Norma Welch, life long Seminole county resident died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at her home in Bowlegs, Okla. at the age of 78.
She was born March 7, 1935 in Stratford, Okla. to William Hilton and Iva (Meeks) Hilton.
She was a homemaker.
She married Troy Welch, Feb. 6, 1955 in Seminole.
She is survived by three sons, Dewayne Welch of Seminole, Danny Welch of North Carolina and Doug Welch of Seminole; three daughters, Debbie Cecil of Bowlegs, Dennie Phillips of Maud and Dianne Welch of Bowlegs; two brothers, Mike Hilton of Seminole and Tom Hilton of Texas; three sisters, Betty Melloy of Wilson, Okla., Linda Pierce of Maud and Darlene Selfridge of Seminole; 18 grandchildren and over 30 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Iva Hilton; husband, Troy Welch; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at First Assembly of God Church of Bowlegs with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens of Seminole.
Serving as Casket bearers are Steve Welch, Billy Cecil, Joe Doyle, Matthew Welch, Tim Gentry and Gene Welch.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Ruth White
Ruth Edwards White was born June 17, 1916, in Seminole, Okla. to Mary and J.W. (Boney) Edwards.
After graduation from Seminole High School, Ruth attended college at Oklahoma State University where she was a member of the ZTA sorority.
Ruth also studied fashion design in New York City.
She was a life long member of the Church of Christ in Seminole.
Ruth married Leon Moore White in 1939.
Ruth and Leon owned and operated Home Lumber Company in Seminole for nearly 50 years. When they retired from the business community, they sold Home Lumber to brother, Buford White of Shawnee.
Ruth and Leon have two daughters, Linda White Wade of Fort Worth, Tex., and Karen White Brownlee of New York City.
In 1996, Ruth and Leon moved from Seminole to Fort Worth, Tex., to be closer to daughter, Linda and her husband, Joe Wade. Also in Fort Worth are granddaughters, Wendy Wade and Jolynn Wade Behringer and great grandsons Wade, age 15 and JAKE, age 10. Their daughter Karen and her husband, Dr. Michael Brownlee make frequent visits to Texas.
Leon White died in 2004 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Ruth passed away at the age of 96 and will be laid to rest next to Leon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Ruth White
Family will receive friends and family on Friday evening, Jan. 18th, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Tom White
Tom White, 82, of Wewoka passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 in Midwest City.
He was born Oct. 16, 1930 to Daniel and Mary (Ray) White in Tribbey, Okla.
Tom was raised in the Skagg City and Tecumseh areas.
He married Mavery (Mae) Lou Kastner the mother of his son, and then later married Lloyd "Dean" Smith and she preceded him in death.
Tom proudly served his country as Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, he moved back to Tecumseh and later moved to Wolf where he worked as a rancher.
After that, Tom lived near Bowlegs before moving to Seminole where he lived until moving to Wewoka in 2007 until his death.
Tom owned and operated White’s Mobil Service in Shawnee and later worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Seminole County until his retirement.
He was a survivor of the Dust Bowl and played Minor League Baseball in Tulsa.
Tom was a collector of antiques and loved NASCAR, Football and Baseball. He especially enjoyed watching OU Football and the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary White; wife, Lloy "Dean" White; sister, Anna Aleene White Barnes; and three brothers, Earl White, D.B. White and Gordon "Rabbit" White; and sister-in-law, Allie White.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dean White of Seminole; brother and sister-in-law, Burney and Wilma White of Shawnee; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marguerite "Marg" Wilson of Earlsboro and Tiny Oleta and W.G. Wade of Tecumseh; two grandsons and their spouses, Brad and Cherie White and Brent and Jeana White; two sisters-in-law, Johnnie "Sue" White of Pleasant Grove and Louise White of Moore; and numerous extended family and many friends.
Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 and continue through service time.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wesley Martin officiating.
Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Ginnia White
Graveside funeral services for Drumright resident, Ginnia Vee White, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Rev. Gordon Hada of the Drumright Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.
Ginnia Vee White was born in Bryant, Okla. on Feb. 27, 1923 to the John Harris and Emily (Mainord) Harris.
She died in the Drumright Regional Hospital on Nov. 19, 2013 at the age of 90 years.
She was a 1940 graduate of Seminole High School, and had attended Seminole Junior College.
She married Kenneth Lee White on June 1, 1941 in Seminole and they made their home in Tulsa before moving to Drumright in 1959.
She had worked as a secretary for William "Bill" Scribner many years, the Drumright First Baptist Church, Drumright High School, and was the Drumright Chamber of Commerce secretary for 28+ years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband.
Surviving her are her children, Saundra Sue White of Drumright, Kenneth Lee White of Missouri; grandchildren; sister, Linda Parkhurst of McLoud; and brother, Glen Harris of Oklahoma City.
Patricia Whitham
Patricia Jo "Trish" (Yancey) Whitham, 49 year-old, lifelong Seminole County resident died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 in Seminole.
She was born Nov. 27, 1963 in Wewoka to Laura Mae (Brown) Yancey and Howard Lonzo Yancey.
She graduated from New Lima High School in 1982.
She married John Whitham on Dec. 10, 1988 in Shawnee.
She worked for over ten years at J.C. Penny’s in Shawnee and later worked for the Bass Pro Shop in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include her husband, John Whitham of the home; one son, Adam Colt Phillips of Bowlegs; six sisters, Dolly Kelough of Salina, Okla., Margaret McNeill of Seminole, Shirley Castle of Seminole, Judy Roberts of Seminole, Lillie Davidson of Alamo, Tex. and Dorothy Marlow of Wolf, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father Howard Lonzo "Junior" Yancey; her mother, Laura Mae Yancey; one brother, Howard Lee Yancey; five sisters, Betty Sue Lozer, Sheila Gore, Linda Yancey and Deloris Yancey.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Ideal Street Baptist Church 1727 North Ideal Street in Seminole with Dr. Carol Hopper officiating.
Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Sherman Whitley
Sherman Otis Whitley, 78, longtime Seminole resident died Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Sherman was born May 21, 1934 in Milfay, Okla. to Cecil and Sadie (Price) Whitley.
Sherman moved to Seminole 40 years ago from Phoenix, Ariz.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.
Sherman owned and operated Whitley and Son’s Janitorial Service for many years.
Sherman married Gladys Billie Wallace on Feb. 26, 1954 in Wewoka, Okla.
Sherman is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys Billie Whitley of the home; three sons, David Whitley and Kenneth Whitley both of Seminole, Okla. and Jimmy Whitley of Brazil; two sisters Nellie Patterson of Noble, Okla. and Freda Williams of Norman, Okla.
Sherman is also survived by his grandchildren, Billie and Jackie Gamble, Jamie and Saul Vazquez, Dava and Steve Quisenberry, Jennifer Woods, Chris Whitley, David Whitley, Jr., Kimberly Whitley, Stephanie Whitley, Janis Whitley, Charis Whitley and James Whitley; his great-grandchildren, Brooke Gamble, Migel Vazquez, Jaycee Gamble, Olivia Vazquez, Brianna Woods, Bradyn Woods, Brice Woods, Halle Quisenberry, Jake Quisenberry, and his longtime friend Tony Womack of Seminole, Okla.
His parents; brothers, Herman and Cecil Whitley; sister, Lila Roberts; and his son, Keith Whitley preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Sherman will be 10: 00 a.m., Friday at the First Baptist Church in Seminole, Okla. with Rev. Marvin Kehl officiating. Burial will be at Tate Mountain Cemetery Southwest of Wewoka, Okla.
Casket bearers will be David Otis Whitley, Jr., Chris Whitley, Jackie Gamble, Steve Quisenberry, Saul Vazquez, and Migel Vazquez.
Honorary bearers will be Kenny Penuel, Gary Lankford, Bradyn Woods and Bryce Woods.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.
Jacqueline Wilkens
Former Wewoka resident, Jacqueline (Jones) Wilkens died Tuesday morning in her home in Choctaw.
She was born March 5, 1936 in Wewoka to Fleeda Marie (Franklin) Jones and Fred L. Jones.
She attended Wewoka Schools and was a 1954 graduate of Wewoka High School.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands Bruno Rudek and Alan Wilkens.
She worked many years as a seamstress with Oklahoma Clothiers and Big Yank, before going into business for herself as a seamstress.
Survivors include a son, Kevin W. Yeager, Carrolton, TX and one brother, Freddie Lee Jones Jr., Wewoka.
