Former Wewoka resident Ann Rose Cotton, died Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle, Ill., at the age of 77 years.
She was born on May 22, 1932 in Oklahoma City the daughter of O. B. and Edna (Melton) Cotton.
She is survived by a son: Beau Cotton of Carlyle; and two grandsons.
Cotton graduate from Wewoka High School in 1951, then attended and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.
During the 1960s, Cotton taught for Wewoka Public Schools.
While there she organized her singing groups, The Rythmettes and The Corelaires.
Cotton retired from the Carlyle Unit 1 School system in 1994 after 30 years of service.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle where she served as the Music Director for many years, a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and had served on the Carlyle Cemetery Board.
She helped organize and served as the director of the 1st Christmas Cantada in Carlyle.
During her teaching career with the Carlyle School system she organized many singing groups, including the Cotton Pickers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle with Rev. Keith Michaels officiating.
In keeping with Ann’s wishes, private family committal services were held Wednesday at the Carlyle Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle on Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 9 to 11 a.m..
Memorial are suggested Heartland Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle which is serving the family.
Helen Cox
Former Cromwell resident Helen Pauline Cox, age 90, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, in Okemah.
She was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Locust Grove, to Lon Lee Berry and Ida Bell (Benton) Berry. She helped manage the family vegetable farm west of Okemah for over 55 years. After her husband Bob’s death in 199, 1 and at the age of 74, she worked with the Okfuskee County Health Department through the Experience Works Program (formerly Green Thumb). She worked with this program for over 10 years before leaving due to her health. She and H.V. Bob Cox were married Aug. 28, 1937.
She is survived by her son, Robert Cox, of Cromwell; daughters, Ann Hawkins, of Henryetta, Kay Webb, of Okemah, Sue Beets, of Okemah, Joanie Leonard, of Eagletown; and Cecelia Taylor, of Mason; brother, Doyle E. Berry, of Moore; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents, son, Gary W. Cox; brother, Lee Roy Berry; sister, Ethel C. Poulter; infant sister; and grandson, David Cox.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Castle Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Schoolton Cemetery, in Seminole County.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Mike Lewis and assisted by Rev. Donald Walker.
Wilma Cox
Wilma Garnett Cox, 91, longtime Seminole resident went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 3, 2009. Wilma was born at home in the Little, Oklahoma community on October 18, 1917 to pioneer Parents Lawrence B. and Edna (Oliver) Aylor.
She graduated from Prairie Valley High School in Seminole County, in 1935. She graduated from Shawnee Business School and worked for the Pottawatomie County Election Board and several attorneys as a stenographer.
Wilma was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was a fabulous cook and entertainer. She loved to cook for large family gatherings and her church family. She was an excellent pie baker.
Wilma was a member of the Shawnee Wunagiza Chapter of the D.A.R. She also loved her hobby of flower growing. Wilma was a member of the National Judges Council and the Redbud Unit of the Shawnee Garden Council. She loved iris judging and growing along with fancy day lilies and a variety of flowers. She loved nature in general. Wilma enjoyed scattering wild flower seeds along the highways and roadways around Seminole.
Wilma married J.W. "Jim" Cox on December 24, 1938 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Mr. Cox preceded her in death on March 24. 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Susan L. Wilcox on March 27, 1982, one brother Charles L. Aylor and one sister Doris M. Elick.
Wilma is survived by brother and sister-in-law John and Beverly Aylor, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Herman Guin, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; sister and brother-in-law June and Bill Hart of Ada, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her children; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Mike Knowles, of Seminole, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and D.E. "Skip" Dolan, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law, James David and Johnna Kay Cox, of Seminole, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and two step grandchildren, Tim, Randy and Cindy Wilcox, Jeff, Bill and Greg Knowles, and Mike and Duane Dolan; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Church of Christ, in Seminole, on Highway 377 North, with Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Feuerborn, the staff at Seminole Integris Medical Center, Heartland Hospice and Rose Manor Nursing Home for their care.
The family also wishes to celebrate her life, please plant a tree in her memory.
Ruby Coy
Seminole Ruby Jane (Loudermilk) Coy, age 85, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Integris Seminole Medical Center.
Coy was born Oct. 9, 1923 in Keota, to Walter O. and Myrtle (Bowers) Loudermilk. She spent most of her life in Keota eventually moving to Shawnee, and in 1986 she moved to Seminole. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ of Seminole.
In 1954 she married Holbart Coy, in Keota.
She is survived by her son, Kenny Ray Coy, of Galien, Mich.; daughter Myrtle Wylie, of Seminole; sister, Opal Delsigne, of Hazel Park, Mich.; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Holbert "Clint" Coy; brothers, Ethro, Lynn, and Bob Loudermilk; and sister, Helen Chele.
Memorial Services for are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Church of Christ at Little, with Rusty Dawson officiating.
Georgia Crane
Georgia Belle Crane, age 83, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in Holdenville.
She was born June 9, 1926, in Wetumka to Roy Jewel and Marry Maude Jones Kirkpatric. She was a graduate of Holdenville High School where she earned the distinction of being Holdenville’s first girl baton twirler and was chosen Homecoming Queen, in 1943.
On Jan. 4, 1948, she married Frank Crane, in Holdenville, and the couple made their home there. She retired as District Court Reporter and sang in the Holdenville Girls Quartet. She was a member of the Friday Night Bridge Club and was active for years at swimming and dancing. She served as Den Mother to the Boy Scouts and was a Homeroom Mother and s member of the PTA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Colonel Roy Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Frank, of the home; and children, Roy Frank Crane, of Seminole and Karen Ruth Crane, of Norman.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Hudson-Phillips Chapel with Reverend Tom Frase officiating. She will be laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Coley Cravens
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Coley Evelean (Grant) Cravens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2009, at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka.
Lee Wayne Fowler will officiate.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Cravens died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Wewoka Nursing Center at the age of 91.
She was born on April 21, 1918 to Jefferson Lee Grant and Rosie (Schribner) Grant in Monette, Ark.
She married Robert Edward "Finis" Cravens on June 18, 1935 in Calvin.
He preceded her in death on July 2, 2003. Also preceding her in death are her parents, three sisters, and four brothers.
Cravens worked at Big Yank in Wewoka as an inspector for a number of years.
During her spare time, she loved to quilt, garden, and spend time with her family and friends. She was of Baptist faith.
Cravens is survived by two daughters, Betty Lou Moreland and Evelyn Meeks, both of Wewoka; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Donnie Crawford
Donnie Ray Crawford, 71, longtime Seminole resident died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Integris Seminole Medical Center. Donnie was born October 31, 1938 in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Frank and Frankie (Nall) Crawford.
Donnie grew up in Seminole where he attended and graduated from Seminole High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served his tour of duty in Germany; he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class. Donnie lived and worked in Texas after his service time and moved back to Seminole in 1990. Donnie loved the outdoors; he especially loved fishing and hunting, and his special dog. He was very fond of his grandchildren and loved them very much.
Donnie was an oilfield executive with Drilco of Midland, Texas from 1962 to 1984 and for Tom Brown Oil Co. in Midland, Texas from 1984 to 1990.
He married Gloria Henry in Van Buren, Arkansas, on November 12, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Henry Crawford, of the home; three daughters, Lisa and David Davey, of San Diego, California, Erika Crawford of New York City, New York, and Lori Zinnicker, of Austin, Texas; his stepchildren, Chris and Dana Wood, of Claremore, Oklahoma and Jennifer and Travis Caresia, of Choctaw, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ronnie Crawford and his wife Roxie, of Wichita, Kansas, and Dale Crawford and his wife Jo, of Grand Prairie, Texas; four sisters, Ramona Kring and Husband Terry, of Norman, Oklahoma, Gail Bonebrake and husband Steve, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Wanda Schreiner, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Joyce Castor of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Marshall Beddoe, of San Francisco, California, Mitchell Beddoe, of San Diego, California, and Madeline Beddoe, of Santa Barbara, California, Tobin Zinnicker, of Austin, Texas, Alex and Olivia Wood, of Claremore, Raymond Lormer, of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Abbie Caresia, of Choctaw, Oklahoma.
Three brothers George, G.R. and James Crawford and a sister Leona Crawford Scott, preceded him in death.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, in Seminole with Dr. Tommy Clark officiating. Military honors will follow with burial at Little Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Rick Withrow, Raymond Lormer, Bennie Caresia, Travis Caresia, Chris Wood, Kyle Kring, Terry Schreiner and Carl Schreiner, III. Honorary Bearers will be John Zinnicker, Marshall Beddoe, Mitchell Beddoe and Alex Wood.
Lila Crisenberry
Seminole resident Lila Mae Crisenberry, age 75, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, in Oklahoma City.
She was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Arosa, Calif., to Carl James Coons and Lela (Hoover) Coons. She married Floyd L. Crisenberry on Aug. 26, 1950, in Reno, Nev. and the couple lived for a number of years in Allen. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her sons, Floyd Crisenberry, of Seminole, and Jim Crisenberry, of Allen; brother, Billy Coons, of Caldwell, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Allen Cemetery, in Allen, under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Betty Crowe
Betty L. Crowe, age 59, of Cherokee, Kan., died at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 25, 1950 in Bakersfield, Calif., to Claude Long and Beulah (Hall) Long. She lived in Cherokee, Kan. for the last five years, moving from Columbus. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Scammon, Kan.
She married Donald Crowe in Dec. of 1995, in Columbus.
She is survived by her sons, William Smith, of New Lima and Robert Smith, of Seminole; brother, James Long, of Wolf; sisters, Peggy Russell, of Holdenville, Janey Johnson, of Marshfield, Wis., Debbie Bennett, Nora Hoover, Mary Long, all of Cherokee, Kan., Nancy Plumley, of Shawnee, Sheila Whittenburg, and Kathy Frasher, both of Cherokee, Kan; ten grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her father; husband, Donald Crowe; and sister, Alice Goodnight.
A memorial service was scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church, in Scammon, Kan.
Services were under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel, in Joplin, Mo.
Irene Cummings
Graveside Services for Wewoka resident Irene Fay Cummings, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Dan Factor officiating, and assisted by grandsons-in laws Lester Williams and Curtis Cox.
She was born June 27, 1922 in Downey Mills, Texas to Charles Esrum Browning and Maudey Frankie Boyd Browning.
She married Benjamin Cummings Jan. 8, 1944 in Wewoka. To this union two children were born.
Cummings worked at Big Yank Clothing Factory for a number of years as a seamstress. Prior to that, she went to Nursing School.
Surviving her are her daughter, Myrtle Green, of Holdenville; son, James Cummings, of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ben, and sister Ginger Omie Mandrell.
