The funeral for Sara A. Lord, 72, of Enid who passed away Feb. 3, 2008, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, Arkansas City, KS. The Rev. Elaine Lord will officiate.
Sara was born Dec. 8, 1935 in Arkansas City to Bill and Bolene Lord, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University with a degree in elementary education.
Survivors include her sisters, Bonnie Fleece of Granbury, TX, Elaine Lord of Macksville, KS, Lois Fox of Enid and Jean Gough of Topeka, KS; brothers, Thomas Lord of Lubbock, TX and David Lord of Lawrence, KS; nieces and nephews, Lori Cantrell and her children Darian, Nathan and Kira of Enid.
Memorials may be given to charities Sara supported: Friend-ship International Hungarian Christian Mission or Operation Smile International Medical Mission. Donations may be given direct or through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City, KS. (Paid obit 2-7-1)
The funeral for Delmer G. Koehn, 81, of Enid, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Christopher Hall officiating. Burial will be in Mem-orial Park Cemetery.
He was born to Pete and Pauline (Eck) Koehn on June 24, 1926, in Ma-jor County, and died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at his home in Enid.
He grew up in Ringwood and graduated from Ringwood High School. On April 18, 1954, he married Mary K. Capps at the Central Christian Church in Enid. They made their home in Enid, where he worked for Baker Manufacturing Company for 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sooner Riders Motorcycle Club, and enjoyed attending the First Nazarene Church SAMS Club meetings. He rebuilt water pumps and spent a lot of his time working in his shop. He also enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing and bluegrass and gospel music.
Delmer is survived by his wife Mary of the home; daughter Kathy Hessel and husband Gary of Enid; brother Clayton Koehn of Enid; and sister Janece Krkesska of Wichita, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Hospice Circle of Love.
The funeral for Mitzi Groce, 75, of Woodward, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Garden Chapel at Johnson’s Good Samaritan Funeral Service, Woodward. Burial will be in Sharon Persimmon Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 18, 1932, in Flat Creek, Ala., to Arthur and Elizabeth Isabell Dement and died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Grace Living Center, Woodward.
She grew up and attended school in Trussville and later Montgomery, Ala.
She married Donald Groce Dec. 10, 1949, in Pratville, Ala. They later moved to Woodward. They lived in Texas and Oklahoma while he worked in the oil field, returning to Woodward in 1962. She was a clerk at JC Penney in Woodward for 26 years.
Surviving are her husband, Donald, of the home; two sons, Lynn Allen Groce of San Francisco and Gary Paul Groce of Denver; one grandson; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
The funeral for Neal Arvin Dyer, 53, of Muldrow, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Agent Chapel in Muldrow. Burial was in Blackjack Cemetery. Arrange-ments were by Agent Funeral Home, Muldrow.
He was born June 23, 1954, in Enid to Dale Arvin Dyer and Gladys Lawson Corbit and died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, in Flagstaff, Ariz.
He was a truck driver for FWCC in Muldrow, a Baptist, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are one daughter, Heather Dyer of Cambridge, Md.; three sons, Jason Dyer of Aline, Jack Dyer of Cleo Springs and Neal Allen Dyer of Baltimore, Md.; his mother, Gladys Corbit of Muldrow; his stepmother, Joyce Dyer of Cleo Springs; two sisters, Merle Dyer of Muldrow and Tina Eubanks of Sapulpa; three brothers, Darrell Dyer of Hennessey, Brian Dyer of Florida and Lester Corbit of Muldrow; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and one grandson.
A graveside service with interment of ashes for Virginia M. Boyle, 89, will be 2 p.m. today in Enid Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crema-tory.
She was born April 14, 1918, in Wichita, Kan., to Belva and Dr. Jesse Boyle and died Sun-day, Jan. 27, 2008, at Highland Park Manor.
She grew up in Enid, graduating from Enid High School in 1936. She continued her education at Phillips University. She also studied fine arts, ballet, piano, accordion and voice. She owned and operated Virginia B’s Dress Shop on West Broadway for 20 years. She was active in Senior Citizens Center, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of Central Christian Church.
Surviving is one niece, Betsy Thomas, of Enid.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Autumn Bridge Hospice.
The funeral for Clydene Brunson, 50, of Laverne, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Assembly of God Church, Laverne. The Rev. Wesley Peterman will officiate. Burial will be in Laverne Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
She was born March 12, 1957, in Beaver to Clyde Edward and Joann Grimm Clark and died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, in Oklahoma City.
She attended school in Forgan and Gate and graduated from Forgan High School. She received her cosmetologist license from Woodward Beauty College.
She married David Leon Brunson June 15, 1974, in Knowles.
She graduated from the L.P.N. program at High Plains Vo-Tech in Woodward and was a member of Assembly of God Church of Laverne.
Surviving are her husband, David, of Laverne; children, David Brunson of Chickasha, Alan Brunson of Cherokee, Nikki Price of Pampa, Texas, and Melissa Winters of Enid; one brother, Forrest Clark of Fort Supply; one half-sister, Jeannie Johnston of Woodward; one half-brother, Homer Goodale of Woodward; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one half-brother and one grandson.
The funeral for Frances Peck Melrose, 86, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Nazarene Church, Helena. Dean Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, south of Helena. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at the church prior to the service.
She was born Nov. 9, 1921, on the family farm southwest of Helena to Worthy and Grace Freed Peck and died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Mercy Health Center, Oklahoma City.
She attended Cheney Dell Grade School, Aline High School for two years and graduated from Helena High School in 1940. She attended Helena Junior College for one year.
She married Harold Melrose June 8, 1941, in Cleo Springs. She was a farm wife and a seamstress. She was a member of Helena Nazarene Church, where she taught Sunday school, was a board member, Sunday school secretary and mission society president. She also was a member of Jolly Neighbors Club, McWillie Home Demonstra-tion Club and Merry Janes Club. Following retirement, they spent their summers at Grand Lake.
Surviving are her husband, Harold, of Helena; one son, Leroy Cook of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Joan Cook of Helena, Laura Reiswig of Yukon and Mary Beth Gray of Piedmont; two sisters, Dorothy Krob of Aurora, Colo., and Shirley Holler of Haysville, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and twin grandsons.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Helena Nazarene Church.
The funeral for Gertrude Mae Jantz, 88, of Goltry, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Helena Church of Christ. Burial will be in Karoma Cemetery, southeast of Goltry. Arrange-ments are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and before and after the service at the church.
She was born May 28, 1919, in Greensburg, Kan., to David and Lena Schmidt Dirks and died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Great Plains Care Center, Helena.
She had lived in the Goltry area since her teenage years. She married Leon Jantz Aug. 2, 1941, in Anadarko. She was a homemaker and a member of Helena Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband, Leon, of Goltry; three children, Gordon Jantz of O’Fallon, Ill., Jane Ging of Helena and Carol Jantz Swopes of Newkirk; one brother, Ernest Dirks of Stillwater; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
A graveside service for A.K. Manahan Sr., 81, of Norman, formerly of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Vance Air Force Base Silver Talon Honor Guard. The Rev. John McLemore will officiate. Arrange-ments are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Allen to Virgil and Mary McFarland Manahan and died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at the Veterans Home in Norman.
He graduated from Ada High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in June 1944, serving during World War II. He received the Adriatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Ribbon and Japan Victory Ribbon. Following the war, he moved to Tulsa, where he attended Tulsa University.
He married Ruby Kimbrough in July 1948, in Gainesville, Texas. He worked for Kerr McGee Corp. and various gas plants before moving to Enid in November 1963. In 1968, he started a trucking business, along with other business ventures. He was a member of Central Christian Church.
Surviving are two sons, A.K. Manahan Jr. of Broken Arrow and Kerry Manahan of Atlanta; one daughter, Sandy Manahan of Enid; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Central Christian Church, Caregivers Ministry.
The funeral for Ralph Russell, 87, of Meno, will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Ringwood. The Rev. Brian Frable will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Family visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church.
He was born Aug. 19, 1920, to W.D. and Cora Burgess Russell and died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
He graduated from Claremore High School and served in the Army from 1942 to 1947.
He married Helen Pennington Feb. 24, 1942. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ringwood.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, of Meno; one daughter, Barbara Gotschell; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and four sisters.
The funeral for John Thomas Cook, 67, will be today at First Baptist Church, Vici. Burial will be in Vassar Cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici.
He was born April 14, 1940, in Chester to John and Beulah Ake Cook and died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008.
He lived with his family in the Woodward and Vici communities and attended Vici Public School, graduating in 1958. He continued his education at Northwestern Okla-homa State University.
He joined the Air Force in 1960.
He married Sally Rieth Dec. 2, 1962, in Woodward. They lived in various communities in Oklahoma while working in the oil field. He retired and was living in Taloga at the time of his death.
Surviving are one son, Alan Cook of Choctaw; one daughter, June Cook of Woodward, one brother, Tim Cook of Vici; two sisters, Nancy Vaughan of Harmon and LaRay Carman of Camargo; and four grandchildren.
