Funeral services for Amos Jack DeShields will be Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Butner School Gymnasium in Cromwell. Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery.
Amos Jack DeShields, 84, was born southwest of Okemah and graduated from Bearden High School.
He passed away peacefully at home on his Rainbow Hills Ranch near Cromwell on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012.
Jack worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas before moving to Borger, Texas, where he was employed six years by Southwestern Public Service as a chemist and instrument technician.
Jack was also an entrepreneur who ran his cattle ranch.
He was the owner and operator of DeShields Building Stone LLC and DeShields Energy LLC.
He was very involved in the community and supported the local firemen by donating the land for the Cromwell Fire Station.
He provided a building to support Head Start, Cromwell Neighborhood Watch, Senior Citizens and gospel singing and classes. Further services were for the FFA, the Cromwell Baptist Church and school team sports as well as chairman for Bill Tilghman Day.
In 1955, the DeShields moved to Oklahoma City to start a trucking business. For 18 years, Jack worked as a service technician and later service manager for the Norman and Shawnee Sears stores.
For 65 years he was married to Elizabeth Peggy (Bowen) DeShields. Peggy is a retired school teacher, counselor and assistant principal in Oklahoma and Texas public schools.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Brice DeShields and Ida Fay (Harrison) DeShields; three brothers, J.T., Hubert and Alford DeShields and one sister, Lucille DeShields Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy DeShields of the home; one son, Dennis Jack DeShields and wife, Janice of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; one daughter, Sheila deShields and husband, David Ian Hildreth of Jan Jose, California; four grandsons, Dennis Alan DeShields and wife, Misti Autumn Froan DeShields; Jared Matthew DeShields and wife, April Webb Deshields, Ian Andrew DeShields Hildreth and Taylor Bryn DeShields Hildreth.
He is also survived by four cherished great-grandchildren, Liz, Matthew, Jordan and Aidan and a host of nieces and nephews and great friends.
Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandchildren, Ian Andrew DeShields Hildreth, Taylor Bryn DeShields Hildreth, Dennis Alan DeShields, Jared Matthew DeShields, Elizabeth "Liz" DeShields, Matthew DeShields, Jordan DeShields, Aidan DeShields and David Ian Hildreth.
Honorary bearers include Delbert Brown, Leon Collins, Jim Webb, James Whisnant, Joe Brown, Jeff Brown, Greg Brown, Danny Bowen, Linda Bowen White, Ladena Bowen, Archie Floyd Bowen, Maetta Bowen Roadruck, David Bowen, Nick Bowen, Sam Bowen, Mark Bowen, Hazel Carpenter Bowen, Nelda Gilley Bowen and Margie Veazy Bowen.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, with Rev. Derryl DeShields officiating and Bro. Manuel Kishketon and Rev. Terry Jones assisting.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Cromwell, Resurrection Life Church, or Jack and Peggy DeShields Ministries through BancFirst in Okemah.
Dee Dobbs
Dee Pat Dobbs, Jr. of Sallisaw, Oklahoma was born May 15, 1933 in Seminole to Dee P. and Effie Power Dobbs and passed away March 25, 2012 in Muldrow, at the age of 78.
He is survived by wife Ella Mae Dobbs of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Diane Barger-Moore and husband Larry of Sallisaw, Maria Long and husband Roger of Vian, Valerie Parker and husband Bill of Texarkana, Arkansas; one son, Dennis Dobbs and wife Karen of Muldrow, two nieces, Jaquita Beene of Seminole, Jeanette Cabiniss of Sallisaw; 12 Grandchildren, Allan Stewart and wife Brandy, Bridgette Wilson and husband Stephen, Billy Eppler, Lacie Wilson and husband Andy, Chylsea Barger, Alex Dobbs, Nick Moen, Hayley Dobbs, Kendra Dobbs, Shanna Long, Beverly Barger-Elk and husband Sam; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Pat Madsen and Ruby Beene.
Dee married Ella in 1957.
He joined the Navy in 1952. He served in the Navy and retired BMC (Boatswains Mate Chief). He served in Korean and Vietnam War where he was awarded a Bronze Star.
He moved to Sallisaw in 1977 where he retired from Sequoyah Fuel. He was a Business Man in Sallisaw. He retired in 2000.
He was a past Commander of the Fleet Reserve Association in Fort Smith, a Member of VFW Post 4518, Knights of Columbus and a member of The Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Father Desmond Okpogba officiating. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
Viewing will be 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, with family to greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Jack Dobbs
Jack Rudolph Dobbs, age 83 a resident of Asher and a former resident of Konawa died on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 at Ardmore.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at the Dobbs Family Cemetery in Asher under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.
Scott Dobbs will officiate, and DeWayne Dobbs will assist.
Pallbearers are Timothy Dobbs, Jon Dobbs, Justin Dobbs, Jaymon Dobbs, Jeremy Wilkins, and Justice Wilkins. Jacob Dobbs is an honorary pallbearer.
Jack was born on Nov. 15, 1928 in Wanette, Oklahoma to Benjamin Franklin Dobbs and Florence (Gregg) Dobbs.
He served in the Army, and he was a Rock Driller for Dolese Gravel Quarry near Sasakwa.
He married Greta "Jeanette" Thompson on July 20, 1951 in Konawa.
He is survived by two sons, Scott and Carolyn Dobbs of Asher and Frank DeWayne and Cathey Dobbs of Asher; one daughter, Marissa Kay and David Lyons of Ardmore; one sister, Margie Stone of Shawnee; one sister-in-law, Laura Jean Gregg of Lone Grove; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Florence Dobbs; his wife, Jeanette Dobbs; one brother, Alvin Gregg and one sister, Alberta Lou Shaw.
Leona Dodd
Leona "Sis" Dodd, age 91 died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 in Oklahoma City.
She was born on March 19, 1921 in Neosho County, Kansas to Harold and Mildred Beleele.
She married Jim Dodd who preceded her in death.
She is survived by seven children, Violet Dodd of Seminole, Marvin Dodd of Tuskahoma, Jeannie Spoonemore of Seminole, Jody Dodd of McAlester, Becky Hester of Sasakwa, Twala Dodd of Coalgate, Don Dodd of Kingston, 26 grandchildren and numerous great and great, great grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel.
Alice Dodson
Funeral services for Alice Dodson will be held Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cromwell Pentecostal Church with Chaplain Tom Silva officiating.
Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery in Seminole County.
She was born March 16, 1935 in Cromwell to Forrest Blanton and Sarah Maude Stanfield.
She died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 in Denton, Texas at the age of 77.
She lived most of her life in the Cromwell area. In 2010, she moved to Denton, Texas.
In 1953, she married Boyce Dodson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Forrest Blanton and Sarah Maude Stanfield; brothers, Harley Stanfield, Harvey Stanfield and Nolan Stanfield.
Survivors include her daughters, Sarah of Denton, Texas, Jeannie Holz of Oklahoma City and Monica Dunn of Double Oak, Texas; sisters, Nora Thomas of Tecumseh and Helen Dodson of Cromwell; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robert Holz, Drew Silva, Colton Silva, Michael Clark, Ashley Greene, and Nolan Dodson.
Honorary pallbearers will be CW2 Ryan Holz and Capt. Eric DuChene.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.
William Dodson
William "Bill" Dodson long time Seminole county resident passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at the age of 92 in Seminole, Oklahoma.
William was born November 10, 1920 in Okemah, Oklahoma to parents, John Roy Dodson and Goma (Stephens) Dodson.
William married Norma Jean (Mullins) Dodson in Wewoka, Oklahoma on November 16, 1940. Norma Jean preceded "Bill" in death January 19, 2011.
Bill and Norma Jean lived in Seminole from 1949 to 1981, moved to Lake Eufaula for 14 years and then back to Seminole in 1991. He was employed at Canadian Valley for 18 years. He also pumped wells for Ray Stephens and currently was a door greeter at Wal-Mart. He attended the Assembly of God Faith.
Dodson is survived by three daughters, Deloris Jean Earnest of Seminole, Oklahoma; Phyllis Ann Elmore of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and adopted daughter Jamie Elaine Hackler of McAlester, Oklahoma. Four brothers, Edward Dodson of Wewoka, Oklahoma; Bobby Dodson of Phoenix, Arizona; Jamie Dodson of Cromwell, Oklahoma; and Archie Dodson of Arizona. He is also survived by two sisters, Irene Churchwell of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Lois Brown of Phoenix, Arizona.
William was preceded in death by his parents, John Roy Dodson and Goma Dodson. Brothers, A.J. Dodson, Johnnie Dodson, Billy Dodson and Boyce Dodson. Sisters, Alpha Lee McBeth and Gereldean Wallace of Phoenix, Arizona. Dodson is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Burial will take place at Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Avis Dorsett
Avis Antionette Dorsett, 90, longtime Seminole resident died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee.
She was born Jan. 8, 1922 in Ione, Arkansas to Thomas E. and Ira Vanilla (Powell) Boggs.
Avis came to Seminole from Glenpool 57 years ago.
Avis loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and showed it throughout her life.
She loved attending church.
Avis was a homemaker who kept her house very well and cared for her family whom she loved very much.
She was a very good grandmother and they loved her great "Home Cooking."
She had a passion for flowers and gardening, and was always thinking of others.
She loved to bake cakes, pies and deliver to the elderly of her church and to her neighbors.
In earlier years she worked as a cashier at the Newton Walls Store in Seminole.
Avis was married to Victor G. Thrasher, the father of her children, who died on June 24, 1982 and to Oscar Dorsett, second husband who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2004.
Avis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Don R. and Martha Thrasher of Ft. Worth, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky A. and Dick Haley of Shawnee; her brother, Burl Boggs of Sand Springs.
She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she loved very much; Robin King and her husband Bobby of Shawnee, Rick Haley and his wife, Carol of Tecumseh and Samantha Thrasher of Ft. Worth, Texas and six great grandchildren, Chris King, Caitlyn King, Devin Haley, Maegan B. Haley, Meagan D. Haley and Erika Haley.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole with Matt Moseley officiating.
The family would like to thank Angelic Hospice and Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee, the nurses and all staff personnel who cared for Avis during her illness.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
