Zona Mae Crawford Taylor

Zona Mae Crawford Taylor was born on May 17, 1930 in Honey Grove, Texas to Thomas and Mary Jane Hoover Crawford and went home to be her Lord and Savior on September 20, 2012 in Denton, Texas at the age of 82.

Zona married Finis Pat Taylor on July 7, 1946 in Durant and they were lifelong resident of Durant and Bryan County. Zona was a homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She attended Calvary Baptist Church and she enjoyed making jewelry and ceramic painting and she dearly loved her dog, “Snickers”.

Zona was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Mary Jane Crawford; infant daughter; four brothers and one sister.

Zona is survived by her daughters Linda Jennings and husband George of Denton, TX and Kathryn Murray of Bristow, OK; grandchildren Jason Christopher Green and wife Lana, Brian Mathew Green, Jeremy Patrick Murray, John Kyle Murray and wife Shelly, Eli Christian Lewing and Aaron Taylor Murray; great grandchildren Anna and Sarah Green, Eli Ewing, Taylor Lane Murray, Kali Marie and Khloe Dawn Murray and Emily Grace and James Connor Murray and numerous other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of Zona’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Highland Cemetery Pavilion. Bro. Jack Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Green, Brian Green, Jeremy Murray, John Murray, Aaron Murray and Cecil Smith. The family will receive friends at Brown’s Funeral Service on Monday evening from 6-8 PM.

Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service Durant, Oklahoma.

VaLondia Louise (Hines) Hawkins

VaLondia Louise (Hines) Hawkins passed away September 15, 2012 in Durant. She was 89.

Family hour will be held from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Durant. Internment will be at Woodbury Forest Cemetery in Madill. Rev. James Robinson will officiate the service.

Marilyn Rutz

Marilyn Rutz was born in Follett, Texas to Christ and Emma Melzer on August 22, 1935. She passed from this life into heaven on September 14, 2012, in Perryton, Texas.

She attended school in Follett, playing basketball in high school. She married Darrell Rutz in 1953. They had three children. She will not only be remembered as a loving Mom, Granny, Sister & Friend, but as a caring and giving person to all.

Mr. and Mrs. Rutz lived in Perryton since 1959, moving there from Booker, Texas.

They owned and operated Rutz Oil Co., where she was the secretary and bookkeeper. She retired in 1991.

She had a very special love, Bill Rogers. He was her rock. They traveled and spent lots of time enjoying being together.

Marilyn was the best Granny ever, a “healer” of the sick, and “keeper”of those playing hooky so they could go spend the day with her.

Marilyn loved to work in her yard, and you could tell, it looked like something out of a magazine all of the time. She spent hours just a-swinging and enjoying her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, and two brothers, Edgar and Steve.

She is survived by her three daughters, Janet Matlock and husband Dean of Bennington, Okla., Sandy Palmer and husband Danny of Perryton, Texas, Kelly Luck and husband Danny of Bennington, Okla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will all miss her greatly.

At Marilyn’s request she will be cremated, and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Russell Franklin Carver

Russell Franklin Carver, 72, of Mead, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday Night 9-12-12 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
He was born October 24, 1939 in Louisiana to Russell and Mary Ann Ladd Carver.
He was an alcohol / drug counselor at the Harbor House in Fort Smith, Arkansas before moving to Achille, Oklahoma living there for several years before moving to Mead last year.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, an infant Daughter, Son Charles Collins and Brother Fred Carver.
Surviving is his wife Judy Medina of Bokoshe, Oklahoma, Two Daughters Shana Carver of Mead and Latona Collins of Achille, Four Sons Bobby Joe Medina and Dean Collins both of Achille, Randy Collins of Bokoshe, Oklahoma and Christopher Carver of Dallas.
Two Brothers Melvin and Charles Carver both of Beaumont.
Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Carver was cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Oklahoma.

William J. “Jack” Schmitz Sr.

William J. “Jack” Schmitz Sr. was born November 11, 1939 in Old Allison, Oklahoma to Charlie Doyle and Leona Beard Schmitz and passed from this life on September 12, 2012 in Denison, Texas at the age of 72.

Jack married Peggy Ann Nunnally on July 3, 1962 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Jack worked as an operator for over forty years and was a member of the operator’s union for thirteen years. He was a member of the Mead Baptist Church and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, working his cows and he never backed down from work.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Leona Schmitz; beloved wife Peggy Ann Schmitz; son Charles Sidney Prather and brothers Delbert and Harvey Schmitz.

Jack is survived by his children Mary Louise Prather, William J. Schmitz Jr. and Laura Ann Hendricks and husband Junior all of Mead, OK; grandchildren Jason Wayne Prather, Paden Zachary Lewis, William J. Schmitz III, Rebecca Schmitz, Leslie Webb, John Webb, Megan Hendricks, Angela, Carmen and Sam; 8 great grandchildren and brother Burl Schmitz and wife Carolyn of Sherman, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. Kerry Groce will officiate. Interment will follow in Mead Cemetery with Paul Burbage, Ricky Holt, Steve Emory, Robert Seinich, Tony Sulsar and Mike “Slick” Watson serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8 PM.

Jimmy Ray “Papa J” Roberson

Jimmy Ray “Papa J” Roberson, 67, of Calera went to be with his Lord in Savior on September 12, 2012 at his home.
He was born August 16, 1945 in Amherst, TX to Britton and Frances (Berry) Roberson.
He married Brenda Townsend on August 20, 1965 in Sunnyside, TX.
He came to Calera in 1970 and worked in construction.
He helped with the beginning stages of building the church.
He was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Calera, OK.
Papa J enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing volleyball, camping, spending time with his family, loved to give his grandkids a ride on the Cushman, and a very Christian individual.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father in law, mother in law, great grandson Blayden Roberson.

He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home, son Toby Roberson of Calera, daughters; Cindy Shinault and husband Charlie of Sherman, TX and Tonya Hampton and husband Tim of Calera, sisters; Virginia Carter of New Mexico, Donna Walker and husband Dusty of Lubbock, TX, and Brenda Swint of Arizona, grandchildren; Preston Roberson, Chad Phelps, Casey Roberson, Harley Roberson, Cheyenne Roberson, Caleb Shinault, Collin Shinault, Lacy Roberson, Madison Hampton, and Logan Hampton, great grandchildren; Landon Roberson, Shayne Phelps, Sawyer Phelps, Yalana Roberson, Jemma Roberson, Bentley Seymour, and Nick Reeves, and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at New Life Assemble of God Church in Calera, OK. Rev. Lester Ames and Bro. David Sanders will be officiating. Family Hour will be Friday, September 14, 2012 from 6-8:00 p.m. at New Life Assembly of God Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, OK.

Beth (Cross) Weaver Rodgers

Mrs. Beth (Cross) Weaver Rodgers, age 64, was reunited with her beloved pet Holly and her parents in Heaven on September 9, 2012 at her residence in Round Rock, Texas. Beth, formerly of Bokchito, Oklahoma, was born on December 27, 1947 in Durant, Oklahoma, to Luther Cross and Essie Perkins.

She was self employed and held a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from SOSU, Durant. Beth was a founding member of the Bokchito EMS.

She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of St. Philips United Methodist Church in Round Rock, Texas. She spent most of her life in Bryan County, loving life and the people around her. Beth was a beautician, cake decorator, mayor, business owner, and a woman of many talents. She loved gardening, painting and sharing her artistic talents with her grandchildren.

Beth is survived by one daughter, Ellissa Slape and husband Doug of Austin, Texas.

Her siblings are Jasper Cross & spouse Freda, Blue, OK, James Cross & spouse Jane, Goodrich, TX, Rocky Cross and spouse Glenda, Mead, OK, Pearline Reynolds, Greenville, TX, Vonna Russell, Muskogee, OK, Betty Hollingshead, Claremore, OK.

She is survived by two wonderful grandchildren, Joshua Slape and Christy Slape.

She was preceded in death by her parents and twin brothers.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the American Funeral Service Chapel, 107 N. Burney St. Colbert, Oklahoma, with pastor Bob Stevens officiating. A visitation hour is set for Friday, September 14th, 2012 from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Colbert Chapel. Interment will follow the funeral service on September 15th, 2012 at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma.

American Funeral Service has charge of all arrangements.
