Mary Lee

Mary Teresa (Hollingsworth) Lee, formerly of Broken Arrow, Okla., born Sept. 12, 1947 and died Sunday June 30, 2013.

Teresa received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Tulsa University in 1996. A member of the NSPE and IEEE professional organizations, Teresa worked in her field from 1996 to 2013.

Teresa was a member of the Lord’s Community Church in Seminole, Okla.

Her son, William James Lee III; her brothers, Dan, Tim, Michael and Steve Hollingsworth, and her sister, Philomena Hollingsworth, survive her.

Teresa was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Althouse and her parents, James and Dorothy Hollingsworth, of Shawnee, Okla.

For service information please contact the Lord’s Community Church at 501 N. 5th in Seminole, Okla.

Nora Lefthand

Nora Bear Lefthand, 72, lifelong Seminole resident died Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Seminole, Okla.

Nora was born May 10, 1940 in Seminole to Porter and Venis (Edward) Bear.

Nora grew up in the Little community and attended and graduated from Prairie Valley High School west of Little.

She was a longtime cook at the former Seminole Municipal Hospital and was a bi-lingual teacher at Prairie Valley School.

Nora loved watching Thunder basketball and Oklahoma State University football, cooking and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Nora is survived by two sons, Michael Lance Bear and Sean L. Lefthand, both of Seminole, Okla.; two brothers, Ron Bear of Seminole, Okla. and Porter Bear, Jr. of Seminole, Okla.; a sister, Dora Haney of Seminole, Okla.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Bear, Sheena Bear, Eric Lefthand, Dustin Lefthand, Zachary Lefthand, Kayton Lefthand, Carmyn Lefthand, Ayden Bear and Joe Duello.

Wake services were held Monday evening, April 1, 2013 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Lemaster

Thomas R. "Tom" Lemaster, 77, Wetumka resident died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at the veteran’s Hospital in Muskogee, Okla.

He was born July 1, 1935 in Omena, Mich. to parents Daniel Tillman Lemaster and Regina (Kalchick) Lemaster.

In 1955, he entered into service in the United States Army where he earned the good conduct medal.

On Oct. 27, 1959 he married Virginia "Sue" Kean in Midwest City, Okla.

The couple lived in several different areas throughout the years including Grand Junction, Colorado; Seminole County, Oklahoma where they lived for ten years, and Hughes County, Oklahoma where they lived for twenty years.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator while in Grand Junction, Colorado and later as a roughneck in the oilfields and then a truck driver for Donco Trucking out of Oklahoma City, Okla. from which he retired in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Lemaster of the home in Wetumka; one son, John W. Lemaster of Wetumka; one daughter, Dora Sue "Susie" (Lemaster) Sawyer of Seminole; three brothers, John W. Lemaster of Amarillo, Tex., James Lemaster of Grove, Okla., Dan Lemaster of Mountain Home, Ind.; three sisters, Bertha Oscar of Suttons Bay, Mich., Esther Walters of Suttons Bay, Mich., Rose Badgly of Oolitic, Ind.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Irene and Ethel; one infant sister and one infant brother.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Rev. Mitch Williams officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Bobby Lester

Bobby Gene Lester, 73, a resident of Asher, Okla. and a former resident of Seminole County, died Sunday, July 14, 2013 at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for noon Friday, July 19 at the First Baptist Church in Asher, Okla. under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Pallbearers are Glen Lester, Grady Lester, William Whitney, Cody Whitney, Gary Allen, and Mason Allen.

Cremation will follow after the service.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, July 17, and the family will greet visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, July 18 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

He was born June 24, 1940 in Ringling, Okla. to Arthur Lewis Lester and Lois Marie (Blackwell) Lester.

He was a military veteran of the Army.

He is survived by four sons, Glen Lester of Meeker, Okla., Grady Lester of Stillwater, Okla., William Joseph Whitney of Bray, Okla., and Cody Whitney of Sayre, Okla.; one daughter, Amy Whitney of Stephenville, Tex.; one sister, Bonnie Olive of Asher; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lois Lester and one brother, Wayne Lester.

Nova Lester

Nova J. (Linduff) Lester, 85, of Tecumseh, Okla, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 in Shawnee.

She was born Jan. 10, 1928 to Lincoln and Ima (Allen) Linduff in Tecumseh, Okla.

Nova was raised in Tecumseh and attended Tecumseh Public Schools. She graduated with the class of 1945 from Tecumseh High School.

She married Wilbur Lester on Oct. 31, 1948 in Tecumseh, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2008.

Following marriage they lived in Sulphur, Okla. and Borger, Tex. before moving back to Tecumseh where they have since resided.

Nova worked at Tecumseh Sunset Estates in the cafeteria before going to work at Tinker AFB as a Secretary in the Tools Department retiring after 20 years.

She was a member of the Tecumseh High School Alumni Association.

Nova was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh and was a Sunday School Teacher in the nursery.

She was a Campfire Leader for several years during the time her daughter, Debbie was in Campfire.

She loved gardening, cooking, and going to her granddaughter’s school and sports activities. Her grandchildren were the focal point of her life.

Nova was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Lester; and her parents, Lincoln and Ima (Allen) Linduff.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and David Lyon of Seminole; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Karen Lester of Ft. Worth, Tex.; brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Patty Lester, of Snyder, Tex.; three grandchildren, Trisha and Matt Weber of Ada, Traci and Nick Gray of Denver, Colo. and Allison and Ricardo Noriega of Oklahoma City; four great grandchildren, Cody Weber, Brendon Weber, Zara Gray and Austin Gray; and numerous extended family and many friends.

Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 and continue through service time.

The family will gather from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 to meet with friends at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Tecumseh First Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Peak officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

The family has designated Children’s Hospital, Oklahoma City, Okla. or the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh, Okla. as appropriate for memorials.

William Lewellen

William Thomas Lewellen, 61, of Mustang died on Dec. 14, 2012.

He graduated from seminary in 1988 with his Bachelor’s degree in ministry.

A resident of Mustang since 2005, he worked at the Oklahoma City Department of Public Safety.

He also worked part-time for Bass Pro of OKC in the Hunting Department until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; three daughters, Amanda Walker, Leslie Fillmore, Leah Waddle all who live in the OKC area; his mother, Yvonne Jack of Harrah, Okla.; siblings, Otis Lewellen of New Mexico, Dennis Lewellen of Harrah and Kenneth Jack of Edmond, Minnie Herdison of Ft. Smith, Vanessa Norman of San Antonio, Texas and Jill Sharp of Oklahoma City; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were held at the Southwest Baptist Church of Oklahoma City and interment was in Little Cemetery, Little, Okla.

Ralph Lewis

Funeral services for Ralph Ray Lewis, 53, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with Rhonda Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

A time of visitation and support for the family will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Viewing will begin this morning.

The son of the late Ralph and Vala Dee Martin Lewis, he was born Nov. 4, 1959, in Oklahoma City, and passed away surrounded by his loved ones Tuesday evening in Ardmore.

He and Susan Woolsey were married Nov. 21, 1998, in Ardmore.

He spent his early childhood as a resident of Seminole, Okla. He had been a resident of Ardmore for the last several years and had worked as a plat former at Valero Refinery.

He was a member of The Lord's Church.

Ralph is survived by his daughter, Kristie Bell and her husband, Jeff of Dallas; son, Jason Parham also of Dallas; granddaughter, Taylor Bell; brothers, Joe Lewis and wife, Carolyn of Ozark, Ark., Buddy Lewis and wife, Glenda of Seminole, Okla., and Terry Lewis and wife, Stephanie of Ardmore; and sisters, Johnnie Bradley of Ardmore, Kaye Croce and husband, Onis of Seminole, and Karie Kindt and husband, Kevin of Ardmore.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Buck and Bill Lewis.

Serving as bearers will be Kevin Kindt, Jeremiah Kindt, Carl Loving, Russell Douthit, Andrew Wood and Gary Posey.

Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.

Joan Ligon

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Joan Roberts Ligon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Wewoka.

Mrs. Ligon passed away at Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City on June 14, 2013 at the age of 96 years following a brief illness.

Chaplin Bill Hesse of Canterbury United Methodist Church Oklahoma City will officiate and Reverend Susan Rice of First United Methodist Church Wewoka will assist.

Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.

Mrs. Ligon was bon on July 28, 1916 in EI Reno, Okla. to Richard Joel Roberts and Eva Stone Roberts.

She graduated from Wewoka High School in 1932.

She attended William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. in 1936.

She received her Teacher's certification from East Central State College in Ada, Okla. in 1938, she received a Masters Degree in History from the University of Oklahoma.

She married H.M. Ligon on June 12, 1940 in Wewoka and they made their home there.

She taught English and literature in junior and senior high school throughout her teaching career.

During her childhood in Wewoka, she was a member of the First Baptist Church; and later as an adult she was an active member of the First Methodist Church. Mrs. Ligon taught Sunday school at the Methodist Church and was an adult sponsor for the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She also served as a member of the Board of Trustees at the First Methodist Church.

Other lifetime achievements and associations during the years included being an officer of the American Association of University Women on several occasions. She recently received a SO-year service pin for her service.

Mrs. Ligon was a founding member of the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society in 1973 and was a member of its Board of Directors.

She belonged to the Hyacinth Unit of the Wewoka Garden Club; the Oklahoma Heritage Association; Town Hall, Oklahoma City; P.E.O.; the American Association of University Women; and the Oklahoma Historical Society, Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Ligon was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers and her husband of 31 years, H. M. Ligon.

She is survived by two children, Duke R. Ligon (his wife Linda), Oklahoma City; and Nan Holt (her husband, Charles) Denver, Colo., survive her.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren include: Christian R. Ligon, New York; Jud Holt, Oakland, Calif., Rachel Olson, Denver, Colo. and Emily Holt, Sandy, Utah; great grandchildren-Owen and Wrenn Holt, Emmett and Amber Olson, Miles and Adelyn Miller.

Other surviving members of her immediate family are: Mary and Wendell Knox, Oklahoma City; Lovell and Bud Wingate Arlington, Tex.; Corrine Roberts, Dallas; Arlington, Tex.: and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special friend of continually love and support Lisa Duncan.

Pallbearers will be Jud Holt, Christian Ligon, Andy Roberts, Phil Roberts, Ritchie Roberts, Steve Knox, David Knox, and Charlie Holt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tipton J. Burch, John Smart, Richard Elwanger, Fred Smith, Rudy Hargrave, John Norman, Richard Norman, and George Butner.

Following the interment a reception will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Seminole Nations Museums in Joan's honor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seminole Nation Museum.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
