Joseph Chupco

Longtime Seminole resident Joseph Michael "Joka" Chupco passed away on March 10, 2009 in Seminole, at the age of 36.

He was born on March 12, 1972, in Wewoka, to Wanda Chupco Fox.

He was a member of the Wewoka Indian Baptist Church and a member of the Seminole Nation Tribe.

He is survived by his mother, Wanda Chupco Fox, of Oklahoma City; grandmother, Juanita Chupco, of Seminole; three brothers, Kevin Fox, of Seminole, Scott Fox, of McAlester, and Tommy Chupco, of Shawnee; five nieces, Krysten, Leslyn, Hannah, Jenna and Chyna; and four nephews, Patrick, Cooper, Anthony and Colton. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be: David Smith, Douglas Vreeland, David Chupco, James Proctor, Lance Taylor, Brian Harjo and Tony Jacene.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the Little Quarsarty Church, in Cromwell.

Burial will follow at Little Quarsarty Church Cemetery, in Cromwell.

Juanita Chuco

Juanita (Buck) Chupco, 80 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident died Monday, June 1, 2009 at her home in Seminole. She was born Oct. 4, 1928 in Wewoka, to Marchee Buck and Lucy (Coker) Buck. Rev. C.W. Kinney baptized her on Sept. 12, 1941.

She married Louis Chupco on May 1, 1993 at the Wewoka Indian Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2001.

Chupco was a homemaker and a member of the Little Quarsarty Baptist Church, in Cromwell.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph, David, Ricky and Terry Chupco all of Seminole, and Tommy Chupco of Oklahoma City; daughters, Shirley Proctor, of Bartlesville, June Billie, of Seminole, Dorothy Chupco, of Tecumseh, Wanda Fox, of Oklahoma City, and DeAnn Pierce of Moore; sisters, Martha Fairbanks, of Earlsboro, Ruby Coffman, of Tecumseh, and Sylvia Taylor of Wewoka, Oklahoma; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other dear family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Chupco; two brothers, Jimmie Lena, Sr. and David Buck; three sisters, Wanda Buck, Betty Lena and Edna Miller; and by one grandson, Joe Chupco.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2009 at Little Quarsarty Church in Cromwell. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Fred Lindsey and Eddie Joe Lindsey will officiate the service.

A wake service will be held Wednesday evening, June 3, 2009 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel at 6:30 p.m.; the body will be taken to the Church Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church in Cromwell.

Casket Bearers will be: Walter Pierce, Ringo Garza, Lester Billie, Sr., Russell Wood, Jay Lena, Douglas Vreeland, Sr. and Bryan Harjo.

Honorary Bearers will be: Todd Maples, Robert Leitka, Barbara Berryhill and Carolyn Fish.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home – Seminole, Oklahoma.

Legus Clark

Legus Clark, 71 year-old lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Saturday, January 4, 2009 in Ada, Oklahoma. He was born January 28, 1937 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Wesley Clark and Lucy (Tiger) Clark.

Legus attended Carr City School and Pleasant Grove High School, in Seminole County before he entered the United States Navy on the battle ship the U.S.S. Noble from 1959 through 1963.

Legus pursued an education and vocation in printing at the Haskell Institute for two years. After graduation he worked as a printer for 20 years in various States including Colorado, California, Texas and Oklahoma.

He went on to work for the Seminole Nation in many different capacities, he retired from the Seminole Nation where her received the CHR of the year and CHR of the year at the State Conference twice, he the worked for the Seminole Nation Dialysis Center as well as the Elder Program at the Seminole Nation. Legus was currently working for the Seminole County Court House.

Legus was a member of the Tallahassee Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 15 years. Legus was also a deacon and a Bi-Lingual member.

Legus was also a representative for the Eufaula Band and served as Secretary for many years.

Attending sporting events to support the young people he knew was one of Legus’ favorite past times. He also enjoyed working in the yard and keeping busy.

Although Legus never married, he touched many lives and loved his family dearly. His survivors include three loving sisters, Rosetta Pebworth, of Seminole, Agnes Nero, of Seminole, and Ina Mae Queton, of Crowley, Texas. Legus also helped his sister Rosetta raise her children, Shane Pebworth, of Seminole, Wayne Pebworth, of Seminole, and Nicole "Nikki" Pebworth Chamberlain, of Vinita. Each of the nieces and nephews he helped raised also had children, their names are, Wesley, Justin, Thunder and Ky Pebworth, and Nash and Kamry Chamberlain.

Legus is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church (located at 910 W. Wrangler Blvd.), in Seminole. Dr. Gene Wilson and Rev. Rick Harjo will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, in Seminole with Military Honors being provided by the Seminole Nation Honor Guard.

A wake service will be held Wednesday Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Casket Bearers will be: Kyle Robedeaux, Alde Robedeaux, Jason Jones, Hayden Jones, Greg Hardin and Warren Quenton.

Honorary Bearers will be: Wayne Wesley, Justin Pebwoth, Thunder Pebworth, Shane Pebworth, Ky Pebwoth, Mark Chamberlain and Nash Chamberlain.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.

Ellen Cleaver

Ellen Mildred Cleaver passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the age of 81, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, in Oklahoma City.

Services will be Saturday March 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, in Wewoka, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Ellen was the daughter of Frederick Franklin and Tillie Marie (Anderson) Young. She married J.B. "Jake" Cleaver December 22, 1950, in Ponca City, Okla. Ellen graduated from Central State College in Edmond, Okla. Ellen retired from Ardmore High School where she was a school teacher for many years.

Jake and Ellen have a son Dr. James Frederick and Wife Joanie Cleaver, of Oklahoma City and daughter Kay Lynn and Husband Greg Arbuckle, of Wewoka. She has three grandsons; James and wife Jennifer Cleaver, Jeff Cleaver and John Cleaver and three granddaughters; Janey Ellen Cleaver, Kaycie Arbuckle-Baxley and SSgt. Jonathon Baxley, and Amanda Arbuckle-Cellars and Terry Cellars, as well as two great-grandchildren.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents along with brothers Tracy and Frank Young and a sister Marie Young-Shriver.

She is survived by her husband of the home, along with a brother Calvin Young, of Ponca City, Okla. and sister Bonnie Young-Fowler, of Lakeland, Fla.

Ellen enjoyed many years of singing in church choirs. She also enjoyed fishing and spending time with her beloved family.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the American Alzheimer's Association in the name of Ellen and her family.

David Cleveland

Former Seminole resident David Eugene Cleveland died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at his home in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born Nov. 30, 1952, to Claude and Eyalene (Ferguson) Cleveland, in Wewoka.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Gini Cleveland, of Fayetteville, Ark.; children, Charlotte and Brook Rust, of Berryville, Ark., Shawna and Amber Guthrie, of Bentonville, Ark., David Shawn Cleveland, of Clyde, Texas, and Morgan and Michael Straley, of Eureka Springs, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Claudine Bellows, Teresa Cleveland, and Debbie Lupton, all of Moore, and Judy Hester, of Seminole.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.

Pallbearers were: Jason, Brian, and Tyler Bellows, Shane Hester, Michael Straley, Ivory Johnson, Brook Rust, Johnathan Harjo, Merrick Sewell, and Stephen Straley

Services were conducted by Epting Funeral Home, of Bentonville, Ark., at New Hope Assembly of God Church, in Rogers, Ark. Burial was at Coffelt Cemetery, in Vaughn, Ark.

Nadine Cline

Nadine Pearline (Bell) Cline, 86 year-old Seminole resident, passed from this life Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Seminole Estates Care Center. She was born June 7, 1922, in the Panama Canal Zone, to parents Cecil Leonard Bell and Lucille (Carson) Bell.

Nadine married Donald Abraham Cline on June 12, 1960, in San Antonio, Texas. He preceded her in death, on April 1, 2003.

Nadine worked for the State of Oklahoma at "Girl’s Town" in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Currently known as Central Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center or "COJAC". She retired from the State after many years of dedicated service.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons and daughter-in-laws, Ronald L. Lynton and his wife Loretta, of Alvin, Texas, Chester A. "Tony" Lynton and his wife Pricilla, of Clovis, N.M., and Mike Barrett and his wife Sherry, of Seminole; one brother and sister-in-law, Roy Leonard Bell and his wife Rosa, of Panama City, Panama; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jackie Cline and his wife Elaine, of Seminole; five grandchildren, Lester Lynton, Eddy Lynton, Kerry Barrett Peters, Heidi Lynton Aldridge and Kester Lynton; seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Cady, Jamitrice, Caleb, Whitney, Aundrea and Hannah.

Her parents; her husband, Donald Cline; twin infant sons; one brother, Jimmy Carson; and one sister, Ruth Bell, precede Nadine in death.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at Immanuel Fellowship Church, on Hwy 3 North of Seminole. Pastor Tim Tate will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery North of Seminole on Hwy 377.

Casket Bearers will be Mike Barrett, Tony Lynton, Kerry Barrett Peters, Jason Peters, Eddy Lynton and Heidi Aldridge.

Honorary bearers will be Harlan Whitlock, Ronald Lynton, Colleen Frederick, Caleb Peters and Whitney Peters.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Seminole.

Lucille Cloud

Lucille Bates Cloud, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, in Norman. She was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Konawa, to Lillie Nona (Simpson) and Benjamin Harrison Bates. She graduated from Konawa High School in 1937 and from East Central University, in Ada, in 1941.

Upon graduation, she taught the business courses at Konawa High School. On July 14, 1945, she married Capt. Carl Everett Cloud and began her life as a military wife. She and her husband lived and raised a family in many states and overseas.

In order to keep up with her husband’s bountiful garden and fruit trees, she started canning, winning many ribbons for her labor.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carl; and daughters, Carla Ellis and Teresa Cloud.

Preceding her in death are her son, Michael Dennis Cloud; her parents; sisters, Jewel Frances Archer and Dorotha Mae Coyle; and brothers, Gilbert Bates and Ray William Bates.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Konawa Cemetery, in Konawa.

Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home, of Norman.

Sam Cluck

Sam Allen Cluck was born February 21, 1918, to Samuel L. and Lilly Mae (Newberry) Cluck. He went home to meet his Savior on June 3, 2009.

Sam is survived by his wife, of 71 years, Nadean L. (Crow) Cluck of the home; one brother, J. L. Cluck, of Antioch, Calif.; three children, Gary Cluck and wife Barbara, of Montgomery, Texas, Ron Allen Cluck, of Wewoka, and Larry Cluck and wife Sonja, of McAlester; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding Sam in death were both of his parents; two sisters, Annie Cluck and Viola Griswold; and three brothers, Roy Cluck, Jesse Cluck, and Cecil Cluck.

Sam was a long time resident of Wewoka, where he graduated from high school, met an married the love of his life, Nadean, and raised his family.

Cluck served in the 45th Infantry Division as First Sergeant, Chief Warrant Officer, retiring as State Command Sergeant Major. Sam proudly served his country for 38 years in the military, dating back to 1935. During this time, Sam served in Word War II and in Korea. CSM Cluck was inducted into the Military Hall of Fame, in 2004, which is the highest honor an Oklahoma soldier can receive. He also was the recipient of many other awards, medals, honors and recognitions, too numerous to mention and was extremely proud of each one.

Few men have touched and shaped as many lives as Sam Cluck. Major General Bob Morgan once said, "If the only way to get a man to excel was for someone to chew him out, Cluck was the one who could do it. And if someone needed his morale build up to get him to excel, Sam was the one for the job." In a memento, Sam left behind, he wrote, "Just knowing that I was a part of so many peoples lives in my time here and having an opportunity to make a difference in their lives, is really a blessing."

Not only was he an exemplary military leader, he was an outstanding individual as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Christian man. He loved his God. He loved his family. He loved his troops. They loved him. Our hero will be missed by all.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, at New Life Church, 121 W. 12th, in Wewoka, at 2 p.m., pastor Tommy Azlin is officiating.
