Lifelong Seminole resident Amelia Madeline Deer, age 72, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Integris Seminole Medical Center. She was born March 6, 1937, in Seminole, to Rev. Willie and Winey (Johnson) Haney.
She was a longtime director of the Seminole Nation Older American Program and after retirement she was primarily a homemaker. She was a graduate of Strother High School and was a member of the Hitichitee Methodist Church where she served as an Elder and Women’s leader of the church. She also served as church treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Deer; parents; and brothers, Woodrow, Sam, Warren, Robert and Ernie Haney.
She is survived by her sons, Ricky Deer and Daryl Deer, both of Oklahoma City, and Joel Deer, of Tulsa; daughters, Melissa Deer, Georgetta Goins and Cheri Deer, all of Seminole; brother, Jerry Haney, of Shawnee; sisters, Lorene Tiger, of Shawnee, Ruth Heddinger, of Tulsa, and Madeline Amos, of Eufaula; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Wake services are scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole, following the wake service she will be taken to the church for an all night wake service. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Hitchitee Methodist Church with burial at the Hitchitee Church Cemetery. Rev. Dave Long, Jr. and Rev. Mike Harjo will officiate the services. She will be taken to Hitchitee Methodist Church after the wake services on Tuesday night for all night wake.
Casket bearers will be: David Deer, Daryl Deer, Jr., Cory Deer, Chris Wassana, Nathan Deer, Darren Fixico, Tyler Combs and Kalone Blackwell.
Honorary bearers will be: Danny Frank Goins, Lorne Fixico, Caiden Deer, Porter Wassana, Cameron and Christian Amos, Michael Haney and Kevin Heddinger.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Sammie Dennie
Sammie Lee Dennie, age 59, a lifetime resident of Konawa, died Friday, April 10, 2009.
She was born Dec. 15, 1949, in Oklahoma City, to Robert E. Dennie and Audrey Ava Marie (Sharp) Dennie. She graduated from Konawa High School, in 1969, and she received a BS HIM in Health Information Management from East Central University, in Ada, in 2006.
She is survived by her father, Robert E. Dennie, of Konawa; brothers, Danny C. Dennie, of Omaha, Neb. and Randy E. Dennie, of Lamar; and sister, Rhonda Godwin, of McLoud.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Audrey "Priss" Dennie and her grandparents.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa. Rev. Tim Emmons, Pastor of First Baptist Church, in Prague, will officiate.
Pallbearers are Jim Sharp and nephews, Brien, Patrick and Michael Lemmings, and Ashton and Robert Dennie, and niece, Alicia Dennie.
Edward Dennis
Shawnee resident Edward R. Dennis, 81, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his home.
He was born April 22, 1927, in Ada, Oklahoma to James M. and Blanche E. (Rice) Dennis and attended Ada Public Schools.
He served in the United States Army directly after World War II in the occupational division.
On Sept. 25, 1948 he married Thekla T. Habereder, in Amberg, Germany.
He received his real estate license and made a home in Roseville, Calif., where he and Thea started their family. Later they moved to Oklahoma where Ed was a homebuilder and farmer until his retirement. Then they made their home in Harlingen, Texas until October 2008, when they moved to Shawnee to be close to family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, five sisters and a son Karl N. Dennis.
He is survived by his wife, Thekla Dennis, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Paula Dennis, of Seminole; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ed Kurth, of Oklahoma City and Bonnie and Tommy Taylor, of Shawnee; grandchildren, Jeremy Dennis, of Seminole, Deena Self, of Sapulpa, Jamie Dennis, of Seminole, Nicole Massey, of Oklahoma City, Zack Taylor, of Shawnee, Jessica Taylor, of Norman, Amber Van Brunt and Kraig Van Brunt, both of Shawnee, and Jamie Adams, of Sasakwa; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been made for cremation with Cooper Funeral Home and the family will have a memorial service at the gravesite at a later date.

Eileen Deshields
Maud resident Eileen Vern Deshields, age 77, passed away at her residence, surrounded by loved ones, Monday, April 6, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services are under the direction of Stout Phillips Funeral Home and scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at Highway Baptist Church, in Little. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate and interment will be at Little Cemetery.
She was born October 2, 1931, in Okemah, to Mack Allen and Bessie (Smith) McCrary. She worked for Big Yank as a seamstress for a number of years.
Eileen and Howard Kenneth Deshields were married January 7, 1994, in Cromwell. He preceded her in death October 18, 2004.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, in Cromwell. She had a love for quilting and crocheting and helping other family members, they were first and foremost.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; brothers, Paul McCrary and Lester McCrary; sisters, Opal Shyrock and June Stinnett; and son Calvin Loyle Pyle.
Survivors include her children, Karen and husband Daniel Ellison, of, North Pole Alaska, Betty and husband Don Brooks, of Maud, Leslie and husband George Nuckolls, of Seminole, Doyle and wife Rebekah Pyle, of Clare, Michigan, Robert Azlin, of Sayre, and daughter-in-law, Gina Pyle, of Maud; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leonard and wife Trudie McCrary, of Dallas, Texas, sister, Nola Barnett, Harrison, of Arkansas, Maxine and Dan Zaffuto, of Tulsa, Betty Keske, of Tulsa; numerous other friends and relatives and loved ones; and special friends Milfred and Connie Pyle, of Kinta.
Phyllis Devore
Phyllis Imogene "Jean" Devore, 84, of Cushing, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Cushing.
She was born July 7, 1924, in Marietta, to Sam Houston Randolph and Jessie Lee (Cox) Randolph. She attended grade school in Marietta and she graduated from High School in Wilson. She married Hugh Devore Oct. 4, 1943 in Miami.
Devore was employed by Parks Drug Pharmacy, in Seminole, until she moved with her husband, to Cushing in 1976.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, in Seminole.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh Devore, of Cushing; son, Terry Devore, of Broken Arrow; daughters, Saundra Manzer and Dianne Murray, both of Stillwater; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George Randolph, Aubia Randolph, and Woodrow Randolph; and three sisters, Ethel Heaton, Ruby Dodd, and Ruth Pritchard.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Fairlawn Cemetery, in Stillwater with Dr. Lee Manzer officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Dial
Wewoka resident, Rob Lee Dial, age 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, in Wewoka.
Dial was born April 15, 1920, in Seminole County, to Rayford and Roxie Dial.
He was in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church, serving as an usher.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Doretha Sneed, Virginia Simpson, and Selina Mayes.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Macedonia Baptist Church, in Wewoka, with Rev. Larry Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Sowatske Cemetery, in Seminole.
Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, of Wewoka.
Dorothy Dicketts
Wewoka resident Dorothy Lee Watters Dicketts passed from this life peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at her home. "She is where she worked all her life to be, in the arms of the Lord, " says Kim Anh Able, granddaughter.
Dorothy was born to Charles Morgan and Lizzie Sharpe Watters on March 19, 1930, in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. Dorothy later married the love of her life, Ralph W. Dicketts on Aug. 15, 1958 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Wewoka and raised two children together.
Dorothy was a dedicated Christian, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend to many.
Dorothy proudly devoted 43 years of her life as a nursing assist at Wewoka Nursing Center. She also provided loving care to the residents at Oakridge Home.
Dorothy was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an ideal caregiver. Her hugs resolved worries and her sweet disposition, gentle nature and shy but contagious smile endeared her to everyone she met.
Dorothy is survived by two children, Jeannie Le and husband Ken, of Wewoka and Tim Dicketts and wife Desera, of Farmington, Ill.; and her favorite canine companion Little Bit. "Nan" is also survived by five granddaughters: Kim Anh Able and husband Micah, of Wewoka, Khanh Le of Stillwater, Mai Le of, Wewoka, Mallorie and Carlye Dicketts, of Farmington, Ill. Dorothy is also survived by one sister Pearlie Davis, of Wewoka, a host of nieces, nephews and a special friend, Dana Roulston, of the Caring Connection, Wewoka.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lizzie Watters; husband, Ralph Dicketts; brother, Alvie Watters; sisters, Ocie Davis, Jewel Partain, Jessie Choate, and Sadie Watters.
Services will be held at the First Assembly of God, Wewoka, Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 2 p.m. under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Dorothea Dickson
Seminole resident Dorothea Kaye Dickson, age 51, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Norman Regional Hospital.
She was born June 28, 1957 in Guthrie, to Russell and Isabella Foutz.
Dickson was a housewife and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, of Wewoka. She moved to Seminole from Texas.
She married James Dickson in Ada, Sept. 4, 1997.
She is survived by her husband, of the home; sons, Jason Gallardo, of Houston, Texas, Brian Gallardo, of Oklahoma City, and Casie Gallardo and Cody Gallardo, both of the home.
A private family memorial service will be held in her memory at a later date.
Mark Dixon
Mark Lee Dixon, age 47, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at his home in Asher.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa. Chris Carter will officiate.
Dixon was born on Sept. 22, 1961, in Wewoka, to Berle Dixon and Leona (Cheek) Dixon. He later married Sabrina Pierce. He was a self-employed truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Dixon; daughter, Sarina Dixon; son, Jeremy Dixon, all of the home; son, Doug Dixon, of Mcloud; daughter, Rachel Curry, of Oklahoma City; mother, Leona Dixon, of Tecumseh; four brothers, Gary Dixon, of Maud, Bobby Dixon, of Shawnee, Jimmy Dixon, of Bethel, and Larry Dixon, of Wilberton; two sisters, Delinda Carthens, of Shawnee and Deanne Norman, of Mcloud; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Berle Dixon.
Homa Dockery
Wewoka resident Homa Jean Dockery passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at the age of 75.
She was born January 14, 1934, in Centrahoma, Oklahoma, to Homer Pullen and Virginia Pullen.
She married Gerald Dockery Sr., May 7, 1951.
Homa Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Dockery Sr.; two sons, Mickey Dockery and Gerald Dockery Jr.; three daughters, Jeannie McNeill, Linda Dockery, and Deborah Sipes; son-in-law, Ronnie Sipes; one sister, Mary Cravens; 9 grandchildren; lots of great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
At Homa Jeans request services will not be held. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.
Billy Dodson
Funeral services for Billy Gene Dodson will be held Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 1 p.m., at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Cromwell, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery in Seminole County.
Billy Gene Dodson was born June 20, 1931, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Johnny R. and Al Goma (Stephens) Dodson. He passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at his home in Cromwell, at the age of 78.
Mr. Dodson had been a resident of the Seminole County area most all of his life. He and Helen Stanfield were married August 24, 1952, in Cromwell. Mr. Dodson retired after 27 years of employment with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He also served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Dodson enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking, and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, of Cromwell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and one son in law, Farron Oliver.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Dodson, of the home; one son, Nolan Eugene "Buddy" Dodson and wife Twana, of Maud, Oklahoma; three daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Burdine and husband Lee, of Midwest City, Karen June Ladd, of Cromwell, and Deborah Annette Oliver, of Ada, Oklahoma; 5 brothers, W.H. Dodson, of Seminole, E.C. Dodson, of Poteau, Bobby Dodson, of Sun City, Arizona, Jamie Dodson, of Cromwell, and Archie Dodson, of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Irene Churchwell, of Shawnee, Loyce Brown, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Geraldine Wallis also, of Phoenix; 7 grandchildren, Gene Pederson, Denise Reed and husband David, Eric Ross and wife Renee, Greg Dodson and wife Keelan, Aaron Oliver, Rachel Jantzen and husband Chuck and Brandon Dodson; and also 9 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dodson’s grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
Services under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. James Baldridge and assisted by Rev. Richard Estorga.
