Dorothy Lee Kibby
Dec. 7, 1920 - July 14, 2012
"I don’t know when I’ll ever die!" Dorothy said with a note of impatience.
Almost a year ago, she announced that she was ready to go to a skilled nursing center.
She helped pack her suitcase, and walked out the door of the home she and Roy had built without looking back and without a tear.
She entered the skilled nursing center of her choice without a hitch.
Now she was ready to meet God and all of her family who had left her behind - and nothing was happening!
We told her that she needed an invitation from God: that people don’t crash His parties.
July 14, Dorothy finally got the invitation she had been anticipating.
She left without a tear and without regrets.
Now that we have considered her life, we found that one word would summarize her life.
Dorothy Kibby was a "giver".
We are constantly reminded of the variety and richness of her numerous gifts.
She gave us love: Years ago, Grandma used to send cards with one or two words underlined to emphasize her love and emotions.
But over the years, she began to underline every word in the card.
We often laughed about her emphasizing every word.
But we all understood that the few words on the card didn’t describe the vast, profound feeling in her heart.
She gave us beauty: For years, her gardens and lawn were a work of art.
The things she canned, the pies she made (She made all the great pie crusts for Kalico Kitchen for several years.), quilts, afghans, oil paintings, tole painting, crocheting, ceramics, and beautiful clothing for daughters and granddaughters were all beautiful and unique.
She gave us a template for success: Grandma was a "doer".
She was always busy with her multiple professions!
Perhaps, because Grandpa was seriously disabled in World War II, she was called upon to do more.
Consequently around the house, she was a plumber, carpenter, and could repair small gadgets and equipment.
When working on the farm, she could drive the tractor, fix fences, herd cattle, and help castrate calves!
She gave us an example of life-long learning: If she didn’t know how to fix something and was forced to call a repairman, she would hover over the repairman so that she could learn to fix it next time without having to call someone.
She gave us counsel: Dorothy was prepared to give her unsolicited opinion about almost anything from how to drive the car; repair equipment; cook a pot roast to advising doctors on how to set casts and contractors how to wire, plumb, or build.
She gave us life: Dorothy and Roy Kibby had two children: Jim Kibby and Peggy Kibby Ebersole, three grandchildren: Kim Ebersole Rolston, Todd Ebersole, and Julie Kibby Becerra, three great grandchildren: Chase, Christopher, and Alyssa Ebersole.
She gave us memories colored with warmth, love, humor and concern.
We all know that our lives were blessed because of her and her unconditional love.
