Jessie Conger

Jessie Floyd Conger, 77, life long Seminole resident died on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born October 19, 1932 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to parents Jess Conger and Dora June (Kersey) Conger.

Jessie had worked in the oilfield most of his life for several oil companies where he was a tool-pusher and retired in 2008 from Saber Industries. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving family members include two sons Dean Lay of Seminole, and Scottie Conger of Ada, two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori Osborne of Shawnee, and Amy Dye of Wewoka, one sister and Lena Sawyer of Wewoka, 16 grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Jessie is preceded in death by his first wife Juanita Conger on May 4, 1985 and by his second wife, Alice Conger on February 10, 2007; two sons, Delbert Lay and Jamie Conger; one daughter, Yvonne Woods; two brothers Jack Conger and Thurman Conger.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Avery Conway

Avery Etta (Taylor) Conway, 65 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Monday, June 7, 2010 at her home in Seminole. She was born April 21, 1945 in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Avery graduated from Seminole High School and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She married Alonzo Conway in Seminole, Oklahoma.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Alonzo Conway of the home; three sons, Ken Berry of Oklahoma City, James Berry and Leslie Berry both of Seminole, two daughters, Mable Berry of Oklahoma City, and Elisha Berry of Wewoka, three brothers, Lawrence Carter and Charles Carter both of Oklahoma City, and Ray Anthony Bruner of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Frances Thompson of Richmond, Virginia and Shirley DeLoach of St. Petersburg, Florida; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Avery was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Galilee Baptist Church located at 308 W. Russell Street in Seminole, Oklahoma. Rev. Larry Payne will officiate the service.

Interment will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery located two miles west of Little, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Ramona Cordell

Ramona Lee (Byford) Cordell, 70 year-old, Seminole resident died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 21, 1940 in Seminole to parents John D. Byford and Charline (Blankenship) Crawford.

She was then raised by her mother and step-father Truitt Crawford.

She married Billy Joe Cordell on August 3, 1957 in Seminole. She worked as the assistant manager for the Days Inn Motel in Shawnee until her retirement in 2001.

Survivors include three sons, Rick Cordell of Seminole, Robbie Cordell of Holdenville, and Billy J. Cordell, Jr. of Seminole; one brother, Jerry Crawford of Forney, Texas; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Cordell is preceded in death by her father, John D. Byford; her mother, Charlene Crawford; her step-father, Truitt Crawford; by her husband, Billy Joe Cordell on April 11, 2001; one daughter, Atonia Kaye Lovett; and by grandson Brad Lovett.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 North Milt Phillips Ave. in Seminole, Oklahoma. Freeman Whitlock will officiate the service.

Honorary bearers will be: Gary Don Cordell, Melvin Creig, Bobby Barnes, Billy Barnes, Jody Willson and Craig Willson.

David Cottrell, Sr.

David Lynn Cottrell, Sr., age 52, died at Holdenville General Hospital on Tuesday Feb. 23, 2010.

He was born March 6, 1957, to Oren Deward Cottrell and Pauline (Gill) Cottrell, in Holdenville. The family lived for a short time in Allen, before moving to California, where he was brought up. From his childhood, the family lived and worked on the extensive property of Tracey Ranch, in Kern County. He attended Wasco High School. He married Melba Craig.

He returned to Holdenville in 2001 and worked for several years in the oilfields on a casing crew, working as both stabber and operator. He married Sharla Coleman, in 2007, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a member of the Church of Refuge, in Holdenville.

He is survived by his wife, Sharla, of the home; sons, David Cottrell, Jr., of Holdenville and Danny Cottrell, of Wewoka; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Church of Refuge, in Holdenville, and interment at Glory Cemetery, south of Holdenville. Rev. James Williams and Rev. Dan Johnson were the officiating ministers.

Pallbearers were: David Cottrell, Jr., Danny Cottrell, Jared Hull, Acie Harrison, Donald Cottrell and Dale Cottrell.

Honorary pallbearers were: Lysander Hamilton, Michael Hamilton, Shane Lemmons, Jim Coleman, Bob Coleman, Michael Rutledge, Allen Craig, Todd Holliman, Tristan Houston and Chandler Chavez.

Services were under direction of Fisher Funeral Home, of Holdenville.

Billy Cowell

Billy Wayne Cowell, of Seminole, died on April 22, 2010 at the Inegris Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 64.

Cowell was born on Jan. 14, 1946 in Hobbs, N. Mex. to Rayburn and Ary Lizzie (Rauburn) Cowell. He grew up in the McAlester area and married Beneva Ann Gregg on July 9, 1965 in McAlester. Billy worked as a truck driver so they lived in different places and had lived in McAlester for many years before moving to Seminole about 10 years ago. Billy had served in the U. S. Army in 1963 and then the Army Reserves.

The survivors are a daughter Melissa Ann Kirkland and a son-in-law of Wewoka; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren of Seminole.

Cowell was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, brother, and sister.

Graveside services will be held at Lone Grove Cemetery on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 2 p.m.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Mary Crain-Lindsey

Mary Ann Crain–Lindsey, 56 year-old, life long Seminole and Pottawatomie County resident died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Unity North Hospital, in Shawnee. She was born Oct. 13, 1953, in Claremore, to parents Willie Lindsey and Lizzie (Coody) Lindsey.

She graduated from Jones Academy, in Hartshorne. She was a tribal member of the Seminole Nation. She later worked for Wrangler Jean Manufacturer, in Seminole, for over 25 years.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Crain, of Maud; daughter, Cathy Tiger, of Konawa; brothers, Eugene Lindsey, Walter Gene Lindsey, Alex Lindsey, Thomas Lindsey, and Bobby Jack Spencer, all of Seminole, and Jimmy Lindsey, of Oklahoma City; sister, Augustine Lindsey, of Shawnee; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Russell Crain; brother, Charles Lindsey; and sister, Bertha Deere.

A wake service is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole. Rev. Houston Tiger will officiate. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery, in Maud.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.

Bethanie Crawford

Bethanie Arlene Crawford, age 26, of Wewoka went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 23, 2010 following a life long battle with Cystic Fibrosis. She was born on March 19, 1984 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

She is survived by her son Tyler Crawford of the home, her parents, Don and Donna Abercrombie Kimrey of the home, her brother Nathan Abercrombie of Wewoka and her grandparents Gurdon and Janice Johnson of Wewoka. Also survived by aunts and uncles Dewayne & Karen Johnson, Saundra & Tom Morris, Mary & Ray Sanderson all of Wewoka. Cousins Jason and Amber Morris, Scott and Sheena Johnson, Stefanie and Danny Renfro, Ethan Davis Sanderson and Rachel Sanderson. Her caregiver, Frances Parker who was by her side for 18 years, her boyfriend Antonio Flores and half sister Lorrie Tucker of Dover, Oklahoma. Her father Jerry Abercrombie of Holdenville and a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins on her father’s side.

Bethanie also leaves to cherish her memory a host of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, volunteers and other medical professionals from across Oklahoma who loved her as much as she loved them.

Bethanie was preceded in death by her loving grandmother Ruby Johnson.

Memorial service is scheduled for Monday, July 26, 2010 at New Life Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma at 4:00PM with Rev. Martin Gustin of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness church of Wewoka and Rev. J.D. Moulden of Collins Community Church of Oklahoma City officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery in Wewoka.

Pall bearers will be her cousins: Jason Morris, Scott Johnson, Ethan Davis Sanderson, Danny Refro, Kevin Merriman and Shawn Conley.

Ronnie Crawford

Former longtime Seminole resident Ronnie G. Crawford passed away on January 1, 2010, in Augusta, Kansas, at the age of 68.

He was born on March 3, 1941, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Frank Wade Crawford and Frankie Irene (Nall) Crawford.

He was a 1959 Graduate of Seminole High School; he attended Seminole State College and graduated from OSU in 1963. He married Roxana (Conley) Crawford on November 25, 1961 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

Ronnie had several jobs starting with Ernst and Ernst CPA on the audit staff in Oklahoma City from 1963-1966, Rockwell International in Pittsburgh, Pa., El Segundo, California, he was the finical manager in accounting policies and systems, Electronic Operations in Anaheim, California, Vice President of finance and treasurer at Sumlock Anita LTD., Uxbridge Middlesex, England, director of finance and operations for 3 years, Power Tool Division in Pittsburgh, Penn., where he was a controller for 2 years and Vice President and General Manager of Industrial Tool Division Pittsburgh, Pa. for two years, and Vice President of finance and administration for Switching Systems Division, Downers Grove, Ill., for 2 ½ years and Lycoming Turbing Engine Division where he was the chief financial officer in Stratford, Conn., for 11 years and the chief financial officer for Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas for 3 years.

He was also an Independent consultant for Textron, Inc. and the chief financial officer for Tru Circle Corp for two years in Wichita before retiring he was the chairman of the board.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Roxana Crawford, of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberlea "Kim" and Danny Saldana, of Tawanda, Kansas, Kerie Lynn Crawford, of Omaha, Nebraska, Kristie Ann and Clinton Pivarnik, of Wichita, Kansas, Kellie Jean Crawford and Daniel Kesch, of Basel, Switzerland; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Jo Crawford, of Grand Prairie, Texas; one brother-in-law, James Arthur and Beth Conley, of Sand Springs. Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Jerry and Johnny Checotah, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda Schreiner, of Norman, Oklahoma, Ramona and Terry Kring, of Norman, Oklahoma, Joyce Castor, of Tomball, Texas, Gail and Steve Bonebreak, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and five grandchildren Corey James Crawford, Jessica Lillian Pivarnik, Curtis Wade Pivarnik, Taite Daniel Saldana and Colby Matthew Pivarnik.

He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Harold, George Robert "G.R.", James Wade, Donnie Ray and Ronnie's twin brother Johnnie Crawford; and one sister, Leona Scott.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, in Seminole, with Dr. Tommy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be: Terry Schriener, Carl Schriener III, Kenneth Crawford, Cory J. Crawford, Kyle Kring and Clint Pavarnik.

Ruby Crews

Funeral services for Seminole area resident Ruby Ruth (Bryant) Crews are set for 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, at Immanuel Fellowship Church in Seminole, Okla., with services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, August 10, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

The Rev. Tim Moore of Sulphur, Okla., longtime family friend, will officiate the funeral service. He will be assisted by Jon Randall Crews of Oklahoma City.

Ruby was born east of Seminole on August 26, 1916, to Bryce R. and Martha (Michael) Bryant. She passed from this life at her home on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

She grew up in the Prairie Valley area of Seminole County and married Theodore Isaac "Ted" Crews June 22, 1935, at the age of 19. The couple had ten children. Ruby’s husband of 57 years preceded her in death in 1992.

A longtime member of the Assemblies of God, in recent years Ruby attended the Bowlegs United Methodist Church. She gave her life to God, to the work of her church, to her family, and to everyone her children brought home with them through the years. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, and sewing. For several years, she made quilts for El Salvador missions.

She was a homemaker who also worked in school cafeterias and in area restaurants and ran a rural Seminole Producer route with her husband Ted before his death.

In addition to her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and two sisters; a granddaughter, Paula June Troglin in 1964; her oldest daughter, Helen June (Crews) Pierce in 1987; three sons in law, Patrick Urban in 1988, DeWitt Rawlings in 1997, and Paul Troglin in 2008.

One sister survives her, Edith (Bryant) Knight of DeQueen, Ark. She is also survived by seven daughters and three sons in law: Patricia Troglin, Wetumka, Okla.; Karen and Gary Crump, Mission, Texas; Norma Christian, Donna Urban, and Sherry and Bill Fry, all of Seminole, Okla.; Janice Rawlings, Edmond, Okla., and Reba and David Rippetoe of Bowlegs, Okla. Two sons and one daughter in law also survive her: Fredore D. and Linda Crews, Norwalk, Calif.; and Theodore R. Crews of Huntsville, Texas. Other survivors include Elmo and Zelma Pierce, Edmond, Okla.

In addition, 15 grandchildren survive her: Beth Pierce, Edmond, Okla.; Evan Pierce, Niagara Falls, New York; Debra (Troglin) Pullen, Wetumka, Okla.; Delana (Troglin) Carter, Stevensville, Mont.; Micah Crump, Mission, Texas; Wil Fry, Killeen, Texas; and Heather (Fry) Beauford and Zane Fry of Seminole; Shari (Fry) Morrow, Lakenheath, England; Christopher Crews, Bellflower, Calif.; Jason Crews, Angleton, Texas; Kevin Crews, Prairie Home, Mo.; Kambri (Crews) Finnegan, New York City; Holly (Urban) Palermo, Edmond, Okla.; and Jessica (Urban) Riekert, Stratford, Conn.

Also surviving her are 24 great-grandchildren, 11great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends who have loved her through the years.

Casket bearers are Kevin Crews, Jason Crews, Wil Fry, Zane Fry, Don Carter, and Mitchel Bien.

Gerald Crisp

Konawa resident Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Crisp, age 80, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at a Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Vanoss, to Jewel Edward "Jay" Crisp and Eleanor Pauline Ingram Crisp. He attended Vanoss and Byars School.

He married Alice Wallgren on March 3, 1952, in Oklahoma City. He retired as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force serving from 1948 until May 1969, during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his time in the Air Force he was stationed in Japan, Korea, Tennessee, Ardmore, Oklahoma, Washington, D.C., Michigan, Colorado, Greenland, Okinawa, Vietnam and retired at Tinker AFB. He spent the last half of his career attached to the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigation.

After he retired from the military, he was employed with the Commercial Credit Corp., in Oklahoma City, and Ardmore, later, he was the Vice-President and Branch Manager for Citizens National Bank, in Ardmore. From 1989 until retiring in 1994, he served as the Vice President at BancFirst, in Konawa. Mr. Crisp was affiliated with the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; son, David Crisp, of Ada; daughter, Alicia Smith, of Ada; four grandsons; a great granddaughter; sister, Betty Fanto, of Pittsburg, Pa.; and brothers, Donald Crisp, of Gaar Corner and Floyd Davis Crisp, of Stratford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Houston Unsell; and stepbrothers, Louis Unsell and Dewey Unsell.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bob Langston will officiate. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery. The Tinker Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Pallbearers Bearers will be: Conner Smith, Matt Smith, John Smith, Jeffrey Crisp, Mike Pippenger and John Paul Townsend.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Bill Vann.

Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, pva.org or 801 18th St., NW, Washington, D.C. 20006-3517.

Services are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, of Ada.
