Joy Durham

Dr. Joy Durham Epperley, 76, of Holdenville passed away in the OU Medical Center, on June 26, 2009.

She lived most of her life in Holdenville. A graduate of Holdenville schools in 1950, Joy continued her education by obtaining a bachelors and masters degree in education from East Central University, as well as obtaining her PhD from the University of Oklahoma. Her teaching experience ranged from Holdenville to Moss public schools. In addition, she spent her last forty years teaching at Seminole State College in the college of business. She touched thousands of student’s lives while fulfilling her dream of being an educator. After her retirement, Joy continued to teach adjunct classes at the college. She loved spending time with her coworkers at the college.

She was a faithful member of the East Main Church of Christ, where she was baptized on November 11, 1944.

Joy enjoyed gardening, cooking, outings with her friends, and spent all of her free time attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. She enjoyed watching Sooner football and basketball games.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Jana Marcum and her husband Alan, of Purcell and their two children, Taylor and Hunter; one brother, Johnny Durham and his wife Naomi, of Grove and their two children Terry Durham and Linda Chase; aunt Ruth DeShields, of Atwood and Uncle Bill Durham, of Napa, Calif.; grandchildren, Todd Epperley and Michelle Edwards children of stepson Mike Epperley, and Brett Epperley son of stepson Bruce Epperley; and many other great grandchildren and other family members.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the East Main Church of Christ, in Holdenville, under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, with interment following at the Holdenville Cemetery.

Clint Evans

Clint M. Evans, age 80, longtime Seminole County resident, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Integris Baptist Hospital, in Oklahoma City. He was born March 27, 1929, in Wewoka, to Onie Evans and Eunice Marie (Fallin) Evans.

He served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant. He also earned his Masters Degree from Syracuse University, in Syracuse, N.Y. He worked as C.E.O. for General Grocers, later he taught at Westland College for several years before going to work for Fleming Foods and later IGA. He also held different offices in the Meat Cutters Union. He was an official referee for the N.F.L. He is a former member of the Seminole Elks Lodge.

He married T.A. (Corzine) "Tece" Evans on July 7, 1990, in Seminole.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Clint, Rick and Bob Evans; daughters, Doveoshia Crane, of Wewoka, Junialee Thornburg, of Purcell, and Tina Thornburg, of Louisiana; and four grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father; mother, stepfather, Homer Dale "Sparky" Haifley; and brother, O’Neil Evans.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Hill Top Baptist Church on Hwy. 59 between Seminole and Wewoka. Rev. Hershel Davis, Rev. Tim Wolf and Rev. Russell Ryker will officiate the service. Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, in Seminole.

Casket Bearers will be: Scott Crane, Gary Crane, Chad Nickham, Tim Wolf, Joseph Davis and Hershel Davis.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Jana Evans

Former longtime Seminole resident Jana Sue Evans, 58, now of Muskogee, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Monday, May 18, 2009.

She was born to Adler and Mary Francis (Noe) Haskins, September 14, 1950 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Jana graduated from Seminole High School in 1968. She married Howard Evans in 1971, and they lived together in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Jana is survived by her three children, Brian Evans, of Bedford, Texas; Scott and Erin Evans, of Bedford, Texas; Steven and Jessica Evans, of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Bernice Haskins, of Muskogee, Oklahoma; she is also is survived by three grandchildren, Caleb, Hailey and Brandon as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Adler and Mary Francis (Noe) Haskins.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Historic Strother Chapel at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. A burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Deanna Everhart

Deanna Carol (Blackwood) Everhart, age 64 and long-time resident of Konawa, died Thursday, August 20, 2009, at her residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, at Vamoosa Baptist Church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Kevin Duck will officiate.

Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bill Everhart, Jr., Jim Blackwood, Jerry Blackwood, Johnny Blackwood, Eddie Dee Blackwood, and Jeff Morris.

Visitation will be today from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Everhart was born to Alton D. Blackwood and Effie (Hankins) Blackwood on April 26, 1945 in Richmond, Calif. She married Arthur W. Everhart, Sr. on August 18, 1964 in Rodeo, Calif. They moved from California in 1977.

She worked as an LPN in the health care profession. She loved being around her family and friends, and she also loved to sing and to listen to gospel music.

Everhart is survived by one son, Arthur W. "Bill" Everhart, Jr. of Ada; one daughter, Carol Morris of Konawa; one sister, Pat Brotherton of Clearlake Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Effie Blackwood, and her husband, Arthur Everhart.

James Factor, Sr.

James Andrew (Saylor) Factor Sr., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, in Oklahoma City.

He was born March 20, 1942, to Chester and Lizzie (McCoser) Factor, in Talihina.

He grew up around the Holdenville and Tate Mountain areas. He was baptized at Many Springs Baptist Church and a graduate of Haskell's Institute in Lawrence, Kan.

He lived his adult life in Oklahoma City, where he bowled and golfed. He was also a mechanic.

He is survived by his brother, Leon Factor, of Wewoka; sisters, Yvonne Jim, of Wewoka; and Ruth Walker, of Tecumseh; daughter, Kymberly Dian Hazlett; sons, Kevin Dewayne Factor and James Andrew Factor Jr. (Peewee); grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Max Factor and sister, Ida Mae Factor.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct.6, 2009, at Many Springs Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Anderson.

Edward Factor

Edward Lee Factor, age 72, of Maud, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Mercy Memorial Hospital, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Edward was born on May 6, 1936, in Konawa, Oklahoma, to Timmie Ray Factor and Susie Mae (Cummings) Factor. Edward, a life-long Seminole County resident, was a Konawa High School graduate and a barber by trade. He was a member of High Springs Baptist Church and a former Council Member of the Tusekia Harjo Band. He was also an avid sports fan and a Merle Haggard fan.

He is survived by four sons, Rodney Factor, of Wolf, Oklahoma, Terry Factor, of Ada, Oklahoma, Paul Factor, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Mark Factor, of Ada, Oklahoma; two daughters, Rita Loder, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Lori Factor, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; one brother, Timmie Factor, Jr., of Shawnee, Oklahoma; three sisters, Vera Mae Harjo, of Wolf, Oklahoma, Francina Johnson, of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Betty Harjo, of Wolf, Oklahoma; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; and a very special personal friend, Geraldine Cloud, of Konawa, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Timmie and Susie Factor, and two brothers, Roman and Glen Factor.

A wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at High Springs Baptist Church, in Konawa, Oklahoma, and funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, May 4, at the church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa. Bunny Carpitcher and Jimsey Harjo will officiate, and burial will follow at the Factor Family Cemetery, in Wolf, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers are Travis Hunter, Frank Lankford, Audie Lankford, Herman Foster, Keith Motley, and Charles Burgess.

The grandsons are honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Amy Findley

Lifelong Seminole resident Amy Leann (Renfro) Findley, age 38, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, in Ada. She was born Aug. 29, 1971, in Seminole, to Bert E. Renfro and Linda C. (McKee) Renfro.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, in Seminole, and worked in the healthcare industry caring for mentally disabled people.

She is survived by her parents, of Seminole; daughter, Brayden Brea Findley, of Seminole; and sister, Cindy Stone, of Seminole.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, 2009 at the First Assembly of God Church, in Seminole. Rev. Perry Justus and Rev. Doyle Long will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery located north of Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Katie Fixico

Seminole resident Katie Fixico, age 72, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Integris Hospital, in Shawnee.

She was born May 18, 1936, in Concho, to Mack and Mary (Black). She attended schools in the Concho area and after graduating high school she worked in a curtain factory until she married T. J. Fixico. After marriage she became a full time homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, of the home; sons, Marlin Fixico, of Washington, D.C, Edmund Fixico, of Parshal, N.D., T.J. Fixico, Jr., of Shawnee, Lorne D. Fixico, of Shawnee, and Jerrald M. Fixico, of Seminole; daughters, Maurine Fixico, of Oklahoma City and Beverly Fixico, of New Town N.D.; brothers, Alec Warden, Sr., Mac Haag, Jr., and Ronald Haag; sisters, Maurine Charcoal, of Geary and Leah Scott, of Oklahoma City; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A wake service is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2009, at New Hope Fellowship Church, in Cromwell. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, at New Hope Fellowship Church, then a 2 p.m. service at the Community Hall, in Concho, with Reverends Jay Swallow and Alfred White Crow officiating.

Burial will be in the Concho Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Darin, Tony, and Devon Fixico, Henry Hicks, Thomas Hicks, and Mac Haag.

Services are under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home, in Okemah.

Judy Flannery

Seminole resident Judy C. Flannery, age 65, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Integris Seminole Medical Center. Judy was born July 11, 1944 in Ada, Oklahoma to Dewight and Molly (Graham) Megee. Judy moved to Seminole from Shawnee seven years ago, prior to that she had lived in Midland, Texas.

Judy married Charley E. Flannery on February 8, 1963 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Judy was a homemaker. She loved to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, wrestling, car races and reading. Judy had attended Victory Baptist Church in Maud, Oklahoma and enjoyed visiting and eating meals at the Heritage House in Seminole.

Her husband Charley E. Flannery of Seminole, Oklahoma, survives her. One daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Mecheal and Raymond Sanders, of Seminole, Oklahoma and one Son, Michael Charles Flannery, of Seminole, Oklahoma. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Christopher James Yarbrough and wife Sheritta, Stormy Dawn Yarbrough, Kenny Sanders and Radeian Sanders and three great-great grandchildren: Ava Denise Yarbrough, Robert Smith Yarbrough and Christopher James Yarbrough due this month.

Her parents, grandparents and a brother Jim Megee preceded her in death.

The family is planning private family services at a later date.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, Oklahoma.

Sonnie Foley

Former Seminole resident Sonnie Foley, age 71, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, in Tulsa.

He was born July 16, 1938, in Holdenville, to Joe Foley and Hattie Long Foley.

He spent his early years in Hughes County. He attended Hartshorne Indian Boarding School and later attended Haskett College, in Lawrence, Kan. He entered the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict, as an Air Policeman, while stationed in Europe. He returned to Holdenville following his discharge, in 1965.

He was married to JoAnn Dunzy. They lived in different locations, as his job required. He worked for Creek Nation before relocating to Oklahoma City to work for General Motors. He returned to Hughes County, in 1975

He was a member of the Salt Creek Baptist Church, where he was baptized last year.

He is survived by his wife; children, Brian Foley, of Wetumka, Larry Barnes, of Rhome, Texas, Jerry Foley, of Wetumka, and Dana Foley, of Weleetka; sisters, Lela Lewis, of Dustin, Anna Harris, of Albuquerque, N.M., Maurine Foley, of Wetumka, and Susie Kasero, of Laguna, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and one great grand child.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Tom; sisters, Wanda Foley and Josephine Prince; and son Mark.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, at the Salt Creek Baptist Church, in Wetumka with Rev. J.B. Fish officiating and Rev. Eugene Whitlow assisting. Interment will be at he Salt Creek Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home, in Wetumka.

Ivy Forbis

Ivy Edward Forbis, age 71, from Konawa, died, his residence, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Konawa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa. A Rosary service is scheduled for 7 p.m Friday, Jan. 16, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa. Father Adrian Vorderlandwehr, OSB will officiate.

He was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Ketchum, to Harold Lee Forbis, Sr. and Jewel (Periman) Forbis. He married Juanima (Rhodd) on March 29, 1964, in Maud. He was the Chief of Police in Wyandotte, for sixteen years. He was also a police officer for Spavinaw, Konawa, Maud, and Roff. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Juanima Forbis, of the home; three sons, Dickie Forbis, of Ketchum, George Forbis, of Picher, and Kenny Forbis, of Konawa; six daughters, Vickie Cody, of Coweta, Jo Peck, of Wagoner, Sue Forbis, of Wagoner, Sandy Forbis, of Moundsville, Mo., Diana Cahoon, of Konawa, and Happy Mills, of Pomona, Kan.; two brothers, Harold Lee Forbis, Jr., of Miami and Charles Lee Forbis, of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Geneva Smoke, of Ketchum and Woneda Moffett, of Cleoria; twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Jewel Forbis; sister, and Dovie Lou Forbis.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Robert Peck, Keith Forbis, Daniel Forbis, Cory Cahoon, Colby Cahoon, and Chris Mills. Honorary Pallbearers are Dale Neal and Bailey Brice.
