Services for Hugh Emmett Campbell, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 at First Christian Church, 1625 N. Broadway, Shawnee with Pastors Glenn C. Peck, Bill Matthews, and Phil Thompson officiating.
First Christian Church will host with minister Ray Belford. Hugh passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010.
Hugh was born November 16, 1922 in Shawnee. He was brought up in Tecumseh, attended Tecumseh Schools and graduated from there.
He attended Devrey Business College in Tulsa majoring in business management. He lived in Texas for several years, Wewoka for several years, then returned to Tecumseh in 1985 and Shawnee in 2000.
His Parents were Early Dooch and Hallie May (Davis) Campbell of Tecumseh.
He married Lois Tibbs of Shawnee in 1947. They were married for 50 years when she preceded him in death.
On April 1, 2000 he married Vonda J. Youker (Shirey) from Tecumseh. They had the opportunity to enjoy 10 years of marriage together.
Hugh had a long career in the oilfield. He worked for Kerr McGee, General American Oil Company of Texas, and Phillips Oil Company. He retired as foreman from Phillips.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army from February 1943 to April 13, 1946 and honorably discharged.
He was in the Field Artillery Division, Anti Aircraft artillery, a cannoneer, gunner, full-track driver, and expert carbine and Howitzers.
He was located in the Central European Theater. He received a World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and One Bronze Service Star.
He was an Elder at the First Christian Church in Wewoka.
When he moved back to the Shawnee-Tecumseh area he became a member of the First Christian Church in Shawnee.
He was a long time member of the Holiday Ramblers, Buffalo Ramblers, and the Roaming Ramblers, holding various offices such as President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
He traveled with the Ramblers after his retirement and has been all over the United States. He was a member of the American Legion in Tecumseh since 1946.
In addition he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Hallie, his sister Marie Mae Campbell and his first wife Lois.
He is survived by wife Vonda J. Campbell of the home, Daughter and Son-in-Law: Cheryl and Tommy Muirhead of Shawnee; Son: Keith Campbell and friend Donna Grissom of Wewoka, three grandchildren, Tim & Vonda Muirhead, Terry & Kim Muirhead, and Kecia Wade, all of Shawnee; six great-grandchildren: Macy, Colton, Connor, & Creed Muirhead, Skyland & Skyra Wade. He is also survived by a host of other relatives & friends.
Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Charles Canada
Charles W. Canada, 82, Anadarko, Oklahoma resident died Wednesday July 28, 2010 at Lawton. Charles was born October 28, 1927 in Bernice, Oklahoma to Ebben A. and Millie Frances (Taylor) Canada.
Charles was a retired school custodian for the Shawnee Mission Public School System in Shawnee, Kansas. He was currently a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Anadarko, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #139 in Fairland, Oklahoma. John had moved back to Oklahoma in 1983 from Kansas City, Kansas. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was survived by his Wife, Lona Canada of Binger, one son John E. Canada of Shawnee, Kansas, daughter Mabel A. Canada of Shawnee, Kansas and a son George Richard Bays of Ontario, California.
Graveside services are planned for Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton, Oklahoma.
Lona Canada
Lona Canada, former Seminole resident died Friday, September 17, 2010 at Binger, Oklahoma she was 84 years old.
Lona was born June 13, 1926 on the North Canadian River in a tent to parents John Thomas and Annie Ettie (Leavitt) Morrison. She was 13 of 19 children.
She married Charles Canada on December 27, 1958 in Tulsa. He preceded her in death July 28, 2010. Lona and her husband Charles moved back to Oklahoma from Kansas City, Kansas.
Lona graduated from Centerview High School, located south of Prague, as the class salutatorian then she further extended her education in Business School. Lona was baptized at the age of 16 at the Highway Baptist Church of Little, Oklahoma and latter became a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Anadarko, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker too.

Alfred Capps
Graveside services for Wewoka resident Alfred Capps are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Larry Elwell officiating.
He was born May 4, 1919, in Magazine, Arkansas, to the late Louis T. and Bessie Victoria (Heathcott) Capps.
Al grew up in Calvin and Wetumka, and went to school in Wetumka. He enter the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen. During his time in the military he was stationed on the Philippines Island of Corregidor, 1st tour of duty, and his second was in Europe.
Al served in Patton's 8th Army, earning the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, as well as numerous other awards and metals.
On June 5, 1943, he married Ella Frances Dority, in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in several states: Oklahoma, California, Nevada, and Montana, but mostly Oklahoma where he loved to raise quarter horses.
Preceding Al in death are his parents; wife Ella (Feb. 21, 2007); two brothers, Corbett Capps, and Don Capps; and three sisters Daisy Capps, Greba Oliphant, and Hazel Donaldson.
Survivors include: sister Nellie Elwell and her husband Larry, of Valley Mills, Texas; brother, David Capps, of Holdenville; nieces and nephews, Donald Butch Capps, Rosie Huff, Kay Guillot, Joe Cunningham, Zach Elwell, Lucas Elwell, Steven Elwell, Daniel Elwell; and unofficial adopted daughter and friend, Sheila Qualls, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ken Killen, Richard Dority, Travis Qualls, Joe Cunningham, Donald Butch Capps, and Judd Dority.

Mary Card
Mary Jo Card, 91, of Yukon, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2010. Mary Jo was a member of the Seminole Church of Christ, beloved wife and mother, and an accomplished homemaker.
She is preceded in death by Marvin R. Card, her husband of over 60 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Shanna Swink and Diana Fisher, both of Yukon, OK.
She has four grandchildren, Kurt & Wendy Swink, Kristi Swink and Josh Fisher; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Korbyn and Courtney Swink.
Graveside services for family and friends are pending.

Vera Carmichael
Graveside services for Seminole resident Vera Margarite Carmichael will be Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee.
Carmichael died Friday, June 4, 2010 in Seminole at the age of 86.
She was born October 9, 1923 to Charles and Mary Pickett of Manhattan, Kan. She was adopted by Edward and Edith Pearl Pickett.
She married Arvel Dean Carmichael on July 19, 1941. They had six children together, Judy, Dee, Virginia, Avis, Vic and Gene.
Carmichael was preceded in death by her husband Arvel, an infant daughter Judy, her eldest daughter Dee Simmons, and her parents.
She is survived by Virginia Brice, of the home, Avis and Tom Barton, Colorado, Vic and Judy Carmichael, Colorado and Gene Carmichael, Oklahoma.
She is also survived by a granddaughter; two grandsons; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Officiating the services will be Reverend Johnny Chesser.
Pallbearers will be Hershel Rogers, Kenneth Thompson, Clifford Neal, Virgil Neal, Anthony Davidson and Ronnie Davidson, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Davidson, Sr. and Clayton Stephens.
Repast will be immediately after the service in the Family Center at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Shawnee.
Ric Carter
Ric Carter passed away on April 19, 2010 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 47.
He was born on November 17, 1962 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Benny David and Bonnie (Graves) Carter.
Ric graduated from Seminole High School in 1981. He married Kathryn Jane (Hammond) on October 31, 2008.
He was a construction worker and a caretaker for family members, he also did survey work for the last 15 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and served in the Oklahoma National Guard.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Carter of the home, mother Bonnie Carter of Seminole, step-son, Tanner Wallace of Colby, Kansas, two sisters, Tamara Hickman of Wewoka and Sheila Purkey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two grandchildren, Kadence and Bailey Wallace.
Several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends, also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benny Carter on July 18, 2009, grandparents, Ben Carter, November 5, 1988, Edith Carter, October 30, 1983, Rev. Cagle Graves, December 17, 1991, Vernie Graves, January 1, 1996, and a nephew, Joshua Purkey December 14, 2003.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, Seminole County, Oklahoma.
Elmer Cathey
Elmer Eugene "Gene" Cathey, 66 year-old, life-long Seminole County resident, died July 21, 2010 in Albion. He was born December 3, 1943 in Seminole to parents Elmer Cathey and Shirley Ann (Taber) Cathey.
Gene graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1961. He had worked in the oilfield as a roustabout and tool-pusher for many years and prior to his retirement he worked as a truck driver for Seminole County and United Truck Service.
Survivors include his father who raised him, Joe Tolbert of Seminole, Oklahoma; first wife, Lelia Delrez (McCoy) Renfro of Shawnee, Oklahoma; second wife, Fern "LaDawn" Cathey of Konawa, Oklahoma; three sons Shawn O’Dell and Shane O’Dell both of Konawa and Justin Cathey of Abilene, Texas; six daughters Rhonda Cathey of Seminole, Shelly Sanders of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Crystal Howe of Stillwater, Sherri Berry of Maud, Shanna Postman of Maud and Sharla "Charlie" Woodland of New Boden, Illinois; two brothers David Cathey of Bowlegs, and Larry Cathey of Missouri; two sisters, Judy Kendrick of Calvin and Zaidida Jackson of Bristow; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild is expected to arrive soon.
Gene is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley; by his father, Elmer Cathey; one sister, Peggy Ann Cathey and by one half brother, Jerry Campbell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole. Drew Isaacs will officiate the service.
Casket Bearers will be: Weldon "Diggs" Robbins, Johnny Robbins, Travis Howe, Zackary Howe, Ashley Postman and Bobby Bush.
Honorary Bearers will be: Mike Knizek and David Westphal.

Charles Childers, Jr.
Charles Frank ‘Chuck' Childers, Jr. passed away at his home in Wewoka on Friday, July 2, 2010, at the age of 58 years.
Chuck was the son of Charles Frank Childers, Sr. & Mary Ann (Kerschesky) Childers, born on May 6, 1952, in Whittier, California. He was brought up and attended schools in the Los Angeles area of California.
He married Melinda Curlee on January 8, 1991, in North Carolina, where they lived for three years before moving to Bowlegs, Oklahoma, their home for more than fourteen years. Chuck enjoyed serving as a volunteer for the Bowlegs Fire Department.
He was a member of the Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka. He loved spending time with family and friends, and especially loved the company of his grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Mary Ann Childers; two brothers, Richard Seneff and Johnny Seneff, and one sister, Sandra Seneff.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda, of the home; three children: Mary Ann McCoy and husband Mike, Carrie Nunn and husband Bryan, and Crystal Childers, all of Wewoka; five grandchildren: Anthony Childers, Haley Nunn, Hannah McCoy, Laney Nunn, and Matthew McCoy; one sister, Linda Chandler and husband Ron, of Atwood, and one brother, Jerry Childers of Seminole; several nieces and nephews, various other relatives, and many friends.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 11:00 a.m. at Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka, with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.
