Funeral Services for Brenda Carolina are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, in Wewoka. She died Jan. 9, 2009, at the age of 53.
She was born to Richard and Geneva (Barkus) Carolina on Sept. 21, 1955, in Wewoka. Carolina graduated from Wewoka High School in 1973. Shortly after graduation she attended airline Stewardess School, in Kansas City, Mo. She was a member at New Jerusalem Evangelist Temple C.O.G.I.C., in Oklahoma City. She took care for her father until the time of his death.
Surviving her are her daughter, Chantonee; three grandchildren; three sisters, Wendoloyn (Chris) Farrier, of Oklahoma City, Pam (Kenneth) Johnson, of Seminole and Gloria Carolina, of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Earl (Sueann) Carolina and Jimmie Carolina, both of Wewoka; and companion, Wendell Payne.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Richard and Geneva (Barkus) Carolina; sister, May Catherine Carolina; and brother, Richard Carolina Jr.
Quanzetta Carolina
Funeral Services or Quanzetta (Huntley) Carolina are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, in Wewoka, with interment following at Westwood Cemetery, in Wewoka.
Carolina was born Aug. 13, 1942. She was the first child born to Jake and Stella May (Pompey) Huntley, in Sasakwa. She died Jan. 8, 2009, at OU Medical Center, in Oklahoma City, following a battle with lung cancer.
She was educated in Sasakwa and Wewoka Public Schools. She was united in matrimony to James Carolina Jr., Oct. 25, 1967, in Beardon. He preceded her in death in July of 1998.
Carolina was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She served as Treasurer, Sunday School Program Planner, Deaconess and vocalist in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the Late Emmitt Elbert, Pastor
She was employed by Heritage Nursing Home as a CMA for 29 years. She was also a Foster Parent.
She is survived by her mother, Stella May Huntley; three sons, James and Eric Huntley, of Wewoka, and Richard Forsyth, of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Latoyah Huntley, of Wewoka; one grand-daughter; six sisters, Shirley Huntley, Lillie May Huntley, Ruby Huntley, LeVoris Huntley, Pearl Huntley and Adella (Billy) Stephens, all of Wewoka; two brothers, Joe Huntley, of Lexington and T.S. Huntley, of McAlester.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Norman Carpenter
Seminole resident Norman H. Carpenter passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009 in Seminole at the age of 88.
He was born on December 1, 1920, in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Edward Lewis and Allie (Booth) Carpenter.
Norman graduated from New Lima High School in 1939 and attended Seminole Jr. College, East Central State College and Oklahoma Baptist University. He served in the United States Army Air Corp. from 1942 until 1945 where he earned the rank of Corporal. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church, in Seminole for many years.
He married Lillian Louise (Reynolds) on December 31, 1942 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2008. They lived in Ulysses, Kansas for 27 years, from 1961 to 1988, then they returned to Seminole.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don Carpenter and Rusty and Allison Carpenter, of Norman, Oklahoma; one sister, Edna Gilbert, of Bakersfield, California.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Bret Carpenter, Dustin and his wife Avery Carpenter, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Nicole and Brandon Stanford, of Norman, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Braxton and Rylee Carpenter, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Elysia Stanford, of Norman, Oklahoma; as well as a host of other family and dear friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, 420 Reid Street with Dr. Tommy Clark and Russell Vicars officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be: Ron Sosbee, Ernie Willis, Ken Green, Neil Craig, Robert Foxx, Bruce Coates and James Hayes.
Honorary Bearers will be: GW Pool, David Forson, Somer Jones and Winfred Tinsley.

Carrie Carriger
Longtime Seminole resident Carrie Mae Carriger passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009 in Shawnee, at the age of 92.
Carrie was born on September 8, 1916 in Red Oak, Oklahoma to Duke and Emeline (Baker) Stallaby.
She married Pete Carney who preceded her in death. She later married Oscar Carriger, deceased from whom she was divorced.
She worked at the ammunition depot in McAlester. After moving to Seminole, she was employed for years at Pat’s Café and the Bus Station Café.
Her hobbies included quilt making and gardening.
She was a member of the Seminole Congregational Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons; George R. Carney and Gerald R. Carney both of Seminole, daughter and son-in-law: Yolanda and Jackie Ross of Prague, one special grandson, Christopher Carney of the home, and two sisters; Jane Tomlinson of California and Anna Belle Barbee of Whitefield.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Rebecca Ross of Oklahoma City, Joanna Hinkle of Prague, Samantha Ross of Prague, George Carney, Jr., of Seminole, James Carney of Florida, Christopher Carney of Seminole, Douglas Carney of Broken Bow, Rajohnia John, Melvin Carney and Pamela Carney all of Eagle Town, and Peter Carney of Wright City, ten great grandchildren: Hunter and Parker Hinkle, Lucas, Dawson and Grace Carney, Michael Maben, Jaylen, Mariah, Tyler and Taj Carney.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Florence Muncy, Irene Stallaby, and Elizabeth Garvin, two brothers, Steve Stallaby, John Stallaby, Sr. and one son Pete Folsom Carney Jr.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Moreland officiating.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens located East of Seminole on Highway 270.
Casket bearers will be: Jackie Ross, Dale Drumright, George Carney Jr., Douglas Carney, Peter Carney and Melvin Carney.

Ellen Carriger
Ellen Tilda (McIntyre) Carriger, age 99, and a long-time resident of Konawa, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at Jan Francis Care Center, in Ada. She lived in Konawa for the past twenty-five years.
She was born Nov. 10, 1909, to Buford A. and Vinnie (Hinsley) McIntyre, in Little Rock, Ark. She married Roy Carriger and was a janitor for the Midwest City School system. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, in Konawa.
She is survived by her daughter, Delora Moore, of Midwest City; sister, Viola Knight, of Konawa; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Carriger; son, Lindel Carriger; brothers, Edgel and Elmer McIntyre; and sister, Cora Graham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at the Assembly of God Church, in Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Konawa. Rev. Steve Lowrance, Pastor of the Assembly of God Church will officiate.
Pallbearers are Ernest McIntyre, Oddis McIntyre, Cloise McIntyre, Jim Hutchinson, Roger Abbott, and Matthew Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers are James Bryant, and George Moore. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.
Ben Carter
Ben Carter, 69, longtime Seminole resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2009, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Ben was born May 9, 1940, in Seminole to Ben F. and Edith (Calaham) Carter.
Ben grew up in Seminole and attended Seminole Schools and graduated from Seminole High School. While there, Ben was a star football player. Ben served his country in the Army National Guard of Oklahoma. He served 27 years in "Battery B" First Battalion 160th. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He worked at Independent Tank Company as a welder for several years and later at Hopeman Equipment Company until his retirement in 1985.
Ben was a Christian man who loved his Lord and family, they were the source of all his joy. Ben was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He will be greatly missed. Ben was also a member of the Seminole bowling leagues and loved his bowling and crossword puzzles, drinking his diet-coke and playing with his grandchildren.
Ben was married to Bonnie Graves on August 31, 1959, in Ada, Oklahoma. They were married for 50 years.
Ben his survived by his wife Bonnie Carter of the home in Seminole; daughter Sheila Purkey and husband Marion of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law Ric and Kathy Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law Tami and Dale Hickman of Wewoka, Oklahoma; two brothers and sisters-in-law Donnie and Judy Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Dick and Joyce Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma; grandchildren Matt and Amanda Purkey, Angela and Kevin Buie, Rebecca Purkey, Jamal and Krystal Khalil, Emily and Brian Anderson, Samira Khalil and Heather Khalil; great-grandchildren Kevin and Bobby Porter, Ashlyn Purkey, Baily Jo and Kandance Wallace, Calista, Brooklyn and Riley Khalil, Aundrea and Trinity Anderson, Annabell and Kiara Black and Brian Anderson and Katie Fletcher.
Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with burial following at Little Cemetery. Ron Shepherd will officiate the services and casket bearers will be Dale Hickman, Matt Purkey, Jamal Khalil, Greg Carter and Hal Botsford.
Ernest Carter
Ernest "Mac" Carter, a longtime community leader of Seminole, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at the age of 67.
He was born Aug. 11, 1941, in Ada, to parents Ernest Edward "Buster" and Maude (McPhetridge) Carter.
Mac graduated from Coalgate High School in 1959 and in 1963 received a Bachelors Degree from East Central State University, in Ada. In 1970 he achieved a Masters Degree from Central State University, in Edmond, and his Administrative Certificate from Oklahoma University in 1975.
In 1965 he married the love of his life, Kathryn Roberts, of Holdenville. Together they raised their family centered around Christian faith and the love of God.
In 1966 he joined the Oklahoma National Guard, rising to the rank of Colonel before his retirement in 1994.
Mac and Kathryn moved to Seminole in 1975 where Mac was principal of Roosevelt-Central and Northwood Schools for nineteen years. His love of children and education fostered in him a desire to serve his community and he did so in many ways. He retired from Seminole Schools in 1994 after 32 years in education and began working for Central Oklahoma Community Action.
He received a special commendation for his quick action in evacuating over 200 students prior to an explosion at Roosevelt-Central School on Dec. 5, 1975. In 2007 he was awarded the Oklahoma Star of Valor from the Adjutant General of the State of Oklahoma recognizing his bravery in the incident. This is the highest award for heroism to a guardsman by the Oklahoma National Guard.
In October of 2008, Mac was inducted to the Seminole Alumni Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the American Legion, Lions Club and First Baptist Church, of Seminole.
Camp Goddard in Sulphur, Oklahoma, was a special place for Mac. He began taking students from Seminole there in 1975, a tradition that is continued even today. He served on the Board of directors of the Goddard Foundation from 2000 until his death.
In his retirement, Mac loved watching his granddaughters (who called him Bubba) dance and play ball. He enjoyed traveling and "finding good bargains". He was very proud of his sons and what they have accomplished and enjoyed spending time with all of his family. He loved to vacation everywhere. He enjoyed Branson and was able to spend the four days preceding his death there with his family where he took his grandchildren shopping and to see a magic show.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Shari, of Seminole; grandchildren Abby and Maya, of Seminole, son David, of Seminole; sister, SueAnn Humphries, of Ashland, sister Virginia Vietta, of Durant; step-mother Jeanivee Carter, of Coalgate; brother-in-law Lynn Robertson, of Mulberry, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law Ed and Mary Ann Puckett, of Cushing; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Brenda Roberts, of Antlers; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Jean Robertson, of Mulberry, Ark., and brother-in-law, John Vietta, of Durant.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, in Seminole, Saturday, Jan. 3, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Tommy Clark and Wayne Edgar officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Mabel Carter
Mabel Carter passed away on April 3, 2009. She was born on December 16, 1915 to George and Minnie Foreman, in Little, Oklahoma.
She graduated from Prairie Valley High School and then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from East Central University, in 1937. Mabel married John Woodford Carter on December 22, 1945. They built the family home together, and she loved to tell the story of the fifty-two concrete blocks they made each day.
Mabel worked for the State of Oklahoma as the Seminole County Administrator of the Department of Human Services and as a social worker for over forty years. After she retired in 1986, she devoted herself to the Interfaith Food Pantry, in Seminole.
Helping families in need was always one of Mabel’s passions. She also loved to bowl and sponsored a bowling team of her friends, Carter’s Little Pills, which traveled across the country to tournaments.
However, it was her four grandchildren who were her greatest passion in life. Whether it was going to work with her, helping at the food pantry, or just going to the beauty parlor, her grandchildren loved to spend time with her. The love she poured into their lives is her greatest legacy.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Foreman; her husband, John Carter; her two sisters, Madine Johnson and Juanice Starr; and her grandson, Christopher Connor.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Jeanette Golliver and her husband Bob, of San Antonio, Texas; and Rebecca Ann Nix and her husband, John, of Houston, Texas; her brother, Milo Foreman and his wife Norma, of Prague, Oklahoma; her half-brother, Cecil Foreman, of Maud, Oklahoma; her brother-in-law, Bill Starr, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her four treasured grandchildren, Lashelle, Daren and his wife Camille, Ryan, and Julie and her husband Philip; and two great-grandchildren, Claire and Carter.
The funeral service will be held at Little Cemetery on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 11 a.m., under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Daren Nix, Ryan Golliver, Philip Woods, and her nephews, Kenneth Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Bill Johnson, Dick Starr, Karl Foreman, Brent Foreman, and Lance Foreman.
Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Lashelle Nix, Julie Woods, and Camille Nix, her nieces, Beverly Moore, Mary Crossley, and Ann Lason.

Otto Carter Jr.
Otto Claud Carter, Jr., age 86 of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28th, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Phillip Mullins and Mark Streetman will officiate. Pallbearers are Philip Khoury, Stephen Khoury, Donnie Roberts, Lance Bowman, Ernie Herriman, and Jeremy Herriman. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Mays, Marvin Patterson, Arnold Robertson, and Bill Raines.
Otto was born on November 29, 1922, in Jenks, Oklahoma, to Otto M. Carter and Mary Etta (Funderburk) Carter. He married Lorena Pearl Sutton, the love of his life for sixty-six years, on January 13, 1943, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Otto moved to Konawa in 1941 and worked as an oilfield pumper. He was a charter member of the Vamoosa Baptist Church and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Konawa since 1960. Otto was a proud veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Lorena Carter of the home; one son, Bob Carter and wife, Linda of Ada; two daughters, Glenda Moon and husband, Joe of Ada, and Gayla Branscum and husband, Ronnie of Konawa; seven grandchildren, Philip Khoury and wife, Missy of Konawa, Lori Roberts and husband, Donnie of Ada, Stephen Khoury and wife, Shannan of Sherman, Texas, Kim Morse of Ada, Amy Bowman and husband, Lance of Duncan, Sarah Herriman and husband, Ernie of Konawa, and Scott Burton and wife, Katy of Kingfisher; and fifteen great grandchildren, Ashleigh, Danielle, Brie, Chris, Lauren, Carter, Katherine, Rebecca, Riley, Jeremy, Dusty, Kaylee, Gracie, Katerina, and Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary Carter; two brothers, Robert and Floyd Carter; three sisters, Cora Wilfong, Opal Klaus, and Dorothy Ewing.
