Shawnee resident Richard Tommy Rainey, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 30, 2008.
He was born July 2, 1931, in Oklahoma City, to Tommy Floyd Rainey and Pearl Parsons Rainey. He was raised in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and Wyoming while his father worked for Service Pipeline.
The family settled in Shawnee in 1945 where he attended middle school and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1949. Richard went to work for Sun Oil CO. in 1955 and retired after 34 years of service. In 1952 Richard served with the National Guard 45th Division and was a Military Police.
He married Novella Sue Hill-Fry in December, of 1953. He was later married to Ruth Northcutt, on Nov. 23, 1977.
Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge #107, a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, in Shawnee, and had been a member of Seminole Congregational Methodist Church.
His hobbies included fishing, water skiing, riding a Harley Motorcycle and traveling in his R.V.
His survivors include his wife, Ruth Rainey, of the home; children, Steven Richard Rainey and wife Linda, of Weatherford, Texas and Jana Sue Jacobs and husband Carl, of Shawnee; 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Amanda, Michael, B.J., and Nathan; 5 great-grandchildren, Spencer, Chaley, Sierra, Ocean, and Gracie; and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Floyd Rainey; and grandson, Noah Shirey
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at Walker Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kay Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at the Fairview Mausoleum.
Albert Ramey
Albert "Ray" Ramey, 79 year-old, lifelong Seminole County resident died Monday, August 24, 2009 at his home in Earlsboro.
He was born May 21, 1930 in Seminole to parents Robert Ramey and Effie (Hale) Ramey.
Ramey had served in the United States Army where he earned the rank as Sergeant.
He was awarded with the following commendations; CIB; Purple Heart; Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.
He received the Purple Heart after he was wounded in action in Korea in March of 1951.
Ramey had worked as a truck driver.
He married Evelyn Williams on April 18, 1974 in Paris, Texas.
He was a member of the Seminole Assembly of God Church. Ray was also a member of the American Legion in Seminole.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Williams) Ramey of the home; one son, Royce Ramey of Harrah; two daughters, Bobbie Ramey of Grand Lake, and Ginger Hulsey of Luther; one brother, E.T. Ramey of Eufaula; two sisters, Melinda Self of Seminole, and Alta Duncan of Sulphur; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and by four brothers.
Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.
Michael Ramsey
Our beloved father, son, and brother Michael James Ramsey, 44, passed peacefully from this world at his home in Earlsboro.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1964, in Shawnee, to Donald and Alta Ramsey. He graduated from Tecumseh Public Schools and was employed as a contractor most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Survivors include his parents; three daughters, Alicia Pierce, Ashley Ramsey, and Amanda Ramsey; brother, Carl Ramsey and wife Kay; nephew, Dustin Ramsey and wife Lacretchia and son Adrian; and granddaughter, Kaelyn Vance.
He was a big guy with an even bigger heart who loved his daughters, his family, his friends, and his dogs.
A celebration of Life Memorial is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Sharon Baptist Church Gymnasium, in Tecumseh.
His life was truly a blessing and he will be missed by many.
Carolyn Raper
Carolyn Rae (Jolly) Raper, age 72, of Konawa, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Sterling House Nursing home, in Ada.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at the Church of Christ, in Konawa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa. Burial will follow in Konawa Cemetery. Richard Winters will officiate and Floyd Kaiser will assist.
She was born March 30, 1936, in Lindsay, to Alfred F. Jolly and Emma (Simmons) Jolly. She married Karl Raper on Jan. 20, 1963, in. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ, in Konawa, and she was a Bible schoolteacher and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Konawa Extension Homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Blake Raper, of Stillwater; two daughters, Camille Howard, of Ada and Gayla Barrick, of Ponca City; sister, Pat Boland, of Grand Prairie, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Emma Jolly; husband, Karl Raper, on Aug. 8, 2005; and brother, Jack Jolly.
Marianne Ray
Wewoka resident Marianne L. Ray, age 74, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Wewoka Nursing Home, in Wewoka.
She was born Jan. 29, 1935, to parents Calvin and Lillian Mayberry, in Alameda, Ca.
She is survived by her son, Richard L. Zellner, of North Carolina; daughters, Kathy L. Zellner Cook, of Branson, Mo., and Peggy L. Zellner Lambertson, of Wewoka; brother, Wilbur Parsons, of Santa Cruz, Ca.; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ray, of Vian; daughter, Margaret A. Zellner Newton, of Vian; and brother, Henry Parsons, of Stockton, Ca.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Vian Garden Memories, of Vian.
Mary Redwine
Mary Helen Allen Redwine died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, in McAlester.
She was born June 4, 1925, in Spaulding, to George Allen and Mattie (Cain) Allen.
She attended twelve years of school at Spaulding, graduating Spaulding High School in 1944. She married and had one daughter and four sons.
When she became a single mom, she attended Ada Vocational Tech School in 1971 and became an LPN. She worked for many years at Wetumka General Hospital and for Dr. William Moore and also Dr. Guy Shy, in Wewoka.
She remarried Jan. 25, 1979, to A. C. Redwine, of Wilburton. They moved to Spaulding in 1984 and resided there until 2007. She retired in 1990 and became active in alumni activities in Spaulding.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth Ray Allen and Billy Don Allen; sister, Merle Allen; and son, Terrance Dwayne Moon.
She is survived by her husband, A. C. Redwine, of McAlester; daughter, Donna Sue Oliver, of Eufaula; sons, Tom Moon, of Richardson, Texas, Tim Moon, of Oklahoma City, and David Moon, of Akron, Ohio; brother, Wayne Allen, of Wewoka; sister, Jewel Dean Allen, of Wewoka; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at Heritage Rock Church, 401 East Main, Holdenville, with Rev. Ray Breeden, of Oklahoma City, officiating. Interment will be at the Little Cemetery.
Services are under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Royce Reed
Funeral Services with military honors will be held for Royce Clyde Reed at 2 p.m. Wed., March 25, 2009, at Bethel Cemetery located on County Road 1876 South of Odem Texas.
Reed, 93, went to be with the Lord on Sat., March 21, 2009 at his home near Odem.
Reed was born Sept. 30, 1915, in Skidmore, Texas to Ezekiel Clyde Reed and Ninon (Williams) Reed. He lived in the Odem area all his life.
On Dec. 24, 1937, in Laredo, Texas, he married Della Gyrene Lewallen. Four daughters were born to that union.
Reed attended Odem Public Schools, and obtained his associates degree from Texas A & M at College Station and was inducted jointly with his wife into the Odem-Edroy ISD Hall of Fame in 2000.
Besides his small farming, beef cattle, and goat operation, he worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad for several years, was a builder, and was employed by the Odem-Edroy ISD as building trades instructor until his retirement.
During WWII, Reed served with the tank destroyers for the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands. He was a charter and active member of VFW Post 8916, in Odem, later transferring to Mathis Texas Post 3079 serving in several capacities including District Commander.
Reed became a Christian at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church, of Odem. He enjoyed the outdoors, was always interested in people, and taught the love of reading to all his daughters.
He knew every Harry Potter character and looked forward to the publication of each book. His family was a high priority in his life.
For several months he and his wife lived for a time in Seminole and daily enjoyed the fellowship at Heritage House Senior Citizens Center.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Terry Jay Reed; and two sons-in-law, Sammy Fuller and John Scarberry.
A large family and many friends survive Reed. They include his wife of 71 years; 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Della Ninon and Johnny Carson, of Wills Point Texas, Gyrene and Steve Osgood, of Arlington Texas, Kay Scarberry, of Bowlegs, Jan and Charles Vickers, of Odem, and Maria de la Cruz, of Odem; sister, Claire (Reed) Curbello, of Showlow Ariz., brother-in-law, Jesse (Vera) Lewallen, of Houston, Texas and sister-in-law, Audrey (Lewis) Jenkins, of League City, Texas. His grandchildren are Royce Fowler, Michelle (Kevin) Smith, Laura Poepschke, Paul (Amy) Fuller, Tylene (Bruce) Galinet, Bruce (Jennifer) Osgood, Sandra (Mike) Atyia, Cherry (Terry) Howard, Lt. Col. Benjamin (Sue) Higginbotham, Joseph Higginbotham, and Jan Elizabeth (Leighton) Stovall.
His great-grandchildren are Tyler Poepschke, Kayla Poepschke, Conner Smith, Davis Smith, Jake Fuller, Reed Fuller, Bailey Galinet, Decker Galinet, Alexandra Osgood, Georgie Osgood, Parker Osgood, Kyle Atyia, Johnnie (Alison) Atyia, Lee Howard, Victoria (Trent) Goodwin, Angel Howard, Gabriel Howard, Jaydon Howard, Elizabeth Higginbotham, Hannah Higginbotham, Katherin Higginbotham, Jennifer Mokshefsky, Jonathan Higginbotham, Zachary Stovall, Kaleb Stovall, Sarah Elizabeth Stovall.
His great-great grandchildren are Riley Poetschke, Cooper Atyia, and Breann Goodwin.
Pallbearers will be Royce Fowler, Paul Fuller, Benjamin Higginbotham, Joseph Higginbotham, Troy Simon, and Alan Halepaska.
Honorary bearers will be members of Mathis VFW Post 3079.
A family visitation will be held Tues. Mar. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home, 120 S. McCall, Sinton Texas.
The family wishes to thank Bob, Rosie, Ben, Kathy, and Stephanie and other personnel of Odyssey Hospice and the staff of Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home for their loving care and support.
Services will be under the direction of Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in Sinton, Texas. Rev. Floyd Conner of AR will officiate.
Joe Reed
Shawnee resident Joe H. Reed, age 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Reed was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Lone Grove, to David and Mary (Bratcher) Reed.
He attended East Central University, in Ada. He married Margaret H. Rees (Smyers) Nov. 25, 1955, in Maysville.
Reed served in the Army and was a public school Band Director. He was a member of Gideon’s, of Shawnee; Kiwanis, of Seminole; and Toast Masters, of Seminole.
He was inducted into the Oklahoma Band Directors Hall of Fame, in 1979. Reed was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Margaret; two sons, Michael Reed and wife Tracy and Jody Reed and wife Michelle; six grandchildren, Sydney, Colby, Marley, Kylee, Michael Dawson, and Mallory Reed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don.
Juanita Reynolds
Juanita Reynolds passed away peacefully in her home on Friday evening, Jan. 15, 2009.
Juanita Ruth Kinnamon was born on Aug. 1, 1929, to Walter and Gertrude Kinnamon, in Seminole. Juanita attended Seminole Schools, graduating in 1947. She began studying piano at age five and continued until college, majoring in piano performance at Oklahoma Baptist University. During her time at OBU, she began courting Jack Reynolds, and they were married on June 3, 1949.
Jack and Juanita’s early years together were filled with adventures living in numerous places due to Jack’s career in the oilfield. All of their three children were born in different states. Wherever they lived Juanita would set up housekeeping, find a church home and make many new friends.
In 1964, Juanita and her family moved back to Oklahoma where they began a new business adventure on Lake Tenkiller, at the Standing Rock Motel and Store. The family enjoyed running this business and living on the lake. During this time Juanita earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
In 1970, Juanita and Jack moved back to their hometown of Seminole, where Juanita began her career as a first grade teacher at Roosevelt and Wilson Schools. She loved teaching children how to read, and developed lasting friendships with her colleagues. Always striving to be a better teacher, she earned her master’s degree from Central State University in 1980.
Juanita was an active and committed member of the First Baptist Church. She taught the Fifth Grade Sunday School, frequently played the piano for various meetings and functions, was a member of the bell choir and helped organize many funeral dinners. The Church will miss her greatly.
Juanita loved spending time with her family and showed enthusiastic pride in her grandchildren. Wonderful holiday dinners were her specialty. She enjoyed her ladies bridge group and the fellowship of her many friends.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her son, Stephen Reynolds.
She is survived by her loving husband, of 59 years, Jack; her daughter, Holly Frazier and husband Keith; son, Mark Reynolds; daughter-in-law Sherry Reynolds; grandchildren, Andrew Reynolds, Kimberly Reynolds, Sommer Frazier, Mackenzie Frazier, and Carly Frazier. She is also survived by her niece, Naomi Mastro Giovanni and family.
The memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, of Seminole at 2 p.m. Monday the Jan. 9, 2009.
