Judith Nan Compton Vickers
Memorial Services for Judith Nan Compton Vickers,74, of Durant, OK, will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Durant, OK, with Rev. James Blagg officiating. Judy died Sunday, April 14.
Judy was born on Sept. 24, 1938, in McAlester, OK. She was a 1956 graduate of Durant High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma, and while there was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Social Sorority. Judy graduated from Southeastern Okla. State Univ. with a degree in Education with majors in Latin and English.
Judy began her teaching career in Enid, OK and Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, teaching Latin at both schools. She obtained her Master’s degree in Counseling at S.O.S.U in 1972 and joined the faculty at the Durant Public Schools in 1973 as a counselor at the Middle School and later at the Intermediate School. Judy retired in 2002.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Ashley Ann Vickers Porter of McKinney, TX, sister, Jackie Peters of Denison, TX, parents, Jack and Virginia Compton and Vick and Velma Vickers of Durant. She is survived by her husband Tom, her grandchildren Jackson Porter, age 15 and Jenna Porter, age 11 of McKinney, TX, her brother-in-law Kenneth Peters of Denison, TX, her niece Cheryl Peters Phelps and children Ivy and Riley of Hollister, CA. and very special friend and caregiver Pam Boyd of Mead, OK.
In lieu of flowers, Judy desired that memorials be made to the charities of your choice.
Following the memorial service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, a reception in the Great Hall, celebrating Judy’s life will be hosted by members of Chapter DJ, P.E.O Sisterhood. A private disposition of ashes will occur at a later date.
Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
Wayne Allen Dixon Sr.
Wayne Allen Dixon Sr., a resident of Durant, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the age of 78 years 4 months and 22 days. He was born to Roy and Dorthea Dixon in Yonkers, New York on Saturday, December 8, 1934. Wayne married Mary Carolyn Kneeland in New York.
Wayne served his country and community in the United States Army. He was a food broker by trade. Wayne could be found working in his shop whenever he could.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his grandson, Michael Dixon of Durant, Oklahoma; daughter in law, Diane Dixon of Durant, Oklahoma; one nephew and 2 nieces.
Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dorthea Dixon; son, Wayne Dixon; daughter, Linda Dixon.
A Memorial Service in honor of his memory will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel in Durant with Rev. John Breon officiating and full Military honors conducted by the Army Honor Guard from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
Naomi Elnora Cross
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church for Naomi Elnora Cross, 82, Durant, who died at her home on Monday, March 25, 2013. Rev. Jim Shroyer, Rev. B. J. Tapley and Jimmy Stegall will officiate the service.
The daughter of L. L. and Myrtle Pamplin, she was born in Bennington, Oklahoma.
She married Raphen Cross in May, 1948 in Denison, TX.
Naomi was a lifelong resident of Bryan County and graduated from Bennington High School.
Services will be held on March 29, 2013 at the First Christian Church at 2 p.m.
Family hour will be held on March 28, 2013 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m.
Officiating will be Rev. B.J. Tapley, Rev. Jim Shroyer and Bro. Jimmy Stegall.
Internment will be at Highland Cemetery.
All arrangements are being handled by Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Janie Pearl Sinor
Janie Pearl Sinor a resident of Colbert, Oklahoma passed from this life in Denison, Texas on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 89 years 6 months and 30 days.
She was born in Dension, Texas on Sunday, August 26, 1923 to Daniel Joseph and Eunice Elvira (Deason) Hollowell.
Janie Hollowell married Hoy Sinor on Saturday, June 14, 1941 in Durant, Oklahoma.
Janie was a housewife for 59 years.
Funeral services will be held March 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the 1st Baptist Church in Colbert, OK.
Officiating will be Bro. Jim Parrish.
Family hour will be held at the 1st Baptist Church in Colbert, OK on March 28, 2013 from 6-7 p.m.
Interment will be held at the Garden of Memories in Colbert, OK.
Arrangements are being handled by Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Linda Louise Casteel
Linda Louise Casteel was born on March 7, 1937, in Caney, Oklahoma to Arthur “Jack” Taylor and Edna Miller Taylor and passed from this life on March 25, 2013 at her home at the age of 76.
Louise married Paul Casteel on September 25, 1964, in Durant, Oklahoma.
She has been a lifelong resident of Bryan County and she worked beside her husband in the family business until their retirement.
Ernest Eugene “Gene” James
Ernest Eugene “Gene” James 79, of Boswell, Oklahoma passed away Monday morning March 25, 2013 at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant. He was born June 17, 1933 in Greenfield, Oklahoma to Ernest David and Nettie Alpha Ledbetter James.
He was a lifetime Boswell resident and attended Boswell schools.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955.
Eric Everett Ridenour
Eric was born in Tulsa on Nov. 1, 1981. He passed away Wednesday, the 20th of March, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ike Young and uncles Jody and Steve of Silo; fraternal grandmother, Dorothy and uncles Randy and Kenneth of McAlester.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, the mother of his children, Erin Grimes; son Gavin Wade, daughter Karen Paige; mother Rebecca and husband Michael VanZandt.
Leslie Dewayne “Moe” Blankenship
Leslie Dewayne “Moe” Blankenship a resident of Hendrix, Oklahoma passed away in Denison, Texas on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 64 years 6 months and 17 days.
He was born in Liberty, Oklahoma on Wednesday, September 8, 1948 to Earnest and Mary (Boehme) Blankenship.
Leslie married Paulette Riley on Thursday, December 15, 1966 in Carpenters Bluff, Texas.
Moe served his country proudly in the United States Army.
Sue Welsh
Sue Welsh of Calera, Oklahoma was born on October 31, 1962 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Cladies Tew Jr. and Edna Macey Lee and passed from this life on March 18, 2013 at her home.
Sue attended and graduated from Clinton High School.
She married John Hermanns on August 29, 2010 in Sherman, Texas.
She was a devoted homemaker and she enjoyed being with friends and traveling.
Gerald Ray Johnson
Gerald Ray Johnson of Calera passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the age of 78. Ray was born January 27, 1935 in Albany, OK to Fred James Johnson and Velma Viola (Chapman) Johnson.
He attended school in Albany and then joined the United States Army in 1953 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1956.
Ray married Rose Marie Gier on August 8, 1974 in Mesquite, TX and in 1988 they returned to Bryan County.
