Sylvia Forson

Sylvia Ann Forson, 74, longtime Seminole resident died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Seminole Medical Center. Mrs. Forson was born May 6, 1934, in Maud, to James L. and Edna L. (Lindsay) Wilson.

Sylvia grew up in Carr City, and attended Pleasant Grove Schools west of Seminole. She married David Forson on May 9, 1951, in Ada. In 1952, after the birth of their first child, Mr. Forson was transferred from Seminole to Hobbs, N.M., where they lived for 17 years. They subsequently moved to Casper, Wyoming for 3 years and then to Denver, Colorado for 28 years before returning to Seminole 10 years ago.

Sylvia built life-long friendships and Christian fellowship at every stage along her journey. She was an active and committed member of First Baptist Church, in Seminole.

Sylvia was a homemaker for most of her life, something she always considered a high calling. She was a loving, and well-loved, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Bible study, prayer and worship were among Sylvia’s most favorite pastimes throughout her adult life. She taught many Sunday School classes over the years and joyfully served in many other church ministries including WMU (she was past president of a local WMU chapter), GA’s and choir.

Together with David, she went on many mission trips to foreign countries for the Lord, including five trips to Korea and trips to Norway, Japan and England. She loved sewing and cooking in earlier years and never lost her joy for holding babies and playing with children. Sylvia, with David, daily enjoyed sharing meals and fellowship with many good friends, including the family of David’s sister Jerri Sullivan and her husband, Cecil, of Seminole, and also including Sylvia’s sister, Pat, and her husband, Kevin, of Shawnee.

Sylvia valiantly struggled against the increasingly destructive effects of her dementia. Although much of her independence and capacity for memory had been lost, she somehow succeeded, by the grace of God, in retaining her robust spirit of kindness, friendliness and charity throughout.

Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, David Forson, of Seminole. They have four surviving children; daughter, Vicki Williams, of Billings, Mont., daughter, Karen Wilkin, and her husband Lanny, of Seattle, Wash., son David Forson, Jr., and his wife, Lisa, of Sugarland, Texas, and daughter, Julie Voorhies, and her husband James, of Casper, Wyo. Sylvia has four surviving siblings, one brother, Thomas Wilson and his wife Pat, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and three sisters, Louise Craven, of Montgomery, Ala., Nellie Evans, of Binghamton, N.Y., and Patricia Taylor, of Shawnee. Sylvia is loved by thirteen surviving grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.

Sylvia is survived by brother-in-law Danny Forson, and his wife, Nadine, of Greenville, Texas, sister-in-law Margaret Wootten, of Hobbs, N.M. and David’s sisters Vivian Morris and Jerri Sullivan, both of Seminole. Sylvia is also survived by many well-loved nieces, nephews and cousins, and honorary family members Yunmoon Jung and Sunyoung Kwon, formerly residents of Denver and currently of Edmonton, Canada.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Betty Good and a brother Donald Wilson.

Funeral Services are planned for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, in Seminole, with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Dr. Tommy Clark, assisted by Rev. Russ Richardson, will officiate the services.

Casket Bearers will be grandsons Todd Hornbuckle, William Forson, Jared Wilkin, Taylor Wilkin and Tanner Wilkin and son-in-law James Voorhies.

The family acknowledges its debt of gratitude owed to the membership and clergy of First Baptist Church, Seminole, and would like any memorial donations to be made in Sylvia’s name to: "The Bridge" building project at First Baptist Church, for the children’s play area.
