Mark A. Thomas, age 49, went to heaven on Dec. 28, 2008. He was born Feb. 27, 1959, in Wewoka, to Jack D. Thomas and Mollie J. Chaney Thomas.
He lived in Dayton, Nev. for the last four years coming from Reno, Nev. He graduated from Wewoka High School in May 1980 and attended college in both East Central University, in Ada, and in Western Nev., Community College, in Carson City, Nev.
He loved all kinds of sports and would have made a great sports broadcaster. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and Elvis enthusiast. In the earlier years of CB radio use, his handle was "Curve Ball". He loved animals and had an optimistic and positive outlook on life.
Mark has joined his mother Mollie Thomas who went to heaven on Aug. 5, 2004.
He is survived by his father, Jack D. Thomas, of Dayton, Nev.; brother, Jay Thomas, of Yukon; sister, Kaye Knight, of Dayton, Nev.; cousins Diane and Brian Rowlette; and uncle AB Chaney, all of Wewoka. He was an uncle and great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Private family service will be held in Nevada.
Nellie Thompson
Funeral services for Seminole resident Nellie Thompson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate.
Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Thompson died Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center in Seminole.
She was born to John and Elizabeth James in Texas County, Missouri on February 16, 1915.
Thompson was a lifelong resident of the Seminole area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Thompson, on May 8, 1970; five brothers; one half-brother; and four sisters.
Thompson is survived by several nieces and nephews and two special friends, Norma Penuel and Donna Stanley.
J.B Thurman
J.B. Thurman, age 81, a Sasakwa resident, died June 17, 2009, at the Clinton Veterans Center, in Clinton.
He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Sasakwa, to the Sammy and Easter (Cudjo) Thurman.
He was affiliated with Thomas Town Baptist Church at an early age, where he served as an honorary deacon for many years.
Thurman served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 and received an honorable discharge. After serving his country, he worked as a carpenter, laborer, farmer, and later for Big Yank as night watchman until his health would no longer permit.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Lee Taylor, of Spencer; brothers, James Thurman, of Oklahoma City and Wallace Thurman, of Sasakwa.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and sisters, Bessie Thurman Warrior, and Bertha Thurman Warrior.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Thomas Town Baptist Church with Reverend Opal Jackson officiating and burial at Thomas Town Cemetery.

Lynn Tiger
Lynn Keith Tiger, age 53, years of Owasso, died Friday, April 10, 2009, in Tulsa.
He was born May 9, 1955, Barney and Imogene Emarthla Tiger.
He was the second to the oldest of four brothers and three sisters. He was an employee of the Asplundh Tree Expert Company. He was a graduate of Holdenville High School and attended Bacone College and Oklahoma University.
He is survived by five daughters and eleven grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, at Cold Springs Church, in Seminole County, with Paul Fixico and Johnny Factor as speakers.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Tiger, Chris Tiger, Dorsey Tiger Jr., Jimmy, Tiger, Johnny Tiger, David Klochr, and Gilbert Beard.
Honorary bearers will be Bud Keesee, Daryl Byerly, Gary Testerman, Wesley Factor, Jerry Lowe, and Jim Stewart.

Richmond Tiger
Lifelong Seminole resident Richmond Jimmie Tiger died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Midwest City, at the age of 81.
He was born on May 17, 1928 in Okmulgee to Benjamin Tiger and Susie (Lowe) Tiger.
On June 7, 1953 he married Elena (Larney) Tiger in Seminole.
He worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a part inspector for 13 years.
In 1978 he was elected Chief of the Seminole Nation Tribe.
After he served as Chief for the Seminole Nation Tribe he worked at the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City and retired in 1981.
He was a former member and president of Strother School Board a Mekuskey Band Member as well as a member of the Hitchitee United Methodist Church.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Corporal in the 45th Division.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Elena Larney Tiger, one son, Charles Tiger of Seminole, three daughters; Regina Tiger of Rockville, Md., Lavonna Tiger of Seminole and Inetta Tiger of Rockville, Md., one sister, Elsie Jean Tecumseh of Henryetta and one grandson, Russell Bear.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Hitchitee United Methodist Church in Seminole with Nelson Scott Harjo and Victor Underwood officiating.
Interment will follow at Hitchitee Church Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Seminole Nation Color Guard.
Casket Bearers will be: Mike Bear, Russell Bear, Bill Larney, Cecil Larney, Kevin Larney and Larry Joe Larney.
Honorary Bearers will be: Jim Davis, Pete Amos, Gary Montgomery, Victor Underwood, Andrew Alexander, Tip Underwood, and Houston Yeager.
Winfred Tinsley
Winfred Keith Tinsley, 87 year-old, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in Seminole.
He was born September 27, 1921 in Anaheim, Calif., to parents John and Belle Tinsley.
On July 25, 1943 he married Florene Alice Guinn in Little.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #833.
He was also the oldest and longest continuous member of the American Legion Huntington Beach Post 133 at 63 years.
Winfred graduated from Huntington Beach Elementary School in 1936 and Huntington Beach Union High School in 1940; while in high school he lettered in track as a hurdler.
After graduation he went to work for Lockheed Manufacturing in Los Angeles, Calif., as a machinist on the Lockheed Hudson Bomber.
With the outbreak of WWII he joined the navy in May of 1942.
After boot camp he was transferred to Norman, Oklahoma where he was part of the opening group of the naval air station.
Before his honorable discharged at San Pedro, Calif., on November 24, 1945 he obtained the rank of Coxswain.
After his discharge he worked for Western American Oil Company in Huntington Beach, Calif.
In 1950 he began work as a custodian and bus driver for Huntington Beach Elementary School.
He retired from the school district in 1975 as Director of Maintenance and Operation for 13 school sites.
He and his wife, Florene, moved to Seminole in the summer of 1979.
He was an avid supporter of Seminole athletics as was especially fond of the Seminole girls track team.
He took thousands of pictures during athletic events, which he gladly gave to the athletes.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack L. Tinsley and his wife Lajuana of Seminole, Ronald Tinsley and his wife Marcie of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Tera Black and her husband Jamie of Mathews, North Carolina, Alison Tinsley of Seminole; one grandson, Shane Tinsley and his wife Tara of Shawnee; great granddaughters, Abbey Tinsley, Rianne Tinsley, Emma Arnold, Haley Black and Cassidy Black; he is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends.
Winfred is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter, Natalie Black.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes contributions be made to the Seminole High School girls’ track team in memory of Winfred Tinsley, P.O. Box 1031, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Seminole.
Dr. Tommy Clark will officiate. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.
Casket Bearers will be: Kenneth Cannon, Duane Erwin, Jim Cantrell, Robert Foxx, Kay Dotson and Herman Ritchie.
Honorary Bearers will be: Cecil Sullivan and the Adult "G" Men's Sunday School Class at Seminole First Baptist Church.
Joan Totty
Longtime Seminole resident Joan M. Totty passed away on Aug. 16, 2009, in Seminole, Oklahoma, at the age of 67.
She was born on June 21, 1942, in Grubbs, Arkansas, to Archie and Nora (Pippenger) Cooper. She was a member of the Harvey Road Baptist Church.
She married Elmer Totty on July 21, 1958 in St. Louis, Illinois, he preceded her in death on January 14, 2008, she is also preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves to cherish her memories; three daughters and sons-in-law: Rebecca and Mike Leach of Bonanza, Arkansas, Judy and Gary Lane of Seminole, Oklahoma, Joanne and Roger Mills of Seminole, Oklahoma, three sisters; Jane Cooper of Oregon, Helen Moore of Kentucky and Pat Thomas of California, two brothers, Jerry Cooper of Arkansas and Bobby Cooper of California. She is also survived by six grandchildren; DeAnna Copeland, Traci Bradley, Kimberly Wilson, Wesley Lane, Derrick Ishman and Heath Ishman, four great grandchildren; Colton Copeland, Connor Copeland, Julian Bradley and Garret Ishman.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be: Roger Mills, Gary Lane, Mike Leach, Derrick Ishman and Heath Ishman.
Eugene Townsend
Eugene "Gene" Townsend, age 91, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Norman Veterans Center, in Norman.
He was born in Konawa, on June 21, 1918, to Everett Townsend and Vertie Mae (Cox) Townsend. In his early adult years, he drove an ambulance and was a mortician’s assistant at Watt’s Funeral Home, in Konawa. He then worked in the oilfield and as a farmer. He served his country in the Army during World War II serving in the Philippines, the Figi Islands and the Solomon Islands. He received the Marksmanship Award. After the service, he began working and traveling for Parker Drilling Company.
On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Leatrice Joy Ramsey, in Konawa. After they moved to Lindsay, in 1962, he worked for Western Propane Company, and then for Western Dozers, Inc.
Upon retirement, Gene began running "Hot-Shot" for Chandler Auto until he entered the Norman Veterans Center.
He was a member of the American Legion and he also supported his wife, daughters and granddaughters in Girl Scouts, setting up and tearing down camps, transporting girls, and selling Girl Scout Cookies. He also supported them by buying, eating and giving cookies to others.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhoda Rutter and Jana Boyce, both of Lindsay, and Cheryl Daniels, of Oklahoma City; brother, Benton Townsend, of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; and six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Green Hill Cemetery, in Lindsay, with Chaplain Danny Daniels officiating. The American Legion Ball Smith Post 23 presented military honors.
Services were under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home, of Lindsay.
