Shannon Slagle
5/28/1943 – 6/8/2013
On June 8, 2013 a sunbeam from this world vanished, for at 2:00 p.m. on that Saturday afternoon Shannon Slagle departed this world.
Her genuine sincerity, infectious personality and wonderful smile are lost to this earth forever.
Shannon was born in Paul’s Valley, Okla. on May 28, 1943; she attended grade and high school in several communities across Oklahoma and Texas and completed college course work at the University of Oklahoma.
Shannon was a Certified Medical Office Manager as well as a Certified Dental Assistant.
She worked in the office of Dr. William Schmidt of Oklahoma City for several years as well as the office of Dr. Dan Patrick of Memphis Tennessee.
For twenty-three years she served with dignity and diligence as first lady of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry. In that capacity she served as hostess for alumni, faculty, staff and student social gatherings and represented the University at receptions and meetings through-out the South.
She was a gourmet cook and has many original recipes published in several cook books in the MidSouth.
Shannon also loved her canine companions. She always had from one to seven small canine members of the family around, with Joel Joseph Kennedy Slagle passing away at the age of seventeen years only a few weeks prior to her own departure from this earth. Now only Murphy Brown, a Yorkshire terrier, remains.
While Shannon’s death will remain as a major loss to her family and friends there is no doubt the pathways of Heaven will be brighter because of her presence.
Her Faith was very personal and it was also unfaltering.
God was with her in her final hours as her ongoing excruciating pain of illness was completely transformed to rest and tranquility.
In those final moments of Shannon’s earth bound life God most assuredly whispered quietly in her ear, "well done my good and faithful servant", Shannon, "well done".
Shannon is survived by a large family including Dr. William F. Slagle of the residence; Jan Elaine Slagle; Dr. Sara Brown; Doyle and Doris Bartgis and family; Dr. Sandy and John Windsor and family; Veda Belle Slagle Nowlin; Dr. William and Dawn Nowlin and family; L.B and Cam Slagle; Dr. Steve Slagle and Jane Spaeth; Cecil and Zan Slagle Caperton; Jim Slagle and Janice Wollier; Dr. Gene and Ann Slagle; Dr. Scott and Sally Slagle and family; Jimmy and Linda Slagle Shelley; Ron and Ann Slagle Brewer and family; and Al and Barbara Slagle Kiedaisch.
In addition Shannon is survived by multiple friends who are current or former members of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center family, alumni of the University and members of the Auxiliary to the Memphis Dental Society as well as friends and neighbors in our wonderful community of Seminole.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Shannon will be held in the Chapel of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole Okla. at 3:00 p.m. Friday June 14, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Shannon’s memory to the Shannon Slagle student scholarship in care of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, 875 Union Avenue, Memphis TN, 38163 or to a charity of their choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, Okla.

He always loved a good laugh; he loved to fish and was one of the biggest OSU fans you would ever meet teasing, Harold Swarb and Albert Flesher about how OU didn’t stand a chance against his Pokes.
He also loved family dinners and spending time with his family whom he loved dearly.
Dewey John leaves to remember his upbeat nature and strong will to their only daughter, Topsey and son-in-law, Albert Flesher of Maud, Okla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Peg Smith of Minnesota; two grandchildren, John Flesher and his wife Jamie Flesher, and Kerry (Flesher) Bruce and her companion Tommy Little all of Maud; eight great-grandchildren, Ginger Flesher, Brandi Mullican, Mac Mullican and his wife Nicole, John Dee Flesher, Blake Bruce, Raven Bruce, Hunter Bruce and Haylee Jo Flesher; six great great-grandchildren, Kayson and Ashton Mullican, Kye Bradely, Christian, Nicholas and Delilah; a very special friend, Phyllis Splawn of Prague, Okla.; and a host of other family and dear friends.
