Orlan Campbell

Orlan Lee Campbell, 77, Seminole resident died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 in Shawnee.

He was born April 12, 1935 in Colorado City, Texas to Oscar and Mamie Lee (Dawson) Campbell.

He worked for Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado for many years as a truck driver, after retirement he moved to Seminole in 2010.

He graduated from D. W. Wallace High School.

After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy on July 6, 1955.

He is survived by three sons, Orlan Campbell, Jr., Darrell Campbell and Christopher Campbell all of Aurora, Colorado; his sisters, Tina C. Wallace and Maxine C. Alexander, Linda Faye C. Anderson all of Dallas, Texas and brothers Willie E. Campbell, John Campbell and Kerry Campbell all of Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther (Briggs) Campbell; and sister, Bertha L. Campbell.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the First Assembly of God Church in Seminole. Rev. Doyle O. Long will officiate at the service.

Burial will be 1:15 p.m., Friday Nov. 30, 2012 at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, in Dallas, Texas.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Heather Capps

Heather Lynn Capps, 39, of Dale, died Thursday, Feb 16, 2012, of massive pulmonary edema after having had no known medical problems.

She was the precious daughter of Larry and Janet Capps of Shawnee.

Heather was born Feb 8, 1973, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

Heather graduated from Dale High School and attended Rose State College, the University of Oklahoma, and East Central University.

She worked in accounting, insurance, and was presently employed by H & R Block.

Heather loved her family and loved cooking for friends, colleagues, and family.

She always brought laughter into the lives of everyone she encountered.

She helped her dad with his academic bowl teams at Dale. She officiated at competitions and assisted him any way she could. She loved the students at Dale that she had the pleasure of working with through academic bowl competition.

Heather was a member of Northeast Free Will Baptist Church of Shawnee.

Heather is survived by her parents, Larry and Janet Capps; her brother and his wife, Larry II and Kimberly Capps; her two grandmothers, Seletha Smith and Edna Capps; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and precious friends.

Both of her grandfathers, Garland Smith and Charles Capps, preceded her in death.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Feb 20, 2012, at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Shawnee, with Brother Quinton Kay officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.

Louise Carpitche

Louise Carpitche, 76, lifelong Konawa resident died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at her home in Konawa.

Louise was born April 3, 1936 in Ada to Coffee and Sallie (Burgess) Carpitche.

Louise was a homemaker and a lifelong Konawa resident.

She is survived by her brother Lewis Carpitche of Konawa and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at the Seminole Arbeka Baptist Church in Konawa with burial at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Rev. George Harjocee will officiate at the service.

There will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa and at the Seminole Arbeka Baptist Church on Friday evening.

Casket bearers will be Harper Givens, James Roberts, Ron Frazier, Mike Jefferson, Gerald Carnes.

Honorary bearers will be Denver Merrell, Alfred Brown and HB Walton.

Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.

Elfreeda Carter

Elfreeda LaRue Carter, a lifetime Seminole County resident, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 78.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1933, in Seminole to Blanton Henry Hill, Sr. and Iva Ruth (Roland) Hill.

Carter worked as nutrition educator from 1999 to 2002, as New Lima Schools cafeteria director, at Doyle’s Quick Stop, the employment office and Gibson Grocery.

She was of the Christian faith.

She was married to Willie Bob Carter Sr., who preceded her in death.

Carter is survived by three sons, Willie Bob Carter, Jr. of Seminole, Roger Carter of Wichita, Kan., and Irvin Carter of Seminole; seven daughters, Kaye Carter of Greensboro, N.C., Rebecca Brown of Seminole, Iva Carter of McLoud, Ethel Thomas of Seminole, Dolores Pittman of McLeansville, N.C., LaDonna Smith of Oklahoma City, Roberta Phillips of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and one brother Blanton H. Hill, Jr. of Seminole.

Carter is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dolores J. Andrews; two brothers, James Hill and Modesta Hill; and daughter, Debra Carter-Reed.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at First Assembly of God Church of Bowlegs.

Pastor Willie Reynolds and Pastor John Stewart will officiate.

Burial will take place at Lima Cemetery, Seminole County.

Serving as casket bearers are Terry Phillips, Sr., Terry Phillips, Jr., Herman Smith, Charles Pittman, William Brian Carter and Malcolm Hill.

Honorary bearers are Blanton Henry Hill, Jr. and Charles Dodson.

Services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Steve Caruso

Memorial services for Steve Caruso of El Reno, were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 at the Center Theatre followed with a dinner at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in El Reno.

Mr. Caruso died on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1963 in Toledo, Ohio to Rollie Van Pelt and Lucella Daly.

He was a 1981 graduate of New Lima High School in Wewoka.

Steve was the founder of New Talent of Oklahoma.

He married Amy Thompson on Aug. 17, 2002.

Steve loved his family and his hobbies included basketball and riding his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rollie Van Pelt and Lucella Daly.

He is survived by his wife Amy Caruso of the home; sons, Leslie Cogburn of Seminole, Kolby Caruso of the home; daughters, Tabitha Todd and husband Paul of McAlester, Tara Nicole Caruso of El Reno; brother, Chuck Fuller of Oklahoma City; sisters, Kimberly Fabri of South Carolina, Linda Rinehart and husband Chris of Mustang, Rebecca Frady and husband David of Mustang, Barbie Anderson of Tulsa; four grandchildren, Anthony Ford, Jaston Todd, Jordan Todd, Logan Porter and many loving nieces and nephews.

Norma Lee Casteel

Aug. 6, 1924 – Oct. 30, 2012

Norma Lee (Baker) Casteel, 88 year old, lifelong Seminole County resident, passed from this life on Oct. 30, 2012 at Sienna Care and Rehabilitation Center in Midwest City.

She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Bowlegs to parents Albert Aaron Baker and Della Mae (Robb) Baker.

On May 20, 1939, Norma married Orval Casteel at the Earlsboro Junction, east of Shawnee.

In 1966, Norma completed LPN training. Her career began at Mission Hill Hospital in Shawnee. Later she retired from Shawnee Regional Hospital (St. Anthony's) also in Shawnee.

Norma is survived by three daughters and sons-in-laws, Dorothy and Royce Davis of Midwest City, Patricia and James Fowler of Plano, Texas, and Kathy and Rick Crosby of Choctaw; one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Jeanette Casteel of Harrison, Arkansas; one son-in-law, Cecil Bergsten of Shawnee; twelve grandchildren, and twenty six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of other family and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her father, Albert Baker; her mother, Della (Robb) Baker; her husband, Orval Casteel; one daughter, Mary Bergsten; three half-brothers, Chester Blaylock, Lloyd Blaylock, and John Byford.

She was also preceded in death by two half-sisters, Rosa Ring, and Renolda Willis and by two great-grandsons, Cole Crosby and Andrew Bergsten.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Dr. Scott Fenton, Meadows Baptist Church, Plano, Texas officiating.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, located north of Seminole on Hwy. 377.

The casket will remain open until service time and will not be open following the service.

Casket bearers will be Joseph Fowler, Murphy Crosby, John Davis, Donald Collins, Steve Bergsten, David Bergsten.

Honorary bearers will be Jim Kanske, James Pfeffer, Martin Harter, Ozzie Jenison, Royce Davis, James Fowler, Rick Crosby, Lucas Casteel, and Cecil Bergsten.

The family has asked that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Gaye Catcher

Gaye Dawn Sparks Catcher passed away from a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) on Aug. 14, 2012.

Gaye was born on May 12, 1962, in Shawnee.

She was a resident of Seminole then moved to McAlester, where she lived until 1987, when she moved to Fort Gibson.

Gaye graduated from McAlester High School in 1980 and attended Southeastern State University in Durant, where she studied Criminal Justice.

Gaye worked at MCAAP Security until 1987.

Gaye was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by many.

Gaye was preceded in death by her father, Billy Earl Sparks, and by her grandparents, Bill and Ruth Allen of Seminole and Earl and Martha Sparks of Yale.

She is survived by mother, Willetta Sparks of Fort Gibson; son, Justin Reece Catcher of Tahlequah; son, Dustin Blake Catcher of Fort Gibson; grandson, Jaden Cash Catcher of Tahlequah; brother, William Earl Sparks of Tulsa; brother, Robert Dean Sparks of Tahlequah; sister-in-law, Tina Sparks of Tahlequah.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Stinnett officiating.

Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.

Honorary Pallbearers are McAlester High School Class of 1980.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
