Lawanna Burris

MIAMI, Okla. - Lawanna Burris, 73, 3614 Seneca St., died at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, after an illness.

Mrs. Burris was born April 14, 1923. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Phil Burris, Seneca, Mo.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Ottawa County Cemetery, south of Miami.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

Shirley Carroll

ZENA, Okla. - Shirley Payne Carroll, 60, Zena, died at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Grove (Okla.) General Hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Carroll was born Aug. 6, 1936, at Okanogan, Wash. She and her husband moved to the area 12 years ago from Whittier, Calif. She was a bookkeeper for Grand Lake Telephone Co. for 10 years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

She married Charles James Quarles on May 29, 1954, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, John Carroll and James Carroll, both of Apple Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Lora Lee Robinson, Apple Valley; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Service, Jay. The Rev. Dewane Stone will officiate. Burial will be in Duffield Cemetery, Jay.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Robinson, Mattie Carroll, Andy Carroll, C.J. Brewer, Bruce Hicks and Duane Creason.

Josie Fore

QUAPAW, Okla. - Services for Josephine "Josie" Watson Fore, 60, Quapaw route 1, who died Monday, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Picher.

The Rev. Floyd Ford and the Rev. Gary Rhoades will officiate. Burial will be in Greenback Family Cemetery, east of Quapaw.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Helms, Mark Owens, Steve Owens, Scott Owens, David Longan and Michael Longan.

The body will lie in state at the family home, 64011 East 57 Road, east of Quapaw.

Charles Johnson

FAIRLAND, Okla. - Charles Walter Johnson, 68, 319 S. Perry, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, after a short illness.

Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Commerce, Okla. He moved to Fairland in 1969 from Miami. In addition, he had lived in St. John's, Newfoundland, El Paso, Texas, and Topeka, Kan. He retired from the Air Force as a senior master sergeant in 1968. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2688 in Miami and the Masonic Lodge of Topeka. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Fairland.

Survivors include a son, John C. Johnson, Fairland; two daughters, Donna Cassinelli, Fairland, and Patricia Taylor, Horton, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services are pending with Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Fairland.

Katie Moody

MIAMI, Okla. - Katie Lucille Moody, 62, 204 L. St. N.E., Miami, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at a Quapaw nursing home after a long illness.

Miss Moody was born Sept. 22, 1934, at St. Paul, Kan. She moved to Miami from St. Paul 26 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Central Christian Center, Joplin, Mo.

Survivors include four sisters, Teresa Hill, Miami, Francis Hart, Wichita, Kan., and Darlene Webb and Alice Kelley, both of Oklahoma City; and two brothers, Robert Moody, St. Paul, and Donnie Moody, Parsons, Kan.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hope Cemetery, St. Paul. The Rev. Park Burkhart will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

Agnes Schiffbauer

WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Agnes Irene Williams Schiffbauer, 85, Wyandotte, died at 9:51 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a short illness. Mrs. Schiffbauer was born Oct. 6, 1911, at Ozark, Mo. She lived most of her life in the Wyandotte area. She was a homemaker and a member of Wyandotte Christian Church. Her husband, Rodie Schiffbauer, died July 28, 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Pat McMillan, Wyandotte; two brothers, John Williams, Ozark, and George Williamson, Redmond, Wash.; a sister, Anna Jane McLean, Hemet, Calif.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wyandotte Christian Church. Merwyn McMillan, Rex Nehring and Del Camp will officiate. Burial will be in Wyandotte Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Funeral Home, Anderson, Mo.

Cora Deacon dies at age 103

COMMERCE, Okla. - Cora Riley Deacon, 103, Commerce, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 1997, at a local nursing home after a short illness.

Mrs. Deacon was born Jan. 7, 1894, at Nowata. She lived her entire life in Craig and Nowata counties. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Welch Christian Church.

She married Robert C. Deacon on Sept. 5, 1911, at Independence, Kan. He died on April 8, 1959.

Survivors include three sons, Ernest Clifford Deacon, Miami, Robert Charles Deacon, Welch, and LeRoy Deacon, Coffeyville, Kan.; two daughters, Dorothy Marie Carson, Miami, and Thelma Irene McMurray, Madison, Ill.; a brother, Dick Riley, Rolla, Kan.; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 10 great- great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at North Edna Cemetery, Edna, Kan., with Brad Canham, minister, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home, Welch.

Brion Boyd and Zakary Boyd

FAIRLAND, Okla. - Brion R. Boyd, 27, Afton route 1, died Tuesday morning, March 11, 1997, from injuries received in a pickup-train wreck east of Fairland.

His son, Zakary Rion Boyd, 7, died at 10:58 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, from injuries received in the accident.

Mr. Boyd was born April 16, 1969, at Miami. He was a lifetime area resident. He was a graduate of Fairland High School. He was a farmer. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Fairland, and had been active in the Royal Rangers.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Boyd, Afton; a son, Levi Ray Boyd, of the home; a daughter, Hannah Boyd, of the home; his parents, Douglas and Janice Boyd, Fairland; a sister, Lee Ann Boyd Strickland, St. Louis, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Wanda Boyd, Fairland; and maternal grandparents, Marvin and Etta Cron, Fairland.

Zakary was born March 9, 1990, at Grove. He was a lifetime area resident. He was a first-grade student at Fairland Elementary School. He attended the First Assembly of God Church, Fairland.

He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Rick and Carolyn Yohn, Miami; and maternal grandfather, Ron Jarvis, state of California.

Joint services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Assembly of God Church, Fairland. The Rev. Tim Jones, the Rev. Jackie Crafton Jr., the Rev. Danny Hughes and the Rev. Tom Estes will officiate. Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Adcock Funeral Home, Fairland.
