Rita Marks

Rita Marks longtime Wewoka resident died on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 53 years. Rita was born December 27, 1956 at Talahina, Oklahoma to parents Victor and Rhoda (Harjo) Hardy. She lived in Wewoka, Seminole and Konawa.

Rita was a member of the Birdcreek Baptist Church of Sasakwa. She loved sewing, making quilts, reading, working cross word puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and gospel music. She loved being around all her children.

Rita is survived by sisters; Bernice Benefield of Oklahoma City, Leona and Jackie Mars of Golsby, and Bertha Hardy of Oklahoma City, the father of her children Raymond Marks of Wewoka. She is also survived by her children; Tarena and Josh Craig of Moore, Dujuania and Keith Adamson of Oklahoma City, Jeremy Ramone Marks of Cushing, A host of grandchildren. Rita is survived by aunt; Ruth Ludlow of Hugo, Oklahoma.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter: Kristina Davis.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Rock Springs Baptist Church of Sasakwa, with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Jimpsey Harjo officiating.

Pallbearers include Phillip Aguleria, Anthony Eckles, Joey Mars, Victor Mars, Ronald Daniels and Leo Moppins.

Honorary bearers will be Gaylen Ludlow, Sam Battist, Ricki Battist, Robert Sampson, Daniel Tanyan, Adam Tanyan.

A Wake service will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Interment will be at the Carbitcher Family Cemetery, Seminole County, Ok

Funeral Services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.

Mickey Marsh

Mickey Madison Marsh, age 45, son of former Seminole residents Jerry and Sarah Marsh died Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Oklahoma City.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Devin; daughters, Brandi and Micki; five grandchildren; mother; and sisters, Mandy Marsh and Jeri Beth Stafford.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Kyle.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the First Freewill Baptist Church, in Sulphur.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Frieda Martin

Frieda Lee Martin, 73 year-old, lifelong Maud resident passed from this life Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Shawnee.

She was born September 11, 1936 at Punkin Center near Maud, to her parents Rev. Lois G. "L.G." Martin and Eleanor (McCulloch) Martin.

Frieda has always been very active in her Church and her Family.

She was also a very active part of her father’s ministry as he served the Lord as pastor of the Letha First Assembly of God Church located south of Seminole and later he became longtime pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Saint Louis, Oklahoma.

Frieda gave freely of her time and talent faithfully as the Lord led.

Frieda was also a very active part of her family. She was always helping her mother make sure all of the children were well cared for.

Frieda was not only a homemaker but also a servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Frieda leaves to cherish her memory six brothers and sisters-in-law, John Paul Martin and his wife Neta of Greenville, Texas, James David Martin of Talihina, L.G. Martin, Jr. and his wife Julia of Maud, Oklahoma, Lawrence W. "Wesley" Martin and his wife Joyce of Sasakwa, Lemuel T. "Tim" Martin and his wife Linda of Maud, and Luther Carlus Martin of Maud; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rebecca Lou Duncan of Sulphur, and Cindy Robertson and her husband Ronnie of Seminole; and a host of other family including a very special niece Kellie Taylor and her husband Rick of Seminole, and many dear friends.

Frieda was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Lois G. Martin in 2005 and her mother, Eleanor Martin in 2006; one sister, Billie Sue Curtis in 2007; one brother, Daniel Leon "Danny" Martin in 1960; and by one niece, Yvonnie Kathleen Martin in 1998.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Bowlegs First Assembly of God Church.

Frieda’s brothers will officiate the service, Rev. Tim Martin, Rev. Wesley Martin and Rev. John P. Martin. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, located at the corner of Broadway and Monroe Streets.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m., Monday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Jerry Mathews

Seminole resident Jerry L. Mathews passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at his home in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 63.

He was born on September 13, 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico to Loyd Sires and Margaret (Smith).

He served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1968 serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a police officer for many years where he worked for Seminole County 6.

Jerry married Alice Noon Mathews on June 21, 1980 in Tulsa, she preceded him in death on September 6, 2007.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memories two sons; Spirit "Danny" Lloyd Sires of Seminole and Yul Kirk Whitson of Durant, Oklahoma, two brothers, Raymond Sires and Johnny Lee.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Loyd Sires and Margaret Smith Tennant and wife Alice Mathews.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow.

Services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 N. Milt Phillips Avenue, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.

Kendall Mathews

Kendall (Kenny) Dean Mathews was born June 30, 1959 in Wewoka to Juanita (Martin) and Bill Mathews.

Kenny attended Wewoka Schools systems, and graduated in 1978.

He went to Florida for Airport Traffic Control training but did not complete the course.

He also went to school in Wichita Falls, Texas and got his Cosmopolitan License, and later came back to Wewoka and opened up a shop.

Preceding him in death are his parents.

Survivors include sister Kathy England of Oklahoma City; brothers Darrell Mathews of Holdenville, and Mike Mathews of Wewoka; three nieces Tiffany of Oklahoma City, Misty Watters of Wewoka, and Tanya Mathews of Shawnee; one nephew Jarred Mathews of Earlsboro and many other special friends and family members.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Walker and Warrior families.

As Kenny grew up he always had a love for horses and in his younger he participated in play day at various arenas.

Then as he got older he saw winning Trophy's and Belt Buckles, but that wasn't what he wanted to do. His next avenue in life was the chance at Jackpots and Futurities.

Kenny lost the battle to Cancer and will be greatly missed.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Oakwood Cemetery.

Margaret Matthews

Margaret Louise (McAnally) Villines Matthews, age seventy-nine and a long-time resident of Konawa passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31st at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Wolf Cemetery.

Rev. Mark Streetman will officiate and Dwight Eidson will assist.

Margaret was born on September 6, 1930, to Madge (Johnson) and Oscar McAnally in Konawa, and married Jay Boy Villines on December 25, 1948 in Wolf.

Margaret was the Cafeteria Manager for Wolf and Bowlegs schools and also worked in the kitchen at Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole for a number of years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Konawa.

Margaret enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading and doing needlepoint.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Madge and Oscar McAnally; and her husband, Jay Boy Villines.

She is survived by three sons, Everett Villines and wife Karen of Broken Bow, Bob Villines and wife, Sadie of Wolf, and John Villines and wife, Nancy of Seminole; one daughter, Nelda Villines of Khartoum, Sudan, Africa; three brothers, Don McAnally and wife, Irene of Missouri, Richard McAnally and wife, Sue Ann of McAlester, Mitchell McAnally and wife, Vickie of Seminole; two sisters, Alice Irvin and husband, Leonard of Holdenville, and Linda Hardison of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Bobby Villines, Nathan Villines, Justin Villines, Mike Villines, Matthew Villines, and Mark Sanders.

Larry Mays

Larry Joe Mays, 64, of Konawa, Oklahoma, died of cancer on August 15, 2010, in Dallas, Texas.

Larry was born in Cushing, OK on December 31, 1945 and grew up in Kingfisher, OK. He graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1964. Larry received his B.A. in Education from Phillips University and received his M.S. in Education from University of Oklahoma. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Joyce Howell on June 7th, 1968, in Kingfisher.

Larry spent thirty-three years as an educator and school administrator in rural Oklahoma schools. In 1968 he began his career at Dover High School as a history teacher. One year later, Larry became the High School Principal at Dover, and he also worked in that capacity at Mustang High School.

Larry was then called to serve as Superintendent at Lomega Public Schools. This opened the door to serve as Assistant Superintendent at Konawa Public Schools, Superintendent at Cashion Public Schools and then Superintendent at Konawa Public Schools where he retired in 2001. In retirement, Larry remained very active in his church and community.

Larry is survived by one daughter, Amanda Edmondson, of Dallas, Texas; one son, Aaron of Norman, two brothers, Gary Mays of Bartlesville, and Dennis Mays of Broken Arrow, Nancy Villanueva Checotah, and innumerable family and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Mays; mother, Margaret Mays, and maternal grandparents Allen and Manda Poulter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the P.A.C Building at Konawa School under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Larry’s long-time friend, Rev. Winston Curtis, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hammon, Oklahoma will officiate. Pallbearers are Van Chew, Gayle Hajny, Marvin Patterson, Wayne Smith, Don Spurgin, and Gary Stidham. A private family burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Konawa or the Kennedy Library Foundation of Konawa.

Roger McCracken

Roger T. McCracken of McKinney, TX, was born April 21, 1926, in Medicine Lodge, KS, and died June 4, 2010, in McKinney.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob McCracken, and mother, Gertrude McCracken.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Lisa Huggins and husband Mack of Midland, TX; son, Robert McCracken and wife Carmalyn of Spring, TX; son, Thomas McCracken and wife Lea of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He graduated from high school in Wewoka, OK, and East Central University in Ada, OK. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Mobil Oil Corporation after thirty-eight years.

He was a member of First Christian Church in McKinney, the Masonic Lodge in Midland, a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dallas, and Hella Shrine Temple of Garland, TX.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on June 26, 2010, at First Christian Church, McKinney, TX. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Shriners Hospital in Houston or an organization of the donor's choice.

Paul McFarland Sr.

Paul Robert McFarland Sr., 68, went home to be with the Lord in early September 2010 at his home in Seminole, after a seven year battle with lung cancer.

Paul left behind his wife, Patricia, of 18 years, family, numerous friends and relatives.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning, October 10th. Military Honors will be performed.
