Beloved mother, Melba Colleen Lunsford Courtney, 88 years old went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 23rd, 2014.
She was born Feb. 3, 1926 to Stephen Franklin Cowan and Edna Gertrude Wylie Cowan in Henryetta, Okla.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Lunsford of Wewoka, Mary Lunsford Smith and husband Allen of Davenport; her son, James Lunsford of Wewoka; brother, Carlon Cowan of Arkansas, five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Douglas Lunsford; her parents; brothers, Milam Cowan, Stephen Cowan, and Russell Cowan; son, John Lunsford; granddaughter, Lorie Smith; and grandson, Paul Lunsford.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday March 27, 2014 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brent Cowan, Josh Lunsford, Hunter Lunsford, John Haller, and Lee McElroy.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Wallace Cowan
Wallace Reed Cowan, Sr. 84, longtime Seminole and Maud resident, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Maud, Okla.
Wallace was born on April 27, 1930 in Bowlegs, Okla. to Myrtle Inez (Cobb) and Walter Reed Cowan.
Wallace lived in the Seminole area all his life, he graduated from Gypsy High School in 1947, and later joined the U.S. Army serving his country from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.
Wallace was a member of the Church of Christ at Maud.
He loved to read old western novels, but his favorite writer was Zane Grey.
Wallace worked and later owned the Green Spray Grocery Store located on State Street where "Richards" is located currently; Wallace was there for 17 years.
He also worked one year at O’Daniel’s Grocery in Maud and in 1974 started his career in the Seminole oilfields.
He was a roustabout for Bill Morris Tank Service for many years and then became an independent contract oilfield pumper for area oil producers.
His knowledge and dependability made him very well respected in the Seminole oilfields.
He married Matilda Maxine Coker on Aug. 6, 1952 in Seminole, Okla. and she preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 2007.
Wallace is survived by his son, Wallace Reed "Wally" Cowan Jr. of Maud, Okla., his daughter, WaDean Margarita Cowan of Maud, Okla., his brother, Dorval Cowan and his wife Joan of Bartlesville, Okla. and his sister, Mary Keys of Bartlesville, Okla.; his grandchildren, D’Nay Rowsey and her husband Derek of Ada, Okla., Danielle Wells and her husband Robert of Dickson, Okla. and Lori Brewer and her husband Bryan of Maud, Okla., John Grove and Brandi Proffitt of Maud, Okla.; great grandchildren, Desiree Paterson and Austin Claybourn of Ada, Okla., Emily Hamilton and Erin Wells of Dickson, Okla., Colton and Hailee Grove of Maud, Okla., Devin and Braxton Brewer of Maud, Okla. and a great-great-grandchild, Easton Claybourn; also by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Majel Carpitcha, Anne Kemp, Tony Costello and wife Mary, Russell Wilson, Betty Feigel and her husband Steve.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at the Coker Family Cemetery near Maud, Okla. Military honors will be provided following the Funeral Service, by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Casket bearers will be John Grove, Colton Grove, Robert Wells, Derek Rowsey, Bryan Brewer and Devin Brewer.
Honorary bearers will be Austin Claybourn, Albert Flesher and his many oilfield colleagues.
Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Arthur Cranfield
Arthur William Cranfield; nickname "Nog" passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at his home in Seminole, Okla. at the age of 82 years.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 14, 2014 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.
Arthur "Nog" Cranfield was born June 28, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Harvey and Hettie Watts Cranfield.
He graduated from Crooked Oak High School in Oklahoma City and later married Roxie Ivers Cranfield on June 10, 1950.
Arthur worked many years for Wonder Bread and later as the Seminole county jail Minister.
Arthur taught Sunday School at Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka.
He loved building and landscaping but serving the Lord meant the most to Arthur.
Arthur is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roxie Cranfield; son, Danny Cranfield; brother, Jim Cranfield; sister, Rose Streets; and grandson, Kirk William Cranfield.
Arthur is survived by his children, Leanna Kay and husband, James Tiger of Seminole, Roxie Ann and husband, Michael Ginn of Sitka, Alaska, and Sammy and wife, Pam Ivers of Prague; brothers, David Cranfield of Atwood, Ralph Cranfield of Oklahoma City; and sister, Bobbi Goss of Moore; grandchildren, Michael Tiger, James Tiger Jr. Lisa Tiger, Danny Cranfield Jr., Lori Cranfield, Jenny Smith, Julie Ivers, Alisha Wilson, Ashley Yatman, Chris Garrison, Israel Ginn, and Rachel Sorokin; and 29 great grandchildren.
Jesse Crawford
Dec. 24, 1929 – Aug. 6, 2014
The journey for Jesse Lee Crawford began on December 24th, 1929 in Wewoka, Okla.
He was the second of three children born to Allie (Webster) Crawford and Isaiah Crawford.
He married Charleszetta Woodfork. This union was blessed with two sons, Larry T. Crawford (Geraldine) and Earl M. Crawford (Geraldina).
Jesse received his education in Wewoka Douglas school system, and was a member of the Douglas High School Alumni Association.
He was a long time employee of Tinker AFB as an structural mechanic retiring after over 30 years of service.
Jesse served his country as a member of the US Army from February 1951 to February 1953.
Giving his life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. He served as a deacon at Galilee Baptist Church in Seminole under his father in law the late Pastor Jesse E. (JE) Woodfork Sr. and later at New Jerusalem under Bishop Bobby L. Williams Sr. until his health wouldn't allow him to attend.
He was a member of Livingston #175 Masonic Lodge, where he was a Past Master; member of L. Ashley Chapter #3 Holy Royal Arch Masons, and the Florence C. Johnson Chapter #85 OES Worthy Patron.
He faithfully attended all events and functions associated with the Prince Hall Jurisdiction of Oklahoma fraternal organization.
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 the Lord saw a need and call Jesse from labor to reward, from the Hospice Quality Care Home in Midwest City, Okla.
Proceeding him in death, his parents, Allie and Isaiah; brother, James; sister, Dorothy; wife, Charleszetta, and one son, Larry.
Left to cherish his memory, son Earl Michael Crawford (Geraldina); niece he helped raise, Koretta McArthur (Brian); daughter in law Geraldine; Uncle L.R. Webster; sister in laws, Rose Woodfork, and Gladys Crawford; nine grandchildren, LaDonna, Travetta, Larry Jr., Cornelius, Timothy, Paulina, Niyah, Miyah, and Michiyah; 17 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at the New Jerusalem Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ at 1621 Bishop Bobby L. Williams Drive in Oklahoma City, Okla. Rev. Larry Payne will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, in Seminole with Military Honors.
Opal Criswell
Opal Marie Criswell, life long Seminole resident passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at her residence, at the age of 66.
Opal was born Feb. 22, 1948 in Shawnee, Okla. to parents, David A. Cole and Faye Neoma (Griffin) Cole.
Opal grew up in the Seminole area and graduated from New Lima High School.
After her high school graduation, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from East Central College of Ada, Okla.
She was a third grade teacher at Varnum Elementary School.
She married J. Ted Criswell, Dec. 7, 1977.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Opal is survived by, her husband of 37 years, Ted Criswell of the home; two daughters, Shelly Wood and her husband Thom of Seminole, Okla., Melanie Madden and her husband Jay of Tecumseh, Okla. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Allyson Madden, Kayleigh Wood, Morgan Madden, Hannah Madden, Kaleb Wood, Jacob Madden and Kyle Wood.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, David and Faye Cole and two brothers, David Lee Cole and Charles Cole.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens of Seminole.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Harold Crosby
Mar. 31, 1932 - July 13, 2014
Harold Gene Crosby, 82, former Seminole resident, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 in Boise, Idaho.
Harold was born March 31, 1932 in McLean, Tex. to Clarence and Rebecca Crosby; he was the fourth of five children.
While Gene worked his way through undergraduate and graduate school at Oklahoma State University, Gene bought a plane.
He loved to fly to OSU wrestling matches with his friends, "living on beer and peanuts."
He was a smoke jumper and seasonal pilot for the U.S. Forest Service, which brought him to McCall, Idaho, where he met his wife of 20 years, Harriet Anderson.
They moved to Boise, Idaho, where Gene worked at the Titan Missile Complex in Ada County.
They returned to McCall, Idaho, so Gene could work for Johnson Air Company, flying mail and hunters into the backcountry, and "pregnant women and shot hunters out."
Gene’s next job was in Boise, Idaho, working for Joe Albertson, as his co-pilot, flying him around the country as the grocery store chain expanded.
In 1969, Gene and Harriet bought a "160-acre homestead" farm near Notus, Idaho, Gene lived at Dirty Sock Ranch, fondly named after all the socks drying on the porch after changing sprinkler lines, until 1984, when he moved back to Boise, Idaho.
Notable awards were; "Million Miler" for flying one million miles without an accident, quite a feat with a single engine propeller planes over mountainous terrain, and "Grassman of the Year".
Gene served on the Notus, Idaho school board and on the Chamber of Commerce board at Caldwell, Idaho.
Gene served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1957.
Gene is survived by his sister, Ann Vanlandingham of Seminole, Okla.; a daughter, Cherrill Moran of Tempe, Ariz.; two sons, Brian Scott Crosby of Boise, Idaho and Brent Anderson Crosby of Valley Ford, Wash.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Little Cemetery Chapel at Little Cemetery in Seminole, Okla. Chris Stinnett will officiate at the services.
Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Patricia Crummett
Patricia Kaye (Honsinger) Crummett, 60, a resident of Seminole, Okla. died Aug. 8, 2014 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee, Okla.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Bro. Mike Wester will officiate. Burial will follow at Wolf Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jim Julian, John Julian, Brandon Perkinson, Gaye Heffley, Xavier Manuel, and Preston Parker.
Honorary pallbearers are Leroy Wayne Phelps, Jesse Phelps, Guy Phelps, and Dakota Cotanny.
She was born Oct. 9, 1953 in Seminole to Ray Fenton Honsinger and Goldy (Saxon) Honsinger.
She received her LPN license from Pontotoc County Vo-tech Nursing School on July 26, 1991, and worked as an EMT- Intermediate Paramedic. She retired from nursing in 2008.
She married David Crummett on Sept. 14, 1981 in Galveston, Tex.
She is survived by one son, Robert Keith Crummett of Tecumseh, Okla.; one daughter, Rhonda Crummett also of Tecumseh; five sisters, Margaret Orr of Chickasha, Okla., Mary Dawson of Chickasha, Roberta Phelps of Seminole, JoAnn Julian of Seminole, and Connie Heffley of Eufaula, Okla.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Goldy Honsinger; her husband, David Crummett; and two brothers, Robert and Richard Honsinger.
