Avery Leon Brooks, Seminole county resident, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home at the age of 71 years.
Brooks, a long time resident of Maud, moved to Seminole 12 years ago.
He was born November 2, 1938 at Maud to parents William Lee and Beulah Belle (Choat) Brooks.
Brooks religion affiliation was non-denominational. He worked for OG&E as a dispatcher and retired 11years ago.
He married Roberta Virginia (Lane) Brooks on August 2, 1958 in Los Angeles, California.
Brooks is survived by his wife, Roberta, of the home; one son, Gary Leon Brooks of Wewoka; three daughters, Sherry Akins, Karen Foster, and Leanne Brooks, all of Seminole.
He is also survived by two brothers; Leroy Brooks of Victorville, California and Donald R. Brooks of Maud; and one sister, Carol Johnson of Maud.
Brooks is survived by eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W. L. and Beulah Brooks; brother, James Ralph Brooks; grandson, Markcus Levi Brooks and granddaughter, Cameron Nicole Depasse.
A Memorial service will be held for Leon at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Cremation service is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
James Brooks
Wewoka Resident James "Jimmy" A. Brooks passed away Thursday, April 15 at the age of 81 in Oklahoma City. Brooks was born Nov. 18, 1928 in Paducah, Ken.
He came to Wewoka at the age of five where he was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Lee and Roberta Howard.
As a young adult, Brooks worked in the oil field and later he began raising cattle. He loved the outdoors, always raising a large garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reid and Mary Pearl Brooks and sister Charlotte.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty L. (Miner) Brooks of the home; daughter Tanna Logan and husband Jeff of Holdenville, daughter Kelly Matteson and husband Chris of Edmond; four grandchildren, Derek, Matthew and Joshua Logan and Peyton Matteson; one great grandchild, Rylee Logan; one sister, Reida Brown of Lewiston, Calif.; sister-in-law June Grimes of Wewoka; a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends that he loved dearly.
A Rosary will be held Sunday, April 18, 2010 6 p.m. at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Service will be Monday April 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. St. Stephens Catholic Church with Father Basil officiating.
Pall Bearers will be Jeremy Howard, James Howard, John Howard, Kenneth Pattison, Clay Chambers, and Johnny Craig Miner.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Ianos Chaffin, And James Griffis.
Jo Ann Brumley
Jo Ann Brumley, age 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, in Davis. She was born March 9, 1928 in Wewoka, to Hal and Mae Belle (Howell) Puckett. She married Alvin "Al" Brumley Apr 18, 1947, in Shawnee.
For many years she worked as a cook at the Falls Creek Baptist Assembly and Camp Classen YMCA Camp. After retiring, Jo Ann became involved with the Foster Grandparent Program and volunteered as a reading tutor at the Davis School.
She is survived by her daughters; Becky Whitehead, of Davis, and Karen Zametz, of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack Puckett, of Hemphill, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Richard Brumley; brothers, Ovril and Levoid Pucket; and sister, Juanita Covington.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan 9, 2010 at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Davis, with Brother Johnny Beckmon and Brother Billy Staggs officiating. Interment to followed in the Green Hill Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Hales Funeral Home, of Davis.
Wanda Bundy
Wanda Lucille (Durham) Bundy, age 72 and former resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Valley View Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, June 11th at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Bruce Crawford will officiate.
Wanda was born on July 26, 1937, in Konawa to William Durham and Emmer (Griffith) Durham. She was a Konawa High School graduate.
She married Willie Bundy and was a member of Silas Missionary Baptist Church of Konawa. Wanda enjoyed traveling and talking to her friends.
She is survived by two sons, Cleve Edgar "Eddie" Bundy of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and William Dewayne Bundy of Ada, Oklahoma; one brother, Harley Durham of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; one sister, Louise Johnson of Duncan, Oklahoma; one niece, Mattie Hunt; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emmer Durham; her husband, Willie Bundy; one brother, Johnny Durham; two sisters, Lilly Cossey and Eva Lee Durham.
Pallbearers are Russell House, Wade House, Larry House, Kenny House, Robbie House, and Waylon Holtman.
Doyle Burnell
Lifetime Wewoka resident Doyle Eugene Burnell age 84 died Monday, March 29, 2010 in Wewoka.
He was born on July 6, 1925 in Wewoka, OK to Harry and Mattie (Young) Burnell.
Gene and his wife Jewell married on August 1, 1943 and remained in Wewoka together for 67 years.
Gene was a pipeline by trade and worked as a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 627 for many years.
His work on the Sportman’s Lake Dam and the Konawa Generating Plant as an equipment operator kept him in the Seminole County area until he took a position as Wewoka Public Works Superintendent for a lengthy time of service until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife Jewell of the home, Son and daughter-in-law Van and Jennifer Burnell. Granddaughter Jackqualyn Grace Burnell and Great-Grandson Rennon Coleman Burnell.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Lloyd and two sisters Lois Azlin and Sandra Parris, Two granddaughters, Vanessa Kay and Julie Ann Burnell.
A private service will be held for Family Members.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Gene's life will be held near Atwood in July where he will be remembered forever by his family and friends.
Jewell Burnell
Lifetime Wewoka resident Emma Jewell Burnell age 84 years, died Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 in Oklahoma City.
Jewell was born on August 2, 1925 in Okemah, OK to Nathan and Mary (Nichols) VanZant.
Jewell and her husband Gene who preceded her in death on March 29, 2010 were married on August 1, 1943 in remained in Wewoka together for 67 years.
Jewell started working for C.R. Anthony Co. early in her life and remained there for 43 years in Wewoka and Holdenville Stores.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Doyle Van and Jennifer Burnell; granddaughter Jackqualyn Grace Burnell; great-grandson Rennon Coleman Burnell, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Services to celebrate Jewell and Gene's life will be held near Atwood in July where they will be remembered together forever by fancily and friends.
Beverly Burris
Former Seminole resident Beverly Joann Burris passed away on August 11, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 50.
She was born on December 12, 1959 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Henry Ford Marzett and Rosalee (Wright) Marzett.
She graduated from Seminole High School in 1978. She married Willie Doug Burris on September 16, 1981 in Ada, Oklahoma and he survives her of the home.
Beverly worked at the Wichita Mental Health Facility in Wichita, Kansas and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Willie Burris of the home, two sons, Durrell Burris, Zachius Awe and one daughter, Aurielle Burris all of the home, two brothers, Henry Marzett of Seminole and Albert Marzett of Seminole, five sisters, Vernal Dunlap of Las Vegas, Nevada, Fern Robinson of Bakersfield, California, Yvonne Shannon of Wichita, Kansas, Carolyn Edwards of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Dell Carolina of Wichita, Kansas, four sister-in-laws; Patsy Colbert, Rose Burris, Marchell Burris and Yolanda Burris. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Imauri Rashad Carter, De’auriaunna Carter, Dawnyelle Carter and Don’aiha Carter.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 with Rev. Bobby Ray Curry and J.C. Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Ruth Burrow
Ruth Doris Burrow was born on Saturday, May 5, 1923, in Cambridge, Cowley County, Kansas, and departed this life on Sunday, July 25, 2010, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 87.
Ruth, the daughter of Arthur Benjamin and Tama Lucienda (Ruckman) Garoutte, was a resident of Seminole since 1999. She married Ralph Nelson Burrow on November 23, 1938, in New Port, Arkansas.
They lived in Meeker for over 20 years. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1993. Ruth was a retired Certified Medication Aide and a member of the Assembly of God in Jones. Her parents; son, Larry Ray; three brothers; and nine sisters, also preceded Ruth in death.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law: Fred and Dorothy Burrow of Moore, Ralph and Nancy Burrow of Coweta, Donald and Carol Burrow of Tulsa, Thomas and Patricia Burrow of Tulsa, Daughters and sons-in-law, Lenda and Wayne Davis of Jones, Carrol and Bill Cunningham of Drexel, MO., JoAnn and Raymond Lee of Choctaw, Doris and Mark Seifried of Seminole, 23 Grandchildren, and 24 Great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 10 a.m., at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Pastor Josh Stroggins officiating.
Interment will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow at 2:00 PM. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Vanessa Butler
Vanessa Gail (Kramer) Butler, age 56 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, died on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 20th at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.
Vanessa was born on June 17, 1954 in Konawa to Vausey (Brazell) and Alvin Kramer. She was a Konawa High School graduate, and she worked as a secretary for Barnett Bank. Vanessa married Bob Butler on December 23, 1979 in Konawa. She was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Ada, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Butler of the home; one son, Christopher Wayne Butler of southern Florida; one daughter, Stacey Lynn Kramer of Edmond, her mother, Vausey Kramer, Konawa; one brother, Alan Keith Kramer of Stillwater, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Wilma Lamb of Konawa.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Kramer.
Eual Camp
Eual E. Camp, age 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, in Macomb.
He was born April 7, 1927, to William Elbert and B. Ruth (Graham) Camp, in Lamesa, Texas.
He was raised in Lamesa, Texas; he also lived in Lordsburg, N.M. before moving to Bethany, in 1962. He then moved to the Tecumseh/Macomb area in 1974 and had lived there since.
He married Peggy L. (Rockwell) Camp, Feb. 4, 1956, in Lordsburg, N.M.
He served in the United States Navy and was a retired truck driver.
He was a member of the Macomb Masonic Lodge, #310, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory, in Guthrie.
He enjoyed watching his grandkids play ball.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy L. Camp, of the home; daughter, Audrienna Camp, of Dallas, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Lisa Camp, of Tecumseh; granddaughter, Hailey Hernandez, of Tecumseh; grandson, Jayce Camp, of Tecumseh; special friends, Gary and Sandie Kinsey, of Tecumseh; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Prairie View Cemetery, in Macomb, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, of Tecumseh.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at BancFirst for Eual under the name of Peggy Camp.
