Dr. Mary Lois Hodges Jernigan, 89, passed on June 27, 2010 at her home in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Mary L. Jernigan was born in Ringling, Oklahoma on March 19, 1921. She attended a variety of schools throughout southern and central Oklahoma, including Seminole High School.
She married her high school sweetheart Arthur Oliver Jernigan Jr. of Seminole, OK in 1941. The Jernigans spent over 20 years both overseas and across the United States with the U S Air Force. During this time she raised a family of three children, obtained her bachelors degree from the University of the Philippines and taught elementary school.
As a second career, Mary returned to higher education, eventually obtaining a doctorate in 1969 from the University of Oklahoma in Early Childhood Education. Dr. Jernigan moved to a professorship at East Texas State University, now Texas A & M University – Commerce, from which she retired in 1986.
Dr. Jernigan was a renaissance woman in the sense that she had been everything from a hat model in the 1950's to a college professor and during the process she traveled the world. Learning and encouraging everyone else to learn was her life passion. Her last life lesson would be that when she is buried, "let it be with my faults, weaknesses and prejudices. Give my sins to the devil and my soul to God. If by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I asked, I will live forever."
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Arthur O. Jernigan Jr., her parents, Leo M. Hodges and Mary L. Vaughn Hodges and her sister Joyce Hodges Burpo.
She is survived by her sisters, Sybil Hodges Nelson and Jerry Hodges Ross, her three children James A. Jernigan and his wife Linda L. Jernigan, Mary E. Jernigan Smith and her husband Gene Smith and John O. Jernigan and his wife Tracey K. Jernigan. Mary is survived by her three grandchildren Kim Jernigan Barto and her husband Alan Barto, Calvin "Jack" Hobson and his partner Ben Russell and Coleman Jernigan. She is also survived by two great grandchildren Alec Barto and the future Kyler Barto.
Graveside services will be at the Little Community Cemetery, Seminole County, Oklahoma at 12 p.m. on June 29, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, the Jernigan family requests that donations be made to the Dr. Mary L. Jernigan fund at the OU Foundation benefiting the University of Oklahoma, Jeanne Rainbolt College of Education.

Larry Johnson
Lifelong Seminole resident Larry Gene Johnson, age 62, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at St. Anthony Hospital, in Oklahoma City. He was born July 12, 1947, in Shawnee, to Charles Leonard Johnson and Mildred Virginia (Hedges) Johnson.
He graduated from Seminole High School in 1965 and went on to earn his bachelors degree from East Central University, in Ada. He also served in the Army Reserve for several years. He retired from Wrangler Jean Manufacturer in Seminole where he worked as an inspector.
He is survived by his mother; daughters, Kristin M. Johnson-Burns and Rebecca K. Johnson; and brother, Charles R. Johnson, of Earlsboro.
He is preceded in death by his father and brother, Jerry Johnson.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole. Eugene Johnson will officiate the service. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, in Seminole.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.
Larry Johnson
Larry Blaine Johnson was born on June 10, 1939, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 71.
Larry, the son of Robert James and Eldora Jane (Wallis) Johnson, was a life-long resident of Prague. He graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1957 and worked for Sears Roebuck for five years.
Larry's banking career began at Prague National Bank in 1963 as a bookkeeper. He worked his way up to become cashier of the bank and in 1979 was promoted to vice president.
In 1993, he was promoted to senior vice president, a position he held until his retirement in 2007. Throughout his career with the bank, Larry maintained his well-respected position in the Lending Department.
He married Tina Rochelle Fletcher on September 19, 1981, in Bald Knob, Arkansas. Larry was active in many community activities and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Larry's parents; sisters, Wilma Wilson, Doris Duncan, and Barbara Middleton, preceded him in death.
He was survived by his wife of 29 years, Tina Johnson of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jerel and Staci Johnson of Norman; daughters and son-in-law Kimberly and Kevin Riggs of Prague; Jami Johnson of Norman; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Billie Johnson of Prague, sister, Hazel McDaniel of Seminole; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Bo Wright Riggs of Prague, mother-in-law, Wanda Fletcher of Prague.
The Johnson family will receive friends on Friday, October 29, from 6 p.m. to 8:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Mildred Johnson
Longtime Seminole resident Mildred Johnson passed away on May 28, 2010 in Seminole at the age of 91.
She was born on September 26, 1918 to Elbert and Zora Bell (Beard) Hedges in Lowell, Arkansas.
She married Charles Leonard Johnson on June 30, 1939 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma.
Mildred worked as a sales clerk for Newton Walls in Seminole for 40 years, she also sold Avon.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Debbie Johnson of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, daughter-in-law: Pat Johnson, Tulsa, Oklahoma, brother, Bentley Hedges, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and sister Betty Courtney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death parents, her husband, Charles Leonard Johnson on December 11, 2002, two sons; Jerry Johnson in 1995 and Larry Gene Johnson on February 21, 2010 and a brother Harry Hedges.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Eugene Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma.
Sue Johnson
N. Sue Johnson, 75, longtime Seminole resident went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 30, 2010 at her home in Seminole.
Mrs. Johnson was born April 25, 1935, in Olustee, Oklahoma near Altus, to Travis Burliston and Rosa Mae (Lucas) Collums.
Mrs. Johnson was married to Ray Evans (Buzzy) Johnson on May 1, 1954 in Seminole.
Sue passed away just one day before their wedding anniversary, they were married for 54 years, and they now are spending their anniversaries together forever.
Before his death on September 22, 2008, they enjoyed fishing together, going to the casino and playing canasta every morning.
Sue was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She enjoyed crocheting, making floral and memorial arrangements, cooking, working in her flower garden and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, which were the love of her life.
Sue was a member of the Bowlegs Baptist Church and was a Homemaker.
Two Daughers and son-in-laws, Becky and Roger Palmer of Seminole, Oklahoma and Brenda and Willis Deatherage of McAlester, Oklahoma, survive her.
She also is survived by one brother Leroy Collums of Eufaula, Oklahoma and one Sister Janet Reed of Wylie, Texas.
Sue is also survived by six grandchildren: Nathan Palmer and Rachel Palmer of Seminole, Bryan Deatherage of Red Oak, Oklahoma, Jeffery Deatherage of McAlester, Oklahoma, Kenneth Deatherage of Ada, Oklahoma and Elizabeth Hayhurst of Saginaw, Texas., and eight great-grandchildren including the newest addition to the family Natalie Rae Palmer.
Sue was preceded in death by her Husband, Ray Evans (Buzzy) Johnson, Her parents, Three brothers, Clinton, Jimmy and Clayton Collums and a sister La Della Hackler.
Services are planned for Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Little Chapel at Little Cemetery. Bill Chesser will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.
Casket Bearers will be Nathan Palmer, Roger Palmer, David Post and Joe Reed.
Services are under the directions of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Thomas Johnson
Thomas Charles Johnson, age 56 and a resident of Konawa died at his home on Tuesday, March 30, 2010.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.
He was born on September 2, 1953 in Konawa to Kenneth Johnson and Helen (Albert) Johnson.
Johnson worked as a rough neck in the oilfield industry, and he enjoyed working on cars and fixing up his home.
He is survived by one brother, Terry Johnson of Edmond, and one sister, Sharon Marquardt of Livermore, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Helen Johnson.
Wanda Johnson
Longtime Seminole resident Wanda "Joy" Johnson entered into eternal life on November 9, 2010 at the age of 71.
She was born a twin on December 29, 1938 in Tahoka, Texas to Joe Bailey and Lillian Jones.
Joy attended Lubbock High School. She married Londo Johnson on May 5, 1970 in Lubbock, Texas.
They together operated Chief’s Burger Bin before moving to Seminole in 1973.
Joy Worked for the First United Methodist daycare center until 1978 when she and her husband began caring for many foster children over 20 years.
Joy later became a home health provider until her retirement.
Joy loved to cook and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons who were the light of her life.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Armanda Cravens and husband Chauncey Cravens of Wewoka; one son, Albert Johnson of Wewoka; three grandsons, Bryton Cravens, Damon Cravens, and Jayce Cravens all of Wewoka; two sisters, Bobbie Ellison of Lubbock, Texas and JoDean Williams of Aurora, Colorado; a host of other family including, Damon Bearden, Brian Bearden and Lisa Harris of Texas and a number of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her, husband Londo Johnson on March 23, 2003; her parents Joe Bailey and Lillian Jones and her twin sister Ruby Foy Nelson in February 2010.

Charles Johnston
Charles Walter Johnston, Jr., 86, lifelong Seminole resident died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Integris Seminole Medical Center. Charles was born November 7, 1923 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Charles Walter and Bessie G. (Bryant) Johnston.
Charles was a graduate of Seminole High School and The University of Oklahoma where he received a degree in Geology, after serving in the U. S. Air Force during World War II as a Flight Navigator.
Mr. Johnston was a Geologist in the " Greater Seminole Oil Fields", helping his clients find potential drilling sites and oil for most of his adult life.
He was a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists, the Oklahoma Geological Society and the Oklahoma City Geological Society. He was also active in the Seminole community where he served on the Maple Grove Cemetery Association and was instrumental in helping with the restoration of the " Historic Strothers Chapel". He was an active member of the Church of Christ in Seminole.
Charles was married to his first wife, Arlene (Smith) Johnston, on April 9, 1945 in Seminole and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003.
Charles later married Norma (Smith) Dollar on August 14, 2004 in Seminole.
His parents, two sisters and his son Senator Jeff Johnston and a grandson also preceded Charles in death.
His wife Norma Johnston of the home, a granddaughter Katie Roberts and her husband Richard, and three great grandchildren survives Mr. Johnston.
His sister Kaye Black of Weatherford, Oklahoma, two nephews and four stepsons, Michael Dollar of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Richard Dollar of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Lynn Dollar and Ronnie Dollar also of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, also survive him.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of Christ in Seminole at 4200 Highway 99. With Chris Stinnett officiating.
Memorial donation may be made to Seminole State College Educational Foundation in memory of Jeff Johnston or the Maple Grove Cemetery Association.
