grandchildren also survive her: Shawna Parks, of Tulsa, Adam and Blaine Vogel, of Fairbanks, Hope Shreve, of Enid and Keaton McKay, of Norman. Other family survivors include her step-brother and his spouse, George and Deanie Clark and step-sister Flossie Florence Clark, all of Grand Junction, CO.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the United Methodist Women (UMW) of Christ United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Hillsdale Christian School or Hospice Circle of Love. Henninger-Allen will be the custodian of any memorial donations.
