Jerry Lee Nelson, 71-year old Maud, Okla. resident passed from this life on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at his home in Maud surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 11, 1942 in Ada, Okla. to parents Audie Lee Nelson and Ina Lavida (Crawley) Nelson.
Jerry grew up in Ada where he graduated from Ada High School in 1960.
On Oct. 21, 1981 Jerry married Nickie Thompson in Shawnee, Okla.
Jerry owned and operated the Maud Nursing Home for several years.
While at the same time he was a very active horse trainer. He had won several horse races throughout Oklahoma and surrounding states.
Jerry had served as the Commissioner for the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission. He was also a member of the Thoroughbred Association.
Jerry love to raise cattle and later in life he worked as a manager for Wrangler Jean Company in Seminole until his retirement.
He was also of the Baptist faith.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of almost 33 years, Nickie (Thompson) Nelson; his mother, Ina Castleberry of Ada, Okla.; one son, Jerry Lee "Jay" Nelson and his wife Terri of Maud, Okla.; one daughter, Jennifer Fosler and her husband Steve of Snyder, Okla.; two step-sons, Frank D. Hopkins and his wife Mandy of Maud, Okla., Nicholas B. Hopkins and his wife Jennifer of College Station, Tex.; one brother, Dewayne Nelson and his wife Sheryl of San Antonio, Tex.; one sister, Pam Scroggins and her husband Tim of Francis, Okla.; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Audie Lee Nelson and by one sister, Deanna Nelson Hurst.
Honorary Bearers will be Gene Cole, Bob Miller, Furman Huff and Shawn Wofford.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Okla. with Chaplain Darrell Witten officiating the service.

Kenny Joe Newell
Kenny Joe Newell, 49, Shawnee, Okla. resident, died Friday, February 21, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Kenney was born February 21, 1965 in Norman, Okla. to Kay Donna (Jarrell) and Terry Joe Newell.
Kenny grew up in Shawnee and attended Strother High School, Northeast of Seminole. Kenny was the valedictorian of his graduating class in 1982. Kenny was an active member of the Church of Christ. During his work career he was a self-employed welder. He also did construction work and farmed several hundred acres in western Oklahoma.
Kenny is survived by his father, Terry Joe Newell and wife Jo Ann Newell of Shawnee, Okla.; a son, Jesse Newell of Sweetwater, Okla., a daughter Jill Newell of Edmond, Okla.; brother Keith Newell and wife Terri of Orange, Tex.; two sisters, Donnita Ward and husband Terry of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Lori Mathews of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Kenny was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Donna Newell in 1995.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, with burial following at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Speaking at the funeral service will be; Ray Newell, Larry Sneed, Tim Flynn and Bobby Allen.

Loretta Newman
Loretta May Newman, 82, longtime Seminole resident, died, Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Chandler, Okla.
Loretta was born Feb. 1, 1932 in Heavener, Okla. to Pearlie Lottie May (Vincent) Leach and Luther Clinton Leach.
Loretta was a Seminole resident for over 44 years. For the past three years she lived in Chandler, Okla. with her daughter.
Loretta was a nurse in California for many years before returning to Oklahoma where she was a homemaker and also helped families with their homes. She also worked at the Blue Bell Plant (Now Wrangler).
She was a member of the Bowlegs Baptist Church.
Loretta retired in 1995.
Loretta loved to crochet, dance, play dominoes, card games like uno and canasta. She loved family gatherings where she got to cook for her family.
Loretta married Paul B. Newman on March 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1982.
Loretta is survived by her three sons and daughter-in-law’s, Terry and Donna Newman of Weatherford, Okla., Roy Newman of Noble, Okla. and Steve and Diana Newman of Holdenville, Okla., her two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Keith Dinwidde of Noble, Okla. and Donna and Billy Buchanan of Chandler, Okla.
She is also survived by; eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Newman, her brother, Don Smith, her sister, Mary Savage, a daughter, Sharon Lewis and a son-in-law, Robert Lewis.
Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will take place at Yeager Cemetery, northeast of Holdenville, Okla.
Her casket bearers will be her grandsons.

Irene Nichols
Irene L. Nichols, former Wewoka resident died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014.
She was born July 25, 1948 in Wetumka, Okla to Elnora Rentie and Rogers Gordon, Jr.
Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at Glory Bound Church Ministries, 10311 N.E. 41st St., Spencer, Okla.
She will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 N. Kelley Ave., in Edmond.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father.
She is survived by her children, Bernetta Nichols, Sabrina Nichols-Dunlap, Aleiya Nichols, Angela Nichols, Zelvin Nichols, Marvin Gordon-Nichols, and Christopher Nichols; sisters, Debris Barkus, Mildred Gordon, (Shirley) Cudjoe Debra, Joann Thompson, Marsha Walker; and brothers, Alvin Jones, and Vernell Thompson.
Kathleen Nicholson
Kathleen Francis Nicholson, former Seminole, Okla. resident died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at Depew, Okla.
She was born Sept. 21, 1941 in Seminole, Okla. to Bert Drumright and Jewel Gertrude (Carriger) Drumright.
After graduating from Seminole High School, she began working as a bookkeeper and clerk in her father’s business.
She married Billy Gene Nicholson in Anadarko, Okla. on Oct. 11, 1957.
She is survived by three sons, Tim Nicholson of Depew, Okla., Ricky Nicholson of Fayetteville, Ark. and Mike Nicholson of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Tina Taylor of Sapulpa, Okla.; one brother, Dale Drumright of Seminole, Okla. and two sisters, Fern Cecil of Seminole, and Dixie Billings of Floresville, Tex.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Jewel Drumright; husband, Billy Nicholson and one grandson, Daniel Nicholson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson Brad Nicholson officiating.
Casket bearers are Larry Taylor, Tim Nicholson, Ricky Nicholson, Mike Nicholson, Dale Drumright, Monte Hallmark and John Nicholson.

Margaret Nicholson
Margaret Ann Nicholson, 67, Bowlegs resident, died Friday, February 14, 2014 in her home. She was born August 9, 1946 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Bessie (Morton) Matthews and Benjamin Franklin Matthews.
She married Philip Nicholson on November 10, 1983 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2005.
She is survived by her four daughters; Johnna Nicholson of Bowlegs, Okla., Julie Riddle of Seminole, Okla., Chelsea Nicholson of Bowlegs, Okla., and Lisa Padgett of Ada, Okla., one brother Kenneth Matthews of Broken Arrow, Okla., two grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Phil Nicholson, a sister, Lessie Matthews, three brothers, Bill, Garland and Wayne Matthews.
Graveside services are planned for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Thrace Cemetery, south of Bowlegs, Oklahoma with Rev. Allen Wood officiating.
Casket bearers will be Wesley Mullen, Michael Mullen, Curtis Mullen, Jason Mullen, Garry Riddle and Josh Coleman. Honorary bearers will be Hoyle Schlueter, James Mullen, James Riddle, Kenneth Dean Matthews and Frank Schlueter.

Mark Nickell
Mark Allen Nickell, 51, of Fort Smith entered into rest Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, in Fort Smith.
He was born June 25, 1963, in Las Vegas, the son of the late Marvin and Lois (Gifford) Nickell.
He was a retired employee of Rheem, a member of The Sanctuary in Fort Smith and loved bowling and sports.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sonja; one daughter, Jennifer Norris and husband Joseph of Fort Smith; one son, William Nickell of Fort Smith; two brothers, David Nickell and wife Lela of Van Buren and Steven Nickell of Rogers; two sisters, Carolyn Chambers and husband John of Wewoka, Okla., and Lisa Bergman and husband Todd of Turpin, Okla.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Norris; 10 nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church in Greenwood with interment at Steep Hill Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. today at Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Nick Bergman, Andrew Bergman, Ryan Neylon, Reed Nickell, Alec Nickell and Britany Thornburg.

Loisetta Nix
Loisetta Nix, 59, longtime Seminole resident, died Feb. 10, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Okla. after a sudden illness.
Loisetta was born Feb. 12, 1954 in Seminole, Okla. to Pauline (Harjo) and Jess Williams.
Loisetta grew up in Seminole and attended Seminole Public Schools; she graduated from Seminole High School.
Loisetta was a huge OU fan.
She worked as the Executive /General Counsel Secretary for the Seminole Nation before going to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1992.
She worked as the court clerk for the CFR Court until two years ago, when she moved to administration for a total of 22 years of service to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
She was a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
She received a citation from the State of Oklahoma on March 30, 1992, for valiant leadership to the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
She married Dennis Nix on Feb. 1, 1985 at the Hitchitte Indian Methodist Church northeast of Seminole.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Nix of Seminole; her son, Jason Cross and his wife Brandy of Seminole; one brother, James Williams of Wewoka, Okla.; two sisters, Nowatha Cope of Eufaula, Okla. and SuMaria Campbell of Greensville, S.C.; along with four grandchildren, Dylan Cross, Haley Presley, Cadey Riddle and Blake Presley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Pauline Williams; stepfather, Buster Deere; a granddaughter, Jade Cross; and three sisters, Maxine Hines, Christine Hinesly and Irene Prust.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole.
