Virginia Lee Baker passed away Monday, March 16 at Presbyterian Hospital, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 74.
Virginia was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Konawa, to Marvin and Eunice (Harvel) Barker.
She married Buddy Baker Sept. 19, 1956, in Konawa. Virginia and Buddy worked together many years, with Virginia as the bookkeeper at Baker Air and Heat.
Virginia was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, of Howe, Texas, where she served as the pianist.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband of 52 years, Buddy, of Howe, Texas; one son, Larry Allen Baker and wife, Terri Ann, of Casper, Wyo.; one daughter, Brenda Diane Hemperley and husband Mark, of Howe, Texas; six grandchildren, Brent Daniel Hemperley, Sean Alan Hemperley, Matthew Alan Baker, Daniel Dean Baker, Mitchell Paul Baker, and Lucas David Baker; and one sister, Lillian Ilene Thompson, of Checotah.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Eunice (Harvel) Barker; one daughter, Kathy Dean Baker; one brother, John Andrew Barker; and one granddaughter, Natalie Marie Baker.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at Waldo Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday March 23 at the First Baptist Church, in Howe, Texas. Rev. Roger Tidwell of the church will officiate. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the city cemetery in Konawa.
Deacon Marvin Patterson of the First Baptist Church, of Konawa will officiate. Steve Parish, Leon Thornhill, Larry Messick, John Bell, Sam Hagis, Danny Gouard, and Charlie Farris will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brent Daniel Hemperley, Sean Alan Hemperley, Matthew Alan Baker, Daniel Dean Baker, Mitchell Paul Baker, and Lucas David Baker.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Howe Youth Department at 100 E. Davis, Howe, Texas, 75459.
Services are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Nola Barnett
Nola Ruth Barnett, age 92, of Harrison, Arkansas formerly of Wewoka, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Hillcrest Home, in Harrison, Arkansas.
The daughter of Mack A. and Bessie (Smith) McCrary was born March 5, 1917, in Thomas, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Barnett was known for her sewing skills and supplied her family and the public for many years with her handiwork. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, in Wewoka. She was a loving mother, a good neighbor and a generous friend.
Her parents preceded her in death, along with her husband, James Barnett; a daughter, Lou Barnes; two brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors are her daughter, Nola Barnett, of Harrison; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sharon Barnett, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; granddaughters and their families, Kristi, Chris, A.J. and Kylie Enloe, of Neosho, Mo., and Beth, Randall and Dagen Fulle, of Springdale, Ariz.; step-grandson and family, Ron, Cathie, Katie, Ryan, and Grace Evans, of Claremore, Oklahoma and Ken and Lana Barnes, of Neosho, Mo.
Also surviving are a brother, Leonard McCrary, of Dallas, Texas and sisters, Maxine Zaffuto and Betty Keske of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009 at Little Cemetery near Seminole, Oklahoma under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home, in Harrison.

Jon Bear
Wewoka resident Jon Bear, age 47, died Friday, July 3, 009 at Integris Seminole Medical Center.
He was born April 21, 1962 in Claremore, to Ashley Bear and Mary Jo Leader. He attended school in Okemah and Holdenville. He married Jessie Brown in 1985.
He worked in maintenance at Seminole Nation and served in the National Guard for sixteen years and number of years with Seminole Nation Color Guard.
He is survived by his wife; father, of Okemah; daughters, Alicia Yahola and Jennifer Bear, both of Holdenville; sons, Keith and Jonathan Bear, both of Wewoka; one granddaughter; brothers, Timothy Bear, of Weleetka, Daniel Bear, of Henryetta, Ashley Joe Bear, of Muskogee and Patrick Bear, of Okmulgee; and sister, Lisa Hardy, of Sarasota, Fla.
He is preceded in death by his mother.
Pallbearers will be New Tulsa Ceremonial Ground Members.
Honorary Bearers will be Daniel Bear, Timothy Bear, Patrick Bear, and Joe Bear.
A wake service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Mekusukey Mission Community Center. Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Mekusukey Mission Gym, in Seminole.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Wyley Bear
Former Seminole County resident Wyley Bear Sr. died Thursday Jan. 22, 2009, at Unity Health Center, in Shawnee, at the age of 72.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. George Mooney officiating and burial to follow at Bear Family Cemetery.
Bear was born July 5, 1936, in Seminole, to Porter and Venus Bear. He attended Strothers School.
He was a self-employed laborer and attended Liberty Baptist Church, in Shawnee.
Survivors include his children; Martha Harjo, Brenda Bear, Marsha Bear, and Wyley Bear Jr.; brother, Porter Bear Jr.; Sisters, Nora Lefthand, and Dora Haney; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death are his parents; son, George Bear; brothers, Johnson Bear, Pawnee Bear, Thomas Bear; and sister, Alice Matthews
Pallbearers will be Vincent Haney, Tracey Haney, Mike Bear, Roman Bear, Roy Williams, and Steven Ponkilla.
Honorary Bearers will be Sean Lefthand, Stacey Haney, Eric Haney, Stuart Ponkilla, and Gerald Williams.
Albert Beaver
Services for Wewoka Resident Albert James Beaver will be Friday July 10, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Wewoka at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, in Wewoka. Albert passed away at his home on July 7, 2009, at the age of 72 years.
Albert James Beaver was born on September 13, 1936 in Sasakwa to Tillrie and Gladys Beaver. After high school he joined the Army and served two years in Germany. After retiring at Tinker Air Force Base as Chief Warehouse Supervisor, he became bailiff at the Seminole County Courthouse, the job he loved the most. Albert also loved his part time job for Santa Claus during the Christmas season. He was a member of the Odd fellows lodge since 1966.
He was named citizen of the year in 2007. He enjoyed playing golf, and filming Wewoka Football for over 31 years. Albert loved life, loved to laugh, and socialize. Albert’s two grandchildren were among his greatest joys.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Tillrie and Gladys Beaver; one sister, Nadine; and one brother, Vernon.
Albert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hilda; his two children, Steve and Sonya; his two grandchildren, Kiara and Tyra Beaver; and his sister, Wilma and her husband Emmitt Smart, of Wewoka.
Services are under the direction of Stout Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Jvon Bell
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Jvon "Jay" C. Bell are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2009 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Tecumseh.
Rev. John Mixon will officiate.
Burial will follow at the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Bell passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 in Shawnee at the age of 76 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born to Joe C. and Mae Bell in Prague on June 9, 1932.
He grew up in Prague, where he attended public school.
Jay graduated from Centerview High School, and the n went on to graduate from Oklahoma State University.
Following his first marriage, the couple lived in Texas before moving to Seminole, where they lived for 20 years before settling in the Shawnee/Tecumseh area in 1984.
On Dec. 7, 2002, Jay married Arlene Bryce at the New Hope Baptist Church.
Jay served his country during the Korean War.
He worked mainly in oil and gas exploration and consulting, and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for 20 years.
Jay loved classical and bluegrass music, had a keen interest in politics, and loved to fish and fly his airplane.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; his parents, Joe and Mae Bell; and a brother, Benny Bell.
Jay is survived by his wife, Arlene Bell, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Janice and Brent Morgan and Diana and Jerry Mooney, all of Oklahoma City; four sons and daughters-in-laws, Mark P. and Sherry Bell of Tecumseh, Mike and Joni Wells of Mustang, Kevin and Bonne Wells of Oklahoma City, and Brian and Susan Wells of Mustang; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Mary Ann Romberg of Shawnee, and several nieces and nephews.
The family has designated New Hop Baptist Church Building Fund or Heartland Hospice as appropriate for memorials.
Benjamin Berry, Jr.
Benjamin Franklin Berry, Jr., age 48, of Lima, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.
He was born May 15, 1961, in Holdenville, to Benjamin F. Berry, Sr. and Delois M. (Washington) Berry. He attended school in Lima. He was a member of Lima Highway Church of God in Christ and a member of the Sunday School.
He is survived by his parents; brothers, Frank James Berry, of Oklahoma City, Donnell Berry, of Seminole, and Mike Berry, of Fort Supply; and sisters, Latrice Jackson, of Shawnee and Linda Morrison, of Holdenville.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the New Lima High School auditorium, in Lima. Elder James Young, of New Bethlehem Temple, in Oklahoma City, will officiate. Burial will be at Lima Cemetery, in Lima.
Thomas Berry
A celebration of life and graveside services for Wewoka native Thomas Wayne Berry are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Lebo Creek Cemetery in Lebo, Kansas.
Joe Combes will officiate the services.
Services are under the direction of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas.
Berry died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Hays Medical Center at the age of 50.
He was born on May 2, 1959 in Orange County, Calif.
During his childhood, he moved to Wewoka where he was raised by Clarence Brinsfield.
He graduated from Wewoka High School and then attended three years of college in California.
Berry served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1982.
He was united in marriage to Randa Combes on February 7, 1994 in Seminole.
Berry was a mechanic who worked on cars and could fix anything.
He also worked in the oilfields in Oklahoma as a tool pusher and on the drilling units.
He moved to Russell, Kansas in 2007.
Berry was a member of the New Life Church in Wewoka.
He also attended the Harvest Church in LaCrosse, Kansas and the Assembly of God Church in Russell.
Berry is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Randa, of the home; three sons, Thomas Berry, Jr., Justin "J.J." Berry of Russell, Kansas, and Richard Green of Ellsworth, Kansas; four daughters, Jessica Hager of Russell, Kansas, Danelle Berry and Wendy Simms, both of Washington, and Carlie Nell; three brothers, Sonny Labm of Seattle, Washington, Larry Berry of Moore, and Billy Williams of Wewoka; three sisters, Cheryl Caruso of Seminole, Billie Sparks of Wewoka, and BJ Phillips of Chapin, South Carolina; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial has been established as the Tom Berry Memorial.
