Former Seminole County resident Sybil Ann (Whitley) Gaines died Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Shawnee, at the age of 61.
She was born March 21, 1948 in Chicago, Ill. to John and Lola Mae (Inman) Whitley.
She is survived by her son, John Edward Gaines, of Shawnee; daughters, Kathy Watts, of Shawnee and Bonnie Bates, of Earlsboro; sister, Rosalie Booker, of Midwest City; and seven grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lola Whitley; and husband, Silas Edward Gaines.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Dustin Cemetery, in Dustin, with Johnny Stephens officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Gaines, Howard Bates, Charles Bates, Aaron Watts, Adam Watts and Andrew Watts.
Marvin Galloway
Marvin Gregory Galloway, of Seminole County, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.
He was born on March 26, 1949, in Hartsville, S.C., to parents William Bryan and Gertrude (Fowler) Galloway.
He moved to Seminole County from Las Vegas, Nev. 1-1/2 years ago. He served in the United States Army and his religious affiliation was Church of Christ.
He married Linda (Lundell) Galloway in 1980 in Las Vegas, Nev.
He is survived by wife; stepson, Kevin Farmer; brother, Bryan Galloway; sisters, Susie and Janet Galloway and one grandchild, all of Las Vegas, Nev.
His parents preceded him in death.
There will be a private family memorial service at a latter date.

Hamer Gable
Seminole resident Hamer "Joe" Gamble, age 75, died Friday, June 12, 2009, in Shawnee.
He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Earlsboro, to Arthur Lee and Emma Faye (Floyd) Gamble.
He was raised in Harjo where he attended school. He moved to Portland, Ore., in 1960. He returned to Oklahoma, in 1986, and lived in Shawnee and then in Seminole.
While living in Oregon, he worked for the railroad. After returning to Oklahoma, he worked as an automobile mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Opal Lord, Hazle Wise and Ann Burgin; brothers, Clarence, Lawrence, Ralph, Alfred, Raymond and Bill Gamble; and step-son, Jeff Justeson.
He is survived by his wife, Suzie Justesen, of the home; sons Mike Gamble, of Horntown, Ray Gamble, of Madill, Joe Gamble, of Texas, Lee Gamble, of Madill; step-children, Rebel, Randy, Ladd, Robert and Nick Justesen, and April Ogg; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Beck Moutaw, of Earlsboro, Myrtle Holmes, of California; and brother, Virgil Gamble, of California.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Tecumseh Cemetery with Rev. Chad Brodrick officiating.

Ricardo Garcia
Ricardo Garcia of Sasakwa was born November 28, 1979, in Mexico City, Mexico. He died on September 15, 2009, at the age of 29 years, due to an accident at his workplace. He was employed by Commercial Brick Corporation for over ten years.
He married Briana Postoak on March 19, 2001. Ricardo was a good man who loved his wife and children very much. Whenever anyone needed help he was the first one there to help. He had a kind and gentle heart that drew people to him. He was a decent hard workingman who strived to make a good life for his family and succeeded.
Survivors include his wife, Briana Garcia of the home; children, Caitlin, Caleb, Gabriel, and Andrea Garcia, Sasakwa; his parents, Jose Trinidad Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Martinez, of Puerta Valletta, Mexico; two brothers, Juan Manuel Garcia and Jose Antonio Garcia, of Puerta Vallarta, Mexico; mother-in-law, Corrine Johnson Andrade, of Sasakwa, father-in-law, David Postoak, of Maud, three brother-in-laws, William Johnson, Timothy Johnson, of Seminole, and Jeremy Postoak, of Claremore; sister-in-law, Inesa Johnson, of Oklahoma City, a host of other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be: William Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Jeremy Postoak, and Ricardo Santana Osornio, Francisco Johnson, Guillermo Gutierrez, and Hilario Trejo.

William Gardner
William Harold "Bill" Gardner, went to be with his Lord on Feb. 12, 2009 at the age of 84 years. He was born in Shawnee, on Sept. 2, 1924 to William Ward and Clarice Parker Gardner.
He was a 1943 graduate of Wewoka High School and attended college in Pensacola, Fla. He married Rose Emerson, in Cromwell on July 21, 1951.
Raised in the early Seminole County oil fields, he worked as a rough neck and driller in many western states. During World Ward II he was a rigger in the Kaiser Ship Yard, in Richland, Calif. Bill was retired from Brown and Root Construction Company where he worked as instrument superintendent in the construction of several major power plants.
He helped construct the Savannah River Nuclear Power Plant, the first nuclear plant in the United States, during the early 1950's.
Bill was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, in Seminole.
He was a thirty-second degree Mason, McAlester Lodge of Perfection and Blue Lodge for more than 50 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Bill is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Rose E. Gardner; brother, Rev. Jack Gardner, of Sand Springs; daughter, Elizabeth Johnson, of Edmond; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William E. and Tenise Gardner, of Roland; four grandsons, Eric Johnson and wife Yukiko, of Kyoto, Japan, Travis Johnson and wife Ema, of Carrollton, Texas, William Evan Gardner and Jeffrey Ryan Gardner, both of Roland; great-granddaughter, Winona Rose Johnson, of Kyoto, Japan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Norma Gardner, and Omagene Johnston.
A Memorial Service is scheduled Tuesday Feb. 17, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Seminole First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dave Karges officiating.

Brenda Garrett
Brenda Garrett, born January 21, 1950 passed to a greater life on July 14, 2009.
Preceding her in death are her Parents, Algie and Orel Garrett, and Niece, Sheila Carl Horton.
She is survived by her brother, Doyle Garrett, and wife, Nancy, of Wewoka; sister, Linda Carl, of Electra, Texas; nephew, Shane Carl and wife, Jeannine, of San Antonio, Texas; niece Shawna Carl, of Oklahoma City; niece, Stacey Martinez and husband, Manuel, of San Lorenzo, Calif.; niece, Terri Hemenes and husband, John, of Riverside, Calif.; great nieces, Cheyenne Carl, Jessica Vasquez, Alex Martinez and Samantha Howell; great nephew, Charles Horton and wife, Angela; and great nephews, Eric Martinez and Ryan Howell; great, great nephew, Carson Horton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Finally, she is survived by her closest longtime friends, Lanita Hilgenfeld, of Wewoka and Judy Goodspeed, of Wetumka, as well as a host of other friends, colleagues and team mates.
"Coach" Brenda Garrett was a 1968 Graduate of Wewoka High School and a 1973 Graduate of East Central University in Ada, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She began her career as a teacher and athletics coach at Holdenville Public Schools, followed by many years of teaching and coaching at Wewoka High School. Early in her career, Coach Garrett was involved in the Special Olympics, giving some of her kids the opportunity to compete and come home with medals.
Having been an All-Star Softball and Basketball player, she shared her talents with all of "her kids, " and the numerous students and team members who had the privilege of knowing her throughout her career.
Brenda loved to fish, golf and socialize, and was a member of the Wewoka and Seminole Women’s Golf Associations, as well as a member of the Wewoka Country Club, where she practiced at being an All-Star Golf player.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, August 1, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, in Wewoka. The Church is located at 301 South Mekusukey. There will be no traditional funeral service or viewing per Brenda's wishes. The Family welcomes everyone to attend and honor Brenda - "Coach Garrett".

Joan Gassen
Joan (Roberts) Gassen, age 79, died in Shawnee, Thursday, April 30, 2009.
She was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Holdenville, to Evert Frank Roberts and Georgia Alice (Furlong) Roberts. She was raised and attended school in Holdenville, graduating from Holdenville High School in 1948. She attended one year of Hills Business School, in Oklahoma City. She worked for OG&E in Holdenville and received her ten-year pin.
She was married in 1973 to Paul Mathias Gasser at the Methodist Church Chapel, in El Reno, and moved to Okarche, where she worked for Temptrol, Inc. for sixteen years. She retired early in 1992 and moved to Seminole to care for her mother, then moved to Shawnee, her home since 2003.
She was a member of the Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a past Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and the ‘Working Woman’s Club’.
She is survived by her children, Suzy Ellis, of Shawnee, Kathy Jenkins, of Porter, Texas, and Eric Gassen, of Okmulgee; five grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Jane Hickey, of McAlester.
She is preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Linda Kay Jones.
Graveside services were held at the Holdenville Cemetery on Monday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m., under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Milford Gates
Seminole resident Milford Ernest Gates, age 86, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Seminole.
Gates was born March 4, 1923 in Wilton, Conn., to Rev. Myron James and Mary Edith (Tripp) Gates.
He moved to Warrensburg, NY as a child and spent most of his youth there. He joined the United States Army on Feb. 3, 1943 in Albany, N.Y. and served during World War II. During the war he served in the Asian Theater including New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a cook for the officers in the Hospital Corps while in New Guinea. His twin brother, Private Ervin Gates, was transferred to his outfit where they were re-united. They were two, of the four, brothers serving overseas during World War II at the same time. Milford attained the rank of Tech 5 and served until Honorably discharged on Jan. 31, 1946. He served with the 161st Station Hospital during the war.
Gates spent most of his working career as an industrial painter, painting high capacity compressors. He was a long time employee with Clark Brothers, in Olean, N.Y. Upon retirement, in 1988; he was working for Halliburton, in Olean, NY. He participated in the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his twin brother, Ervin Foster Gates, of Seminole; brother, Lewis Fredrick Gates, of Livermore, Calif.; sisters, Ellouise Cynthia Oglesby, of Pleasantville, Pa. and Rev. Alice Mary Godfrey, of Clarendon, Pa
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Alda Mary; and brothers, James Henry Gates and Edgar Tripp Gates.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Historic Strothers Chapel, inside Maple Grove Cemetery, in Seminole with Rev. Gary Wilburn and Rev. Doyle Long officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery with Military honors.
Robert Gentry
Robert Paul Gentry, age 77, died in Holdenville on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.
He was born Jan. 20, 1932 in Calvin, to Floyd Gentry and Altha (Chronister) Gentry. On Aug. 11, 1952, he married Sandra Bean, in Elco, Nev., and the couple lived and worked in Utah most of their lives. He was an employee of the Department of Transportation in Utah and retired as a surveyor with twenty-three years of service.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy. The family moved to Hughes County in 1980 and joined the Seminole Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Paul Gentry; and brothers, Floyd Gentry, Jr. and Jimmy Mark Gentry.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home; daughters, Deborah Draper, of Midvale, Utah, Geralyn Joyce, Aguirre, of Holdenville, and Cheryl Cagle, of Moore; son, Kevin Gentry, of Taft; sisters, Maryellen Merriman, of Holdenville, Deborah Grizzle, of Holdenville, and Sharon Peters, of Seminole; twenty grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, 2500 John, in Seminole. Burial will follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville.
Hayden George Jr.
Graveside services for Wewoka native Hayden George Jr., are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Dr. Myra Harris will officiate.
George died Monday, July 20, 2009 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 79.
He was born to Eilene and Hayden George Sr., in Wewoka on November 22, 1929.
The fourth child in the family, he lived in Wewoka his first 15 years, then moving to Stuart where he lived for five years.
George married Eliose Carter of Wewoka and the couple moved to Ventura, Calif., where they raised their four sons.
George was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruth of Wewoka, Roxie Davis of Sayre, and Bonita Duff-Shafer of Odessa, Texas; and one infant son, Randy.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Eliose George of Duncan; his present wife, Mary, of the home; his sister, Myra Harris of Seminole; and one brother, Jesse George of Edenburg, Calif.
