Larry "Joe" Henley of Oklahoma City passed away blessed to be surrounded by his friends and family on Friday, May 1, 2009, at the age 60, in the Mercy Medical Center.
Joe was born on October 18, 1948 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1967, attended East Central University, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Central State University. Joe was also a member of the Army Reserve.
Joe was self-employed for 14 years where he is remembered by many for his tireless service. He was a valued employee of Shelter Insurance Companies for 22 years serving as an agent, loss control specialist, and recently serving as a Regional Underwriter. He was the recipient of the prestigious James L. McTurnam Award.
Joe was an avid sports fan and enthusiast with a passion for golf. He began playing at the age of 13. He played on the junior and senior high school golf teams and won countless awards; however, two double eagles and two holes-in one were particularly precious. He was specifically notorious for his "crushing" drives.
Joe is remembered by countless individuals for his truly selfless generosity and abounding love of others. He gave of his time and resources to numerous organizations, one of which was the Oklahoma Blood Institute. He had been a devoted donor for more than 30 years.
Joe Is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Deidra McKenzie Henley; their cherished child Jace; beloved niece Christen; and loving pet Buddy Love; brother Michael Henley, and wife Trellys, of Santa Rosa, California; brother David Henley, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; sister Cherie Trousdale and husband Bob, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; his uncle Kenneth Goodman and Margie, of Prue, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Keith, Phil and Chris Henley, of California; Damon Henley, of Tecumseh; Derek Henley, of Seminole; Amanda Oakes, of Norman; B. J. Trousdale, of Tecumseh; and his aunt June Looney, of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clinton and Loretta Henley, his sister Rebecca Jane Henley, parents-in-law Robert and DeOn McKenzie, sister-in-law Gena Puckett, and nephew Christopher Puckett.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Joe Henley will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, in Oklahoma City. Officiating at the celebration will be Reverend Charles Spencer.
The pallbearers include: Larry Stockton, Gary Smith, Richard Vestal, Larry Moyer, Larry DeLacratez, Gordon Pyle, Doug Whitley, and Marty Seikel.
The honorary pallbearers are his Shelter family, his 50's golf buddies and his Pi Kappa Alpha brothers.
Harry Henshaw
Harry Lee Henshaw, of Wewoka, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009.
He was born August 9, 1923, in Seminole, to Tom Henshaw and Lucy Micco Wise.
Harry worked for Nelson' s Furniture as carpet layer for many years. He attended Gleaners Holiness Church.
Preceding him in death are his wife Betty, son Charles Henshaw, grandson Justice, brothers Roscoe Henshaw, Roley Henshaw, and Jasper Wise.
Survivors include five daughters, Carleta Henshaw, of Tulsa, DarleneSisco of Seminole, Donna Henshaw of Edmond, Michelle Suiter, Fairbanks, Ark., Shirley Henshaw, of New York, two sons Derek Henshaw, of Wewoka, Dewayne Peters, of Seminole, sister Sarah Beck, of Sapulpa. Fourteen grandchildren Shannon, Hailey, Ty, Terry, Cody, Candice, Ashley, Mercedes, Drue, Ashlin, Lane, Kaleb, Nicholas, five great-grandchildren Hannah, Lexi, Brayley, Kaden, and Gage.
Wake Services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, at 1015 N. Main Street, Seminole. Memorial Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at Gleaners Holiness Church, with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.
Our Dad was not only a WWII Veteran, but also a devoted husband, father, grandfather. He was loved by all that knew him and will be greatly missed. " We Love and Miss You Grandpa."

George Hensley, Jr.
Former Wewoka resident George Hensley Jr., age 89, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 in Holdenville.
He was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Okmulgee, to George W. and Beulah (Gill) Hensley. He graduated from Wewoka High School, in 1937. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Elks, and Masonic Lodges
George served in the U.S. Army from March 18, 1941 to Oct. 18, 1945, and again during the Korean War from Sept. 26, 1950 to Aug. 8, 1951, as a Master Sergeant.
On May 1, 1944 he married Kathryn "Kay" Meredith in Topeka, Kan.
Hensley retired on May 23, 1975 after more than 34 years of government service with 29 years of service with the Bureau of Reclamation, joining them in 1945. He organized and developed policies and procedures for these activities for the vast Colorado River Storage Project power system, when it was established in 1963.
For his achievements in the administrative support functions for major reclamation programs, Hensley received the Superior Service Award of the Department of the Interior on Oct. 29, 1973.
He was involved with the preliminary work on the legislation leading up to the incorporation of the city of Page.
Preceding George in death are his parents; wife, Kay; and brother, Noble Hensley.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert Hensley, of Wewoka, Bill, of Hominy, Lin Hensley, of Wewoka; sisters, Juanita Summers, of Collinsville, and Shirley Tucker of Stillwater.
Funeral services are pending with Crippin Funeral Home, in Montrose, Colo., with Military Honors.
Ricky Hensley
Ricky Lin Hensley went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 4th, 2009.
He was born April 17, 1960, to Lin and Thelma Hensley in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He graduated from Wewoka High School in 1978 and attended Seminole Junior College.
Rick married Patricia Lee Reich on July 25, 1985 and together they raised two children Nickey Lin and Hannah Lee. Rick was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, and friend. He dedicated many years to the community through work in the convenient store business.
Rick left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Those who knew him best knew him as "Slick Rick" or " Tricky Ricky." He volunteered many hours at Wewoka Elementary assisting his wife, where he was infamously known and loved as "Mr. Rick." He was admired and deeply loved by his aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and especially by his many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Louise Hensley and mother-in-law, Evelyn Mae Reich.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; two children, Nickey and Hannah; father, Lin Hensley; and numerous aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and nieces, and nephews.
Services for Rick will be held on Tuesday, July 7 at 2 p.m. at the Wewoka Church of Christ with Virgil T. Romine, officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Tony Downey, Rocky Gentry, Nate Hisaw, Richard Jones, Brian Whitlock, and Phillip Whitlock.
Honorary bearers will be: Almon Apley, Millard Epley, Larry Hensley, Tommy Hensley, Ashton Livesay, Austin Livesay, Taul Livesay, and Lance Whitlock.

Dora Hill
Life-long Seminole County resident Dora "Tootsie" May Hill, 57, has gone to be with her mom, dad and brothers.
Hill was a loving wife, mom, sister, aunt, grandmother, and dear friend. She was an outgoing lady who helped and loved many, never asking for anything in return.
A leader of her family with a kind, gentle nature, soft-spoken smile, hug and laughter, "Aunt Tootsie" will be greatly missed in the lives of those that she knew and grew to love.
Hill died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at her home, in Seminole. She was born December 4, 1952, to Jimmie (Ozvna) and Nancy Mae (Deere) Carbitcher; they preceded her in death. On November 12, 1971, she married Dave Roman Hill; he survives her of the home.
Hill attended and graduated from Bowlegs High School. Following school; she went on to work 15 years at Blue Bell (Wrangler); 2 years at Sport Support, in Konawa; several years at Justice School; and 3 years at McDonald’s before becoming a homemaker and taking care of her husband.
Hill was a member of Cedar Creek Eufaula Church and was baptized by Marcy Cully. She also belonged to Tallahassee Wvkokaye Ceremonial Ground where she learned to shake shells and make camp. She loved to cook and carried on the Indian ways through her camp and everyday life.
She reared her children in the Bowlegs/Seminole area in the tradition of the Seminole tribal methods. She lived the ways of the Seminole, intermingling her life with that of the world around her.
Hill was a woman of many talents. She loved to sew and took to the Seminole patchwork by making whatever was asked of her, which included shirts, skirts, and vest. Whenever asked by many relatives and friends, she would step up and cook, not complaining, and make sure everyone and everybody had a good cooked meal to eat.
Some of her favorite past times were playing with her grandchildren and attending their many school and extracurricular activities. She enjoyed teaching them the Seminole language and customs of their ancestors. She also loved to watch OU Football and wrestling with the family.
Seminole tribal customs will be followed for Hill’s funeral services and burial. She will be taken to her home at 515 S. Harvey Rd., in Seminole. Wake services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2009 until burial on Thursday.
She will be moved to the Cedar Creek Eufaula Church on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 9 am., with services at 1 p.m. Hill will be laid to rest following the services in the Jimmie Carbitcher Family Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, with Rev. Dorsey Nero, Rev. Jimpsey Harjo and Houston Tiger officiating the services. Rev. Dorsey Nero, traditional speaker, will officiate the graveside services.
Survivors include her husband, Dave "Roman" Hill, of the home; three daughters and son-in-law, Sally "Tooter" and Jason Brauning, Sasakwa, Natasha "Tasha" Hill and Kristy Hill, Seminole; four sons and daughter-in-laws, Michael "Rabbit" Hill and Bea Fry, Henryetta, Jack Hill, Seminole, Isaac and Alana Hill, Ada, Davy "Buffalo" Hill and Sheena Smith, Paden.
Hill left behind 19 grandchildren, Wynter "Mockingbird" Summer "Mye’ke" and Marion "Chebon" Wind and Christian "Hoktuce" Brauning, all of Sasakwa, Alesha Hill, Sasakwa, Gavin and Jared Hill, Seminole, Lindsey Nicole Dennison, Kellyville, Elijiah "Sioux", Dominic "Winnie", Hannah "Triple H", Isaac Jack "Old Man" Hill, all of Ada, Koby Matthew Hill, Bowlegs, Daven "Chunda" Darrin "Chubby", Dallon Hill, all of Shawnee, Riley "Abella", Chloie "Clara" Hill, both of Paden, JonJon "Possum" Arredondo, Seminole.
Other survivors include three brothers, Freeland "Rusty" Carbitcher, Stroud, Jimpsey "Boggey" Carbitcher, Wetumka, and Cooky "Toby" Carbitcher, Bowlegs; five sisters and brother-in-laws, Pat Larney, Shawnee, Betty Jean "Tina" and Gene Wahweah, El Reno, Marina "Tolley" and Roger Butler, Bowlegs, Serena "DoDo" and Dewayne Scott, Seminole and Nettie "B-girl" and David W. Haney Sr., of Seminole.
She also leaves behind sister-in-law Lillie Yargee, Checotah, brother-in-laws, Jacob Hill, Henryetta, Josie Hill, Sapulpa, Billy Hill, Dustin and Special Friends Sam "Pau’wv" Proctor, Okmulgee, Liz Proctor, Okmulgee and Amy Williams, Okmulgee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many, many friends.
Those who precede Hill in death are her grandparents; dad, Jimmie (Ozvna) Carbitcher; mom, Nancy Mae (Deere) Carbitcher; two brothers, Monroe Carbitcher, and Younger "Sonny" Carbitcher; mother-in-law, Mary Hill, father-in-law, Jack Isaac Hill and brother-in-law Benji Hill.
Pallbearers include Scotty Harjo, Brandon Harjo, Curtis Harjo, William "Chuck" Proctor, Wendall Rescke and Rueben Proctor.
Honorary Pallbearers are David Proctor, Gene Wahweah, Alex Alvarez, Jason "Goat" Harley, Jason Brauning, Richard "LuLu" Williamson and Ethan Bell.
Gerald Hill
Well known Seminole County resident and Wewoka businessman Gerald Van Hill, age 81, passed away Sunday evening May 31, 2009, at his residence after a short illness.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at First Baptist Church, in Wewoka, with Rev. John Wheeler officiating and assisted by Rev. Michael Vallandingham.
Gerald Van Hill was born at home, July 14, 1927 in Sylvan, Oklahoma.
He was the son of Virgil Hill and Ruby Chloe (Scott) Hill. Virgil, his, father, was born in Indian Territory in what later became Seminole, County. Gerald was reared on a farm in the Strother community. He attended a two-room school until their move to Wewoka, around 1937.
He graduated from Wewoka High School in 1945. He and his wife, Shirley (Trinkle) Hill were married in Wewoka, February 11, 1949 and made their home in Wewoka. From this union two children, Darrell Wayne and Barbara Lynn were born. They have been blessed with five grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters and one great grandson.
Gerald has had three careers, at the age of 15 he started working for Jones Lumber and worked there until 1966, while working there he drew many plans for homes built in Wewoka. He worked for Henry’s Furniture Store in Seminole from 1966 to 1974.
In July of 1974 Gerald came back to Wewoka and bought Criswell Insurance Agency and later bought Mainard, Weston, and Crittendon Agencies. He retired in 1994 from Gerald Hill Insurance Agency.
He has been active in the First Baptist Church of Wewoka where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for well over sixty years. He has been the "Voice of the Tiger" at the home football games for thirty-eight years. He coached Little League Football and Baseball and was president of PTA for Wewoka Elementary School.
Gerald was very active in the community serving as President of the Alumni Association, Wewoka Lions 1978-1979. He served on various local boards with the Lions, later receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions International, which is the highest award the Lions give.
He served with the Wewoka Industries, Seminole County Adjustment Board. He participated in 1966 Wewoka 's Centennial Celebration, and was chairman of Bi-Centennial Celebration in1976. He was a member of Gideons organization for many years. He taught Sunday school since 1950 in the Intermediate Dept, Young Adults and later the Adult 3 Mens Class and became a deacon of First Baptist Church September 24, 1950.
Golf was very high on his list of things to do along with his efforts of writing and working in his woodwork shop. Gerald was named Wewoka's 2004 Citizen of the Year.
Preceding him in death are his parents and two sisters Elaine Floyd and Joyce Jean Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the Wewoka; son, Darrell Wayne and wife Julie, of Viroqua, Wis.; daughter, Barbara and husband Tommy Herman, of Bristow; grandchildren, Erin Hill, of River Falls, Wis., Brian Hill, of La Cross, Wis., and Haley Alvarez; daughters, Kinadey, Dalaney and Karley Jane, of Sapulpa; Chad and wife Katy and son Cash, of Bristow, OK and Brett, of Vinita; two sisters June Brawner and Loretta Moore, of Shawnee; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Roy Hines
Lifelong Seminole county resident Roy Monroe Hines passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at home at the age of 66.
He was born on September 8, 1942 in Seminole to James Leslie and Stella Mae (Standerfer) Hines. He worked in the oilfield as a tool pusher until his retirement.
He loved to fish and play dominoes with his friends. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed being at the lake.
He married Maxine Hines in February of 1963 and she preceded him in death on September 14, 2002.
He is survived by four daughters; Cecilia Ann Hines of Seminole, Paula Denise Lester of McAlester, Sonya Ranae Coffman of Seminole, and Lesley Michelle Hines of Seminole; brother, Robert Ellery Hines of Texas; sister, Virginia Patrick of Seminole; two sisters-in-law; Carol Hines of Seminole and Hilda Hines of California. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Stella Hines; wife, Maxine Hines; and three brothers, James, Clarence and Earl Hines.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Charles Lester and James Williams officiating.
Pallbearers will be Roger Coleman, Jesse Williams, Jason Cross, John King, Jeffery Hines, and Joe Bob Clower.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.
