Myrna Teague

Myrna Louise Sanderson Teague was born September 8, 1940 in her grandparents’ home in Dillard, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of (Mary) Jeanette Roberts Sanderson and Luther Leland Sanderson.

Myrna was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February of 2008 and while cancer may have won the battle for her body, she won the war of the spirit. She joined her father, her husband, Samuel DeWayne Teague, and her son, Phillip Wayne Inman, in heaven, on October 29, 2009.

Myrna lived with her parents in Chickasha, Oklahoma until she was four years old when the family moved to Wewoka, Oklahoma where she resided for many years. She attended Wewoka Public Schools and earned her cosmetology license from Shawnee Beauty School, in 1958. While living in Wewoka, she worked as a unit secretary at Holdenville Hospital and was co-owner of House of Carpets. She also worked for her friend, Bert Rice, at Ann's Lady's Ready-to-Wear, in Wewoka. In 1977, Myrna joined the Seminole yard of Dowell as a dispatcher and subsequently earned her Drilling Fluids Engineering Certificate from Seminole Junior College. She was then transferred to the El Reno yard where she was one of two women nationally who worked in the field as a mud engineer. She also worked for the Oklahoma City Piper Airplane dealership at Wiley Post Airport in the early 1980’s.

Myrna moved to Midland-Odessa, Texas in 1985, where she was employed with the FDIC and Yale E. Key Energy Services. In 1999, Myrna moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico where she and husband DeWayne Teague owned and operated the Winner's Inn Motel.

After DeWayne passed away, Myrna made a home with her mother, Jeanette, in Flower Mound, Texas and, beginning in 2005, in Norman, Oklahoma. Myrna was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and had recently attended services at Goodrich Memorial United Methodist (Norman) and Noble United Methodist Church, but her heart and her membership still remains with Chinn's Chapel United Methodist Church in Copper Canyon Texas, a church whose founding membership included her great grandparents, the Little Family of Bartonville, Texas.

Myrna was beautiful and stylish, inside and out. She was smart and wryly funny and the most efficient and reliable person most of us will ever know. She was an exceptionally good friend, and those who were lucky enough to be counted among her intimates were blessed by her kindness, her strength, her loyalty, her thoughtfulness, and her compassion.

Myrna raised her children with discipline and love, modeling for them the virtues of devotion, responsibility and duty, instilling in them a work ethic that is a pale imitation of her own, and gifting them with an unshakeable belief in the importance of family ties.

She was a loving daughter, oftentimes sacrificing her own comfort and interests for the sake of her parents' well being. As a sister, she was not only a fiercely protective sibling, but also a dear and trusted friend.

Myrna is survived by her daughters, Jeanetta Louise Calhoun Mish and husband Kyran, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Nancy Ellen Mathis Bryant and fiancé Kenny Johnson, of Norman, Oklahoma; her mother, Mary Jeanette Sanderson, of Norman, Oklahoma; her brothers Roger Sanderson, of San Jose, Costa Rica, and Larry Sanderson and wife Linda, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and her grandson Michael Wayne Madron, of Holdenville, Oklahoma. The Roberts and Steele families of Love and Carter Counties were her special cousins, especially Nell, George Ann, and June. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, the Wewoka High School Class of 1958, her friends and neighbors at Fiddler's Green, and her cat, Dolly.

The family, expressing Myrna's sentiments and their own, would like to thank Dr. Joan Walker, Dr. Katherine Moxley, and the clinic's several other doctors as well as the clinic and chemo nurses, the medical students, residents, fellows, and staff of the OU Physicians Gynecological Oncology Clinic and Presbyterian Hospital 7 East for their continuing dedication to the fight against ovarian cancer and for their warmth and compassion during Myrna's tenure in their care.

Services will be held at Primrose Funeral Service, in Norman, on Tuesday, November 3, at 2 p.m.; graveside services will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, in Odessa Texas, on Friday, November 6 at 2 p.m.

A potluck meal will be served at the Fiddler's Green clubhouse (Chautauqua and Heather Glen, Norman) at 12 p.m. on the day of the service and you are invited to join the family for visitation at this time.

Myrna loved flowers and floral tributes are welcome; they may be sent either to Primrose Funeral Service or to Sunset Memory Gardens in Odessa, Texas. Friends and family may also choose to send donations for the aid and comfort of gynecological cancer patients under the care of the OU Physicians Gynecology Oncology Department, Attn: Dr. Joan Walker, 825 NE 10th, Suite 5200, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104.
