Lifelong Seminole resident, Ron Phelps, passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness on New Year’s Eve at the age of 65.
Ron was born in Shawnee on Aug 25, 1946 to his parents Joe Phelps and Edna Mae (Hough) Phelps.
Ron, a champion debater, graduated from Seminole High School in 1965. Attending the University of Oklahoma on a National Merit Scholarship, Ron received B.A. and M.A. degrees in English Literature. He was famous for teaching his English class at OU while disrobed.
Ron later taught the children of migrant farm workers in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and instructed United States military personnel in creative writing while residing in Germany.
A writer, poet, musician, and intellectual, Ron penned voluminous imaginative works including his book of memorable epigrams, From the Hotel in Antarctica and numerous works of fiction. Among them were a Buddhist mystery, Murder by Dharma, an American Civil War novella, The Enactment, and a science fiction novel, X. Ron’s critical study of Nicholas Roeg's cult-film, Performance, was itself a cult piece of writing.
His essays, "The sentence of Madison Morrison" and "The Darkness of Light" were published in 2005 in a compilation on the contemporary philosopher, Madison Morrison.
With a taste for music both popular and classical, Uncle Ronnie composed a wonderful set of children’s pieces for solo piano that he played and taught to his own nieces.
Ron is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Judy Phelps of Seminole, his two beloved nieces and their husbands, Lauren and Brad Schatzel of Oklahoma City and Lane and Jess Royall of Venice, California. Ronnie is also survived by his two grand-nephews, Benjamin and Desmond Schatzel, and had just been introduced to his new-born grand-niece, Genevieve. Ron is also survived by his significant friends, Kathy Misuraca, of Seminole and Bonnie Monroney, of Louisiana.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edna Mae, his grandparents, W.H. and Nedda Hough of Seminole, and Orley and Vern Phelps of Putnam, Oklahoma.
The family will hold a private memorial service and burial. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Ernest Phillips
Ernest Leroy Phillips, 84, of Huntsville, Texas passed away Nov. 5, 2012 at Park Manor Rehabilitation in Conroe, Texas, with his daughters at his side.
Ernie "Bud" Phillips was born in Cestos, Okla., on Nov. 17, 1927 to Lillie Eva Waldo Phillips and Emery Phillips who have both preceded him in death.
Ernie was an accomplished and respected pilot, with over 30, 000 logged flight hours and 1100 Arctic Circle crossings, who was a pioneer in the Alaska aviation industry utilizing the first Lear Jets in support of the oil and gas industry in Alaska.
Ernie was a problem solver who often introduced design improvements for the aircraft he operated though never formally trained in industrial design.
Ernie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise, to whom he was married for 64 years and whom he lost six weeks before he died, and by grandson Richard Todd Cassidy and great grandson Lane K. C. Halliwell.
He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Halliwell of Huntsville, Tex. and his daughter, Marianne Head and husband, James of Humble, Tex. and grandchildren Chris Halliwell of Jacksonville, FL, Kim Farmer of Sebring, FL, Casey Halliwell of Jacksonville, FL, Jeffrey Head of Austin, Tex. and John Head of Poulsbo, WA. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Nov. 15, 2012 at the Brooke Funeral Home Chapel, 672 FM 980 Huntsville, Texas 77320.

Karolyn Phillips
Karolyn Fay Phillips was born on Nov. 24, 1949, in Prague and departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 63.
Karolyn, the daughter of Floyd and Sylvia (Roberts) Yeager, was a resident of Guthrie.
She` married Terry Phillips on May 6, 2000, in Seminole.
Karolyn was a graduate of the Oklahoma School for the Blind and worked for the League for the Blind as a receptionist, answering service, and dispatcher.
She was an accomplished singer, song writer, poet and musician.
She was a member of the Seminole First Assembly of God Church and the Seasons of Refreshing online church.
Her parents, and grandparents, Willard and Mary Roberts and Jim and Bertha Yeager preceded Karolyn in death.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Phillips of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard Yeager of Oklahoma City, Steven and Layla Yeager of Prague; grandchildren, Cory, Drake, Ryan, Riley, Dylan, Tommy, and Trinity; step-son, Richard Phillips of Seminole, step daughters, Trina Phillips of Ogden, Utah, Susan Phillips of Spokane, Washington; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Melba Yeager of Oklahoma City; sisters and brother-in-law: Pat Moore of Seminole, Joanne and Roger Fleming of Prague; aunt, Bea Hanks of Seminole; numerous nephews and nieces and other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday Dec. 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Pastor Doyle Long officiating.
Interment will follow at Rossville Cemetery in Meeker.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Marian Phillips
Marian Louise Phillips, 82, of Huntsville, Texas passed away Sept. 23, 2012 at her home in Huntsville, TX with her daughters at her side.
Louise Phillips was born in Seminole on Feb. 5, 1930 to Mary and Houston Parker who have both preceded her in death.
She began her life with her husband Ernie of 64 years, in Seminole and would spend much of the rest of her life residing in Denver, CO. Anchorage, AK. and Aberdeen, SD. before retiring in Huntsville, TX. in 2005.
She loved spending time with family, loved ones and many beloved family pets.
She was truly a lifelong partner of her husband as they traveled and worked together over their years of marriage.
She is survived her husband Ernest L. Phillips of Huntsville, TX; two daughters, Elaine Halliwell of Huntsville, TX and Marianne Head and her husband James of Humble, TX; five grandchildren, Chris Halliwell of Jacksonville, FL, Kimberly Farmer of Sebring, FL, Casey Halliwell of Jacksonville, FL, Jeffrey Head of Austin, TX, John Head of Poulsbo, Wash. and seven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by grandson, Richard Todd Cassidy.

Tommy Phillips
Tommy D. Phillips, Wewoka resident died Friday, Jan 6, 2012 at the age of 72.
He was born Sept 28, 1939 in Wewoka to parents Theodore Roosevelt Phillips and Palmer Elizabeth Sutton.
He graduated from Douglass High School in Wewoka.
He served in the Navy and Air Force.
Phillips worked as a Volkswagen mechanic in Albuquerque, NM. He also worked at Oakridge Nursing Home in Wewoka for 20 years as Laundry Supervisor.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Jan 13, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Wewoka. Rev. B.G. Renfro will officiate.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving him are daughters, Sylvia D. Phillips of Oklahoma City, Vonda Williams of Wewoka, Carla Phillips and Elizabeth Phillips, both of Albuquerque, NM; special friend Oletha Gordon of the home; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka.
Doris Phillips-Hubbard
Doris Ann Simpson Phillips-Hubbard, 63, of Earlsboro, passed away, Tuesday, Feb 14, 2012, in Ardmore.
She was born Sept 3, 1948 to J.C., Sr. and Virginia (Dial) Simpson in Seminole.
Doris was raised in Seminole and attended Pleasant Grove Schools.
She served two years with the Job Corps. in Poland Spring, Maine.
Doris later attended Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech for one year and completed her Licensed Practical Nursing training. She worked as an LPN for many years.
Doris was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She enjoyed basketball, fishing, and cooking with her family.
Doris had a passion for singing and was well known for her beautiful voice. She was frequently requested to sing for special occasions.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, J.C., Sr. and Virginia Simpson; son, Frank Phillips, Jr.; five sisters, Vivian Farris, Sophie Sutton, Rose White, Shirley Jo Simpson and Nancy Ann Simpson; and brother, Curtis Simpson.
She is survived by her ex-husbands, Frank Phillips, of Wagoner, OK and Reggie Hubbard; four daughters, Frances Phillips, of Tecumseh, Ladell Phillips, of Norman, Kimberly Phillips, of Brooksville, and Jacquelyn Phillips, of Tecumseh; three sisters, Joann Harris, Eva Cooper and Mary L. Hardman; two brothers, James Simpson and J.C. Simpson, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, Feb 20, 2012 at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Sowatske No. 972 Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Treva Phipps
Treva Ann Phipps, 75 of Linn, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 at her home in Madill.
She was born on Jan. 20, 1937 in Maud, to the late Noel Elvin Richards and Annie Lillian Ryker Richards.
Treva was raised in the Maud and Harjo area and in 1963 moved to Marshall County where she lived the rest of her life.
She married Harold Roy (Red) Phipps on June 1, 1965 in Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2003.
Treva attended the Little City Baptist Church for several years and was recently attending the First Assembly of God Church in Madill.
She loved her family and she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and working outside on her lawn.
She is survived by her children, Darrell Paul Lott and wife Vicki of Ardmore, Ricky S. Lott and wife Kathy of Enos, OK and Charlotte A. Connel and husband Billy Joe (B. J.) of Madill; step-children, Dale Phipps of Forest Grove, Oregon and Sherry Cafaro of California; grandchildren, Jared Connel and wife Jaime of Lone Grove, Steven Connel of Oklahoma City, Brooke Davis and husband Eric of Madill, Waylon Lott and wife Amanda of Madill, Josh O’Steen and wife Tamara of Enos, Sara Robbins and husband Logan of Ardmore, Sheila Lott of Ardmore and Rachel Jones and husband Patrick of Ardmore and 15 great grandchildren, Jaidon, Jacie and Jaren Connel, Grace and Kaytleigh Davis, Baler and Bridger Lott, Brittany, Delton and Joshlyn O’Steen, Jessica, Alivia and Ava Robbins, Addison and Jovi Jones.
She is also survived by one brother, Lee Richards of Maud and one sister, Ozeeta Dodson of Shawnee.
Treva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Delbert Richards and T. C. (Chuck) Richards.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and a family hour will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Watts Funeral Home in Madill.
Services will be Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill.
Paul Hutchison and Ron Armitage will officiate the service. Music arranged by Paul Hutchison.
Interment will be at the Linn Cemetery, Linn, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma.
Casket Bearers will be Jared Connel, Steven Connel, Waylon Lott, Eric Davis, Josh O’Steen, Logan Robbins and Patrick Jones.
Honorary Bearers will be W.L. Moore, Howard Hammons, Pete Cook and Ron Williams.
