L.D. McCall

Funeral services for L.D. McCall, 72, of Shawnee were held Aug. 6, 2001 at Northwest Missionary Baptist Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Ed Fox officiating. The eulogy was given by the Rev. Jeff Dubose. Interment was at Rosedale Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home.

Mr. McCall died Aug. 4, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 30, 1928 in Rosedale, the son of John and Claris Watts McCall. He was reared at Rosedale and at 15 went to California to work in the orange groves.

He joined the U.S. Navy on Aug. 22, 1946. He received an honorable discharge on Sept. 28, 1949 in San Diego, Calif. He was a veteran of World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Japanese Occupational Medal.

Mr. McCall married Ophelia Boles in May of 1948 in Gainesville, Texas. She preceded him in death in April of 1983. He married Wanda Inmon on Oct. 13, 1984 in Maud.

He was a truck driver, working for Transcon Freight Lines for more than 30 years. He retired from the trucking industry in 1989.

Mr. McCall was a member of the Northwest Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ophelia Boles and a sister, Wilma Deloris Millsap.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda McCall, of the home; two sons, Larry McCall and his wife, Janice, of Macomb and Jerry McCall of Los Angeles, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Debra Roop and Sherry Gibson, both of Shawnee; two brothers, John McCall and his wife, Mary of Lytle, Texas, and Verl McCall and his wife, Carol, of Lindsay; three grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Ronnie McCall, Alfred Hutchinson, Gary Grider, Randy Whitehead, Tommy Moore and Ed Boles.

Honorary pallbearers were Don Benson, J.D. Buttram, Clifford Sikes, Gene Hoover, Merle Wise, Roland Lincicome and Clarence Gahagan.

Marvin Adelbert Ninman

Funeral services for Marvin Adelbert Ninman, 83, of Washington were held Monday, Aug. 6, 2001 at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Nehrenz and Vicar Chad Dietrich officiating. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Mr. Ninman died July 31, 2001 at his home in Washington.

He was born March 27, 1918 at Broken Arrow, the son of Adelbert H. and Bertha C. Bieberich Ninman. He was reared at Tulsa, graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1936. He had lived in the Washington area since 1973, coming from California.

Mr. Ninman was employed by Lockheed & Martin Aeronautics in Palm Dale and Burbank, Calif. He retired in 1973 after 32 years as a supervisor in management.

On Aug. 3, 1982 he married Evelyne Christine Conley at Chickasha. He built their home in Washington where he raised and raced quarter horses.

Mr. Ninman, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association for more than 20 years, trained quarterhorses at his ranch west of Washington. He was awarded the AQHA Racing Register of Merit Award many times.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ora Mariam Ninman; a brother, Ted Ninman; a step-grandson, Brent Bruehl and sisters, Edna Ruish and Esther Nees.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyne, of the home; two sons, Christopher Ninman Armstrong of Euless, Texas, and Gary Michael Ninman and wife, Theresa, of Redding, Calif.; a daughter, Janice E. Sylvester of Valencia, Calif.; two sisters, Irene Arnold of Oklahoma City and Lucille Maxey of Tulsa; a sister-in-law, Lela Ninman of Tulsa; his former wife, Sherryl Sanderfeld of Norman; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three stepchildren, Judy Luttrell and her husband, Elved, of Norman, David Conley of the home and Gary Conley and his wife, Connie, of N.C.; six step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roy Shelton, Jack Moore, Bobby Bruehl, John Williams, Elved Luttrell and Neil Bruehl.

Kenneth Paul (Burr) Trantham

Funeral services for Kenneth Paul (Burr) Trantham, 74, of Pauls Valley were held Aug. 6, 2001 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley with Jimmy Dehart officiating. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Mr. Trantham died Aug. 3, 2001 at the Pauls Valley Health Care Facility.

He was born July 23, 1927 in Moody, Texas, the son of Ernest and Annie Shumate Trantham. He was reared and attended school at Erick. Before moving to Pauls Valley two years ago, he had lived at Bowie, Texas, for 33 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Trantham were united in marriage in California.

He had worked in the oil fields most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey; two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Kenny; one grandson, Kenny; one sister, Frances Sprowles of Pauls Valley; one half sister, Sandy Hilgendorf; one half brother, Richard Trantham.

Pat Franklin

Memorial services for Pat Franklin, 78, of Purcell will be held Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Shields officiating, assisted by Elaine Howsley. A private interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

A visitation and viewing with family and friends will be held tonight (Thursday), August 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Franklin passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at her home in Purcell.

She was born on May 9, 1931, in Seminole, Okla., the youngest of six children born to John Carl Sutter and Leva Hooten Sutter. Pat grew up in Ada, Okla., where she graduated from high school in 1949.

She later met the love of her life, Vernon L. Franklin. They were married Feb. 2, 1952 in Ada. Pat worked tirelessly as a homemaker, wife and mother raising five children during the years that Vernon worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and West Virginia. In 1970, they moved to Wayne, Okla., when Vernon began teaching school. In 1974, they moved to Purcell where they live today.

Pat was a faithful member of the Purcell First Christian Church and was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also volunteered and served on various committees within the church including board offices of financial secretary and president, as well as serving as Elder.

Throughout her life she enjoyed family and friends, flower gardening, sewing, crocheting, reading and listening to music. Some of her fondest times were spent working on the election board where she made many new friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Leva Sutter; a sister, Jean Parker and a brother, John Carl Sutter.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Vernon Franklin of the home; three daughters, Lynann Mooney of Moore, and Pamela Sue Ward and husband, Scott, and Carolea Franklin, all of Oklahoma City; two sons, Vernon Franklin Jr. and wife, Connie, of Kilgore, Texas, and Carl Franklin and wife, Christy, of Swamp Branch, Ky.; two brothers, Ralph Sutter of Houston, Texas, and Robert Sutter and wife, Carlene, of Lafayette, La.; one sister, Joyce Jorgenson of Longmont, Colo.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends

Honorary pallbearers will be Walt Peters, Matt Howsley, Tres Mooney, Pat Stone, Scott Ward, Joshua Stone, Jake Civis, Snuffy Turner, Grady Henderson and Sonny Ward.

Wilburn Dawson Fielder Jr.

Funeral services for Wilburn Dawson Fielder Jr., 41, of Lindsay were held Aug. 5, 2009 at The First Church on Seventh Street in Lindsay with Pastor Scott Wilbourn and Brother Bill Pendergrass officiating. Interment was at Erin Springs Cemetery under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay.

Mr. Fielder passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Wilburn was born Nov. 11, 1967 in Purcell, Okla., to Wilburn Dawson Fielder Sr. and Paula Kaye (Logan) Robertson.

Wilburn lived in Lindsay all of his life. He worked as an auto mechanic and did auto body repair. He was a member of The First Church in Lindsay.

Wilburn’s favorite things included cars, fishing, and travel. He loved coaching and watching Little League Football and anything in which his kids were involved as well as family gatherings. Wilburn was an avid reader and student of the Bible as well as intellectual studies. He was also involved in prayer lines and charities.

Mr. Fielder is survived by his son, Donovan Robertson (Fielder) of Bradenton Fla.; his daughter, Stormi Robertson (Fielder) of Bradenton Fla.; his former wife, Tammy Day of Bradenton Fla.; his mother, Paula Robertson of Lindsay; two sisters, Nita Cieslak and husband, Larry, of Norman and Teresa Butler of Lindsay; four nieces, Carey Lindsey and husband, Stephen, Jessica Heisler and husband, Jeff, Jacquelyn Pritchard and husband, Aaron, and Allison Roehm and three nephews, Wesley Hill, Scott Hill and Chris Hill. Wilburn also leaves behind one great-nephew, Mark Cron and three great-nieces, Rebecca Cron, Emery Pritchard and Charlotte King, who will be born in September.

Wilburn was preceded in death by his father, Wilburn Fielder Sr., and his grandparents, Juanita and John Logan and Grandma Ruby and Papa Tom Fielder.

Bernice Naifeh, 87

Bernice Naifeh was born on Monday, Nov. 28, 1921, in Marion, Kansas to Terrell and Anna (Rentz) Coffelt. She passed from this life on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in Durant at the age of 87 years.

Bernice married K.E. “Charlie” Naifeh on Oct. 29, 1943, in Denver, Colo. They then moved from Colorado to Oklahoma. She owned Shell Barn Boutique and Naifeh’s Steak House.

She was preceded in death by her husband; mother; two sisters; sister-in-law, Sadie Razook; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Naifeh.

She is survived by her son, Ellis Naifeh of Durant; son, Terry Naifeh & wife Kay of Madill; son, Mike Naifeh of Ardmore; son, Dennis Naifeh and wife Sheree of Durant; niece, Robbie Webb of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Patsy Naifeh of Durant; as well as 10 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be on Monday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Durant. Father James Blagg will be officiating.

Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home will be handling all arrangements.

Berniece (Rowland) Hutson, 96

Berniece (Rowland) Hutson 96, of Durant was born on Wednesday, April 17, 1912, to John Ernest and Ruby (Moore) Rowland at Mead, Okla. She passed from this life on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 in Durant.

Berniece was a graduate of Mead High School. She attended Southeastern one week after her 17th birthday, and before she reached her 18th birthday she began her teaching career at Black Jack in Johnson County. She taught the first four grades there for one year. Her next assignment was at Aylesworth in Marshall County where she taught for two years, followed by three years at Isom Springs School at Woodville. She returned to Southeastern and completed her B.A. Degree. She then went to Graham and taught four years and then finished her teaching career of 34 years at Lindsay. Her philosophy was, “One teacher in one year’s time can change the direction of the life of a child.” Another quote was, “There was never a problem child, but only a child with a problem.” She loved all of her students and was loved by all of them in return. This was evident by the visits and cards she received from her former students. She made an impact not only on the lives of her students and her family, but on everyone else she came in contact with.

Berniece was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority and the First Baptist Church. She also belonged to the N.E.A., O.E.A. and R.E.A.

She married A.I. ‘Skip’ Hutson on Jan. 28, 1939, in Healdton, Okla. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1988. Also preceding her were her parents; sisters Cassie Willis, Jewel Calhoun and Lorene McClendon; brothers Lynwood Rowland and Charles Rowland; nephew Rowland Gene Willis and great-nephew Ricky Willis.

Berniece is survived by brother John Chester Rowland of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law Jewel Rowland of Durant and Ladelma Pope of Point, Texas; special friend Ruth Ann Russell of Calera along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Dalton-Holmes Chapel with David Hornsby and Tommy Rowland officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery with Calvin Rowland, Bradley Rowland, Danny Rowland, Dudley Rowland, Johnny Rowland and Dennis Cullum serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are David Goggins, Jerry Calhoun, George Hornsby, Jeff Rowland, Paul Hornsby, Howard Hornsby, Matt Powell, Jeff Campbell, Jason Lowery, Phillip Aplin, Brian Cathey, Chris Cathey, Jim Cathey and Charles James.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home.
