Johnny Nixon
Johnny Nixon, 54, of McCurtain, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Poteau.
Survivors include his father Fred Nixon; five sisters, Lillie Cauthon and Irene Hudlow, both of McCurtain, Ruby Nixon of Wetumka, Okla., Judy Shipman of Agra, Okla., and Ruth Burkert of Van Buren, AR; seven brothers, Ray, Norman, Donald and Henry Nixon, all of McCurtain, Willie Nixon of Spiro, Jimmy and Curtis Nixon, both of Muskogee.
Funeral service was held Aug. 14 at Wildwood Country Church.
Burial was at Milton Cemetery in McCurtain under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
Pallbearers were Foyl Ford, Bryan Burson, Freddie Roberts, Morris Murry, Ed Cullipher and Tim Johnson.
Ida Craft
Ida Craft, 100, of Claremore, Okla., died Friday, May 3, 2002.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tulsa and was formerly of Van Buren, AR.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles.
Survivors include one daughter, Norma Seely of Claremore; a grandson, Tom N. Seely of Claremore; two great-grandsons, Sean Thomas Seely and Scott Michael Seely, both of Claremore; nieces and nephews, Mary Ruth Ramos, Lillian Alice Holland Brewer, Mary Beth Holland Houghton, Teddy Holland, Calvin Holland and Elmer Holland Jr.
Graveside service was held May 8 with interment at Chelsea Cemetery in Chelsea, Okla., under the direction of Seaman – Blanke Funeral Service in Chelsea.
Rodney Sallee
Rodney Joe Sallee, 45, of Sapulpa, Okla., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at a Sapulpa hospital.
He is survived by his parents, Marlin and Yvonne Sallee of Fort Smith, AR; a sister, Debbie Jones of Van Buren, AR; three brothers, Marlin Sallee II and Victor Sallee, both of Fort Smith, AR, and Eric Sallee of Van Buren, AR; and a lifelong friend and partner, LeRoy Wasson of Sapulpa, Okla.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, AR, with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Bynum, Pat Walton, Joseph Watts, Greg Keith and Matthew Sallee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Sallee, Billy Rhynes, Paul Bollinger and Jim Rogers.
A memorial service was held Feb. 15 at Floral Haven Chapel in Tulsa.
Donald McKinney
Donald Ray McKinney, 72, of Yukon, Okla., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002.
He attended Poteau High and became team captain and quarterback of the 1948 undefeated state champion football team.
He later attended Eastern State University receiving his bachelor’s in education and later attended Southwestern State University earning a master’s degree in Education.
He served in the Air Force in occupied Japan and during the Korean War.
He was honorably discharged in 1952 having achieved final rank as staff sergeant.
He received the Japan Occupation Medal as well as the Korean Service Medal.
He was a retired field service officer and abatement judge for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, oil and gas division.
Prior to that, he had been a petroleum engineer for the Birdwell Co., a subsidiary of Seismograph Service Corp. of Tulsa.
He worked with the Disabled American Veterans helping the fellow disabled apply for needed benefits.
He received the Oklahoma DAV's 2001 award as volunteer of the year.
He worked with the Yukon Salvation Army Senior Citizens Center for the Meals on Wheels program.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yukon.
Survivors include his wife, Ethyl Marie McKinney; three children, Deborah Painter of Van Buren, Cheryl Cuzco of Fort Smith and Derek McKinney of Vancouver, Wash.; two stepchildren, Vickie Shawcross of Higgins, Texas, and Clendon Detrixhe of Yukon; five grandchildren, W. Scott and Brett Painter, Andrew Cuzco and Rachel and Bronte McKinney; four step grandchildren, James Hill, Jill Slocum, Jody Davis and Jovah Detrixhe; one brother, William E. McKinney of Bixby, Okla. and nephew, Mark W. McKinney of Rogers.
Funeral service was held March 11 at the First Baptist Church of Yukon.
Burial with military honors was at Yukon Cemetery under the direction of Yanda Funeral Home of Yukon.
Mike Scott
Philip Michael “Mike” Scott, 49, of McAlester, Okla., formerly of Van Buren, AR, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in McAlester.
He was a former salesman for Southern Cigar and Candy Co. in Fort Smith, AR.
Survivors include his wife, Candy Constantine of Okmulgee, Okla.; two sons, Matthew Scott of Norman, Okla., and Lucas Scott of Okmulgee; one sister, Sue Stahlheber of McAlester; and one brother, Jon Scott of Van Buren.
A memorial service was held March 12 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel in Van Buren.
