George David Vanpool
George David Vanpool of Miami, Okla., was born April 21, 1917, at the family farm on Elm Creek in Northeast Ottawa County, Okla.
He was the son of David William Vanpool, and his wife, Addie May McCorkle, both of whose families were pioneer farmers in Indian Territory.
He died at age 85 on July 1, 2002, at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, Okla., as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Sidney Logan
MIAMI, Okla. - Sidney James Logan, 43, Miami, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an illness.
Mr. Logan was born May 19, 1953, at Claremore.
He was a Seneca Cayuga Indian, a Peoria Indian and an Eastern Shawnee.
He was a farm laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Logan, of the home; two sons, Eric Logan and Curtis Logan, both of Miami; a daughter, Jennifer Logan, Miami; two stepsons, Jerry Walden and Ricky Walden, both of Miami; a stepdaughter, Georgia Conley, Cardin, Okla.; three brothers, Jerry Logan and David Logan, both of Wyandotte, Okla., and Phillip Logan, Tahlequah, Okla.; six sisters, Vivian Bitsie, Gallup, N.M., Mary Jumper, Grove, Margaret Logan, Mount Vernon, Wash., Sandra Works, Broken Arrow, Okla., Helen Shandlin, Miami, and Becky Bombrake, Bernice, Okla., and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Quapaw Tribal Building, east of Quapaw.
The Rev. Gil Hooper will officiate.
Burial will be in Bassett Grove Cemetery, northeast of Grove.
Pallbearers will be Danie Dale, Dusty Logan, Robert Logan, Herbie Bitsie, Buddy Logan and Leon Torres.
Services are under direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher.
Bob Marlow
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Robert "Bob" Marlow, 81, died at 9:41 a.m. today, April 10, 1997, at Freeman West hospital in Joplin after an illness.
Mr. Marlow was born Dec. 30, 1915, at Miami.
He was a lifetime area resident and a retired dairy farmer.
He also worked in the lead and zinc mines in the Picher and Commerce areas.
He was a member of Wayside Assembly of God Church near Wyandotte.
He married Irene Reasoner on July 17, 1970, at Miami.
She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Roberta "Penny" McWethy, Commerce; five stepdaughters, Jackie Hadley, Oklahoma City, Lorene Soper, Delores Woods and Barbara Farstvedt, all of Columbus, Kan., and Jean Wixon, Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, Eddie Marlow, Wyandotte, Roy Marlow, Broomfield, Colo., and John Marlow, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Paralee Sharp, Lancaster, Calif.; a grandchild, 18 stepgrandchildren and 28 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. Roy Scribner and the Rev. Pearl Stevens will officiate.
Burial will be in Seneca Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Soper, Bud Soper, Mike Soper, Clint Smith, Knut Farstvedt and Jeff Woods.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Howard Pryor
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Howard Wayne Pryor, 69, Wyandotte, died at 12:42 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, after a short illness.
Mr. Pryor was born March 14, 1928, at the Clear Creek community in Vernon County, Mo.
He was a steel worker for Armco Steel in Kansas City, Mo.
He retired in 1975.
He had lived in the Wyandotte area for 15 years since he moved from Independence, Mo.
He married June Pryor on July 24, 1949, in Nevada.
She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Terry Pryor, Wyandotte; a daughter, Renda McHenry, Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Leroy Pryor, Lee's Summit, and Norman Pryor, Nevada, Mo.; six sisters, Ivalena Wilson, Holt Summit, Mo., Annie Mayfield, Columbus, Neb.; Dovie Crossland and Betty Parrick, both of Urbana, Mo., Pauline Alten, Bentley, Kan., and Edna Hunter, Stover, Mo.; his mother, Irous Roby, Nevada, Mo.; five granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Chapel, Miami.
The Rev. Wendell Smith will officiate.
Burial will be in Wyandotte Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jim Pryor, Ken Pryor, Joe Pryor, Roger Wilson Jr., and Troy Tipton.
Virginia Walters
COMMERCE, Okla. - Virginia J. Walters, 70, Commerce, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday at a local nursing home after a long illness.
She was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Kansas.
She lived most of her life in the Commerce area.
She had worked as a U.S. safety inspector.
There are no immediate survivors.
The body will be cremated.
No services are planned.
Arrangements are under direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher.
Anna Allen
Anna Allen, age 88, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2001 at Kaiser Permenente Hospital, Richmond, Calif., following a long illness.
Mrs. Allen was born on February 28, 1913 in Featherston, Okla.
She married Raymond Allen January 12, 1953 in Bentonville, Ark.
He preceded her in death February 24, 1982.
Mrs. Allen worked as a cook for several restaurants in the Joplin area for over 40 years.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Thelma Roach of Richmond, Calif.; two sisters, Edna Cook, Picher, Okla., and Opal Hatfield, Bakersfield, Calif.; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Freddie Wright will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the church or the charity of your choice in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Thelma P. Conduff
Thelma P. Conduff, 83, of Wyandotte, Okla., passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002.
She was a retired school cafeteria employee.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home in Seneca, Mo.
Burial will follow in Seneca (Mo.) Cemetery.
Weston J. Edwards
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Weston James Edwards, 40, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002.
He was a resort groundskeeper.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus, Kan.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
