Anisha Rochella Stephens was born Jan. 8, 1981 to Claud and Anita Kay (Newsom) Stephens Jr.
She attended Nobletown School from Kindergarten to the 5th grade. She then attended Butner School from the 6th grade and graduated in 1999.
Every summer she attended Upward Bound from her freshman to senior year.
She was a member of the National Honor Society. She topped the state’s Class A in scoring with 21.8 points per game and rebounding with 14.8 per contest.
Anisha’s honors include: Co-MVP of the East Central Conference, Oklahoma High School Coaches Association All-Region Team and the All-State Team. She led Butner to the District Runner-up slot in 1998-99 and the championship at the Glencoe Invitational. She led the state in rebounding in 1997-98, that year Butner won the District and Regional championships and Area Finalists.
Anisha was Homecoming Queen and was also named to the All-Star East Basketball Team. She was given the honor of All State her senior year for Basketball.
With her outstanding basketball skills and dedication, Anisha was given a full scholarship to play basketball with the Seminole Lady Belles.
She was determined to finish her college studies, so in 2008 she graduated from Vatterott College with a degree of Associates of Occupational Studies in Medical Assistant Technology.
Anisha struggled with her illness during this time but fought hard to accomplish the rewarding goal that she had set for herself.
Anisha’s life was filled with love; she loved to have fun.
She was the second child and first daughter of four children.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Anisha loved to share her cooking with everyone to show what new creative recipe she had created.
She enjoyed fishing, traveling, and being outdoors. Anisha loved to sing and dance.
She spent many hours devoting herself to reading scriptures of the Bible and sharing them with others to help uplift them. She shared with everyone daily inspirational messages to bring spiritual guidance into everyone’s life. Anisha was in love with the Lord and had devoted herself to serving Him.
Anisha was a devoted, loyal, and faithful member of the Ethiopian Reformed Coptic Church of Christ. She held the position of the Assistant Conductress of Sacred Women Association and was the Junior Class Teacher.
On June 1, 2013 the Lord called Anisha home.
Anisha is preceded in death by her daughter, Adacia Ania Stephens; great-grandmother, Anna Modia (Worhtam) Burkhalter; great-grandmother, Parzola (Booker) Newsom-Christopher; grandfather, Carne Calmes Newsom; grandmother, Dora Mae (Gordon) Stephens; and grandfather, Claud Stephens Sr.
Anisha, a servant of God, dedicated to her family, church, and friends leaves to cherish her memory a son, DeOnte’ Zechariah Mason of the home; her parents, Claud and Anita Stephens Jr. of Wewoka (Nobletown), Okla.; one brother Claud III and wife Kimberly Stephens of Wewoka (Nobletown), Okla.; two sisters, Christal and husband Sean Akadiri of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Angela Stephens of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandmother, Roberta Q. Cain, Okemah, Okla.
She was an auntie to her niece Kimbrie R. Strayhorn and nephews Shem’mario K. Stephens, Shemmei C. Stephens, Shallomar Z. Stephens and Christian A. Akadiri; and a host of auntie, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
Anisha to all of us was a loving daughter, grand-daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, niece, friend, and most of all a loving mother to DeOnte’ and will hold this memory in our hearts forever.
Anisha continues to give following her death, by being an organ donor through Life Share Oklahoma.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Machpelah Cemetery Ethiopian Reform Coptic Church of Christ located on Nobletown Road near Wewoka, Okla. General Bishop Charley J. Gilbert, Jr. will officiate the service.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.
Leo Stephens
Leo James Stephens, 91, longtime Seminole resident died Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Seminole.
Leo was born Nov. 1, 1921 in Egypt, Okla. to Charles James and Nannie Elizabeth (Myers) Stephens.
Leo moved to Seminole in 1954 from Calif.
Leo was a member of the Bowlegs First Baptist Church and had retired from working in the Seminole oilfields in 1987; his last employment was with Morgan’s Well Service.
Leo’s passion was poetry and music. He had his own personal music ministry to area nursing homes. He also won many awards for his poems.
He married Marie Courtney on June 13, 1961 in Hugo, Okla.
His wife Marie Stephens of Seminole, Okla.; his daughters Sharon Stephens of Wetumka, Okla., Cynthia Mulkey of Wellston, Okla., Debbie Anson and Linda Yancey of Seminole, Okla.; a son Ron Lashley of Carrollton, Tex.; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren as well as a host of family and friends survive him.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Lee Stephens; two sisters, Thelma Marie Stephens and Connie Faye Le Grande; three sons, Larry James Stephens, Johnny Lashley and Roger Lashley and one daughter, Darlene Collums.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Little Chapel at Little Cemetery with Rev. Andy Quinten of the Bowlegs First Baptist Church officiating.
Casket bearers will be his grandsons; Robby Collums, Danny Collums, Donny Collums, Brad Lashley, Chad Lashley, Rodney Lashley.
Funeral Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Safarona Stevens
Safarona Ruth (Taylor) Stevens, age 71 and a resident of Konawa, Okla. died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at Valley View Hospital in Ada.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Rev. Larry Chesser will officiate.
Pallbearers are Triver Heard, Christopher Heard, Matthew Edwards, and Dana Meadows.
Honorary Pallbearer is Kenneth Warrior.
Visitation will be on Wednesday and Thursday.
She was born in Konawa on March 15, 1941 to Charley Taylor and Reva (McClain) Taylor.
She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse.
She is survived by one brother, Charley H. Taylor of Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Reva Taylor; one son, Randy Stevens; and two brothers, Gerald and Jesse Taylor.
Clifton Stewart
Clifton Michael Stewart died in Shawnee, Okla. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at the age of 72.
He was born in Seminole, Okla. on Sept. 11, 1941, to Fred Stewart and Dorothy (Coonce) Stewart.
He attended schools in Seminole, and was a 1959 graduate of Seminole High School.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and then returned to Seminole, where he worked as a taxi driver and in the oil field, until he became disabled from an oilfield injury.
He married Louise Penner on May 3, 1985, in Gainesville, Tex.
They lived four years in Wetumka and for a while in Norman and Purcell, then moved back to Seminole, where they’ve made their home for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dorothy Stewart; and one daughter, Teresa Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Louise, of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Green, of McAlester, and two sons, Michael Stewart of Paris, Tex. and Nathan Stewart of Tulsa; one stepson, Larry Penner of Bowlegs, and one stepdaughter, Jeanice Clark of Purcell; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn Self of Seminole.
No formal services are currently planned.
Timothy Stewart
Timothy Trent Stewart was born Oct.13, 1966, in Woodward, Okla. and died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Prague Okla., at the age of 46.
He attended Liberty Academy in Shawnee and was a truck driver.
He married Jeannie Evans on Aug. 11, 2008, in Atoka County.
His grandparents and one son preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Stewart of the home; mother, Barbara Price-Haws; father and step-mother, Delmer and Deborah Stewart; sons, Justin Abbott of Pink, Kody Stewart of Seminole County, Trenton Jacob Stewart of Seminole, Doug Buss of Shawnee, Lariat Trent Stewart of Seminole; daughter, Brandi Rainey of Shawnee; brothers, Jay Stewart of Seminole County, Jeff Stewart of Shawnee, step-brothers, Clint Tooley of Wayne, Clay Tooley of Norman; and 11 grandchildren.
The Stewart family will receive friends on Monday, April 15, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee with Rev. Bill Matthews and Rev. Phil Thompson officiating.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Frank Streater
Memorial services for Frank Streater, 90, of Wewoka, Okla. will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka with Aaron Alsbrook officiating.
Mr. Streater died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in Norman, Okla.
Frank was born on Aug. 28, 1922 to Arthur Franklin and Golden Edith (Brown) Streater in Wewoka, Okla.
He was married to Maureen Ott on Oct. 11, 1942 in Wewoka, Okla. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2012.
Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy before he graduated and later received his diploma at a special ceremony at Wewoka High School in 2000.
Mr. Streater was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served from 1942 until 1945. He was a Boatswain Mate, second-class, aboard the USSAPL 28 stationed in the South Pacific during WWII.
Frank owned and operated Streater Oil Company for several years.
He also was a master carpenter, fisherman, hunter, gardener, farmer, and outdoor cook.
He had a deep passion for his land that has been in family over 100 years.
Frank was a member of the Wewoka Church of Christ, Lion’s Club, Camp Fire Girls’ Parent Association, Wewoka Tiger’s Quarterback Club, Wewoka Sportsman’s Club, and a participant in Wewoka’s 100th Centennial Anniversary Celebration.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mamie Tilley, Nell Streater, Bess Streater Sue Davis, Dorothy Smith, Maxine Scribner, and Lois Streater; and brothers, Ed Streater, and Leo Streater.
Survivors include his wife, Maureen of the home; two daughters, Sharyn and husband, Art of Wewoka; and Linda and husband, Dan of Seminole. Grandchildren include Kristi Malinga, of Oklahoma City, Kyle Garner, and wife, Heather of Southlake, TX, Kerri Houghton, and husband, Chase of Cache, Logan Curtis, and husband, Troy of Norman, and Lincoln Dearing, of Seminole.
Frank is also survived by great- grandchildren, Jaxon, Jace, and Ellison Garner of Southlake, Tex.; Piper, Dallas, and Dru Houghton of Cache, and Blake Curtis of Norman.
Mr. Streater is also survived by sister, Delores Ann Anderson and husband Les, of Albuquerque, N.M. and brother, Chester Streater of Wewoka.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Pallbearers are grandsons Kyle Garner, Lincoln Dearing, Troy Curtis, Chase Houghton, Jaxon Garner, and Jace Garner.
Memorial donations can be made to the Seminole Nation Museum or the Wewoka Public Library.
Family and Friends gathering and visitation will be held at the Stout Chapel, Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.
