Janiece Huggler

Seminole resident Pauline Janiece "Jan" Hensley Huggler, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the age of 86.

She was born in a log cabin on her family's farm in Bearden, Oklahoma on Dec. 16, 1922 to Luther and Russie Hensley.

After graduating from High School, Jan attended the University of Oklahoma for one year before going to work at the Douglas Aircraft Plant. From there, she joined the Army Air Corp and was stationed at Tinker Air Base as part of the hospital staff. In 1946, she returned to the University of Oklahoma as a pre-med student, she then decided to move north to Chicago to attend Northwestern Dental School where she met her husband Dr. Judson Huggler.

Jan and Judd were married January 1, 1948 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Jan graduated from Northwestern in May 1948 with a Registered Dental Hygienist degree, and went on to work for the State of Illinois Training School for Boys.

The Hugglers moved to Seminole, Okla. in 1951 where they opened a dental practice on Main St. Jan helped run the practice until 1980 when Judd retired.

Jan was member of the First United Methodist Church, of Seminole, for over 50 years and United Methodist Women, as well as the Seminole Duplicate Bridge Club at the Senior Center.

Jan is survived by her son, Peter Huggler III, of Seminole; grandson, Peter Huggler IV, of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Colby Huggler, of Dallas, Texas; and great grandson Tristan Huggler, of Dallas, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Russie Hensley; husband, Dr. Judson Huggler; sons, Thomas Huggler and John Huggler.

Her memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, of Seminole.

Fletcher Hulsey

Fletcher Delane Hulsey, age 44, of Porum, Oklahoma, formerly of Hugo, Oklahoma, died on Friday, October 2, 2009, in Tulsa, OK.

Fletcher was born November 8, 1964, in Hugo, Oklahoma, the son of Willis and Nellie (Potts) Hulsey. He had lived in the Hugo area most of his life. He married Laurie Smith at Robbers Cave two months ago. Fletcher had worked as a firefighter, EMT for 17 years and was an EMT Instructor. He also did concrete work for Ed Bates and Paul Howser in construction and also worked at the Prater-Lampton-Mills and Coffey Funeral home.

Fletcher began his career as a volunteer fireman in Rattan, Oklahoma. He became a First Responder and went on to get his EMT-B. He then moved and began working at Wewoka Fire/EMS. While at Wewoka he got his EMT-Intermediate. He also got his Fire Fighters I & II. Fletcher continued to grow in his knowledge and became an instructor in several areas. He then moved back to the Hugo area where he worked for a number of years at the Hugo Fire Department as an EMT and a firefighter. Fletcher then went to work for Southwest EMS and eventually moved to Eufaula and began employment with the Okmulgee County EMS where he worked until his death. Fletcher continually strived to share his knowledge and teach those around him.

He dedicated his life to serving his community. Fletcher was a loving father, caring husband and was a caring and giving person. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to do for others, without the thought of getting anything in return. He worked tirelessly to help those in need.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Brandy Hulsey; his father, Willis Hulsey; and his stepson, Cody Record.

Fletcher is survived by his wife, Laurie Hulsey, of the home; son, Fletcher Hulsey Jr., of Antlers; two daughters, Christina Hulsey and husband, Brant Dees of Rich Hill, Mo. and Courtney Hulsey, of Antlers; his mother, Nellie Hulsey, of Hugo; one brother, Benny Hulsey and his wife Tonya, of Idabel; two sisters, Susan Heft, of Sawyer and Delana Shannon, of Hugo; two step-sons, Gavin Record and Cage Record; sister-in-law, Chandra Buss and her husband, David; his partner at work, Mike Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

T.J. Hunter

T.J. Hunter, 75 years of Sasakwa, passed away Sunday September 27, 2009 at home with his wife (Pamela Hurst Hunter) at his side, after a long battle with cancer.

T.J. was born September 8, 1934 in Oklahoma City, to Clayton Ward Hunter and Rachel Inez Horton Hunter, both who died when he was four years old. He was raised by his Aunt Pearl Jane Hunter at the Sasakwa farm.

Mr. Hunter attended Culley School and Sasakwa High School. He started working for Logan Drilling CO. at the age of sixteen and worked two years there. He served in the US Army during the Korean War in 1952 serving in the 598th Airborne Paratroopers. In 1955 T.J. returned to Sasakwa and attended College at East Central University, in Ada, and also University of Oklahoma, in Norman.

T.J. formed his first company, and owned several companies throughout his lifetime including Hunter Industrial Services, which was in operation at the time of his passing.

One of T.J.'s hobbies was flying and caring for his own planes.

His second love was working the farm where he retired in 2007.

The farm, which is Choctaw Indian land, has been in his family since 1904.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and aunt.

Survivors include his wife Pamela (Hurst) Hunter of 23 years; sister Hazel Stubbs of Broken Arrow; children Cynthia Kiper and husband Kyle of New Richey, Fla.; Allison (Jan) Drewery and husband Banks of Matthews, N.C.: Jon Hunter and wife Paula, of Pittsburg, Kan.: Kassidi Beatty and husband Robert II of Wichita Kan, and Krista Moix and husband Jason of Conway, Ark.; grandchildren, Rachelle (Robbie) Sale and husband Eric, Crystal Clark and Clayton Clark all of Fayetteville, Ark.; Robert Beatty III (Bobby) and Andrew Beatty, both of Wichita, Kan., Jon Hunter II and Jakob Hunter both of Pittsburg, Kan., great-grandchildren, Amber Sale, Lindsey Sale, and Allie Sale all of Fayetteville, Ark.; father in law Don Hurst of Shawnee, and mother in law Delores Hurst, of Dale, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Sasakwa Baptist Church with Pastor Ed White officiating and burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Wilma Hunter

Wilma Jean Hunter, wife of Dr. Cal Hunter, long time pastor of Southern Baptist Churches, in Oklahoma, and retired Director of Missions for Northwestern Baptist Association in Woodward, died peacefully at 6 a.m., March 23, at Midwest City Regional Hospital.

She was surrounded by family holding her hands, weeping, yet rejoicing as the end of this life’s struggle came to an end, and she is now home with the Lord and reunited with family and friends who preceded her.

She is survived by her husband, Cal, of Shawnee; two sons, Mike, of Owasso and Rick, of Prague; two grandsons, Jason and Jon, both living in Atlanta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Mendi, of Norman and Kathryn, a student at Oklahoma Baptist University. She also leaves six great grandchildren; one brother, Stanley Jamison, of Midwest City; two sisters, Alma Holland, of Choctaw, and Shirley Sexton, of Konawa, and one adopted sister, Holly Harrison, of Comanche, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at Highway Baptist Church, located in Little, Oklahoma, Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 1 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, send contributions to the mission fund of Highway Baptist Church, Seminole, Oklahoma.

Jimmie Hurst

Jimmie Louise (Pittman) Hurst, 89 year-old, longtime Maud resident, passed from this life, Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Seminole Estates Care Center, in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was born August 31, 1920 in Burkburnett, Texas to parents James and Caroline (Burris) Pittman. The Pittman family moved to the Maud area during the oil boom because Jimmie’s father was a rig builder. She attended school at Bowlegs and Carr City Schools.

She married J.C. Hurst on September 1, 1938, in Seminole, Oklahoma. They settled in the Carr City area where the raised cattle and J.C. was a driller in the oil industry. In 1959 they purchased a farm south of Maud and after living in Maud for several years they built a home on their farm where they eventually moved to in 1988.

Jimmie worked as a field representative for Action Inc. for over 25 years before her retirement. She was also a former member of the Maud Round-up Club, the Maud Historical Society, and the Maud Chamber of Commerce. She and J.C. raised registered Angus cattle and were lifetime members of the American Hereford, American Angus and Oklahoma Cattle Association. Jimmie was also a founding member of the Maud Nutrition Center. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star in Maud.

Jimmie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Phyllis Hurst of Houston, Texas, Bob and Norma Hurst of Maud, Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Lance Guinn of Konawa, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Gonslee and wife Thelma Pittman of San Angelo, Texas, and J.C. Pittman of Palestine, Texas; 1 sister, Billie Snyder of Houston, Texas; ten grandchildren, Neal Hurst, Tony Hurst, Paul Hurst, Tim Hurst, John Hurst, Robyn Hurst, Kelly Hurst, Kim Lassabe, Tyrel Guinn and Amy Guinn; 20 great grandchildren, Brad Hurst, Lacey and husband Richard Binderup, Brandon Hurst, Megan Hurst, Brittany and husband David Fox, Jessica Hurst, Warren Cleary, Hayden Cleary, Ethan Guinn, Jeffery Stallings, Cassie Martin, Crystal Perez, Ray Navarro, Joey Hurst, Melissa Williams, Shelby Hurst, Skylynn Hurst, J.R. Hurst, Brittany Hurst and Holli Hurst; 9 great-great grandchildren, Robert Hurst, Tyler Hurst, Emilee Binderup, Madison Hurst, Lacey Hurst, Lillie Williams, Aryana Hurst, Morgan Hurst and Jakayla Hurst; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Hurst of Hockley, Texas; one brother-in-law, James "Red" Hurst of Grove, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Jewel Osborn, of Seminole, Oklahoma and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rocky and pearl Bayne of Gulfport, Mississippi; Jimmie is also survived by a host of other dear family and friends.

Jimmie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband J.C. Hurst who died on September 16, 1993; one son, Raymon Hurst who died on June 24, 2006; one sister-in-law, Jean Hurst; one daughter-in-law, Jo Carol Hurst in 2008; twin great-great grandchildren Skyler and Tyler Hurst; one sister Elsie Ray, Juanita Stiles, Viola Hall, one brother, Louis "Bo" Pittman.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2009 at the People’s Church in Maud, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.

Brodey Isham

Brodey Hotvlke Isham, of Holdenville died March 11, 2009. He was born Feb. 4, 2009.

Surviving him are his mother and stepfather, Loda Isham and Edwin Deere, of Holdenville; sister, Mallorie Wise Talamasey, of Seminole; stepbrothers, Darryl Deere and Caleb Deere; two stepsisters, Staci Deere and Chelsea Deere; grandparents, Glen and Penny Isham and step grandparents, Jerry Deere, all of Holdenville and Nora Jacobs, of Wewoka.

Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2009, 2 p.m. at Many Springs Baptist Church south of Holdenville. Interment followed in the George Family Cemetery. Rev. Glen Kernell was the officiating minister.

Services are under direction of Fisher Funeral Home, of Holdenville.

Geraldine Island

Longtime Seminole resident Geraldine Island passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 86.

She was born on November 11, 1922 in Seminole to Dewey Humby and Ethel (Bowleg) Humby.

She married Woodrow Island on February 28, 1942 in Seminole.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law; Woodrow Island, Jr. and Jami of Midwest City, and Steven Island of Seminole, two daughters and a son-in-law: Verna Hearn and husband Cleo of Lancaster, Texas and Shirley Williams of Seminole.

She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Ethel Humby, her husband Woodrow Island, three sisters, one brother and one grandson.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens located East of Seminole on Highway 270 with Bobby Curry and J.C. Simpson officiating.

Casket Bearers will be her grandson’s and honorary bearer will be Marc Anthony Williams.

Shirley James

Wewoka resident Shirley Jean James, age 73, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Oklahoma City.

She was born Feb. 12, 1936 in Johnson Grove, to Orange Carolina and Ella V. Sandridge. She was a graduated from Douglas High School in 1955. She retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 27 years of service.

James was a member of St. Joseph Baptist Church, of Wewoka and Co-Queen of the Westside Red Hat Divas, of Oklahoma.

She is survived by her children, Melvin W. James, Thomas James, Ella Virgina James, and Angelia M. Washington; nine grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Iverson Nichols, and Oliver Cooper; granddaughter.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the First Baptist Church, in Wewoka. Burial to follow at Westwood Cemetery, with Rev. B.G. Renfro and Rev. Clarence officiating.

Ruth Jeffery

Former Wewoka resident Ruth (Roberts) Jeffery, age 101, passed peacefully away and went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 10, 2009.

She was born Aug. 28, 1907, in Crowel, Texas, to Thomas J. and Jennie Mae Carroll. They moved to Seminole County soon after.

Ruth was next to the oldest of six sisters. Ruth was a member of the Church of Christ, Wewoka. She enjoyed sewing, writing, reading the Bible and helping to take care of her nieces and nephews.

Ruth had no biological children, but claimed a host of nieces and nephews as her own. She loved the Lord and was a daily Bible reader for all of her adult life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Riley Roberts and Fred Jeffery; five siblings Ethyl Winebarger, Edith Roberts, Lena Trauhber, Willie Lee Eubanks, and Alta Dyer.

Pallbearers will be Jim Richmond, Steve Richmond, Ed Winebarger, Jim Taylor and Tony Edmondson.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Little Cemetery.

Albert Johnson

Seminole resident Albert Henry Johnson, age 80, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at his home. He was born June 22, 1929, in LaHunta, Colo., to Edward and Flora (Johnson) Johnson.

He moved to Seminole four months ago from California. He was employed as a Carpenter for Mead Mount Construction where he retired in 1975.

He married Bernadette Eralia (Gareva) Johnson on June 26, 1950, in Ratan, N.M.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Albert Edward Johnson, of Seminole, and Kenneth James Johnson, of Seminole; sister, Margie Rivale, of Trinidad, Colo.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billie Johnson; and sisters, Mary Norman and Rose Johnson.

The family will hold private memorial at a later date.

Cremation services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Capp Johnson

Capp Johnson, formerly of Seminole and graduate of Varnum High School died Sunday, April 19 2009 in Carmichael, Calif. He was born May 6, 1927 north of Seminole. Many knew him as Junior Johnson.

He married Bobbie M. Miller in March 1945, and was drafted into the U.S. Army just after High School graduation. He was an Army career man and served his country for 22 years. He went to Germany with the first occupation forces and was a paratrooper while in Germany. He also served in Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor.

After retirement he worked at Fort Bliss, Texas and moved to Southern Oregon in 1983. Interment was at the Sacramento Valley VA National cemetery, in Calif.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years; son, Robert Johnson, of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Jane Hodgkins, of Rancho Cordova, Calif. and Maggie Stark, of Gold River, Calif.; sister, Dorothy Schiller, of Seminole; and brother Howard Johnson, of Sallisaw.
