Wewoka resident Marvel G. Stephens, age 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at the Norman Regional Hospital.
She was born April 20, 1946, in Wewoka.
She was a homemaker and member of Ethopian Reformed Coptic Church of Christ, local church servant, usher, member of Sabbath, and Sacred Women’s Association.
She is survived by her brother, Timothy James Stephens, of Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Alfreda Nutt and Yernica Stephens.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Machpelah Cemetery, with Bishop Charley Gilbert, of Ethopian Reformed Coptic Church of Christ officiating.
Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, of Wewoka.
Ralph Stone
Ralph W. Stone "Stoney" long time Seminole resident passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Stoney was born August 14, 1914, in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, to parents Charlie and Blanch (Epperson) Stone.
Stoney was of the Baptist faith and owner and president of Josie Oil and Gas.
Stoney married Mildred "Hannah" Williams in 1935 and moved to Las Vegas in 1942. By 1947 he owned five used car lots but decided to move back to Oklahoma to get into the oil business. His career in the oil and gas business spanned over 65 years, beginning in the 1940’s, when he went to work on wells in St. Louis, Oklahoma.
Stoney loved his grandchildren and daughter-in-law more than anything. After Mildred passed away in 1994, he married Josie Andrews, in July 2005. Josie also passed away and Stoney married Linda Sharpe, who became his true soul mate.
Stoney is survived by his son, Jon, of Seminole, Oklahoma and daughter-in-law, Debbie, of Seminole, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Traci, Tami, Sheli, Andi, Brooke, Brandie and Brian; three great grandchildren, Julia, Brianna and Britany; and one great-great-grandchild Alex.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Freeman officiating and assisted by Fred Gibson.
Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Serving as pallbearers: Brian Weems, Joe Reynolds, Steve Smith, Bob Berry, Dickey Bryan and Keith Hames.
Valrie Street
Lifelong Wewoka Resident, Valrie Street, 77, died Friday, October 8, 2010 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
On January 29, 1933, Valrie was born to Homer and Castella Thompson in Wewoka.
Valrie is survived by siblings Arneitha Jones, Wewoka, Homer Thompson, Fresno, CA., Willie Mae Jones, Seattle, WA. and Alfred Thompson, Houston, TX. Six Children Linda Bivens, Joann Thomas, Charlotte Devoe, and Teresa Street, all of Oklahoma City, Steven Street, Denver, CO., and Glenn Street, Seminole. 16 Grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
One sister Jean Madkins, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Wewoka. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery, Wewoka.
Richard Strickland
Former Wewoka resident Richard D. "Cricket" Strickland, age 31, of Ada, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Carl Albert Indian Health Facility, in Ada.
He wad born Aug. 22, 1978, to Dewayne Strickland, Dr. and Laveda Tiger, in Dallas, Texas. He worked in the maintenance department in aviation at a local airport, in Shawnee, for many years.
He is survived by his parents; son, Cristian Strickland, of Shawnee; daughters, Alexus and Camery Strickland, both of Ada; brother, Jonathan Strickland, of Ada; and sister, Kerrie Fuentes, of Ada.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 3, at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, in Ada. Interment will follow at Tiger Family Cemetery, in Spalding. Officiating will be Rev. Houston Tiger.
Pallbearers will be: Joseph Tiger, Ray Tiger, Zachery McGirt, Marcus Jacobs, and Maurice Jacobs.
Walter Sutton
Walter H. Sutton, age 82, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, in Wilburton.
He was born July 23, 1929, in the Cromwell area, to Walter and Bessie Sutton.
He married Joan Deloras Foley Oct. 30, 1947. He died on the Latimer County Golf Course that he helped to build, develop, and maintain. He was a supporter of Eastern Oklahoma State College and watched basketball games there. He was a longtime resident of Wilburton.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister; and brother.
He is survived by his son, Joe Howard Sutton, of Wilburton; daughter, Beth Aileen Sutton Fitzgerald, of Cromwell; brother, L. Ray Sutton, of Texas; sister, Evelyn Stephens, of Okmulgee; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 2 p.m., at the Cromwell Church of Christ, with James Branscum officiating. Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery, in Seminole.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.
Angel Talmasey
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Angel Louise Wise-Talmasey are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.
Interment will take place at Bird Creek Cemetery in Sasakwa.
Talmasey will be taken to the Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 4 p.m. for wake services.
Talmasey died March 28, 2010 at her home at the age of 57.
She was born on July 26, 1952 to Andy Wise-Talmasey and Jonah (Johnson) in Bowlegs.
She graduated from Bowlegs High School and went on to receive her associate’s degree in liberal arts.
She was a seamstress at Wrangler for many years and also worked for the tribal government as a secretary.
Talmasey was a member of Bird Creek Indian Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Andrew Wise Talmasey, two sisters, Linda Jones and Margert Hill and daughter, Lisa Factor.
She is survived by three sons; Brent Factor and Aaron Factor both of Shawnee and Christian Factor of Ada; four brothers, Kennedy Wise Talmasey of Seminole, R.G. Wise Talmasey of Seminole, Ellis E. Wise Talmasey of Lawton and Houston Wise Talmasey of Tecumseh.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Donald Talton
Donald Lorenzo "Darkwing" Talton, 46 year-old, lifelong area resident died on Saturday, June 12, 2010 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. He was born February 18, 1964 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to parents Albert Hishaw and Beatrice Talton.
Talton attended school in Earlsboro and later worked at Wrangler Jean Manufacturing Company in Seminole.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Frances Talton of Earlsboro, his mother, Beatrice Talton and Donnie Hardman of New Lima, step-mom, Louis Hishaw of Wewoka, sisters, Joycetta Hishaw of Shawnee, Cathy Hishaw of California and Audry Berry of Shawnee, Dana Masquat and Hattie Talton of Shawnee, brothers, Chris Hishaw, Byron and Lashawna Talton of Tecumseh, W.T. Hishaw of Hominy, step-daughter, Rose Secard of Earlsboro, daughter, Leleyn Johnson; uncles, Tony Talton of Earlsboro, Jackie Talton of Shawnee, Oklahoma and James Black of Oklahoma City, aunts, Lena Jo Owens of Shawnee, Elenor Talton of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Mildred Conway of Clinton, Joyce Talton of Shawnee, great aunts, Lurena Douglas of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Ester Davis of Tecumseh, 18 nieces; 6 nephews; and a host of other family and dear friends including special cousin, Stephanie Talton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 N. Milt Phillips Ave. in Seminole, Oklahoma. Rev. J.C. Simpson will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Earlsboro Cemetery in Earlsboro, Oklahoma.
Casket Bearers will be: Kerry Brannon, Dean Winrow, Joseph Cervantes, Thomas Griffis, Derek Griffis and Rick Records Grant.

James Talton
Funeral services for James Earnest Talton, father of a Seminole resident, are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Galilee Baptist Church in Shawnee, with Rev. Donald Boone officiating and J.C. Simpson and Anthony Rhones assisting.
Interment will follow at Earlsboro Cemetery, Earlsboro.
Talton died Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Tulsa at the age of 44.
He was born on November 9, 1964 in Shawnee to Mack Earnest Easley and Elenor (Talton).
He attended school in Earlsboro and was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Johnson Talton of the home, mother Elenor Talton of Earlsboro; three sons, James Talton II., and James Talton III., both of Shawnee, and Delven Madkins of Earlsboro; three daughters, Erica Talton of Oklahoma City, Jayden Talton of Texas and Nicahia Talton of Seminole; three brothers, Mario Jackson of Oklahoma, Mach Earnest Easley Jr. of California and Jason L. Talton of Earlsboro; five sisters, Miranda Easley of Boley, Stephanie Talton of Shawnee, Diamond Jackson of Oklahoma City, Romona Robinson of Norman, and Lanada Robinson of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mack Earnest Easley, two sisters, Cynthia Talton and Alisha Simpson and one brother, Michael Talton.
Pallbearers will be: Mark Tramble, Kerry Brannon, Dean Winrow, Marcus Crochet, Robert Hurd and Gilbert Hurd.

Betty Tanyan
Betty Tanyan, 63, longtime Seminole resident passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma at Norman Regional Hospital. Betty was born on November 3, 1947 in Wolf, Oklahoma to Lina Powell and Lena Harjo.
She was a member of Cedar-Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. She married Benjamin Tanyan in 1970, who preceded her in death in 1989. She also worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for many years in the local and surrounding nursing homes.
Three sons; Simon Harjo and significant other Dana Andrade, Albert Harjo and his wife Brenda Tiger, Clifton Tanyan and his significant other Cindy Hill, two Step-sons Anthony Tanyan and Curtis Harjo, one sister Donna Renton, five brothers Richard Harjo, George Harjo, Jimmy Harjo, Leo Tiger, Sr., and Andrew Harjo, survive her. Twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Her parents, one sister, Sylvia Harjo, brothers Frank Harjo, Kenneth Harjo and one son Chris Tanyan preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dorsey Nero and David Bowlegs officiating. Burial will follow at the Harjo family cemetery southeast of Bowlegs. Betty will be taken to 3313 N. Hwy 99, her son’s home, for viewing and wake services beginning Saturday at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers will be Kirk Fye, Jimmy Dean Jr., Thomas Jones Jr., Kevin Fixico, Terrance Thompson, Anthony Fixico, Kaleb Harrison. Helen Tatum
Helen Bernice Tatum, life long Konawa resident died Sunday, September 19, 2010 in Ada at the age of 64.
Helen was born June 10, 1946 in Okemah to parents Joe and Bessie (Williams) Harjo.
Helen attended boarding school, and after finishing her education she received a scholarship to Seminole State College. Helen was also a homemaker.
Helen married Jimmy Don Tatum, Sr. on January 31, 1974 at Vamoosa.
She is survived by husband; Jimmy Don, three sons; Sonny Turnbow of Konawa, Andrew Turnbow of Maud, and Jimmy Tatum, Jr. of Ada.
She is also survived by five daughters; Annette Turnbow of Citrus Heights, California, Cecelia Akerman of Konawa, Felicia Lumley of Ada, Latisha Culver of Konawa, and Donita Poston of Maud.
Three brothers also survive her; Raymond Harjo of Maud, Louis Holahta, Timmy Holahta both of Okemah; and five sisters; Arlinda Smith, Annie Holahta, Regina Holahta, Eugenia Holahta and Estella Berryhill all of Okemah.
Helen is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; Joe and Bessie Harjo, four brothers; Albert, Evan, Harry James Harjo and Joe Holahta and one great grandchild Daniel Lamas.
There will be a wake service Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Hershel Davis will officiate.
Burial will take place at the Tatum Family Cemetery in Vamoosa.
