Longtime Seminole resident Nancy Virginia Patrick passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010 in Seminole, at the age of 78.
She was born on July 7, 1932 in Seminole to Stella (Standerfer) and James Leslie Hines.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs, Oklahoma.
She married Alfred Edward Patrick on August 28, 1950 in Fayetteville, Arkansas
She is preceded in death by her parents James Leslie Hines and Stella Hines, husband, Alfred Edward Patrick, son, Timothy Patrick, and brothers, Earl, Roy, Clarence and James Hines.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Keith Patrick of Yukon, two daughters, Nancy Patrick-Pratt of Seminole and Stella Ilbery of Coalgate, brother, Robert Ellery Hines of Bacliff, Texas, three sister-in-laws: Carol Hines of Seminole, Hilda Hines of Santa Paula, California, step-sister Judy Bussey of Seminole, and six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She is also survived by special family and friends Lillian Stafford, Lolah Green and Sonya Coffman, many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends also survive her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating.
Honorary Bearers will be: Scoot Ilbery, Rick Ramsey, David Bussey, Jeff Hines, Curtis Brumley and Charles Presley.
Melvin Peters
Melvin Eugene (Bill) Peters ended his life’s journey in the arms of Jesus on June 24, 2010.
He was born August 19, 1930 in Shay, Oklahoma to Noel and Eva (Sexton) Peters. He grew up and attended school in the Shay area.
On May 1, 1950 he married Lillie Toombs in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
He was a ranch hand for several years before getting a job with the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1959 he and his family settled in Waynoka, Oklahoma. He retired from the railroad in 1988. Bill and Lillie moved to Seminole in 1995.
His parents, a brother Overton Peters and a sister Velma Turner precede him in death.
Survivors include Lillie Peters, his wife of 60 years, daughters Kathy Friend of Indiana, Melva Fritz of Seminole, Oklahoma and Beth Tigner and son-in-law Johnny Tigner of Seminole, Oklahoma. Five grandchildren Nathan Friend of Arizona, Dr. Lindzy Dobbson of Missouri, Daniel and Stephen Fritz of Seminole, Oklahoma, Brianna Jade (BJ) Beller of Seminole, Oklahoma and one great grandson Joey Dobbson.
A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.

James Phillips
James "Jimmy" Harold Phillips, Jr., age 46 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away from this life on Monday, May 24, 2010, at Carl Albert Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27th at the P. A. C. Building in Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Rev. Pam Shirk, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Konawa will officiate.
Pallbearers are Gordon Garner, Shawn Walker, Steve Tucker, John Tarver, David Tarver, and Curtis Radford.
Jimmy was born on March 22, 1964, at Lawton, Oklahoma to James H. Phillips, Sr. and Betty Sue (Hisaw) Phillips. He is a graduate of Konawa High School in 1982, and he received an Industrial Engineering degree in 1987 from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and his teaching certificate in 1993. He taught school and coached at Shawnee Middle School for ten years. He taught at Konawa Middle School, and he was an assistant coach for track and field.
Jimmy married Kimberly Ann (Holman) on June 28, 1991 in Ada. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed golf and truly enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved coaching and was an inspiration to all the students and faculty and to everyone he met. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Konawa.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Kimberly Phillips, of the home; two sons, Justin Michael Roberts and wife, Linsey of Konawa, and Jarod Kyle Phillips also of Konawa; his parents, Jim and Betty Phillips; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kay Trent and LaDonna Holman; two grandchildren, Caleb Pittman and Carleigh Roberts; Uncle Bill Underwood and wife, Angel of Lewisville, Texas, Aunt Faye Miller, Aunt Ina Grant and husband Doug, Aunt Betty Hisaw, Aunt Maxine Blanset, all of Ada, Uncle Joe Hisaw of Konawa; and numerous cousins; Uncle Stanley and Aunt Judy Underwood; cousins, Laurie Alexander, Brad Underwood and Doug Underwood, Zach Alexander, Trey Underwood, Dylan and Bailey Underwood, and Mason Underwood.
He is also survived by Kim’s sisters, Kaylon and Kerri Holman; Kim’s nephew, Bret Holman; Kim’s Mother, Mary Scoggins; and Kim’s brothers, David, Jeri, and Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, O.D. and Helen Phillips; maternal grandparents, Ben and Ella Hisaw; uncles, Butch Phillips, Jimmy Miller, and Delbert Hisaw; cousins, Teresa and Darrell Miller, Ronald Joe Hisaw, and Garland Perry.

Jesse Pierce
Jesse James Pierce was born November 3, 1937 in Seminole county to Bonnie and Stella
Mae (Robertson) Pierce. He passed away on Saturday, June 12th, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Interment will follow at the Wolf Cemetery, Wolf, OK. Services under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home
Survivors include his children: Ricky Harris and Johnny Harris; both of Wewoka: Michael Pierce and wife Sandy of Holdenville; and Tammy Roy and husband Danny of Wewoka. Thirteen grandchildren, Dara Jones, Jacie Harris, Kase Harris, Cassara Harris, Alexa Roy, Savanaha Harris, Dawson Harris, Ryan Harris, Reed Harris, Taylor Harris, April Harris, Colton Pierce and Christina Pierce, and four great-grandchildren; brother Bentley Pierce of Seminole:
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother E.Jr Votaw; sisters Sally Collins, Beatrice Johnson, and Martha Green.
He worked in the Oil fields for many years. Before and after his retirement he loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and retirement provided him more time to help people. He will be remembered for his caring personality, his jokes and just having fun. He was a fighter with his illness and a father who took care of his family, we will miss him more than words can say.
Pallbearers will be: Colton Pierce, Johnny Harris, Ricky Harris, Randy Pierce, Brian Pierce, and Greg Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Terry Myers, Keith Williams, James Votaw, Cecil Votaw, and Guy Pierce.
Ronald Pierce
Ronald Dean "Ronnie" Pierce, 48 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Monday, March 8, 2010, at Muskogee Regional Hospital. He was born August 12, 1961, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to parents James W. Pierce and Judy Kay (Lynch) Pierce.
Ronnie attended Seminole schools before going to work in the oilfield where he most recently worked for "Ronnie Richardson’s Power Tongs".
Survivors include his mother, Judy Lynch, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; father, James W. Pierce, of Macomb, Oklahoma; one son, Ronnie Davidson, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two daughters, Cherish Ladon Pierce and Talessia Lavon Larson, both of Eufaula, Oklahoma; two sisters, Sabrina Dixon, of Asher, Oklahoma and Tammy Wantland, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; former spouses and the mothers of his children, Tammy Knight, of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Lezie Pierce, of Eufaula, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jessie James Larson and Kaison Cody Keck, both of Eufaula, Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Ronnie is preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Mark Dixon, who died January 2009.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole, Oklahoma.
Edwin Pippenger
Services for Edwin Donald "Ed" Pippenger, 91, Ada, are 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at the Cushing First Christian Church, Rev. Larry Haney will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairlawn-New Zion Cemetery in Cushing. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Pippenger died Monday, February 15, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born August 26, 1918, in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Simon C. and Lottie Jones Pippenger. He graduated from Cushing High School and moved to Ada, in July 2008, from Oklahoma City.
He married Laverne Cook on March 14, 1940. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1975. He later married Marcelene Collier on June 5, 1996. Mr. Pippenger was a clerk in the pipeline office of Sun Oil Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Tecumseh First Christian Church, the Allen Lodge AF & AM #81 and he was a 32 degree Mason. Mr. Pippenger served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Marcelene Pippenger, of the home; son, Mike Pippenger, Ada; two grandsons, Jeremy Pippenger and wife Jennifer, Ada, and Matthew Pippenger and wife Meghan, Wilmore, Ky.; two great grandsons, Jaken and Jaxen Pippenger; three step-sons, Wes Collier and wife Marilyn, Oklahoma City, Ron Collier and wife Fredia, Oklahoma City, and Dennis Collier and wife Wanda, McAlester; step-daughter, Linda Chambers and husband Neil, Oklahoma City; and one brother, Lawrence Pippenger and wife Ann, Cushing.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Pippenger; five brothers, Charles Pippenger, Everett Pippenger, John Pippenger, Lewis Pippenger, and Melvin Pippenger; and three sisters, Faustina Hicks, Gladys Martin, and Laveta Glover.
Services are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.
Kathy Plank
Kathy Mary Plank went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2010 in Seminole, at the age of 64.
She was born on November 30, 1945 to Elmer McCabe and Maudie Faye (Hinds) McCabe.
Kathy married Ronnie Plank on October 3, 1986 in Seminole..
She worked for Blue Bell Wrangler for 28 years retiring in 2003 where she worked as a sewing operator and for the last 5 to 6 years she worked in the parts department. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Kathy was an animal lover and Ronnie said many times that he would love to be one of her babies.
She especially loved hummingbirds and enjoyed feeding them. She loved going to their place at Lake Eufaula and enjoyed keeping her house clean.
Kathy was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and a wonderful grandmother.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Ronnie of the home, she is also survived by two sons, Jeffery Scott Steele of Seminole and Brian Patrick Loftis of Shawnee; two sisters, Betty Jo Deere of Seminole and Judy Sneed of Checotah; brother-in-law, Alton Walden of Wewoka; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lou McCabe of Moore and Violet Smith of Idabel; and brother-in-law, Mike Eagen of Checotah.
She is also survived by one grandchild, Bryan Keith Steele and two great grandchildren, Landon Keith Steele and Baeley Kae Steele. A host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends also survive her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Maudie McCabe, brothers, Benny Joe Smith, Jimmy Dale McCabe and sister, Darlene Walden and a special nephew Tommy Kent Reeves.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating.
Interment will follow at Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville.
Casket bearers will be: Mike Eagon, Phillip Griggs, Tim Thetford, Scott McCabe, Steven McCabe and Tom Marble. Honorary Bearer will be, Jerry Harris.

Thomas Ponder
Thomas "Clay" Ponder, 94 year-old, Seminole resident died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee.
He was born September 7, 1916 in Heavener, Oklahoma to parents Durham Ponder and Sara Etta (Plummer) Ponder.
Ponder served in the United States Army. He married Mattie Roberts on February 20, 1940 in Okemah, and moved to Seminole over 25 years ago from Abilene, Texas.
Ponder had worked for Getty Oil Company before his retirement and he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mattie Elizabeth (Roberts) Ponder of the home; two sons, Mitch Ponder of Clackamas, Oregon and Ron Ponder of North Carolina; one daughter, Joy Dean Huza of Switzerland; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one grandson.
A Celebration of Ponder’s life will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 N. Milt Phillips Ave. in Seminole, Oklahoma. Mitch Ponder will officiate the service.
Diana Pope
Diana Jean Thornburg-Pope (DJ) Born Dec. 18th 1951, went to see Jesus April 8, 2010.
DJ was preceded in death by her mother Delorse Thornsurg on March 15, 2007. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Wayne Pop of their home in McLoud, Ok.
DJ has two daughters and one son, Rachel Evans of Seminole, Ok. and Christa Benefiel of McLoud, Ok. and Kirk Pope of Watonga, Ok.
Grandchildren include Brandon and Jenna Scott of Lemoore, CA. Naval Base, Samantha Smith and Abaigeal Gillespie both from Seminole, Ok.
Chelsey Pearson and Haley Benefiel both from McLoud, Ok.
DJ was happily expecting her first great grandchild in August of 2010.
Also many other numerous family and friends in Seminole, OK., surrounding areas and states.
DJ was a licensed barber most of her adult career.
She was also a longtime member of The Temple of Praise Church in Seminole, Ok. for most of her adult life as was her mother Delorse Thornburg.
Services will be held at the Temple of Praise Pentecostal Church on Monday April 12th, at 6 p.m. in Seminole, Ok.
