These words sum up the life of Helen Austin who went to be with the Lord Jan 3, 2012.
Helen Morgan was born Oct 5, 1912 in Dry Bayou, Missouri to Robert and Pearl Morgan.
In 1920, the family, including two younger sisters and one brother, moved to Oklahoma following the oil boom. They moved several times, ending up in Seminole, where Helen finished high school.
She married Earl Austin shortly after her high school graduation in 1929; it lasted 57 years until his death in 1986.
She brought her children up in the First Baptist Church in Seminole and was actively involved in youth programs. She taught Sunday school until the age of 86.
She loved all activities surrounding food, and her home was always a welcome gathering place for family and friends.
Helen and Earl were active and respected in Seminole, where Earl was a businessman and civic leader, serving on the City Council.
She spent her time nurturing and instilling values in her four children.
Even though she had been unable to attend college, her love of books and learning influenced them to attend Oklahoma A & M/ OSU, and all received college degrees.
Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life.
After living in Miami, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 2000 after the death of husband Earl and son Robert, she moved to Dallas to live with daughter Mary Anne and granddaughter Melissa Miller where she lived until her death at age 99.
She was preceded in death by sisters Nadine and Louise and brother R.J., her husband Earl and son Robert. She is survived by her daughter Nancy and husband Gil Crook of Tehachapi, California, daughter Mary Anne Smiley of Dallas, Texas, and son Earl Austin and wife Patricia of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, Jan 6, 2012 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel at 1001 N. Milt Phillips Ave. Seminole, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
James Babb
James Edward Babb, 66, died in Oklahoma City, Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 after a short illness.
He was born March 7, 1946 in Panama City, Florida to the late Trudell Haskins Babb and Jonah Sidney Babb.
He married Shirley Fountain 1979 in McComb, Mississippi.
He worked for Seminole County as a diesel mechanic, before his retirement.
Preceding him in death are his parents; daughter, Sandy Kesselring and two siblings, Edith and Jonah.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; children, Jamie Bardwell of Cordell, Doug Bardwell of Elk City, Tammy Bardwell of Holdenville, Lonnie Bardwell of Seminole, and Andy Babb of Germany; twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Gertrude Babb Mills, Doris Babb Miss, Cecil Babb, Diane Babb Cantrell and Danny Babb all of Tennessee.
Pall bearers will be Jamie Bardwell, Doug Bardwell, Lonnie Bardwell, and Matthew Seawright.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating and burial at Little Cemetery.
Elizabeth Babcock
Elizabeth "Betty" Babcock of Roseville, IL died Monday, May 28, at the Roseville Rehab and Health Care Center.
She was born May 26, 1928 in Seminole to John L. and Lorean Land Davis.
She married John E. Babcock on June 28, 1958 in Galesburg.
She is survived by her husband, John of Roseville; one daughter, Rebecca Pepper of Macomb and one sister, Glenn Kullman of Lake Havasu, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers in laws.
She was a homemaker.
She worked at Carlberg Printing in Roseville.
She worked as a cook at the grade school and high school at Roseville before retiring as a book keeper at Farmers Grain Co.
She was also a partner in Babcock’s Fruit Farm for many years.
Graveside service were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 31, at the Roseville Township Cemetery. Rev. James Oliver officiated.
Memorials may be made to the Roseville Ambulance and or the Swan Creek Fire Dept.
Corman Memorial Home Roseville is in charge of the arrangements.
Anna Bailey
Anna Jewel Bailey was born on Aug 8, 1914, in Seminole County, and departed this life on Friday, Feb 3, 2012, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 97.
Jewel, the daughter of Henry Shirley and Belle (Ramsey) Hill, was a life-long resident of Seminole County.
She married Homer Woodrow Bailey on April 9, 1932 in Seminole County. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1987.
Jewel was a member of Haney Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Her parents and 10 brothers and sisters also preceded Jewel in death.
Survivors include son, S. J. "Bud" Bailey of Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Robby Sue and Billy Wilson of Pasadena, TX; six Grandchildren; ten Great-grandchildren and 11 Great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with officiating. Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery in Seminole County.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Betty Baker
Betty Bohl Baker was born on Aug. 25, 1954, in Moore and departed this life on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in Prague, at the age of 57.
Betty, the daughter of Pete and Elizabeth (Lane) Bohl, was a long-time resident of Prague.
She graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics.
She married Brian Baker on July 21, 1979 in Houston, Texas.
Betty worked many years for Southwestern Bell and recently retired as a pork producer in Hughes County.
Locally she was active in the Prague United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, PEO, Prague Schools and school sports, to name just a few.
Betty restarted Scouting in Prague in 1993. To date, Troop 485 has produced 11 Eagle Scouts.
Betty's involvement in many areas of the community of Prague will be missed.
Professionally, Betty was frequently seen at the Capitol engaging with legislators, providing comments during committee meetings and telling the story of Oklahoma's growing pork industry.
She served on the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry's CAFO Rules Advisory Committee for 14 years, beginning with its creation in 1998 and serving until her death.
In 2003, Gov. Brad Henry appointed Betty to a five-year term on the Oklahoma Agriculture Enhancement and Diversification Board.
Baker Farms was recognized as a National Environmental Steward Award winner in 1998 by National Hog Farmer Magazine.
Her father and brother, Ronald P. Bohl, preceded Betty in death.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Brian Baker of the home; son, Travis Baker of the home; mother, Elizabeth "Liz" Bohl of Prague and other relatives and many friends.
Memorials may be made in Betty's name to the Boy Scouts of America, 3031 NW 64th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
The Baker family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Prague United Methodist Church in Prague with Rev. Scott Keneda officiating.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
JoAnn Baker
JoAnn Ismel Baker died on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 68.
Services will be Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God church in Wetumka with Reverend Jimmy Lee Thomas Jr. officiating.
Interment will be at the Wisner Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home in Wetumka.
John Baker
John Robert Baker, 67 of Seminole, died Jan 21, 2012 at his residence in Seminole.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan 26, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Marvin Kehl of the First Baptist Church of Seminole will officiate services.
John was born to Chester Baker and Ruby Grisso Baker on March 7, 1944 in Vallejo, California.
He graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1962 and attended college at East Central University in Ada.
He was employed at Tinker Air Force Base for 35 years, retiring in 2001 as a Management Analyst.
From 1976-1980 John served two terms on the Seminole City Council.
He coached Little League Baseball and was vice-president at the state level for the CABA Baseball Association.
He was an Odyssey of the Mind coach for several years, competing nationally on two occasions.
John was a member of the Seminole Elks Lodge where he served as treasurer and coordinated donations from the lodge to the Sulphur Veteran’s Home.
He also served in the National Guard.
John is survived by his wife, Natalie; a son, Jarrod Baker of Shawnee, a daughter Sharon Racine and her husband Dana of Boston, Massachusetts, and two recent born twin grandchildren, Genevieve and Isaac Racine; a sister, Saundra Garrison and her husband, Bob of Seminole, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Wayne Baker.
Casket bearers will be Mark Newman, Jim Lawson, Nick Baker, Brandon Lyle, Matt Daniel and Tommy Darr.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
