Faye Harjo

Faye Harjo, 52, passed away at her home in Weatherford, Okla. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.

She was born on May 18, 1961 in Oklahoma City, Okla. to John and Lucy (Kilcrease) Franks.

She graduated from Sasakwa in 1979 and attended Bacone Indian College in Muskogee for one year.

She married Leslie Harjo, Jr. in 1983 in Okmulgee, Okla. From this union was born one daughter, Valerie.

Faye's greatest love was for her family.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, going shopping, especially the Etcetera Store in Weatherford, Okla. She enjoyed talking with her family and friends and spending time with her granddaughters.

She never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone.

She had made a profession of her faith in Christ and was Baptized at Okmulgee Indian Baptist Church and attended Caddo Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, Okla.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Franks.

She is survived by her husband, Leslie of the home; one daughter, Valerie Pekah and husband, Will of Weatherford, Okla.; her mother, Lucy Franks of Sasakwa, Okla.; four brothers, Virgil Franks and wife, Linda of Ada, Okla., Ray Franks of Seminole, Okla., Danny Franks of Sasakwa, Okla., George Franks and wife, Konowa of Holdenville, Okla.; two sisters, Molly Mack of Shawnee and Margie Lena and her husband, Manuel of Wewoka; two grandchildren, Natalie Faye Pekah and Rylie Kaye Pekah; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

All-night prayer service is planned beginning at 6 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the First Caddo Indian Baptist Church, Fort Cobb, Okla.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, Okla. Rev. Amon Harjo will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Cobb, Okla.

Services are under the directions of Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko, Okla.

Howard Harjo

Howard Hugh Harjo, former Seminole County resident, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 in Lexington, Okla., at the age of 56.

Howard was born November 21, 1957 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Isaac Harjo and Juanita Little Wise. He graduated from Varnum High School

Howard worked as an engineer for the US Army Corps of Engineers.

He is survived by wife Roselyn Henderson and his mother, Juanita Little Wise of Seminole, Okla., two daughters, Amanda and Amber Harjo of Sapulpa, Okla., one brother, Steve Harjo; two sisters, Rowena Gonzales of Tulsa, Okla., and Amy Fixico of Seminole, Okla., numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Harjo, and two brothers, Buddy Keith Harjo and Ronnie Lee Harjo.

Wake services were held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 6:30 PM at Hitchitee United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Hitchitee United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Tecumseh officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Neil Harjo, Calvin Harjo, Buddy Harjo, Jr, Isaac Harjo, Steve Barnett, Jordan Gonzales and Tony Fixico. Honorary bearers will be Osceola Little, Marty Fixico, Pearcy Harjo, Foster Yeager, Nathan Harjo, Ronnie Harjo, Jr, Terry Harjo and Randy Harjo.

Burial will follow at the Hitchitee Church Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Jimmy Harjo

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Jimmy Lee "Sonny Boy" Harjo will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Reverend Ed George officiating.

Wake service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 6 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Gibson, Daniel Mitchell, Jared Pennock, Raymond Pennock, Jack Hill and Buffalo Hill.

Honorary bearers will be Tom Harjo, Rabbitt Hill, Issacc Hill, Patrick Harjo, Mike Harjo and James Harjo.

Burial will follow at Harjo Family Cemetery north of Seminole.

He died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 62.

He was born Nov. 19, 1951 in Talihina, Okla. to Ben Tanyan and Lorene Coody but was raised by adoptive parents, Cornelius and JoAnna (Larney) Harjo.

He graduated from Konawa High School and later attended OSU Okmulgee Tech.

He married Sherry Harjo on Nov. 24, 1975 in Seminole.

He was a fork lift driver at Commerical Brick for over 24 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry of the home; one son, Cornell Jackson Harjo of the home; daughter, Brandi Harjo of the home; daughter, Crystal Harjo of Clewiston, Fla.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Gibson; one brother, Vernon Harjo of Amarillo, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Curtis Harjo, Anthony Tanyan and sisters, Ruby Tanyan and Carolyn Talamasey.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Vera Harjo

Vera Mae Factor Harjo, age 92 of Wolf passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at home.

She was born Feb. 9, 1922 in Snomac, Okla. to the late Timmie Ray Factor and Susie Cummings Factor.

Vera attended schools at St. Mary's Academy, Sacred Heart, Okla., Chilocco Indian School in New Kirk, Okla., Konawa High School, Konawa, Okla., Seminole Jr. College, and East Central University, Ada, Okla.

She married Albert Lee Harjo, April 12, 1944 in Wewoka, Okla., they were married for 60 years before his passing, Oct. 2, 2004.

Vera was a member of High Spring Baptist Church, and Sister Leader for a number of years.

She was also a member of the Tusekia Harjo Band.

She worked for Boeing Air Craft at Tinker Air Force Base; a teacher at Seminole Nation Head Start; and later an Teacher's Aide at Bowlegs Head Start.

Preceding Vera in death are her parents; husband Albert; brothers Roman Factor, Glenn Ray Factor, and Edward Lee Factor.

Survivors include sisters, Francina Johnson, and Betty Jean Harjo; one brother Timmy Ray Factor Jr.; seventeen nieces and nephews; and numerous great-and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Factor, Terry Factor, Bo Ellis, Herman Foster, Billy "Skip" Foster, and Ricky Davis.

Wake service will be 6 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Jimsey Harjo officiating and burial at Wolf Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Edith Harjoe

Wake services for Edith Alice Rogers Harjoe are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with J.B. Fish officiating.

The body will be taken to the home at 200 Dotson in Cromwell on Thursday at 9 a.m.

On Friday the body will be taken to the Little Quarsarty Church at 9:30 a.m. for an 8 p.m. Wake Service.

Funeral service will be Saturday May 24 2014 at 1 p.m. and burial will follow at Little Quarsarty Cemetery.

Edith was born Dec. 18, 1922 in Bearden, Okla. and passed away Tuesday at her home in Cromwell.

Edith was a seamtress at Big Yank for a number of years.

She was baptized Dec. 24, 1961 by Rev. Dan Scott and a lifelong member of Little Quarsarty Baptist Church.

She loved to attend Church, sew, spend time with her grandchildren and watching Major league baseball and the Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball.

Edith was foster parent to numerous kids. She loved to be around kids.

"She never met a kid or a dog that she would turn away."

Preceding Edith in death is her spouse, Ben Harjoe; son, Raymond Buddy and wife Darlene Harjo; three grandchildren, Todd Harjo, Rona Silva, and Damion Ray Harjo; and sister, Florina Bear.

Survivors include children, Jeanne Walker of Cromwell, Okla., Thomas Harjo of Okemah, Okla., Nolen and Lenora Robinson of Coweta, Okla., Ben Harjo and wife Patty of Cromwell, Okla., Lewis and wife Joy Miller of Wewoka, and Wanda (Kay) Murray and spouse Robert Downey; grandchildren, Mitch and Chris Price, Aimee Harjo, Scott and Kevin Robinson, Thomas Harjo, Angie Green, Matt Miller, Beverly Harjo, Chelsea Murray, Gina Silva, Tina McDowell, Cincinnati Harjo, Leona Hicks, Jim Hicks, and Michale Thompson; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pall Bearers will be Robert Downey, Nolen Robinson, Bryan Harjo, Anthony Harjo, Sonny Price, and Rosendo Cervantez.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be Mitch Price, Chris Price, Scott Robinson, Kevin Robinson, Thomas Harjo, Matt Miller, Cincinnatti Harjo, Jim Hicks, Skylar Price and Kaden Price.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Marilyn Aldridge Harkins

1936-2014

Marilyn was born in Wewoka, Okla. on Jan. 24, 1936 to J. Bart and Marjory McNemer Aldridge.

Wewoka is the Capital of the Seminole Nation, and Marilyn was a proud member of the tribe.

After graduating from Wewoka High School, Marilyn attended Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

She later transferred to the University of Oklahoma, pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority and became a lifelong Sooner fan.

While at OU, she met Richard E. Harkins whom she married in 1958.

They settled in Kansas City, Mo. and raised three children.

Marilyn was actively involved with KC Anthenaeum, PEO, Bridge Club, OU and Pi Phi Alumni activities, and traveled extensively with her late husband.

Marilyn left this world on April 16, 2014.

She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Scott and daughter, Melanie.

She is survived by a son, Christopher Harkins; grandchildren, Alisha Harkins, Nathan Harkins, Jeremy Harkins and Alex Rutz, all of the greater Kansas City area.

Additional survivors include one niece and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The University of Oklahoma Foundation, Inc., 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019-0685 or The Seminole Nation Museum, 524 S. Wewoka (P. O. Box 1532), Wewoka, OK 74884-1532.

A memorial service followed by burial will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Company, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
