Louise Trimble died on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the age of 92.
She was born Oct. 21, 1919 in Burning Springs, West Virginia to Archie T. and Maude Pepper Brohard.
She married Noel "Dude" Trimble Oct. 19, 1934 in Seminole.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband; her mother; her two sisters and her son-in-law, Weston Winters.
She is survived by one son, Bill Trimble of Scottsdale, Arizona and two daughters, Carole Winters of Provo, Utah and Sandra Larsen of American Fork, Utah and ten grandchildren.
As per her wishes, a private graveside service will be held at the Orem Cemetery for dedication of her final resting place.
James Tucker
James W. Tucker age 71, of Wewoka died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Holdenville General Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1940 to William and Orleana (Dix) Tucker.
He had been a patient at Oakridge Nursing Center since 1986, at the time of his death he was a patient at Wewoka Home Care.
Graveside Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. Amanda B.P. Lockwood of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Phyllis Tucker
Phyllis Ray Tucker, 31, Seminole resident died Monday, Jan 23, 2012 in Seminole, Oklahoma.
She was born Nov 6, 1980 to Larry and Linda (Pack) Clements in Shawnee.
Phyllis was remembered by her family as the sweetest wife, mother, daughter and friend.
Phyllis graduated from Varnum High School in 1999 and went on to get a degree in Early Childhood Education at East Central University in Ada.
She was currently a homemaker and stay at home mother with her new baby boy.
Phyllis married Jeremy Tucker on Nov 18, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church in Seminole.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Jeremy Tucker of the home in Seminole, two sons, Tanner Tucker and her baby boy, Mason Tucker both of the home. She is also survived by her mother, Linda (Pack) Clements of Seminole, sister, Becky Stalnaker of Seminole and close friend Kenny McNeill and his daughter Breonna of Seminole. Her mother-in-law and father-in-law Carie and Bill Avery of Maud, sister-in-law Andrea Caldwell and family of North Carolina and a brother-in-law Ryan Tucker of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father Larry Clements on July 16, 2008.
Funeral services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, Jan 27, 2012 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Wanda Turbeville
Wanda Dacus Turbeville, 87, a long-time former resident of Seminole, died of natural causes on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Athens, Georgia.
Wanda was always proud to call Seminole "home." She graduated from Seminole High School, was a member of the Seminole chapter of Beta Sigma Phi professional women’s sorority, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Before retiring she enjoyed a long career in the newspaper business working at the Seminole Producer, St. Petersburg (FL) Times and Palm Beach Post Times as a proof reader.
She particularly enjoyed fishing on Lake Okeechobee and activities with family and friends always kept a smile on her face.
Turbeville, the former Wanda Jean Parker was born May 15, 1925 in Ravia, Oklahoma, the daughter of Estelle and Elsie Lee Parker. Preceding Wanda in death were her father and mother; husbands Doyan S. Dacus and Ray C. Turbeville- both former residents of Seminole; a son Donald Doyan Dacus, a daughter Susie Dacus Altman and a brother Junior Parker and a sister Mary Wood.
She is survived by two grandaughters, Ashley S. O'Neill of Marietta, Georgia; Alyson Griggs of Madison, Georgia and a great granddaughter Adyson Taylor Griggs and a former son-in-law, Ramsesy Altman of Eatonton, Georgia.
"Nana" as she was known to her family was a kind, generous and sweet woman, who was a friend to so many and cared for her friends and family with all of her heart. She will be truly missed!
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 21 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma.
Donald Tye
Graveside services were held recently for Donald (Donnie) Arthur Tye.
He was born in 1946 to Jesse Lee and VeNeva Jean (Warrenburg) Tye.
Donnie was raised in the Strother-Little community by his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Rosie Tye and aunts, Prudy and Nellie Tye.
After graduating from Strother High School, he joined the Air Force.
Later, Donnie worked at Tinker Air Force base until his retirement.
Donnie had a natural talent for playing the guitar and singing.
He enjoyed playing and often would sing and play a song, after hearing it a few times.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, including maternal grandparents, Everett and Ethel Warrenburg.
He is survived by a sister, Kelleen Kerr and many cousins.
Wesley Upton Sr.
Wesley Eugene Upton Sr. died Oct. 12, 2012 in Seminole.
He was born May 28, 1923 in Kinta, Okla. to Jim and Martha (Trahan) Upton.
He moved to Wewoka at an early age and attended Wewoka Public Schools.
He met Modene McConnell and was married in 1947. The couple had one son, Wesley Jr.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
During this time he earned the prestigious Purple Heart decoration.
He worked for many years until his retirement in 1987 at John Gibbs Auto as a mechanic.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Modene; siblings, Ridgely and Chock.
Survivors include his son, Wesley Upton Jr. of Wewoka and two grandchildren.
Graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Roy Sisco will officiate.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Bobbie Upton
Bobbie Jeane (Lyon) Upton, 81 year-old lifelong Seminole County resident, passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
She was born Jan. 20, 1931 in Sasakwa to parents Charlie N. Lyon and Lula Mae (Cargill) Lyon.
Bobbie grew up in the Sasakwa area, where while attending school, she loved to play basketball.
Following her graduation from high school she married Billy Ray Upton on Sept. 5, 1948 in Sasakwa.
Bobbie went on to further her education earning her associate degree from Seminole State College and then her bachelors degree in education from East Central University in Ada.
Bobbie loved education so much that while teaching elementary school in Vamoosa and raising a family she went on to earn her masters degree in elementary education from East Central University.
Bobbie later taught third grade at Seminole Public Schools from which she retired after having taught for twenty plus years.
Bobbie was also very involved in her community where ever she was needed. She is a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also served as a Pink Lady at Seminole Hospital for 12 years, where she held the position past president. Bobbie served as a Senator for the Silver Hair Legislature and was also vice-chair of that legislative committee.
One of the things that Bobbie loved the most was her God and family. She was a longtime member of the Seminole First Baptist Church where she was always involved.
Bobbie leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Larry Upton and his wife Debbie of Oklahoma City, Keith Upton of Seminole, Michael Upton and his wife Gailanne of Pittsburgh, Penn., Mickey Upton and his wife Masami of Seminole; one brother-in-law, Bob Upton and his wife Judy of Dewey, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Pam Yort of Shawnee; five grandchildren, Greg Upton of Chandler, Okla., Nick Upton of McAlester, Ginger Bibee of Stigler, Amy Wilson of Norman and Alex Upton of Seminole; seven grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lula Mae Lyon; by her husband, Billy Ray Upton (May 28, 1989); by two brothers, Paul Lyon and Noal Lyon; and by two sisters, Carrie Mae Harrod and Ruth Olsen.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at the Seminole First Baptist Church located at 420 Reid Street in Seminole. Rev. Marvin Kehl will officiate the service with interment following at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.
Casket Bearers will be Kenny Harrod, Cullen Harrod, Steve Olsen, Tim Olsen, Matthew Olsen, David Lyon and Brian Lyon.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
James Vails
James "Jim" Ronald Vails was born June 2, 1934 in St. Louis, Oklahoma.
Jim was the youngest of five children born to Oscar Dennis Vails and Ann (Hicks) Vails Moorehead.
In 1954, Jim married Claudine Chaffin Vails.
Jim and Claudine had two children, Tony and Rhonda (Miller).
After graduation from Bowlegs High School, Jim became involved in door to door vacuum sales where he met and kept many lifelong friends.
From his vacuum experience, Jim developed a retail vacuum and sewing machine business.
He owned three stores in the Northwest Oklahoma City area.
In the 1970’s Jim developed a restaurant remodeling company, Jim Vails Construction, which he owned and operated until the 1990’s.
From the 1960’s to the 1980’s Jim enjoyed Midget Car racing at Taft Stadium and later open wheels stock car racing at the OKC Fairgrounds.
Jim was an avid gardener.
Jim was a devoted Sooner fan and took his family on numerous OU football road trips across the country.
Until the morning he died, Jim was a well-loved gambler.
He loved to play the ponies and played poker regularly with his grandson, Todd Miller’s poker friends.
Known as "Grandpa" or "Einstein" to his friends and "Pa Pa" to his family, Jim could light up a room, a poker table, or a dance floor.
Jim is survived by his ex-wife, Claudine Vails; son, Tony Vails and his wife, Deborah; their daughters, Kristen Vails and Jennifer Vails Poch.
He is also survived by his daughter, Rhonda Vails Miller; her son, Todd Miller and her daughters, Kimberly and Amanda Miller.
Also surviving Jim are Terry Miller, Kimberly, Todd and Amanda’s dad, a host of nephews and nieces and his very dear poker buddies.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home (601 S. Kelly Edmond, OK).
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday Aug. 10, 2012 at Heritage Fellowship Church (329 W. 2nd St. Edmond, OK) with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home Edmond.
