Wewoka resident Mary Lois Criswell entered into rest Wednesday April 20th, 2010 in Tyler Texas, at the age of 99.
Mary Lois was born January 15th, 1911 in Hartford Arkansas to Jim and Luella Patterson.
She moved to Wewoka in 1918 and attended and graduated Wewoka High School.
She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville Tenn., and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Oklahoma and later attended Graduate School at the University of Colorado.
Mary Lois married her husband Jack Criswell in 1935 and they owned and operated Criswell Insurance agency in Wewoka. Jack proceeds her in death along with her parents, two brothers and a son.
Mary Lois joined the Wewoka Methodist Church in 1923 and taught Sunday School Classes and Vacation Bible School and served as Church Librarian.
She was a School Teacher at Wewoka Public Schools for 25 years, a member of The American Association of University Women, United Methodist Women, Wewoka Sewing Club, Wewoka Bible Study Club, and Jonquil Flower Club.
Mary Lois is survived by her son Tom and wife Mary Criswell of Tyler, Texas, daughter, Pamela Schmitz of Mustang, son Michael Criswell of Holdenville, grandchildren Troy Criswell and Brandon Criswell of Tyler, Texas, Valerie Jones of Pasadona Texas, and Robby Criswell of Talihina Oklahoma and several great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Graveside services will be Saturday 10 a.m. Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka with Amanda B.P. Lockwood officiating.
Sheri Criswell
Sheri Sue Criswell (Veitenheimer) passed from this life on Sunday, April 18, 2010, having survived breast cancer since 1983.
Sheri was born January 25, 1950 in Konawa, Oklahoma to Peter P. Veitenheimer, Jr. and Aly’ce Veitenheimer (Green).
Sheri attended Strother High School and graduated from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center Dental Hygiene School.
She was a Registered Dental Hygienist and a member of the American Dental Association. She excelled in her profession for 25 years.
The first 9 years she worked for Dr. Jack Randolph and in Seminole before moving to Dr. Robert Gerety’s office in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She also worked in Tulsa and Wisconsin.
Sheri always had a smile and friendly hug to all. She gave freely of her time and resources to those in need. Sheri enjoyed traveling, shopping, and making people laugh. She remembered everyone’s birthday and made an effort to wish them a happy one.
She was preceded in death by her biological father, Peter P. Veitenheimer, Jr., her "Dad" Mr. J. Wendell Scott, grandparents, Mr. Peter P. Veitenheimer, Sr. and Grace Veitenheimer (Bruno), and Mr. William H. Green and Mary A. Green (Bauschka).
Sheri is survived by her daughter, Khara Elisabeth Suzanne Criswell and son-in-law, Gabriel G. Schuetzner, Shawnee, her mother Mrs. J. Wendell Scott, brother, Gary Veitenheimer and sister-in-law Penny Veitenheimer of Seminole, and sister Laura Scott Kincade and brother-in-law Kevin Kincade, nieces, Kendell Erin Kincade and Khanaa Scott Kincade of Seminole, Billi Wright, Bobbie Vincent and nephews, Glendon Gouker and Kyle Gouker, aunt Annette Miller of Sasakwa, and many dear cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Viewing will begin on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the Swearingen Funeral Home.

Floye Crittenden
Grave side services for Wewoka resident Floye W. Crittenden, age 93 are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Tommy Azlin officiating. Floye passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Holdenville General Hospital.
Born April 8, 1917 in Yeager, Oklahoma to Frank and Birchie ( Grissom) Crittenden. He was a graduate of Spaulding High School and attended Business School in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
Floye owned and operated Crittenden Insurance Agency for a number of years, sold and serviced recreation vehicles and motor homes. As a child he was baptised in a Yeager Oklahoma farm pond. He loved to travel, play golf, and go fishing and camping.
Floye loved people and being involved in his community, being a member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis Club on October 23, 1939 he married Geneva Dodd in Shawnee, OK.
Preceding him in death are his parents, sister, Opal Middleton, brothers, J.W. Crittenden, Lessell Crittenden, and Doyle Crittenden.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Geneva Crittenden of the home.
Three sons: Corky and wife Marlene Crittenden of Wewoka, Mickey and wife Linda Crittenden of Edmond, Darrell Crittenden of Prescott, AZ. Grandchildren: Cari Crittenden, Cathy Byers, and Dana Cook. Great-Grandchildren: Ricky Crittenden, Shay Crittenden, Jordan Cook, Austin Cook, Kaela Byers, and Kaden Byers. A host of other relatives and friends.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jordan Cook, Austin Cook, Greg Cook, Brent Byers, Pete Dinsmore, Randy Brown, and Barry Wood.

Gaylord Crook
Former Seminole resident Gaylord Bryan Crook, age 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Saint Edwards Hospital, in Fort Smith, Ark.
He was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Des Moines, Iowa to Bryan Jennings and Hazel Neil (Beebee) Crook.
He was a Heating and Air Engineer and worked for 24 ˝ years as a government maintenance supervisor for Polk County, in Des Moines, Iowa.
He married Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Crook on Aug. 22, 1992, at First Baptist Church, of Knoxville, Iowa.
He is survived by his sons, Mark S. Crook, of Des Moines, Iowa and William Lingle, of Hartford, Iowa; daughters, Martha R. Mutchler, of Des Moines, Iowa, Penny S. Penman, of Grainger, Iowa, Pamela A. Convery, of Des Moines, Iowa, Patty R. Blackburn, of Bon Durant, Iowa, Donna L. Edwards, of Des Moines, Iowa; step-daughters, Denise D. Gillespie, of Florida, Kimberly A. Watson, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Deborah T. Roberts, of Las Vegas, Nev.; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating, assisted by Chuck Crook. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, Seminole County.
Surviving as Casket Bearers: Nicki Briggs, Vicki Johnson, Lewis Miller, Kelly Penman, Bryan Mutchler, Josh Crook, Rayne Roberts and Melissa Penman.
David Cross
David Leon Cross was born on December 23, 1952 in San Jose, California to Leon and Bernice Cross.
He returned to Bowlegs with his Mom and Dad when he was 6 weeks old. He spent the rest of his life in the area of Seminole and Shawnee.
He started school at Bowlegs and graduated there and went on to Vo-Tech.
He was a self-employed carpenter and was very devoted to his work. He worked a lot of years in the oil field early on in life.
He loved archery and always placed first at the CPN Pow Wow every year. He loved working on guns and did work for others on their guns and archery equipment. He tried to help anyone who needed his help. He was a loving and caring son and loving brother to his sisters. He enjoyed spending weekends with his sister Dawn and her family. He loved his niece and nephews. He came to live with his parents to help in 2007.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jade Cross, grandparents, Lewis and Maggie Cross, Bill and Dora Sullinger and a host of loving friends and family.
He is survived by his parents Leon and Bernice Cross, one son and daughter-in-law: Jason and Jenny Cross, sister and brother-in-law: Dawn and Dale Smith of Seminole, Sharon Tate of Shawnee, a special niece, Devon Smith and two nephews Douglas and David Smith of Seminole. He is also survived by one grandson, Dylan Cross of Seminole.
David passed away on January 10, 2010 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma at the age of 57. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 North Milt Phillips Avenue, Seminole.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Mainord, Steve Clayborn, Gayland Lindemann, Bobby Northcott, Steve Robertson, Jeff Cavett, Allen Harvey, and Stacey Northcott.

Faye Crum
Faye L. Crum, longtime Seminole elementary teacher, died January 25, 2010, at Seminole Care and Rehab Center. She was 106 years old.
She was born August 12, 1903, in Powell, Missouri, to Albert Lafayette Jones and Frances Levada (Frazier) Jones, the fourth daughter of five girls and two boys. Her family moved by train to a 160 acre farm in southwestern Lincoln County, Oklahoma, in 1905, when she was 2 years old.
Her first eight years of elementary school were at Woodlawn, a one-room country school located one mile from their farm. She graduated from Luther High School and attended Central State Teacher College at Edmond for two years. She received a two year State Teaching Certificate. She taught one year at a one-room Lincoln County country school called Black Jack. She had about 15 students in all grades. She then taught several years at West Captain, another one-room school near the family farm.
By attending college in the summer months, she was able to get her Life Teaching Certificate and her Bachelor of Science degree from Central State College.
Thereafter, she moved to Wellston, Oklahoma, where she taught fourth grade until she married Maurice H. Crum, in 1934. They moved to Seminole where he was employed by First National Bank. She substituted at Roosevelt School until the birth of their daughter, Janet Gayle, in 1940. After Janet was in second grade, she started teaching fourth grade again and taught it for many years.
She attended the University of Oklahoma at night, on Saturdays, and during the summer to earn her Master of Education degree. She spent 32 years as an educator, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, in Seminole. She was also a member of the Seminole County Retired Educators organization ever since she retired, and served as treasurer for several years.
In 2000 she was inducted as an Original Pioneer in the First Families of the Twin Territories, sponsored by the Oklahoma Genealogical Society. This organization was founded to recognize, honor, and perpetuate the memory of early Pioneer and Indian families who were residents of Oklahoma or Indian Territory on or before statehood.
She was also a member of Self Culture Club and Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional teachers organization that honored her with their Red Rose award. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women where she was a 50-year member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet G. Seay, son-in-law, Frank H. Seay, of Seminole; granddaughters, Trudy Wheeler and husband Jim Wheeler, of Norman, Oklahoma, Laura Seay, of Norman, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Kate, Ava, and Luke Wheeler. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews: Alzena Logan, Bob Denny, Bill Denny, Joe Jones, Jay Jones, Oral Ray Jones, Nancy Kuno and Candace Pigott.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at the Church of Christ, in Seminole, on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery will follow.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Lula Crump
Longtime Wewoka resident, Lula Mae Crump, age 83 years died on Thursday, June 24th, 2010 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
Born February 1st, 1927 in Needmore, Arkansas to Elzy and Lora (Slagle) House.
She married Delbert Clark on June 14, 1946 in Konawa, OK. She later married E.J. Crump on October 11, 1957 in Wewoka, OK. She was a homemaker and an Ordained Minister of the Gospel. She was a longtime member of the Holdenville Harvest Time Tabernacle with over 50 years of attendance.
She is preceded in death by her parents Elzy and Lora House, husband E.J. Crump, daughter Judith Ann MeGee, six sisters Willie Catherine House, Emma Roseberry, Ada Crump, Gertie White, Nellie Stringfellow and Minnie Sherfield; four brothers David House, Johnnie House, Andrew House, and Elmer House.
She is survived by her three sons Claud Clark of Holdenville, James David Crump of OKC, and Edward Crump of Wewoka, two daughters Elaine Blackburn of Sasakwa, and Carolyn Gurley of Wewoka, , eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Services will be Monday June 28, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Harvest Time Tabernacle of Holdenville, OK., with Rev. Jimmie Freeman officiating interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will be Kelly Blackburn, Chaney Clark, Chris Clark, Daniel Clark, Morgan Crump and Randy Patton.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Billy Gurley, Glenn Stringfellow, Mickey Conley, Jesse Blackburn and Butch Crump.
Hazel Cummings
Hazel Lucille (Atterbery) Cummings, longtime resident of Owasso, died on Sunday, August 15, 2010 in Owasso, at the age of 96.
She was born on April 22, 1914 in Depew to James Otis and Zona Frances (Baugher) Green.
She was reared and educated in Oklahoma, and was a high school graduate of the Oklahoma School for the Blind in Muskogee, where she meet Oliver Atterbery.
On February 18, 1940, they married in Kirksville, Missouri.
They moved to Ponca City in 1946, where he practiced Osteopathy, until his death in 1963.
Cummings then was employed as a house mother in Texas and for a fraternity at Indiana State University.
In 1972, she married Elza Cummings in Seminole.
In 1991, she moved to the Baptist Village of Owasso, where she resided until her death.
She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso, where she sang in the choir for many years and sang her last solo hymn at age 86.
Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, making quilts and spending time with her family.
Cummings is survived by two daughters, Adele Martin, of Kissee Mills, Missouri, and Linda Cooper, of Oologah; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Oliver Attebery, second husband, Elza Cummings, brother, Ordell Green and her parents.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
