Bobby Jones

Konawa resident Bobby Glen Jones, age 71, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Valley View Regional Hospital, in Ada.

He was born April 14, 1938, in Sasakwa, to Lawrence James Jones and Estie (Price) Jones. He worked as a truck driver and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Konawa. He married Gwenolyn (Pickett), in Konawa, May 27, 1957. He married Mary (Brooks), April 9, 2004, in Sasakwa.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Brooks) Jones, of the home; sons, Johnny Jones, of Konawa, Michael Jones, of Seminole, and Eric Jones, of St. Louis; daughter, LaDonna, Bryce, of Konawa; brother, Claude Jones, of Luther; sister, Inetha Waters, of Sasakwa; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gwenolyn Jones; infant son, David James Jones; and sisters, Sharon Kay Brock and Linda Sue Forbes.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, March 4, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Konawa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Konawa. Mona Fulks, Pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Vamoosa Cemetery, in Konawa.

Pallbearers are: Johnny Jones, Michael Jones, Eric Jones, Gary Logan, Kevin Bishop, and Ronnie Lemmings.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Aubry Bryce, Sr. and Adam Hodges.

Marjorie Jones

"Marge" Jones, Seminole, died on Sunday morning, May 23rd, at the age of 84. She was born on March 3, 1926.

A short service will be held at the home she loved at 600 E. Evans, in Seminole, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29th.

She was formerly the Assistant Public Relations Director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and then was the owner and Editor of a beauty industry trade paper, ‘National Beauty News’.

She was loved and she will be missed.

Mary Jones

Mary Jones, 71 year-old, longtime Seminole resident died September 20, 2010 at Baptist Integris Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born January 27, 1939 in Shawnee, to parents Roy Owens and Dorothy Marie (Chaney) Owens.

Mary Madeline (Owens) Jones grew up in the Tecumseh area attending Tecumseh Schools. She was of the Baptist Faith and had attended the Tecumseh Freewill Baptist Church.

Mary later managed the Redding Square Apartments in Oklahoma City. She has managed the Seminole Courtyard Apartments for over 20 years.

Mary is survived by, Allen Washburn of Tecumseh, two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Allen of Seminole, and Sue Barkley and her husband Dion of Shawnee, one brother, Roy Owens of Seminole, one sister, Loretta Thompkins of Seminole, four grandchildren, Jarred Allen, Christy Lee, Caitlin Barkley and Trace Washburn; three great-grandchildren, Cody Dougan, Tyler Armitage and Hanna Lee; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Roy L. Owens and by her mother, Dorothy Marie (Chaney) Owens Johnson.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2010 at Tecumseh Mission Cemetery in Tecumseh, Oklahoma with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Freda Kanard

Freda Faye (Snow) Kanard went to be with her heavenly Father on July 20, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.

Freda was born May 7, 1939 in Berryville, AR to Ira Marion and Margaret Jane (Guess) Snow. She moved to Wewoka when she was five years old. She was a graduate of Wewoka High School in 1958.

On October 16, 1959 she married J.C. Kanard and together they had three children Freda worked at the Wewoka Daily Times, Security Finance, Tower Loans and EZ Loans. She was an active member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church Holdenville, Ladies Auxiliary, and Children’s Church. She was well known for feeding her family and friends home cooked meals.

Survivors include her husband JC Kanard of the home, daughter and son-in-law Janet and Billy Douglas; Son and daughter-in-law Tommy and LaDonna Kanard; and son Jeff Kanard all of Wewoka. Grandchildren: Jennifer Douglas of Wewoka: Andrew and Ashley Douglas of Cromwell; Aaron Douglas of Wewoka; Kayla and Josh Cross of Wewoka; Taylor and Cayleb Kanard of Wewoka; Fiona and Michael Kanard of Wewoka; Sungie and Reagan Buck of Holdenville are all special grandchildren; one great-grandson Scotty Douglas and expected great- granddaughter in October. Sisters Thelma Foye of Leesburg, Texas and Hester Shepherd of Clearfield, Utah.

Preceding her in death are her parents, granddaughter Jaycie Kanard, daughter-in-law Crystal Kanard, brother Thomas Snow, sister Jessie.

Pall bearers will be Harry Gray, Jerry Snow, Andrew Douglas, Aaron Douglas, Taylor Kanard, Cayleb Kanard. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Men of the Faith Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, Holdenville, with Bro. Earl Scroggins officiating and burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Arthur Kay

Arthur Lee Kay, 95, longtime Seminole resident died Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Integris Seminole Medical Center. Kay was born February 24, 1915 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Thomas Marion and Mary Ann (Briggs) Kay.

Arthur married Katherine Camilla Yancey on December 25, 1940 in Shawnee, they moved to Seminole in 1942 where they made their home. Katherine preceded him in death on April 19, 2001.

Arthur retired from Canadian Valley Electric in 1976 after working several years for them as a custodian. He was a member of the Coney Island Tabernacle in

He is survived by a daughter Camilla Harris of Seminole, and a son Arthur Glenn Kay of Livingston, Texas. Three sisters Armelda Randall of Tulsa, Lela McKey of Shawnee, and Mary Ruth Taylor of Chandler, also survive him. Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive him.

His parents, his wife Katherine, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Troglin officiating and burial following at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole.

Casket bearers will be Ryan Harris, Randy Harris, Richard Harris, Frank Harris, George Huff and Junior Harris.

Honorary Casket Bearers are Doyle Brooking and Ray Harris.

Robert Kay

Robert Lewis Kay, age 63, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at his home near Porum. He was born Nov. 16, 1946, to William L. and Opal Mae (Holmes) Kay, in Holbert.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked in the printing business for many years. He married Janet Lee on Feb. 4, 2008, in Fort Smith, Ark., and was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Kay, of the home; sons, Patrick Cynova, of Gilbertsville, Pa., Tim Cassil and Robert Cassil, both of Oklahoma City; daughters, Charla Staples, of Tyler, Texas, Trina Werschky and Treva Phelan, both of Stroud, Christina Wise, of Harjo, and Debra Wise, of Seminole; 22 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife, Kay.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Wellston Cemetery, in Wellston. Services are under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Service, in Chandler.

Gearldean Kean

Longtime Seminole resident Gearldean Kean passed away on January 19, 2010 in Seminole at the age of 72.

She was born on September 7, 1937 in Seminole to J.E. Robertson and Gladys R. Saxon.

She worked as a factory worker at Hayes Axle where she retired seven years ago then took up care giving. She was a member of the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church.

Geraldean was a nursery worker at the church and was loved by both children and adults.

She enjoyed and made wedding cakes and other occasions for friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth L. Kean on June 17, 1996, two brothers, Terry and Jack Robertson, husband, Kenneth Kean, two sons, Jesse and Tom Kean and one grandson, Brandon Kean.

She is survived by her daughter; Regina Ridge of Seminole; four brothers; JL Robertson of Sasakwa, Jim Robertson of Hugo, Don Robertson, Seminole and Randy Robertson of Bowlegs; five sisters, Glenda Kelsey of Amber, Joyce Jones of Sasakwa, Carol Palmer of Bowlegs, Brenda Moody of Bowlegs and Barbara Bible of Wewoka; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating.

Interment will follow at Wolf Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be: Tommy Kean, Tori Kean, DJ Ridge, Jeremy Ridge, Earl Smith, Tonya Hohn, Steve Robertson, Donald Lee Robertson.

Honorary Bearers will be: Ricky Smith, Misty Smith, Samantha Roney and Hunter Harjo.

Joyce Kean

Seminole County resident Joyce Kean, age 58, died Monday, March 22, 2010, in Ft. Smith, Ark. She was born April 15, 1951, in Seminole, to Cecil James Driskill and Ethel (Moody) Driskill.

She graduated from Varnum High School, in 1968. She married Jerry Ray Kean on April 29, 1971, in Seminole. She was a member of Missionary Baptist Church, in Seminole.

She is survived by her husband; son, Justin Wade Kean, of Weleetka; daughter, Christina Renee Blair, of Muldrow; brother, Cecil James Driskill, of Shawnee; sisters, Edna and Velma, both of Oklahoma City, Virgie, of Norman, Clemmie, of Midland, Texas, Mary, of Austin, Texas, and Juanita, of New Orleans, La.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery with Donnie LeForce officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.

Robert Kennedy

Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Andrew Kennedy was held Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah.

Robert Andrew Kennedy was born July 12, 1922 in Okemah to Charles and Elizabeth (Long) Kennedy. He passed away Sunday, May 9, 201 at his home on Okemah Lake at the age of 87.

Bob had been a resident of Seminole and the Okemah area most all of his life. He and Vivian Sue Dodson were married March 10, 1995. Bob was retired from the Sun Oil Company, was a member of the First Christian Church of Okemah and enjoyed gardening.

He also was past grand master of the Seminole Masonic Lodge and also was a member of the Okemah Masons. Bob also served his county during WWII with the United States Army having served overseas in Southern France and Central Europe.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Athadean Kennedy (July 22, 1994); his parents; two sons, Terry Lee Kennedy and Scott Ellexson; and four brothers, Leonard, Charles Jr., Howard Kennedy, and James Dale Kennedy.

Survivors include his wife Vivian Kennedy of Okemah; one son, Larry Mark Kennedy and wife Melisa of Seminole; three daughters, Sabrina Sue Johnson and husband Sam of Broken Arrow, Shawna Kay Austin of Ada, and Deanna Ellexson of Coweta; one sister, Jewell Dick of Cathedral City, California; and 9 grandchildren.

Grandchildren will be serving as active pallbearers: Lauren Kennedy, Jake Ellexson, Zack Ellexson, Spencer Austin, Nathan Austin, Tyler Johnson, Jarred Johnson, Dexter Ellexson, and Max Ellexson.

Honorary Bearers include: Jim Nichols, Ron Stepp, Philip Landers, Pat Martin, Elmer Freck, Leonard Wilson, Orvel Wilson, John Swain, Bob Reilly, and Gerald Glenn.

Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Jeannie McMahan.

Robert Kernell Sr.

Robert Kernell, Sr., 87 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born December 11, 1922 in Rosco, Oklahoma (South of Seminole) to parents Lizzie (Johnson) Kernell and John Kernell.

Robert attended Bowlegs High School and later served in the United States Army during World War II where he earned a good conduct medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He married Alice Brown on November 14, 1948 in Seminole.

Robert worked as a farmer and as an ordained Minister. He was Pastor of Mekusukey Baptist Church in Seminole County. Robert was also a proud member of the Seminole Nation (Nurcup/Harjo Band).

Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Alice (Brown) Kernell of the home; one daughter, Debbie Johnson of Bowlegs; one granddaughter, three great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other family and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Kernell, Jr. who died in 1993; two brothers, Eugene Kernell and Simon Kernell; four sisters, Leister Fife, Helen Colbert, Lula Jones and Bessie Walker.

Wake services are scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, with Ed Jimboy officiating.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, with Rev. Dorsey Nero and Rev. George Harjocee officiating. Interment will follow at the Brown Family Cemetery in Bowlegs.

Casket Bearers will be Robert Colbert Jr., Lewis Fife, Richard Jones, Michael Narcomey, Hershel Hamilton and Roger Kernell.

Honorary Bearers will be Glenn Kernell, A.J. Brown, John Brown and John Kernell.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
