Berta Mae Goodpasture

Berta Mae `Gammy` Goodpasture went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 31, 2004, at age 89. Born in Santiago, Cuba in 1914 to George and Cachita Spooner, Gammy was brought to the U.S. by her parents at age 7. She had an inborn passion for helping others and enjoyed a long and successful nursing career until retirement in 1982. She continued to follow her passion as a Deaconess Hospital volunteer well into her 80`s (accumulating over 3,000 hours) until she was no longer physically able to continue. Even then, she prepared and delivered meals to neighbors in her retirement home. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She is survived by her brother, Robert Spooner, Beaumont, TX; sisters, Connie Littlejohn, San Antonio, TX, and Helen Lockert, Port Ludlow, WA; daughters, Connie Scharbor & husband Coy, and Jody Harris; son, James T. Edwards, Lancaster, CA; and grandsons, Jim Randel, Kevin Randel, Andy Harris, John Harris, Tim Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Scott Edwards; 14 great-grandchildren; niece, Patty Sullivan; and nephews, John Devine and Dug & Mark Spooner. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 4, at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel.

George Thomas Elliott

George T. Elliott, Jr. left this earth to be with our Lord June 4, 2004. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma June 6, 1929. He married Helen Burk in 1946 to which two daughters were born: Marilyn Duran, who preceded him in death, and surviving daughter, Phyllis Foran. In 1976 George married his current wife, Jeanne, and happily joined her in raising three daughters: Helen Lewis, Ann Borah and Sara Martz, and two sons: Paul Fenwick and John Fenwick. Also surviving him are 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mr. Elliott proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and was a businessman whose accomplishments included flight instructor of Ross Aviation in Tulsa, OK, Executive Vice-Pres. Of Kerr Aviation and then later Shamrock School of Aeronautics. He then ventured to start his own flight school and charter flight business, Flight Associates. He was also Director of SW Technical College of OKC, as well as other business ventures. At the time of his death, he worked security at the AOL building in OKC. Privately, George was a family man and was an active member of his church. He was appointed Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was President of Kiwanis Club. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing and was a skilled carpenter. He also leaves behind a host of friends and co-workers that were an important part of his life. The family would like to thank the staff of Deaconess Hospital`s ER and 4N for their compassion and heartfelt concern. Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 7, 2004 at St. Charles Borromeo Church of OKC.

Ransom Ernest Peterson

Ransom `Pete` E. Peterson, age 77, departed this life on May 28, 2004. Pete Peterson was born June 7, 1926 to Ransom and Leta Peterson in Glencoe, Oklahoma. He graduated Stillwater High School in 1944 and immediately began his military career. He served as a flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an aeronautical engineer for 32 years for Aero Commander and its successors, including Gulfstream Aerospace, until his retirement in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma M. Peterson; his daughter, Linda Peterson; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Colette Peterson; and son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Rita Peterson; his grandchildren, Amie and Jeremy Peterson and Brandon and Courtney Hunt; and great-grandchildren, Ashley Peterson and one in the hangar, to be named on arrival.

Ray Eugene Drechsler

Ray E. Drechsler, age 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 26, 2004. Ray was born October 16, 1931 in Enid, Oklahoma. On June 5, 1953 he married Esther Nichols and together they shared 51 wonderful years. Ray graduated from Phillips University with a degree in Math and Physics. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was in the Submarine Service. After retiring from the FAA in 1995, Ray was a Professor at OCU, UCO and OKCCC. Ray was a member of Putnam City Baptist Church, the American Legion, VFW, and Promise Keepers. Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Esther, OKC; daughter Debby Garcia and husband Al, Ft. Worth TX; daughter Dalyn Ilolz OKC; grandchildren Jana Rumbaugh, Dallas, TX; Mark Rumbaugh, Dallas, TX; Brian Holz, OKC, and Blake Holz, OKC; brother William Drechsler, Tulsa, OK; sister Betty Teas, OKC and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at Putnam City Baptist Church. Internment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Goldie M. Maddox

Goldie M. Maddox went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ May 28, 2004. She was a retired school teacher and nurse. She was born near Renfrow, Oklahoma on May 12, 1917. Preceded in death by parents C J Sheldon and Mary Pearl (Crandall) Sheldon, brother Ally Sheldon, sister Capitola Corzine, son Robert Maddox. Survived by husband Cleo Maddox, granddaughters Katie Taylor & Kelli Maddox, great grandson Braden Maddox, niece Berneice Ratcliffe & Joan Steers, nephew Jack Sheldon. She taught in rural Kansas schools. She enjoyed most her career as a nurse in OKC. After retirement in 1984, traveling to south TX in winters and Gunnison, CO in summers, plus travels in the US, Canada & Mexico kept her busy. She loved the people in her Sunday School dept. at Council Road Baptist Church. Services will be held 10:00 AN, Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Rebecca Lynn Looney

Looney Rebecca `Becky` Looney, age 45, fought cancer with strength, spirit and hope for the past 8 months. Her fight came to an end on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 8:56 p.m. She is survived by her husband, Rick Looney; 4 children, Rhianna Chancey, Christopher Looney, Lisa Butler and TJ Dennis; son & daughter in law, Sean Butler & Christine Looney; 2 grandsons, Christian and Morgan Chancey, and a granddog, Buckwheat. Becky also has several family members who she loved very much. Becky loved her job as a surgical dental tech. She touched everyone she worked with and every patient she had, because she worked so hard to obtain her job. Now she has the most important job of looking out for her family from above. Her spirit & heart lives through us and she no longer has to fight. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8400 Silver Crossing, Suite H, OKC, OK 73132. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 28th, 2004 at Grace United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Lucille M. Tillman

Lucille Marie Tillman went to be with our Lord on May 22, 2004 in Oklahoma City. She was born November 2, 1921 in Ardmore, OK. Lucille was a charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She was a very compassionate and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend to everyone who had the honor to know her. She had a great appreciation for all God`s creations which often go unnoticed. God painted Lucille`s world with brilliant sunsets, song birds and beautiful flowers, and He holds a very special place in heaven for her. Until we meet again, we will miss you each and every day. Lucille is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John Tillman; son, Duane Tillman and Sandi Cooper; daughter and son in law, Mark and Lisa Bruno; son and daughter in law, Timothy and Denise Tillman; grandchildren, Chris Flynn, Taylor, Travis and Lauren Bruno, and Mitch Bell; great granddaughter, Bailey Flynn; and sister, Miriam Roy. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tues., May 25, 2004, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer`s Association or St. Charles Borromeo Social Ministries.

Jonathan Michael Fanning

The world is a lesser place today. Jonathan Michael Fanning, born November 27, 1984, went to be with the Lord along with his best friend, Lance Meier, on May 20, 2004. Jonathan & Lance, along with their best buddy, Chris, lived life to the fullest. The 3 were always together. Jonny is a wonderful son, brother, cousin, nephew & friend to everyone who had the great honor to know him. Jonny is survived by his mom & dad, Sharon & Larry; his 2 brothers, Scott & Sam; his sister, Dina; his cousins, Josh, Nick, Megan & Parker; his Grandma Marge; his Uncle Bobo & Aunt Linda; his Uncle Dale & Aunt Margaret; his beautiful girlfriend, Casey; his great friend, Chris Wulff; and his 2 new sisters, Gina & Summer. Jonny is preceded in death by his Grandma Iva; his Grandpa Shorty, and his Grandpa John. God reserves a special place in Heaven for souls like Jon Boy & Lance. Somewhere Jonny is out fishing next to his two Grandpas. Your life was short, but oh, so full! We will miss you everyday of our lives. Lance Aaron Meier

Lance A. Meier, 19, was born in Enid, Oklahoma on September 4, 1984, and died May 20, 2004. Lance`s dearest friends, Jonathan Fanning & Chris Wulff shared so much together. Some of their best times were spent at Lake Tenkiller with the Fannings. He was a 2003 graduate of Putnam City Original High School. He loved sports–baseball, basketball, golf, and fishing. He was a member of the high school golf team for 4 years. Lance was a waiter/host at TGI Fridays, Quail Springs on Memorial Rd. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents, Ron & Pat Meier; brothers, John Hamman & wife Robin, Marcus Hamman & wife Sue, all of Edmond, and Rance Meier, OKC; sisters, Kenya Olsen & husband Clint, Dacia Redgate & husband Ryan, all of Waynoka, OK, and Captain Joy Hamman, Columbia, SC; 3 nieces, 4 nephews, many aunts & uncles, and a host of friends. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5pm. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 24, at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur, OKC, with interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Earle A. Travis

Earle A. Travis, age 69, of Oklahoma City, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004 in Oklahoma City. He was born October 29, 1934 to John & Yvonne Travers in Fall River, MA. He retired in 1985 as a steel salesman. His hobbies included fishing and lawn-work. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Idonia Travis, daughter Jennie and son-in-law Chris McDermott, grandchildren Jennifer and Jeremy Fertig. He is preceded in death by daughter, Julie Fertig, parents and three brothers. Memorial services will be May 22, 2004, 10:00 AM at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, Bethany.

Ronald Edward Vernon

Ronald E. Vernon, 59, passed away June 16, 2007. Edd was a WAPD member for 25 years. Edd loved being with his family and friends. He touched so many lives as a father, grandfather, husband, and friend, and he will leave a big hole in many hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Rubye; his wife, Debbie; and his son, Steven. Survivors include daughter Kim, sons Jason and Justin, and three grandchildren, Sadie, Cassie and Logan. Procession will leave Mercer-Adams at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22 with graveside services at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel Hill.

Thomas Barrington Mason

Thomas Barrington Mason, Jr. was born Oct, 29, 1923 in Ripley, TN and passed away June 5, 2005 in Okla. City, OK. Tom went into the Army Air Corp at age 17 as MP. He was stationed at Will Rogers Field where he met his wife, Bobbie and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in March, 2005. The couple had two daughters, Jeananne and Suzanne. Tom was an engineer, inventor and a very educated man. He went back to school in the 60`s and received his Master`s of Engineering at OU. He retired from Mercy Hospital as Director of Engineering after 30 years with more than 27 years of perfect attendance and was an active member of Faith Tabernacle for 30 years. He is preceded in death by his parents; T.B. Mason, Sr. and Ruth Mason; brother, Bill Mason; grandson, Chirstopher Muys. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean; his daughters, Jeananne and husband Carl Mayabb, Suzanne and husband John Crase; grandchildren, Charles Mayabb, Daniel Mayabb, Shelly Mayabb; great-grandchildren, Caleb Mayabb and Seth Mayabb. Graveside service will be Wed., Jun 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, 7801 NW Expwy, Okla. City.

Cordelia Emmelyne Helsel

Cordelia `Emmelyne` Helsel, age 89, of Casey, formerly of Bethany, Oklahoma, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign. Emmelyne was born November 25, 1915 in Joes, CO, a daughter of Walter L. and Ruby Ann Pryor Miller. She married Rev. Charles Kenneth Helsel in 1932; he preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Helsel was a pastor`s wife for 40 years and worked 14 years at Southern Nazarene University Library in Bethany, Okla. She was a member of Bethany First Church of The Nazarene. She was Missionary President of the Colorado District Church of the Nazarene for 11 years and soloist for local churches and revivals. She leaves her children, Charles Helsel and wife Darlene of Berthoud, CO, Robert Helsel and wife Janice of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Laurel Hubbard and husband Robert of Casey; her grandchildren, Brenda Carlsen and husband Glenn, Bonita Dayton, Diane Range and husband Bill, Catherine Houts and husband Stan, Mark Helsel and wife Paula, Marshall Helsel and wife Melissa, Rebecca Hubbard, and Russell Hubbard and wife Cathy; great-grandchildren, Sharon Causey, Shiloh Carlsen, Rachael and Spenser Brown, Bridget and Jesse Range, Kyle and Katrina Houts, Heather Elliott, Patricia, Victoria, Christa and Jonathan Helsel, Benjamin, Lyndsy, Brittney and Russell Hubbard; and great-great-grandchildren, Elijah Elliott, Emily Hubbard, Braydin Connolly and Talia Hubbard. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Gladys A. Killion and grandson, Robert Hubbard. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at First Church of The Nazarene in Casey with Pastor Charles Helsel and Pastor Mark Copely officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, Oklahoma. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey is assisting with arrangements.

Donna Kay Martell

Donna Kay Martell was born 5/5/51 in Elk City, OK and died 1/20/05 in OKC, OK. She graduated in 1970 from Putnam City West High School, Bethany, OK and received an Associate`s Degree from South Oklahoma City Junior College in 1987. She worked for General Motors for 18 years and retired in 1998. Donna was a Master Gardener and a member of the UAW Local 1999. Preceded in death by parents Dale Bowen & Bonnyle Watts Bowen. Survived by son William Anthony Martell and wife Maria; two grandsons A.J. & Jake Martell; two sisters Karen L. Morris of Sapulpa, OK, Elaine Kirkwood of Plano, TX; 3 nephews and 1 niece. Family will greet friends on Sunday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Mon., Jan. 24, 2005 at Mercer-Adams Chapel.

Phillip Brooks Williford

Phillip Brooks Williford was born June 16, 1943 in Richmond California and moved to Oklahoma at the age of two with his family. He graduated high school in 1961 at Capital Hill. He served several years with the United States Navy aboard the USS Sperry AS-12. He then attended Oklahoma School of Banking and Business, where he met his best friend and beloved wife Lila Cavender. They were married on March 23, 1968 in Oklahoma City. He was a long time member of Oklahoma Model Car Club and numerous clubs throughout the years, being published in multiple magazines and news articles for his innate ability to bring realism and imagination to the models that he has built over the years. His mother Elizabeth Hampson Williford Moore, stepfather Raymond Moore, brother Brian Williford, son William Williford, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Lila Williford, two daughters, Christine Mills and Victoria `Vicki` O`Bar, his sister Elizabeth Rendeluk, and his five Mills granddaughters Juavona `Jeannie`, Kathryn `Katie`, Elizabeth `Dizzy`, Taylor `Tator-Tot`, Rebekah `Bekah`. He has a host of relatives and friends that loved him dearly. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2005 in Bethany, Oklahoma at the Mercer-Adams Chapel located at 3925 North Asbury, Bethany, Oklahoma, and interment in Resurrection Cemetery.

Hazel I. Witcher

Hazel I. (McMeekan) Witcher, age 85, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died Monday, January 17, 2005, at Grace Living Center in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Richard McMeekan and Melvina Wray. She is also survived by her One Son, Larry Witcher Arrangements are being handled by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, Oklahoma. Services are Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in the Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma.

Kathryn V. Shirey

Kathryn Virginia McLaughlin Shirey, 95, departed this life to be with the angels January 19, 2005. She was born March 24, 1909 on a farm near Cass, West Virginia, to Virginia Margaret Galford McLaughlin and James Longstreet McLaughlin. She was the seventh child in a family of eight children. In 1911 the family traveled by train to Shawnee, Oklahoma where they took a covered wagon to their new home near Okay. She attended Willowview School and Tecumseh High School. When Kathryn was a young girl she was nicknamed `Flossy` because of her very light blonde hair. Her father gave her a patch of land to grow cotton, which she tended and harvested. He helped her sell the cotton and deposited the money in her very first bank account. Kathryn met Clinton Rudolph Shirey at a spelling match at the schoolhouse. They were married three years later and moved to Bethany where they established their permanent home at its present location. In 1942, C.R. and Kathryn established the C.R. Shirey Plumbing Company in Bethany, which is still in operation. Kathryn saw many changes in the world in her lifetime. She saw transportation go from wagons to jets, and cooking from a wood stove to a microwave. She adapted throughout the years to the many changes and developed her own talents in the process. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothing and quilts for family and friends; made beautiful ceramics; was an accomplished gardener, and as many of you will agree, an excellent cook. Kathryn developed and maintained many close and dear friendships throughout her 76 years as a resident of Bethany. She was a generous, caring woman who gave tirelessly of her time and talents to others. First and foremost, Kathryn was devoted to God and her church. She was an active member of the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene for many years. Her love and devotion to God and her family has been the strong bond which has held the family together. They all love her and will miss her very much. Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband C.R., her parents, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She is survived by her sons, Reg, Phil and his wife Charlene, all of Bethany; granddaughters, Regina Davis and husband Jim of Moore, Melody Daniel and husband Michael of Oklahoma City, Melissa Brown of Oklahoma City; grandsons Greg Shirey and wife Rhonda of Bethany, and Eric Shirey and wife Beth of Signella, Sicily; nine great grandchildren: Keri Davis, Michael Jenkins, Cody Campbell, Clinton Shirey, Elizabeth Josiah, Joel, Daniel, and Jerusha Brown, and Grayson Shirey; and three great, great grandchildren: Trevor, Price, and Maci Davis. The family wishes to thank Kathryn`s caregivers who include the staffs at Park Glade Assisted Living, Bethany; Altera Sterling House, Bethany; and Pinnacle Hospice, for the loving care and comfort given her in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pinnacle Hospice Care, 825 N Bdwy, OKC 73102. Funeral Services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m., at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany with interment to follow at Bethany Cemetery.

Sandra Lucille Mays

God has the most beautiful new angel, Sandra `Sandy` L. Mays. Born September 6, 1934 in Lawton, OK., she passed away Thursday, January13th, after a courageous battle with cancer. She graduated from Central High School in OKC in 1953 where she was a member of the Pep Club Red Skirts and Red Skirts drum & bugle corps; also was a member of the American Legion Kiltie drum & bugle corps. She worked at Baptist Hospital, OPUBCO, Union Bank & retired from the Northside YMCA in 1996. She was a member of Northside Christian Church. Sandy is preceded in death by her father L.C. `Buck` Manning. She is survived by her mother Robbie Manning, daughter Robbie Mays, son & wife Ronald & Liz Mays, brother & wife Raymond & Barbara Manning and numerous nephews & nieces. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Okla. County, Cancer Care Assoc. & staff and all the people who helped her. A memorial service will be Monday, January 17, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment at Resthaven Cemetery. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Hue T Nguyen

Hue T (Nguyen) Nguyen, age 94, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Windsor Hills Nursing Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Sav Nguyen and the late Ngac Nguyen. She is also survived by her One Son, Joseph D Nguyen Arrangements are being handled by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, Oklahoma. Funeral service will be at St. Andrew Dung Lac Catholic Church at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 15, 2005 , Fr Dominic Hoang officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Clayton Hester

Clayton (Alabama) Hester went to be with his Lord and beloved Myrtle on Monday Jan. 10, 2005. He was born Dec. 20, 1916 in Lumberton, MS to Orlean and Eliza Hester. Clayton met his soul mate, Myrtle, in the shipyard at Mobile, Alabama. They were married 54 years. He retired as Director of the City of Okla. City Line Maintenance Dept. Feb. 25, 1977. He loved fishing and the time he and Myrtle spent at Fort Cobb Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother & father, sister Lorene, and grandson Jeff Hester. Clayton is survived by his sons William D. & wife Mary Hester, Clayton Hester, Jr. & wife Linda, Charles & wife Jackie Hester, and Joe & wife Laretha Hester. Also, brother, Leland Hester, Hattiesburg, MS, and sister, Lavilia Ladner, Lumberton, MS; sister-in-law, Hazel Short & Maude Winchester; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 13, 2005 at Mercer-Adams Chapel, with interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
