Wewoka resident Vernon Franklin Casey, age 70, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Seminole County.
He was born March 9, 1939 in Okemah, to Oscar Vernon Casey and Avis Norma (Plumlee) Casey.
Casey grew up in the Okemah area, having graduated from Mason High School as salutatorian in 1957. He later graduated from East Central University with a degree in Industrial Arts. Casey had been a resident of the Wewoka area since 1984. He and Peggy Bowles were married Feb. 4, 1983, in Byng.
He served his country with the United States Army in the early 60’s. He worked many years in Seminole and Okfuskee County as a homebuilder and was also a member of the Assembly of God Church, of Wetumka.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Casey, of Wewoka; sons, Mackie Casey, of Okemah, Brian Casey, of The Colony, Texas, and Chris Casey, of Wewoka; daughter, Carrie Lynn Stutte; four grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Martha Sue; and one sister Norma Shannon.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Welty Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Wesley, Edward Wesley, Kenny Dickerson, Tony Brown, Dewayne Holland, and Art Garner.
Services under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Bo Gibbs and assisted by Rev. Andy Young.
Louise Casteel
Louise Aldridge Casteel died March 12, 2009 in Newton, Kan. She was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Seminole, to John Klaus and Mary (Martin) Klaus.
She married Orval Aldridge in Sept. of 1937. They moved to Duncan, where they raised their six children and attended the North Side Church of Christ.
In 1973 they moved to Lake Eufaula where they retired and were active in the Eufaula Church of Christ.
She is survived by her three children, Brenny Aldridge, of Duncan, Buddy Aldridge, of Newton, Kan., and Beverly Grange, of Rosharon, Texas; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Following the death of her first husband she later married Ellis David Casteel on July 14, 1975, in Eufaula. He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents and three sons, Bobby Aldridge, Billy Joe Aldridge and Brian Aldridge.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Church of Christ, in Little. Her son Buddy Aldridge will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.
Odra Catlett
Graveside Services for Longtime Wewoka resident Odra Ray Catlett, age 90, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday Feb. 27, 2009, at Tate Mountain Cemetery, with Military honors.
He was born Sept. 19, 1918 in Boonville, Ark., Logan, County, to W.A. and Ancy Bell Catlett.
He graduated from Wewoka High School, where he played football. Wewoka won the State Championship his last year in school.
Catlett joined the military shortly after he graduated Aug. 31, 1939, and served six years and three months. He was discharged Nov. 25, 1945. He then worked for the United States government as an airplane mechanic at McClellan Air Force base, until he retired in 1982.
He is survived by his stepchildren; twin sister, Audra Creech, of Wewoka and sister, Ruth Meiske of Taylor, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents; brother, James Edward Catlett; and two sisters, Bonnie Beck and Dorothy Carter.

Patricia Cayton
Longtime Seminole resident Patricia A. Cayton died Feb. 5, 2009 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee.
She was born May 18, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas to Jesse Regan and Jessie Marie (Allensworth) Stewart.
She attended San Angelo Texas High School.
On July 2, 1948 she married Hyatt E. Cayton, in San Angelo, Texas.
She previously owned and operated Western Auto Associate Store, in Seminole, with husband Hyatt, for ten years. She has been a member of the Heartland Family Church since 1976.
She is survived by her husband Hyatt E. Cayton, of the home; son, Hyatt J. Cayton, of Seminole; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Regan and Jessie Marie Stewart; and daughters, Annamarie Martha Robertson and Ruth M. Harris.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel, in Seminole, with Tom Newell officiating.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, in Seminole.
Tommy Chambers
Tommy Chambers was born on Nov. 28, 1928 to Thomas William Chambers and Verna Ophelia Chambers. Tommy died on March 6, 2009 at his home, at 700 S. Okfuskee after battling cancer for almost a year.
He married Frances McCoy on December 29, 1955 in Ada, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, John Chambers, of Wewoka and Mark Chambers Gravelee, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Sharon Carey, of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma and Carolyn Chambers of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; two brothers, John Chambers, of Oklahoma City and Lloyd Robbins of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Linda Mallard, of Oklahoma City. Tommy also had four stepbrothers, Orville, Ward, Ralph, and Leon Robbins; two Stepsisters, Virginia Robbins and Clara Mae Parks. Tommy had eight grand-children and six great grand-children and a very special nephew and niece, Jack and Sara Nuckols.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a step father, whom helped raise him from a very early age, Clarence A. Robbins and a very special Aunt, Lerah Chambers.
Tommy worked in the oilfield business his entire younger life. His hard work and dedication led to his ownership of Trico Drilling Company, located in Seminole, Oklahoma.
After raising his children, Tommy began a new career built on a foundation of love for his horses. Along with his wife, Tommy held a very successful career breeding, training, and racing Quarter horses. His winnings include the Oklahoma Futurity twice; the Firebrand Futurity, in Texas; the Blue Ribbons Futurity. He was also named Breeder of the Year by the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association.
Tommy’s character and values became a foundation for not only his success, but an ongoing education for those under his influence. His promise was in his handshake; his truth was in his word; and his love was demonstrated by his actions, not just verbalized from his heart. His integrity was known by all and his unconditional commitment to his family could never be challenged.
A special thanks goes to the doctors at Shawnee Medical Center, specifically Dr. Tony Haddack, the entire Cancer Center staff, and Dr. Randolph Kemp, of Seminole, Oklahoma.
However, a most grateful and heart-felt appreciation goes to the team at Caring Connections, including Dana Roulston, Jennifer Marchbanks, Jennie Le, Micha Erwin, and Vicki Newman. Their professional, tender care, patience, and gentle guidance will never be forgotten.
Family and friends will dearly miss Tommy. It should be known, that he attacked every opportunity to battle his cancer with passion. Once the cancer had won, it should also be known that Tommy’s personal, spiritual relationship with the Lord provided a peaceful and graceful acceptance of his destiny.
James Chase
James "Jim" Thomas Chase, age 88, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Norman.
He was born Oct. 2, 1920, to Virgil Randolph Chase and Hattie Blackburn Chase, in Seminole.
He married Betty Bumgarner Oct. 6, 1945, in Seminole. His grandfather was Robert H. Chase was a pioneer and businessman of Seminole. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1939 and attended Oklahoma City University.
He worked at the McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft, Sinclair Oil Company and Imperial Irrigation District in Brawley, Calif.
He was a member of the Norman Lions Club and McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Ricky Chase Dell, of Kokomo, Ind., and Toni Jean Carter, of Norman; sisters, Norma Jordan, of El Paso, Texas and Lee Lovelace, of Norman; and two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Bumgarner Chase; brother Richard Chase, of Konawa; and his parents.

Richard Chase
Richard "Dick" Tolbert Chase, age 83, of Konawa, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Seminole, to Virgil Randolph Chase and Mattie Ethel (Blackburn) Chase.
He married Barbara Berry at the First United Methodist Church, in Seminole Nov. 9, 1951. He was a prison farm supervisor, and he was also an agriculture teacher and a wrestling coach. He was a Mason, a member of the Quarter Horse Association, and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Chase, of the home; brother, Jim Chase, of Norman; and sister, Norma Jean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mattie Chase.
Memorial services are to be announced at a later date. Flowers may be delivered to Swearingen Funeral Home, 217 N. Broadway, Konawa.
Dayne Chastain
Dayne L. Chastain, 79 year-old, lifelong Seminole County resident passed from this life Thursday, May 21, 2009 at his home. He was born June 5, 1929 in Seminole County to parents Sebastian Lamar Chastain and Leslie O. (Holland) Chastain.
Mr. Chastain has lived in Seminole County all of his life except for 10 months that he lived in San Jose, California.
On June 19, 1947 Chastain entered into active service with the United States Navy where he served on the USS H.A. Bass. During his service he was awarded the World War II Victory Metal.
He later married Esther Joy Remer on August 6, 1955 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Chastain was a self-employed building contractor, he built and operated his own precious metals refinery, Chastain and Associates, and he also served as a consultant for oil companies. He wrote a book about his adventures as a treasure hunter titled "Follow The Signs" which was published by Tiwinkie Publishing Company.
Chastain was a member of Highway Baptist Church where he led Bible Study for the Men’s Class. Although Dayne loved his God, Church and family he was ready for his Heavenly Home, where there would be no more pain.
Mr. Chastain leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, just three months shy of their 54th Wedding Anniversary, Esther Joy Chastain of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Delight and Rick Sebourn of Seminole, Oklahoma and Gay and Mark Geer of Lawton, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Chris Geer and his wife Laura, Kirk Geer and his wife Katrina, Nick Sebourn, Brandi and her husband Josh Liles, Dayna and her fiancé Matt Reust; two nephews, J.C. Chastain, and Kelly Chastain and his wife Lynn; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Mr. Chastain is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jett Chastain and Justin Chastain; and by two sisters, Velda Sweet and Atha Thompson.
A Celebration of Mr. Chastain’s life is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Highway Baptist Church located 9 miles north of Seminole on Hwy 99.
Pastor Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.

Verna Choate
Verna Wayne Choate, age 66, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at his residence in Sasakwa.
He was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Jones, to Bonnie Leroy and Ruby (Mercer) Choate.
He married Melva Taylor June 10, 1991, in Taloga. He worked with International Union of Operating Engineer Local #627, in Tulsa, as heavy equipment operator.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife Melva, of the home; brother, Bob Choate, of Okemah; sister, Nancy George, of Ada; step-daughters, Sondra Gale Medley, of Sasakwa, Darla Curnutte, of Bellview, Texas; step-sons, Steve Medley, of Bellview, Texas and Jeffery Medley, of Sunset, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers.
