Robert Wood

Robert "Tom" Wood of Sasakwa went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday morning June 3, 2012 at his residence in Sasakwa at the age of 72 years.

Born Nov. 9, 1939 in Tahlequah to the late Tom (Doxie) and Ollie (Harjo) Wood.

Robert married Joammie Burgess Nov. 4, 2004 in Konawa and they made their home in Saskawa.

He worked for OLG and Alford Propane as truck drive for number of years.

He attended Sasakwa.

Robert was Minister and Deacon of Seminole Indian Baptist Church and served as vice chairman for Sasawka Water Board.

Preceding Robert in death are his parents; daughter, Olivia Webster; sisters, Helen and Louise and a brother, George.

Survivors include his wife, Joammie Wood of the home; children, Julie Wood, OKC, Robert Wood Jr., Tecumseh, Steve Wood, Maud, Wesley Roulston and wife Sherry of Newella, Theda Pogue and husband Chris of Bilioxi, MS; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Hepsey Harjo of Weleetka; a special angel Mattie Pogue, and a special cousin, Winn Harjo, a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Tiger, Mike Jefferson, Glen Gibbs, Windford Harjo, Gerald Prator, Marvin Osborne, and Apollo Gonzales.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be Charles Burgess, Larry Harjo, Dean Welch, Clifton Coody, and Allen Foster.

Wake service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Willie Quient officiating.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimsey Harjo and Rev. George Harjochee officiating and burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Thaddeus Yates

Thaddeus J. Yates, known as "TJ" died at the age of 79 at his home in Asher on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012.

No services are scheduled at this time, and cremation is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

He was born May 24, 1933 in Tahlequah to Rufus Yates and Thelma (Whiteley) Yates.

After graduation, he proudly served in the Navy.

He was a pipe fitter and welder by trade.

He is survived by his former spouse, Linda David of Asher; one son, Joe Yates of the home; two sisters, Oma Waters of Stratford and Margaret Black of Shawnee and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Thelma Yates; one infant sister and one infant brother; one sister, Mary Ruth; two brothers, Frank and William Yates.

Sarah York

Sarah Faye York, age 97 years passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 9th, at her residence in Wewoka.

Born October 23rd, 1914 in the community of Empire-Gas City, near Duncan, in Stephens County to William Whit Kincannon and Mary Alice (Cameron) Kincannon. Faye was the youngest of ten children, four brothers and five sisters, which all are deceased.

Faye came to know Christ and was baptized in a farm pond near the Fair Baptist Church near Empire, Okla. at the age of twelve years. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Wewoka since 1942.

Faye married Humphrey Smith in 1934, he was killed in action during WWII.

She married Paul Vance in 1946, he passed away in 1958.

She later married Curtis York and he passed away in 1980.

She moved to Wewoka in 1937. She worked for F.W. Woolworth Company for five years, and J.C. Penny CO. for 10 years.

Faye is survived by two sons William Paul Vance, Loyd Wayne Vance, daughter-in-law Georgia Lu Ann Vance all of the home, a step-daughter Gerry Bell of OKC, ; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:00 z.m. Saturday, May 12, at First Baptist Church, Wewoka with Rev. Dan Factor and assisted by Rev. Jay Badry officiating and burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pall Bearers will be Jerry Conley, Patrick Andrews, Jeremy Harden, Guy Tucker, Dwight Smith, and son William Paul Vance. Honorary Bearer will be Gary Grissom.

Florene Young

Florene (Godwin) Young of Tyler, Texas entered eternal life on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Tyler Texas; she was 98.

Florene was born in Tioga, Texas on May 8, 1913 to Minnie Lee (Craft) and Olan "O.E." Godwin.

On Aug. 28, 1935, Florene married Guy Young in Oklahoma City.

Florene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Myrna Young of Tyler, Texas; one granddaughter, Dona Stone and husband David; one grandson, David Young and wife Dianna; four grandchildren, Jessica Taylor and husband Joe, Michael Stone and fiancée Anna Bedsole, Dana Young and Daniel Young; and one sister, Betty Ruth Lakey.

Florene’s parents, O.E. and Minnie Godwin, her husband, Guy Young, her twin sister, Lorene Pitzer, three sisters, Syble Freeman, Mattie "Jean" Salathiel and Mildred Wright, and one brother, O.E. Godwin preceded her in death.

Florene will be laid to rest at a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.

Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Stone, Daniel Young and Joe Taylor.

Meals on Wheels was very important to Florene. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to: Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 5475, Tyler, Texas 75712

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Thomas Hansen

Thomas William Hansen, 60 year-old, Seminole resident died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1948, in Wasco County, Ore., to Henry L. Hansen and Amy (Jones) Hansen.

Following High School Hansen served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later married Linda Faye (Mayes) Hansen on Dec. 23, 1988, in Rio Linda, Calif. They moved to Seminole six years ago from Rockland, Calif.

Hansen worked as a construction contractor and also worked for White’s Building and Lumber, in Seminole. He was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God, in Seminole.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; four sons; five daughters; two siblings; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Tamberlyn Sue Russell.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2009 and Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. each evening.

A Celebration of Hansen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God located on Hwy 9 across from the Oil Museum, in Seminole. Chaplain Karen McCullar will officiate the service. The United States Army will provide Military Honors.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.

Janie Harber

Janie M. Harber, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Oct 16, 2009. She was born Feb. 9, 1937, to Frank Sr. and Willie Harber. She was born and raised in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Janie was a wonderful mother and friend, she was a person that always put others needs before her own.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Brown and husband Johnie, of Sapulpa; grandsons, Justin and Cole Brown; son, Frank Cumpton and wife Vickie, of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher, Elisha and Daniel; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the Seminole Church of Christ, at 12040 N. Hwy 99.

Mary Harber

Former Konawa resident Mary (May) Etras Jumper Harber, 97, of Blanchard, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 14, 1911, to James Franklin and Sarah Lou Jumper, in Sallisaw.

She graduated from Konawa High School and East Central Oklahoma State University.

During the depression she left home to work various jobs to help support her family. As a young woman, she worked as a secretary at the state capitol. She also worked for Philips Petroleum, in Tulsa. During WWII she moved her family to California where she acquired work in the livestock loan department of Bank of America.

She and her husband owned and operated several Seminole businesses including the tag agency and Frank Harber Buick.

Thirty-five years ago she owned and operated her own drapery business, in Seminole.

She is survived by four children, Janie Servias, of Arkansas, Donna Stokes, of Blanchard, Mark Harber, of Arkansas, and Jim Harber, of Blanchard; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Franklin and Sarah Lou Jumper; brother, James Franklin Jumper Jr.; sisters, Iva Gardner, Eva Ragland, and Ruby Schrader; husband, Frank Hershell Harber; and son, Frank Harber, Jr.

Services were Monday, March 09, 2009 at Eisenhour Funeral Home, in Blanchard, at 10 a.m. Pastor Dale Brubaker officiated.

Arlene Harjo

Arlene Onis Harjo, age 34 and a resident of Sasakwa, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Seminole Estates Rehab Center, in Seminole. She was born Aug. 24, 1974, in Seminole, to Philip Harjo and Lucy (Tebe) Harjo.

She is survived by her parents, Lucy Harjo, of the home and Philip Harjo, of Norman; brothers, Arthur Tebe, of Sasakwa and Anthony Harjo, of Seminole; and sister, Phyllis Yahola, of Sasakwa.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church north of Konawa. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Konawa.

Burial will follow at the Tebe Family Cemetery, in Sasakwa. David Dunson and Newman Crow will officiate.

Pallbearers are Jacob Tebe, Steven Tebe, Leo Moppin, Jr., Michael Wood, Danny Harjo, and Donald Dorsey.

Honorary pallbearers are Steve Dorsey, Victor Harjo, Keith Williamson, Joseph Tebe, Daniel Tanyan, and James Harjo, Jr.

Visitation is located at Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Charlotte Harjo

Charlotte Ann Harjo, age 52, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, on Hwy 99 near Wolf.

A Wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the Pentecostal Church of God, in Konawa, and funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Pentecostal Church of God, in Konawa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa. Rev. Arthur Carpitcher will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Johnnie Harjo, Tony Melton, Leo "Crane" Alexander, Blake Alexander, John Harjo, and Steve Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers are James Harjo, Richy Harjo, Jeremy Harjo, Brandon Harjo, Felix Martinez, Winfred Harjo, Jonathan Walker, and Francisco Porras.

She was born June 30, 1956, in Talihina, to Almond Harjo and Jo Anne (Wolf) Harjo. She received an Associate in Applied Science, and she worked as an Accounting Assistant for the Seminole Judgment Fund. She lived most of her life in the Konawa area. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, of Konawa.

She is survived by her son, Brandon Harjo and her daughter, Jennifer Simpson, both of Konawa; three brothers, James Harjo, of Ada, Jeremy Harjo, of Konawa, and Richy Harjo, of Wewoka; three sisters, Jimmie Lou Harjo, of Ada, Tammy Harjo, of Oklahoma City, and Juanita Gibson, of Ada; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Almond and Jo Anne Harjo, one sister, Elizabeth Robinson, and one brother, Sam Harjo.
