Jimmie Arlan Duck, age 79 and a life-long resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 1, 2010.
Jimmie was born on May 28, 1931, in Konawa, Oklahoma, to Willie Lee "Bill" Duck and Lillie (Payne) Duck. He was an owner of an oilfield company, a farmer, a rancher, and a member of the United Methodist Church of Konawa. He married June B. Dement on November 16, 1952 in Konawa.
He is survived by his wife, June B. (Dement) Duck of the home; three sons, Roger Duck and wife, Ruth, of Konawa, Gary Duck and wife, Lee Ann of Konawa, and Robert Duck and wife, Vicky also of Konawa; one daughter, Phyllis Duck of Konawa; two brothers, Claud Duck and wife, Betty of Shawnee, and Johnny Duck and wife, Barbara of Earlsboro, two sisters, Billie Crownover and husband, William of Jones, and Anna Jane Roe and husband, David of Konawa; one sister-in-law, Nancy (Duck) Riggle of Konawa; ten grandchildren, Crystal and Charles Miller of Vanoss, Amy and Marcus Gutierrez of Ada, Jim and Kelley Duck of Musgokee, Tammy Brakhage of Konawa, Tim Duck of Konawa, Mark and Jenni Duck of Springdale, Arkansas, Scott Duck of Konawa, Misty and Eric Hatton of Oil Center, Casey and Travis Gregg of Konawa, and R. J. and Brandi Duck of Ada, seventeen grandchildren, Dakota and Dillon Miller, Gabriel, Lydia and Emily Gutierrez, Kadance and Joshua Duck, Garrett Rainey, Shelby Brakhage, Jesse and Sadie Duck, Kylee, Scotlyn and Eric Hatton, Ryan Gregg, and Laurel and Lillie Duck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee "Bill" and Lillie (Payne) Duck; two brothers, Harold and Edd Duck; and one sister, Geraldine Meadows.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4th at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa. Rev. Pam Shirk, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Konawa will officiate and Richard Winters, Pastor of the Church of Christ of Konawa will assist.
Pallbearers are Jim E. Duck, Tim Duck, Mark Duck, Scott Duck, R. J. Duck, and Travis Gregg. Honorary pallbearers are Marcus Gutierrez, Eric Hatton, Frank Wilson, Mike Boren, and Charles Miller.
Ruby Dunn
Ruby "Rose" Dunn, a Prague, Oklahoma resident died on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the age of 98. Rose was born October 11, 1911 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri to parents Samuel Walker and Lova May (Patterson) Downs.
Rose married Leonard Dunn on February 5, 1947 at Henrietta, Texas.
Rose moved to Western Oklahoma at a young age, she lived there until 1967 where she moved to Prague.
Rose was a member of the Church of Christ of Prague, Oklahoma. She worked at the Department of Human Services. Rose was also a livestock auction owner and cattle rancher.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard on February 22, 1985, two sons, Tommy Scroggin, Gary Dunn and daughter, Kay Dunn.
Rose is survived by three daughters, Norene Lawson of Cordell, Oklahoma, Joy Hoover of Carrollton, Texas and Sherri Carpenter of Prague. She is also survived by son, Lenny Dunn of Shawnee. Rose is survived by sister, Nell Scoggin of Vernon, Texas, seventeen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Graveside Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Lone Star Cemetery, Rocky, Oklahoma. Grandsons will be acting as honorary casket bearers.
Funeral service is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, Oklahoma.
Doris Dyck
Former Seminole resident Doris Dyck, age 90, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, in El Reno.
She was born March 25, 1919, in Coalgate, to James Howard and Rachel (Dillon) McKinnon.
She married Max Herbert Dyck, Jr. on April 6, 1946, in Seminole.
She attended Prague and Chandler schools and graduated from Chandler High School. During World War II she and her husband worked at Tinker Air Force Base where they met.
She attended the Technology Institute, in Chicago, Ill., where she learned to make parts for airplanes. Later she worked as a nurse’s aide for Seminole Hospital and Shawnee Medical Center, where she worked in the nursery for over 15 years before she retired.
She was a member of the St. Marks Episcopal Church where she was active in the alter guild and Women’s Church groups.
She is survived by her son, Max Dyck III, of Oklahoma City; daughters, Linda Trammell, of Edmond, and Doris Ann Strife, of East Lansing, Mich.; sisters, Serena Powell, of Norman, and Maureen Edmon, of Moore; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Little Cemetery, in Little.
Kenneth Dye
Graveside funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Kenneth Dye will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Little Cemetery with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Dye passed away, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 76.
He was born December 24, 1933 in Prague to parents, Dallas Jackson and Lula Morgan (Parker) Dye.
Dye’s religious affiliation was with the Church of God and he attended the Seminole School system.
He was a roughneck for Mills Well Service of Seminole, he retired in 1980 from the Oilfield industry.
He was married to Junia Faye Dye who preceded him in death.
Dye was also preceded in death by parents, wife, Junia Faye and two sons; Kenneth David Dye and Keith Dale Dye and one brother Bud Dye.
Dye is survived by five brothers; LD Dye, James Dye, Bobby Dye all of Seminole, Ronald Dye of Noble, and Vernon Dye of Odessa, Texas.
He is also survived by two sisters; Lenora Snow of Seminole, and Shirley Killebrew of Shawnee; and two grandchildren.
Hugh Edgell
Seminole resident Hugh Don Edgell passed away on July 28, 2010 at the age of 74.
He was born on December 11, 1935 to Zephro Edgell and Vivian Lunette Bruce.
He married Gwendolyn Edgell on June 1, 1957 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; she preceded him in death on April 23, 2008, he was also preceded in death by brother LeRoy, half-sister, LaVonne Edgell Day, along with his parents.
Hugh was born in Snomac, Oklahoma south of Seminole, he joined the US Navy where he was an Aviation Electrician Mechanic 3rd Class. He lived in Iowa and Illinois where he worked for International Harvester Farmall. In 1980 he returned to Seminole and worked for Joe Mills as a derrick hand, he also worked for the Seminole Company.
Hugh was an avid sports fan for the Chicago Cubs; he loved hunting and fishing especially blue cat catfish.
He was known for his vegetable garden.
He is survived by two sons; Mike Edgell of Vilonia, Arkansas and Kevin Edgell of Muskogee, Oklahoma, two daughters, Lori McKinney of Maud, Oklahoma and Kristy Calhoun of Oktaha, Oklahoma, one brother Walt Edgell of Sparta, Wisconsin. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Trent and Dalton of Oktaha, Oklahoma and Jessica and Rachel of Galva, Illinois.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Susie Edgell
Susie Esther (Griffith) Edgell, 71 year-old, longtime Seminole resident died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Integris Seminole Medical Center.
She was born October 26, 1938 in Lamar, Arkansas to parents Theodore George Griffith and Alice Beatrice (Ellsworth) Griffith.
She married Daryl Wayne Edgell on June 27, 1959 in Seminole.
The couple returned to Seminole in 1976 from Casper, Wyoming.
She was a member of the Seminole First Church of God, now, Heartland Family Church.
Survivors include five sons and, Marcus Theodore "Mark" Edgell, Walter Wayne Edgell, Bobby Ray Edgell, and Jerry Jackson Edgell all of Seminole, and Kenneth Lee "Ken" Edgell of Illinois; one daughter, Joann (Edgell) Wheat of Seminole; one brother, Robert Griffith of Seminole; one sister, Elva Edgell of Seminole; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.
Edgell is preceded in death by her husband, Daryl Wayne Edgell who died May 14, 1996; one daughter, Gennell (Edgell) Bryant in 2002; one sister, Hazel Holland in 2002; and one great-granddaughter, Shalinda Bloom in 2002.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma with Tom Newell officiating the service assisted by Ken Edgell.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Glen Edwards
Glen W. Edwards, Shawnee, died at the age of 68 on Friday, July 23, 2010.
A Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allan Colbert officiating. Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Glen was born on May 30, 1942 at Concho, Oklahoma to parents John W. & Martha (Ellis) Edwards. He was raised in the Little Community area north of Seminole, and lived most of his adult life in the Denver, Dallas, Lawton & Shawnee areas.
He attended Pawnee Boarding School, "Gravy U", and graduated from Prairie Valley High. He attended Kansas University on an academic scholarship and transferred to play basketball at Haskell Institute where he graduated in 1964.
Glen retired as the Executive Director of Absentee Shawnee Housing Authority. He was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
He played all sports, including fast pitch softball, as well as basketball & football. He played AAA Fast Pitch Softball in Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother: James Lee Edwards
He was survived by his mother Martha Edwards
Daughter Alicia Miller of Shawnee, Sisters: Charlene Whittington of Shawnee; Gilreath Godwin of Knoxville, Iowa; Atheda Fletcher of Houston, TX; and Cheryl Kennedy of Shawnee, Brother: John L. Edwards of Shawnee, Former Spouse: Nancy Edwards of Shawnee, grandsons, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Patti Edwards
Patti Sue Edwards of Wewoka died of heart failure after a long and heroic battle with Parkinson’s disease. Patti ended this life on July 27 at The Heart Hospital of Oklahoma at Mercy in Oklahoma City. Her children were at her bedside.
Patti Sue was born at home in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, November 11, 1941, the third child of Wiley and Elleen (Greer) Jones. Patti lived her entire life in Seminole County. She graduated Valedictorian with the class of 1959 from Douglass High School of Wewoka. She attended St. Mary of the Plains College at Dodge City, Kansas, and St. Joseph School of Nursing at Wichita. She graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City in 1966. In 1961 she married Boyze C. Edwards. They were later divorced.
Patti’s entire nursing career was devoted to the communities of Wewoka and Seminole where she worked as a registered nurse in the old hospitals. After more than thirty years of working in positions of staff nurse, head nurse, director of nursing, and director of surgery and emergency services she retired from the now Seminole Integris Hospital. After her retirement, she continued to work at Elmwood Manor and served as RN consultant for Oakridge Home.
Patti was the friend, sister and parent that every person should aspire to be. She was truly a selfless person. She was active in the Seminole County Home and Community Extension Club, serving as the president of the Early Risers club for many years, where she was well known for her Blue Ribbons. Patti was a pillar of the Douglass High School Alumni Association, celebrating her 50th anniversary last year. She was a member of the Wewoka Cemetery Board. Patti was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic minister and music director. She lived the life of "What you have done for the least of these, you have done for me".
Patti cherished her family and was the matriarch of a large and extended group. She was respected and honored and will be deeply missed by many.
Her parents, brothers Billie E. West and Robert Jones and a sister Peggy Peters preceded Patti in death. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Edwards and her son Christopher Bruner of Wewoka, son Steven Edwards and his wife Janice Chaffin and their children Carson and Catelyn of Shawnee; Chandra Miller and her husband Roland of Okmulgee, their daughter Kendra of Edmond, Oklahoma and their son Kyle of the home; son Mark Edwards of Moscow, Idaho and his children Kendra Mae Sloan Edwards of Wewoka and sons Dometrice and Jeffrey Edwards of Oklahoma City; brothers John (Rae) and Wiley (Kathleen) Jones; sisters Pauline Overstreet (Roy), W. Veronica Jones and Joy Rees all of Wewoka.
She also leaves to mourn her passing many nieces, nephews and their children, her former brothers- and sisters-in-law, her life-long friend Syiblean Spencer and a host of cousins, many friends and co-workers.
The Rosary will be recited at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka at 7:00 PM, Friday July 29th, Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 30th at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Holdenville, Fr Basil Keenan OSB, officiating assisted by Fr. Matthew Brown OSB and Fr Benjamin Vima.
Tammy Edwards
Tammy A. Edwards, 49, of Tecumseh, died on Friday, July 2, 2010.
A Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Charles Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Tammy was born on December 9, 1960, in Shawnee to Pat Craft & Madge Coblentz She has lived most of her life in the Shawnee/Earlsboro area. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and went to Seminole State College, as well as East Central University. She worked for Central Oklahoma Family Medical Center.
She loved cooking out, OU Football, spending time with family and friends, and Sunday dinner at her father’s. Her 2 sons were the joy of her life.
PRECEDED BY: she was preceded in death by her mother, Madge Coblentz.
Survivors include her father & step-mother, Pat & Linda Craft of Shawnee, two sons, Chad Louis Edwards of Tecumseh and Ben Kent Edwards of Shawnee, two Brothers, Donny Coblentz of Shawnee and Kent Craft of Shawnee, grandmothers, Margarete Wilson of Earlsboro and Lawatha Craft of Shawnee, numerous friends, cousins and other family members.
