Randy Harjo

Randy Harjo, 53, lifelong Maud, Okla. resident died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Okla.

He was born June 19, 1959 in Oklahoma City, Okla. to Jonases "Smokey" Harjo and Mary Ellen (Scott) Harjo.

He attended Maud Public Schools.

He worked for many years at the Wrangler Jean Company in Seminole until he retired in 2010.

He was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma Newcomer Band.

Survivors include one brother, Jonase Leon Harjo of Maud, Okla.; four sisters, Joanna Harjo of Asher, Okla., Jeannette Harjo-Codd of Staten Island, N.Y., Toni Harjo of Maud, Okla., and Tiffany Harjo of Blackwell, Okla.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Lee Harjo; his parents, "Smokey" and Mary Harjo; and three sisters, Rosie Harjo, Kathie Hurst and Rita Phelps.

Visitation will be held at Swearingen Funeral Home Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15.

The body will be taken to the home located at 127 East Monroe in Maud, Okla. at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16 for an evening wake.

The body will be taken back to Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole at 4:00 p.m., Sunday for a wake service at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel that is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Okla. Officiating the services will be Houston Tiger, Frank Brewer, Farin Coody and J.C. Simpson. Interment will follow at the Harjo Family Cemetery.

Casket Bearers will be Nolan "Buddy" Dodson, Tony Berryhill, James Turnbow, Herman Foster, Ronnie Powell and Keelan Paschal.

Honorary bearers will be Lindsay Bondoni, Ringo Harjo, Albert Curley, Sonny Turnbow, David Harris, George Harjo and Paul Williams.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.

Richard Harjo

Richard Harjo, 86, longtime area resident died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

He was born Nov. 13, 1926 in Konawa, Okla. to Velma (Cosar) Harjo and Sundy Harjo.

On June 10, 1949 he married Elizabeth Deer in Seminole, Okla.

He was the plant manager for Quality Drum Company in Oklahoma City until his retirement.

He was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma (Eufaula Band).

Survivors include three sons, Sandy Harjo of Oklahoma City, Okla., Richard Harjo of Oklahoma City, Okla., Bobby Harjo of Shiprock, N.M.; two step-sons, Bill Tiger of Noble, Okla., Charles Deer of Sherman, Tex.; five daughters, Liz Wesley of Shawnee, Okla., Linda Gonzalez of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Birdie Martinez of Oklahoma City, Okla., Grace Trevizo of Oklahoma City, Okla., Brenda Harjo of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Luther Harjo of Tulsa, Okla., Raymond Harjo of Mounds, Okla.; one sister, Naomi Jacobs of Earlsboro, Okla.; 33 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by his parents, Sundy and Velma (Cosar) Harjo; his wife, Elizabeth (Deer) Harjo; one daughter, Bonnie McClure; two sisters, Abby Harjo and Louisa Billie; four grandchildren, Christian Lusty, Kutcha Harjo, Joseph Harjo and Kimberly Clark; and by one great-granddaughter, Ava Harjo.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Okla. Rev. Ernest Best will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Snake Creek Indian Baptist Church Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Robert Johnson, Tyler Hockenberry, Jeremy Harjo, Michael Harjo, Josh Lowing and Raymond Lewis.

Honorary bearers will be Richard "Jiggs" Lusty Jr., Wesley Romirez, Anthony Hawkins and Martine Carreon.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Richard Harjo

Richard Bon Harjo, went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2013 at his residence in Sasakwa, Okla. at the age of 81 years.

He was born April 1, 1932 to the late Babe Harjo and Josie Stout Harjo.

He worked for SE Incorporated Factory in Wewoka for many years.

His passion was sports, he was an avid Thunder and OU fan, along with watching wrestling, spending time with his family at cookouts and gospel singing, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of Spring Baptist Church.

Preceding Richard in death are his parents; brother, Leslie Harjo; sisters, Elizabeth Camp, Madaline Harrison and Patsy Wolf.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Harjo of the home; children, Sharon Johnson of Holdenville, Richard Bon Harjo Jr. of Yukon, Geraldine Harjo and husband Gene of Shawnee, Gerald Harjo and wife, Elaine of Latta, Okla., Ralphalita McIntosh and fiance, Miguel Maldonaldo of Oklahoma City, and Sonya Harjo of Shawnee, Okla.; fifteen grandchildren and numerous adopted grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Clifford Barnett and wife, Sue of Seminole, Winfred Harjo of Ada, Betty McGillbert and husband Wallace of Shiprock, N.M., Shirley Clayton, Anita Lyons, and Janie Newby all of Ada, Okla., numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Taylor, Vernon Harjo, Lloyd Harjo, Randy Turner, Gene Harjo, and Miguel Maldonaldo.

Honorary bearers will be Brent Bon Harjo, Brandon Harjo, Jeremy McIntosh, Darrien McIntosh, Jared McIntosh, and J.B. McIntosh.

Funeral services were scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 Spring Baptist Church, with Bro. Faron Coody, Rev. Kellos Walker and Brother Frank Moppin officiated and burial followed at Spring Church Cemetery.

Richy Harjo

Richy Lee Harjo, age 46 and a resident of Wewoka, Okla., passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at his home in Wewoka.

A wake service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9th at High Springs Baptist Church of Konawa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10th at the church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Jimsey Harjo and Houston Tiger will officiate.

Pallbearers are Winfred Harjo, Cory Gipson, Brandon Harjo, Johnnie Harjo, Bryant Panoske, and Andy Panoske.

Honorary pallbearers are Ronald Gipson, Francisco Porrus, Daryl Chisolm, Jonathon Walker, Micah Panoske, and Elijah Panoske.

He was born July 16, 1966 in Wewoka, Okla. to Almond James Harjo and Joanna Rose (Wolf) Harjo.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Panoske of the home; step-father, John Harjo of Ada, Okla.; one aunt ; two brothers, James Harjo of Tonkawa, Okla. and Jeremy "Bear" Harjo of Ada, Okla.; three sisters, Jimmie Lou and Johnnie Harjo of Tonkawa, Okla., Tammy Harjo and Anthony Gipson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Juanita and Ronald Gipson of Sasakwa, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Almond and Joanna Harjo; one sister, Charolette Harjo; and nieces, Beth Ann Harjo and Tisha Gipson.

Rosie Harjo

Rosie Lee (Cosar) Harjo, 69, resident of Konawa, Okla., died Monday, June 17 at her home.

A Wake service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19 at Swearingen Home Chapel in Konawa.

A second wake service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20th at High Springs Baptist Church of Konawa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at the Church. Rev. Jimsey Harjo and Rev. Dorsey Nero will officiate.

Pallbearers are Keith Billie, Rick Pemberton, R.D. Coody, Travis Hunter, David Farmer, and Kevin Chapman.

Burial will follow at the Cosar Family Cemetery located North of the Church.

Honorary Pallbearers are Keith Billie, Skip Foster, Herman Foster, Richard Bounds, Dennis Billie, and Keith Billie, II.

She was born Feb. 10, 1944 in Talihina, Okla. to Bunnie Cosar and Lizzie (Factor) Cosar.

She married Donald Harjo who preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Keith Billie of Konawa, Okla.; five daughters, Becky Pemberton of Konawa, Wanda Coody also of Konawa, Tonya Chapman of Konawa, Regina Chase The Bear of Ponca City, Okla., and Tisha Farmer of Allen, Okla.; one brother, Toby Cosar of Collinsville, Okla.; one sister, Francis Osborne of Konawa; 18 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bunnie and Lizzie Cosar; her husband, Donald Harjo; one daughter; two sisters and one brother.

Joyce Harper

Joyce L. (Gilbert) Harper, 79, former resident of Konawa, Okla. died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate.

Pallbearers are Gary Harper, John Gilbert, Jr., Adam Harper, Logan Harper, Gary Saunders, and Cade Harper.

She was born Sept. 2, 1933 in Siloam Springs, Ark. to Orville Gilbert and Opal (Brown) Gilbert.

She graduated from high school in Shawnee and married Andrew Harper in 1951.

She worked as a wiring technician for Western Electric and also made equipment for Southwestern Bell.

She is survived by one son, Gary Harper of Choctaw, Okla.; one brother, John Gilbert of Powderly, Tex.; two sisters, Mildred Pratt of Paris, Tex. and Doris Major of Dallas, Tex.; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Opal Gilbert; her husband, Andrew Harper; and one son, Tony Harper.

Harold Harris

Sept. 30, 1926 – Aug. 2, 2013

Harold Clifton Harris, 86, was born Sept. 30, 1926 in Konawa, Okla. to Jack Vince and Mary Alice (Spencer) Harris.

He attended school in Konawa and New Lima.

In 1944, he married Juanita Beavers in Seminole.

Shortly after their marriage, he joined the US Navy and was sent to the Phillipines serving on Leyte and Samar.

At the end of WWII, he returned to Honolulu aboard the USS Gilliam, which was later sunk at Eniwitok while testing the atomic bomb.

He returned to Seminole in 1946 working at Bovaird Supply. He worked for Sinclair Oil as a roustabout, pulling unit operator, and gang pusher until 1967. He was then promoted and transferred to Crooks Gap, Wyoming in 1967, working as an assistant foreman.

In 1970, he was moved to another field, enlarging his territory, and in 1971 he was promoted to Production Foreman and transferred to Gillette, Wyo.

In January of 1974, he was promoted to District Superintendent for western Wyoming and southern Montana, and moved to Hamilton Dome Field near Thermopolis, Wyo.

While in Wyoming, Harold served on the Bureau of Land Management Board. In 1978 he was Vice-Chairman of the South Big Horn Basin API Chapter. In 1979, he served as Chairman.

After retirement, he returned to Seminole. He was a life-time member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, and a Charter Member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.

Harold loved playing golf, fishing, and hunting. During the years he lived in Wyoming, he was fortunate enough to harvest several deer, elk, and a bull moose.

Harold passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at Oklahoma City, Okla.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Harris; his wife of almost 70 years, Juanita Harris; and son-in-law, John Baker.

He is survived by a daughter, Natalie Baker of Seminole; granddaughter, Sharon Racine and husband, Dana of Massachusetts; grandson, Jarrod Baker of Shawnee; and two great-grandchildren, Genevieve Racine and Isaac Racine of Massachusetts.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 10:30 am in the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Marvin Kehl. Burial with military honors will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
