HAROLD ‘HAL’ MCCONNELL
The funeral for Harold “Hal” Opdycke McConnell, 74, of Lyndon, Kan., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
He was born Sept. 20, 1933, in Russell, Kan., to Harold “H.C.” and Mary Opdycke McConnell and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at his home in Lyndon.
He graduated from Russell High School and attended the University of Kansas. He was an Air Force veteran and served in national security in Washington, D.C. He also farmed in Ellsworth County, writing a grant establishing and being the director of two half-way houses in Emporia, Kan., and was a counselor with Lyon County Mental Health Association. He worked in law enforcement in Lyon County and also in computer technology. He owned and operated a computer store in Lyndon for seven years and was working for Resource Center for Independent Living in Osage City, Kan., at the time of his death. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Christian Church in Topeka, Kan.
Surviving are his wife, Jeannine Neihart McConnell of the home; one son, Alan McConnell; two daughters, Julie Hodges of Keizer, Ore., and Joi Monnington of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Eilrich of Enid and Sara Soukup of Kanopolis, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home, P.O. Box 160, Lyndon, KS 66451 to Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Christian Church or the charity of donor’s choice.

JOE MADDOX
The funeral for Joe Maddox, 83, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Enid First Nazarene Church. The Rev. Bruce Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cem-etery, Meno. Arrange-ments are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Meno to Archie and Glenn Purvines Maddox and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was a graduate of Ringwood High School.
He married Martha Humes June 2, 1946, in Enid. He served with the Army during the Korean War. He was past commander, local and district, for Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of American Legion and Odd Fellows Lodge 31. He was a bowler and won a state tournament in the mid 1970s.
Surviving are his wife, Martha of the home; three daughters, Shirley Clark, Linda Mehlig and Carolyn Pickard; one son, Joey Maddox; one brother, Harley Maddox; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, five brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, diabetes and heart division.

ORVAL A. PAULSON
The funeral for Orval Alfred Paulson, 68, of Woodward, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Randy Hodgson will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home, Woodward. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Spicer, Minn., to Alfred and Olga Josephine Estwick Paulson and died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Woodward Regional Hospital.
He was raised and attended school in Spicer, graduating from Willmar High School in 1957. He attended business college in Minneapolis and obtained his associate’s degree in accounting.
He married Patricia Steele. He worked for The Paper Co. until he began work for Terra Chemical as a mechanic in the maintenance department in the mid-1970s.
He married Janet Barrett May 22, 1971, in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in Sioux City, Iowa. He transferred to Terra Chemical in Woodward in August 1977, retiring in 2002. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men and Purple Marten Society. He was a Stephen Minister and also attended Walk to Emmaeus.
Surviving are his wife, Jan of the home; three sons, Steven Orval Paulson of Phoenix, Greg Barrett of Houston and Jay Barrett of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Tammy Mueller of Philadelphia, Jeri Thomas of Indianapolis and Jane Kirk of Stillwater; one brother, George Paulson of Maple Grove, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

KENNETH CONRAD KEPHART SR.
The funeral for Kenneth Conrad Kephard Sr., 72, of Carmen, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carmen United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Smith and David Lemmon will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wentworth Mortuary LLC, Carmen.
He was born March 17, 1935, in Carmen, to Harry Conrad and Irma Bell Pierce Kephart and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Carmen.
He attended a one-room school at Yewed-Lambert, then continued at Carmen public schools. He served 11 years as a signalman in the Navy, serving in Korea, Vietnam and ports in the far eastern tour.
He married Guadalupe Ornelas April 29, 1967, in Waynoka. He attended barber school and worked as a barber in Mannford. He also worked as a school bus driver, oilfield dispatcher and laundry supervisor.
Surviving are his wife, Marie, of Enid; two children, Kenneth Conrad Kephart Jr. of Carmen and Xantippe Maria Bolar of Freedom; two brothers, Harry Kephart of Alva and Ronald Kephart of Carmen; one sister, Patricia Wray Woffard of Frederick; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Share Hospice.

LEONARD JOHN ASHCRAFT
The funeral for Leonard John Ashcraft, 78, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Enid, was held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Branstetter Funeral Chapel, Oklahoma City. The Rev. Ernest Ashcraft officiated. Burial was in Mus-tang. Arrange-ments were by Advan-tage Fu-neral and Cremation, Oklahoma City.
He was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Southard to Ernest and Myrle Broom Ashcraft and died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, in Oklahoma City.
He attended elementary school in Cleo Springs and finished school in Enid. He joined the Air Force following high school.
He married Mildred Inskeep in 1949 in Enid. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, moving several times before settling in Oklahoma City in the early 1960s. They later divorced. He married Glenda Ferguson Dennis in 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda; one daughter, Karen Sue Worrilow of Mustang; one son, Gary Leroy Ashcraft; stepchildren, Kelly, Diane and Bobby; two sisters, Evalyn Thompson and Ann Koehn of Enid; two brothers, the Rev. Ernest Ashcraft of Tahlequah and his twin, Leo James Ashcraft of Mount Vernon, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

PEGGY LOUISE ARMSTRONG
Funeral services for Peggy Louise Armstrong, 68, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with the Rev. Alvin Dalton officiating. Graveside service will be in the Garden Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladu-sau-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.

Peggy was born April 4, 1939, in Grove, Kansas, to Carl Herbert and Lilia Mae Sampson Hess and died Saturday morning, Jan. 12, 2008, at her granddaughter’s home after a lengthy illness.
She married Kenneth Jean Marshall April 12, 1953, at the age of 14 in Perry. After moving around a while they made their home in Enid. Kenneth died in July 1996. Peggy married Edward Armstrong July 2, 1999, in Enid.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Kenneth, a son, two sisters, a brother, and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, of the home; four children, Kenneth Eugene and wife Adeanna Marshall, Bert James Marshall, Carl Herbert and wife Crystal Marshall, and Peggy Sue Marshall, all of Enid; four sisters, Jeannett Denis of Washington, Shirley Butts of Drummond, Norma and husband Merle Gee and Melva Jean Terry, both of Texas; granddaughter, Crystal and husband Justin Scott, that she lived with; one brother, Dale Hess of Enid; 12 other grandchildren, Kenneth Marshall, Randy Marshall, Vanity Shaw, Larry Shaw, Brian and wife Sarah Marshall, Mike Jantz, Keith Marshall, Jennifer Marshall, Matthew Allison, all of Enid, Mandy Jantz of Fairview, Aaron Marshall and Kayla Marshall of Kansas; and 17 great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends that will greatly miss her.

PHYLLIS IRENE ESTER
Funeral services for Phyllis Irene Ester, 81, of Carrier, will be 3 p.m. today, Jan. 15, 2008, at Willow View Methodist Church with Rev. Lesly Broadbent officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The casket will be open until 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Phyllis was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Lahoma, OK, to Fredrick C. Moehle and Irene H. Stahmer. She died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Hennessey, OK.
She was raised and lived in the Carrier/Lahoma area. She received her BBA degree from the University of Texas where she was active in athletics and a member of WICA, Canter Club and Gamma Delta. She was employed as a statistician for Deep Rock Oil Co. in Tulsa, a member of Beta Sigma Phi and active in AAU basketball in Tulsa. She was a member of Garfield County Rural Rotatory from 1959-2006. She cooperated a grain and livestock farm since 1952 and was active in the Oklahoma Short Horn Association. She was a charter member of the Cherokee Strip Roundup Club, a member of the state championship meat identification, livestock and poultry judging teams and held various offices in the Carrier Extension Homemakers, Oklahoma Lassie and Farm Bureaus Women Committees.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Ester; one son, Phil Ray and his wife Brandy of Carrier; four grandchildren, Tristan Ray and Marquie RheAnn of Lahoma, Robert Brandon and Whitney Rachel of Carrier; two sisters, Velda Rivenburg of Lahoma and Thelma Rackley of College Station, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick Moehle and Irene Stahmer Moehle.
Memorials may be made to the Rose Hill Cemetery in Carrier, OK with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

PEGGY LOUISE ARMSTRONG

Besides her first husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by one son, two sisters, one brother and two great-grandchildren.

DARLENE J. PLATT
The funeral for Darlene J. Platt, 70, of Perry will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Perry to Wilbur Oliver and Stella Omega LeFussey Pricer and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Perry Memorial Hospital.
She was a 1955 graduate of Perry High School. She married William “Bill” Platt June 7, 1958, in Enid.
Surviving are her husband, Bill; one daughter, Kim Kienholz of Orlando; one brother, Kenneth Pricer of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Ellen Wilkerson of Sherman, Texas, and Jo Bronn of Claremore; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, OK 73077 to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

GENE LOIS LAMUNYON
The funeral for Gene Lois LaMunyon, 85, of Laverne, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Royal will officiate. Burial will be in Laverne Memorial Cemetery, Laverne. Arrrangements are by Myatt Funeral Home, Laverne. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Vineland, N.J., to Edward S. and Emma Darling Goodell Vineyard and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008.
She married James Wallace LaMunyon Oct. 10, 1946, in Medicine Lodge, Kan. He died Dec. 30, 1998. She worked as a bank teller. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Harper County Historical Society, Laverne Methodist Women and American Legion Auxillary
Surviving are one sister, Olive Mae VanWyk, of Manchester, N. H.
